Classic Flight: $20/person for 5 pours (fee waived with every $30 purchase). Rustic, family owned and operated winery, just down the street from our hotel (Hotel Calle Joaquin). Stopped in at the end of the day for a final tasting. We were the only customers there, and the original owner's granddaughter poured for us. She had very interesting stories of the family's history, and we even got to meet her mother & father, the second generation owners of this winery. The wines we tasted ranged from a crisp Chardonnay, a slightly oaked Viognier, to a cool-climate Syrah. The property was originally a cow and dairy farm, and the old barn is still there. The tasting room has some cool "artifacts" like the cattle branding iron, which is also on the labels of the wines. There's a pleasant outdoor patio next to the tasting room, and we were told that they also have an area back in a small canyon where they host weddings and other events. Filipponi Ranch is a nice, little diversion when you're traveling through the area. It's located right off the 101. Definitely worth checking them out. read more

My husband and I came here the day after we got married, and we loved the winery atmosphere. It is a small, family-owned winery. We had the privilege to meet one of the daughters who ran the place, Dana (hopefully I spelled that right). This is our first winery together, so we asked a lot questions to Dana. We can easily said that we were well-educated about winery LOL What we liked about the winery was the peaceful vibe. It wasn't in a busy area, and we felt relaxed while enjoying the wines. The cost to do wine tasting was $20/person for 5 different wine (2 whites, 3 reds) we ordered a charcuterie plate. It wasn't too fancy or anything, but it was needed for me. I believe we paid $25. When you arrive there, you are welcome to sit anywhere (indoor/outdoor). They will come to you and serve the wine when you are ready for the next one. read more

This is one of our fave smaller and quaint tasting rooms! Family owned and they are so sweet. We have been here twice and each encounter has been pleasant and fun. Today we had a glass of the Tre Sorelle and it was fresh and crisp. Definitely recommend checking this place out that's not too crowded, great wine and allows a chance to strike up a conversation with the owners. Very personable! read more

I came here for wine tasting with my boyfriend on a Sunday afternoon, no reservation was needed and we just walked in and they were able to help us! The atmosphere is very relaxed here and perfect for a relaxing date activity. There was indoor bar standing room available as well as outdoor seating. We tried the $20 wine tasting flight of 5 wines and all wines were very tasty. We bought a bottle which waived one tasting fee. They also had a Cabernet Sauvignon library wine tasting available, so we tried that as well and that too was tasty! Overall, it's a very welcoming place and would recommend visiting at least once! What a great little spot off Hwy 101. The original Swiss-Italian family settled here and bought the land in the early 1900's as a dairy farm. It now serves as a tasting room for the wine they make. Such sweet and personable people with a great story to tell. Worth the stop as they also sell some charcuterie plates to have with your wine. Cheers win!!! read more

When my wife and I were going to college at Cal Poly, this family operation was a dairy and cow business. It is south of San Luis Obispo on the right side of the freeway and you have to take an early exit and drive down the frontage road. Look at a map or follow internet directions to get here. Calle Joaquin? It is now a winery and they have some nice wines to sample. The old dairy buildings are now used for wine and their tasting area is the original family house. Nice tasting bar and you will more than likely see grandfather & grandmother chatting is chairs along the wall. There is a very nice outdoor patio, so if you like the weather, sit out there and enjoy it. Meet the family dog who is very friendly. The $10 tasting fee is waived if you by a bottle of wine. Very peaceful and relaxing. There was plenty of outdoor space and it's all covered by a tarp, so it's not too dusty and there is lots of shade. We were helped by Julie, who was extremely nice and told us about the property and its history. She was very welcoming and didn't make us feel rushed. Easy parking and very reasonably priced. We are wine lovers and members of 3 wine clubs. We bid on a dinner that the Filipponi's had so generously donated for Big Brothers/Big Sisters at the Harvest Festival. Diane Filipponi prepared a magnificent dinner for 6 of us. Herb Fillipponi gave us a history of the family and their wine maker paired the wines. It was a treat for all of us that we won't forget. All 3 couples bought wines and we all joined their wine club as the wines were excellent. Their remodeled family home makes a unique tasting room that is visible from Hwy 101 south but it is quiet inside and so worth the short drive down Calle Joaquin. Incredibly nice people and great little family business. They had a good mix of whites and reds and the family that owned and operated the winery was incredibly nice and helpful. They answered all our misc. questions and we got a true 1 on 1 experience with them. We ended up buying the 2015 Verdelho wine which waived the $10 tasting fee. Their wines were all very refreshing with a light finish and were great on their own. We felt like none of the wines were too heavy or had an aftertaste that required food. read more

My girlfriend and I traveled to SLO for our one year. Did some research and found this winery. Called in advanced to make sure that the winery was dog friendly. I was advised it was. Upon arrival (in an UBer; because we were driving) we exited the car and a male employee ran up to our UBer telling him to come back because dogs weren't allowed, causing a scene. Other guests even advised him that "hey they'll have to call another UBer let him go" we felt humiliated. Finally we then were notified that dogs are in fact allowed just not at the concert venue. If it weren't for this embarrassing and humiliating moment we might have returned. read more

We had a smaller event there recently (65 people) and it would be ample room for so many more of course. LOVED coming to this winery! We got a private tour from the family themselves of the tasting room, the grounds, and where all the wine barrels are! We learned about everything from where they get their grapes to the details of the wine tasting room and which parts of it are from the original house that was on the property. A lot of pride and effort went into perfecting every detail of the tasting room. And the most important part, I loved every wine I tasted! This tasting room is located in a beautifully restored old farmhouse. The house belonged to the grandfather and the present family came in and restored it and turned it into a lovely Tasting Room. We met several family members and the wine was delightful. read more
