I have been wanting to try Filipino food as the most I tried is Jollibee. This business is located in Newberry going toward Newberry HS area. From the outside due to the business if front, if do not pay close attention you may miss it. When walking in, the first thing that hit me was the beautiful flower wall, which aesthetically pleasing. It does look like they are still under some work or getting set back up as the front area which I assume would contain some of their bakery items was empty. I browsed over the menu and went with the chicken adobo rice with a veggie lumpia, and halo halo! One of their mottos that is painted on the kitchen door is, they are not a fast food spot as their food is made to order. The inside was clean as I patiently waited for my meal to be made. I live about 15-20 mins away from this place, so as soon as I arrived home my halo halo went into the freezer and I went to indulge in the lumpia first. Lumpias are very similar to egg rolls and it wasn't bad but nothing special. The chicken adobo rice was very seasoned, savory, and fresh. I believe it was chicken thighs but the pieces of meat were large in size and the sauce that it was cooked in was so addicting. I literally took large bites of the rice, chicken, and steamed broccoli and was very satisfied. Saving the best for last - halo halo. If you have never had it - order it. It's made up of crushed ice, milk, sweet beans, ube ice cream, and it's all layered. First off, I never thought sweet kidney beans would complement a dessert/treat but wow I was bought in. It was rich, but not overly sweet - definitely great for summertime. I see myself just coming here to grab this for my summertime treat - especially after I added in some mango I had cut up. For my first Filipino experience, I would say this is a great hidden gem in Newberry. There's not a lot of local Filipino spots in the Gainesville area and so happy I did not have to drive to Jax or Orlando for it. read more

Spent the day in Newberry, FL for the Spring Sunflower Festival at Bryer Patch Farms. After a few hours of walking the farm and picking some beautiful sunflowers and wildflowers, we headed over to Filipino Flavors for a late lunch. I have a rule anytime we go to a new city: If there's a Filipino restaurant in the area, I'm going to try it. Filipino Flavors is great! It's a bit of a limited menu for lunch, but what we got was great! We started with some veggie lumpia. These were hot and crispy. The fillings seemed to be just shredded cabbage and carrots, so the Thai chili sauce lends a helping hand with the flavor. The star of the show was the pork sisig. Delicious salty diced pork tossed with peppers and a tasty marinade and topped with a perfect sunny side up egg and a mayo sauce. This was fantastic and would order again and again. At first, before you even get in the door, the overwhelming mouthwatering smells of the food rolling out hit you...my husband turns to me and goes, "Oh MAN, that smells so gooood!!". I just smile, knowing we're in for a real treat that I've waited years for! My step-mother is from the Philippines and oh we love her meals she makes when we visit...in particular, we love lumpia and her pancit. So I order the lumpia meal with a side of pancit. My husband ordered the chicken adobo that usually comes with rice but he got the pancit as a side also. And then asked, do I get some lumpia too? Oh lordy....then we ordered a LG order of lumpia as an appetizer...lol! I'm so excited because we've just also ordered two beef empanadas and if they're as good as I think they are, we may have to get another several to take home and maybe to share with my chiropractor who loves them as much as we do! Despite what the website says, yes, there ARE TABLES TO EAT AT! So yes, you CAN eat inside and it's not just a take-out only place! It is SOOOO worth the drive -- we just drove 54 mins to get here and regret nothing! The chicken adobo was so tender and flavorful! The portions are so filling that my husband had trouble finishing his plate of chicken adobo (Which I was happy to help him with) and neither of us could finish all the delicious lumpia. Pancit was devoured long ago...as were the two empanadas. Everything hot and delicious, freshly made to order and finger-burning hot! Nothing left sitting under a heat lamp or on the counter without being brought out to us. Very very friendly wonderful people here. Love the family/small business/cozy feel of this place. We are overly full, satisfied beyond a doubt and looking forward to a dessert to enjoy on the 54 min ride home. Grabbed some fabulous ube cake that I'll enjoy later....I'd gladly make the ride every week just for such delicious food. As my husband turned to me and said before he finished his food, "we just found yet another favorite place!". Are you tired of the same old thing? Re-visiting them over a year later since my first review. They have improved--they were never "bad" per se but even better now. The dessert/bakery selection is really good, too. I was honestly worried at first whether they'd make it or not because unlike Jacksonville, we really don't have that many Filipinos in Gainesville, nevermind Newberry itself. But the outreach to the local community seemingly has been excellent and attracted a lot of devoted customers. I had the chicken adobo with pancit tonight and it was pretty good, very flavorful. Also got a side order of pork lumpia shanghai and it was decent in size and not lacking in flavor, either. The menu overall is pretty standard to a Filipino restaurant but looks very solid all in all: adobo, lechon kawali, sisig, all that. The desserts however are really a nice touch: this is a culture where baked goods and desserts are very important and it's crucial they're represented and corrected prepared, which these are. I didn't get any today myself but only because I have a pie at home I baked and now need to consume. read more

