Would highly recommend Tolosa Winery in SLO! We came here on our last night to have the classic local SLO wine tasting experience. After considering options that were farther like Paso Robles, I'm so glad we chose Tolosa. Driving up the road to the winery was so beautiful! It was its own paradise with a perfect view of the planes coming into the airport as well. We chose the patio which had a great view and also had heating lamps since it was chilly around 4pm. We split a signature tasting which included 5 pours of local wines - mostly reds. Our server was fantastic and he was super knowledgeable about the wines. It was cool to learn about the different fermenting processes. The wines were great but I'd probably pass on the charcuterie board next time ($30). It came in a plastic container which wasn't that pleasant. I'd definitely return for the wines and views! read more

Absolutely gorgeous in where the venue is located. The server in the tasting room is sucha sweetheart: she's also a cal poly grad! My friend and I tried the signature flight and all were delicious, but our fav is the first pour of the pinot. It was so good that we took a bottle home. I can't wait to try this with my family. The plants and view of the mountains in the front and patio while we enjoyed our wines was beautiful. What a great place to decompress from work. read more

This is my favorite winery to visit, and some of the best wines in the county. As a wine club member, we always take advantage of the Premier room for tastings. From the first moment when you check in and are handed a "welcome" glass of the features wine of the day to the last moment when you say goodbye, the staff are friendly and helpful, the wine is delightful, and the ambience is unmatched. This is the place I always bring friends relatives and visitors. For a change of pace, the outdoor patio is peaceful and beautiful, and the view is gorgeous. Highly recommended. read more

My family & I came here for wine tasting. We were immediately greeted with one free wine tasting as we were taken to our table (a nice touch ). We did the $45 wine tasting option & the wines were incredible. They're known for their Pinots. Kim was our server & she was so kind & even gave us some other winery recommendations. This was mine and my husband's 3rd visit to Tolosa and the first time bringing our kids. This was a birthday celebration weekend for me and what a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours drinking delicious wine at Tolosa! We sat in the Primera room and had excellent service! We had lovely views looking out through the windows while we enjoyed a yummy charcuterie board and of course drinking superb wine! After our tasting, we decided on taking a glass to enjoy outside and take a few family photos. Thank you Tolosa for making my birthday celebration so special! Cheers! read more

Several Flights to choose from: 1772 Flight and Perinet Flight: $45/person for 4-5 pours (fee waived with two bottle purchase). Library Flight $60, and Single Vineyard Flight $70. Cheese and Charcuterie plate $25. Beautiful property with a stunning indoor tasting area, as well as a very large outdoor patio. The production facility is quite large. The patio is directly under the final approach to SLO airport, which is kind of cool, but also disruptive to conversations. Kim poured for us and was friendly and informative regarding the wine selections. Our group of nine shared several of the various tasting flights (see above) and for the most part, found their wines to be well made. I thought that the tasting and bottle prices were a little on the expensive side (retail $48 - $76+). Unfortunately, we didn't take any wine with us. Overall, a nice property and good service. I would recommend you give them a visit and see for yourself. read more

For the first time ever, I was turned away from a winery--for simply wanting to buy a bottle of wine. Let me set the scene: a group of four, friendly and low-maintenance, walks into a tasting room. We let the hosts know we weren't here for a tasting--just wanted to purchase a bottle to enjoy together while we caught up. They said they needed to check with the team to see if they could accommodate us. When they came back, the answer was no. There were open tables (which I understand could be reserved), but even the bar was wide open. We weren't asking for a full tasting or VIP service--just the chance to stand, sip, and hang. That wasn't even offered as an option. And here's where it really stings: I run a family-owned tasting room myself. I know what it's like to be busy, but I would never turn away a bottle sale. If we can't offer a full tasting or seating, we always find a way to make the guest feel welcome. Because hospitality matters. I've been visiting Tolosa for 16 years. This was honestly such a disappointing experience. (Oh, and for context--half our group was sober, and the other half had just one tasting earlier. We were far from rowdy.) read more

I just have never liked their wines ever and I went to a cheese pairing there with wine and cheese and the amount of cheese they gave you was the size of my little fingernail. It was ridiculous and if you asked for more, they said no that really turned me off. read more

Beautiful location surrounded by vines and enchanting grasses... lovely young man greeted us and if only he was our attendant... we bought 2 high priced tasting s and a snack... was never offered water until we actually ordered a chargeable bottle...reserved all ahead of time... nice shaded table and watched planes coming in and grapes being brought in for processing... unfortunately the elderly gentleman who was assigned to us was a little low in energy and not very informative unless pressed about the wines or the vineyard... he was kind but always seemed eager to leave the table... the young man who greeted us is a gem in the rough... hope someone has a good eye for that quality... still would recommend if you enjoy chards and pinots... overall enjoyable read more

Was delighted to go to Tolosa Winery to do some wine tastings with a couple friends! We did the 1772 and the library tasting. We enjoyed the whole experience! Talosa had a small charcuterie box that could be purchased. Our server was sweet, personable, patient, and knowledgeable. It was in a beautiful setting. Winery was new and very clean. Party room for members was very nice with a beautiful view. It was busy on a Thursday. They need more servers if you are looking for this type of work. They pulled it off though. This was my favorite wine tasting experience on my most recent trip to SLO. The views are gorgeous and I love how you can see planes fly from your table (any table outside). The service was decently attentive and not overbearing. We enjoyed their Pinots and took home two bottles of the 1772 Pinot noir. One wine tasting fee is waived for every 2 bottle purchase. Their wines are on the pricier side compared to others within the area but well worth it. Also, they have two Tesla destination chargers here which is awesome. We were lucky that there was an open spot when we came. I'd definitely come back next time! read more

Meet the Business Owner: Robin B.

Vintner Robin Baggett returned to Edna Valley almost 40 years ago with a law degree and cowboy dreams of owning a cattle ranch like his grandfather. Having graduated from Cal Poly in 1973, he knew the area. He bought a historic ranch in the valley and began running cattle, but the cold Pacific wind and limestone soils made him realize he was on a different kind of frontier - one for world-class cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Being in a region with a grape-growing history that stretches back to the 18th century, when Franciscans at Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa produced some of California's first wines of distinction, planting wine grapes was a natural choice. Robin and his partner Bob Schiebelhut began planting vineyards in 1988, adding several other historic family ranches in the valley over time. Together with Jim Efird, now retired, they founded Tolosa in 1998. Robin's passion for wine making was born, and his wine journey began.

If we are having a great time we reciprocate with numerous wine purchases and a generous tip. We only purchased the minimum to wave our tasting fees and could only justify the very minimum of gratuity. I truly hope management reads this post and invests time in better training their employees. We are in the area often and would love to have a spot to sip some wine before dinner. I did not have a glass while there but I did sample their 2023 Chardonnay and it was very nice. We asked if they had any fully cooked bottles for us to take home and enjoy on a later date. They did and I'm very excited for the pairings I have in mind for this bottle. This experience has solidified that the wife and I will definitely need another date night but at the tasting room this time. Highly recommend this business.

Even though it was raining, there was plenty of seating for our group. They had heaters and blankets which were perfect. They are very red forward wines so if you're a white lover there's a smaller selection for you. We will definitely be back.