This was my 2nd time dining at their restaurant/bistro in Newberry. I happen to work with some Filipinos, so I am no stranger to their cuisine. Pancit, Chicken Adobo and Lumpia are likely the most common dishes you'll see. The Filipino Flavors food trucks will have these options and likely one other special of the day entree. I definitely encourage you to go to their restaurant & bistro in Newberry. They have a lot more lunch & dinner options along with tasty desserts & drinks. Between the food trucks & restaurant, I've had their chicken adobo, pork adobo, lechón kawali, pancit, lumpia, siopao buns, halo-halo, & buko pandan. I haven't had a meal here that was anything other than delicious and satisfying. There are still so many items I look forward to trying. I have both had take out and dine in. Friendly staff cute atmosphere with some good Filipino food. They also do catering. My 1/2 Filipino family enjoys it and to me the dishes are a blend of Filipino flavors but slightly more fil-am, not so heavy on the salt or magic sarap. From the outside the place seems a little sketchy, but once you walk in it's a whole different vibe. Beautiful place, very clean. The server was really nice and talkative, gave us so much information on the business and the food. The food was yummy but tasted a little old. Saw on the Instagram a "secret menu item" which was just a chicken siopao but deep fried. Tried it and loved it, so had to to try it regular which was yummy as well. I was visiting Newberry for a baseball tournament and found on Google maps that this place was nearby! I was so excited because this is the food of my people! We had the lumpia, adobo, siopao and sinigang (which was our fave entree!! Nice and tangy just how we love it!) We ended with two ube cupcakes that are literally life changing. Maryann (the owner) Has the most amazing buns I've ever put my mouth on. For fresh homemade filipino Siopao this is the spot!! My buddy is eating some of her other food as we speak and it smells amazing. I still have more of her food I'll be trying later. But her buns were so good I had to leave a review asap. Edit: Okay. The Beef pares with garlic rice is freaking amazing. I wanted to follow the Japanese motto to stop eating when you're 80% full. I tried that. Filipino Flavors recently took over this location and all I can say is WOW. They have completely transformed the area. It used to look like an old cafeteria and now it looks like a trendy restaurant. The whole ambiance changed and it is all for the better. I went for lunch and there was so much that I wanted to try. I definitely ordered way to much food but it was all so delicious. Top 3 must haves: 1. Pork lumpia- it's crunchy , it's salty , it comes with some sort of duck sauce , and the lunch special comes on a bed of jasmine garlic rice and it's incredible. 2. Sweet pork bun- if you've never had Filipino food before (like me) then it is hard to compare this to anything. It's a bun the size of a cheeseburger filled with pork. The outside is a tiny bit sticky and the bread is as soft as a pillow. Sort of like sweet like a Hawaiian roll. 3. Flan- OH MY GOOD LAWD! This is hands down the best flan in north central Florida. So thick , so rich . I am in love. All I need was a little cafecito. I will definitely becoming back to taste some more of this menu! read more

Words can't explain how happy I am to have authentic, delicious, Filipino food in North Florida! This family owned business started off from a tent at food truck festivals, to 1 food truck, to 2 food trucks, and now a restaurant/bakery in Newberry. It's incredible to see how they have had so much success. They completely deserve it. The food is incredible, home made and so full of authentic Filipino Flavors. I can't say I have a favorite because every time I eat, I choose something different and fall in love. The atmosphere at any location is family friendly and when you talk to the Chef, the owners, and the servers, they're so kind, relatable, and make you feel at home. They also love to talk about the dishes! Ask them how to eat your halo halo ;) I was very fortunate to have my graduation catering from Filipino Flavors and my Venezuelan family from Miami was so impressed! I've been to the brick and mortar shop twice now and both times have been so delighted by the food and warm atmosphere that I always wonder why I don't make myself go more often. This time I ordered the tortang talong (eggplant omelette) with garlic rice - crispy, fragrant and entirely "more"ish. I had to force myself from eating the entire plate otherwise the staff would have found me napping on the floor later! I also got an order of the beef sinigang to go - I've only ever had pork or seafood, but after sneaking a sip of the broth, I can say it's perfect. Ended up getting an ube croissant for dessert and it's just as flaky, sweet and delicious as it looked on the restaurant's Instagram. From the looks outside it does not seem much but as you take the first bite of their dishes, authentic Filipino cooking bursting with flavors and the place is very clean. They also have Filipino desserts and treats. I had the pandan drink after my main food and it was amazing. It's an order the counter kind of place so if you order different dishes, you can basically share and everyone at your table can have a taste.
