The outside was crispy. I think down home more often than not it's boiled or slow cooked. I have no idea how they are cooking this. Super accommodating even though I came in 20 minutes before closing and then chose to dine in. Which is just annoying on my part. I have no excuse either. It's just Monday night and I didn't want to eat in my hotel room. There is a nice window with stools where the sun hits you in the face. Maybe it's not a big deal? The young lady at the counter was very attentive and well versed with the menu. She went into detail with dinner menu and explained how some of the meals are prepared. I was looking for a quick bite with a sleeping baby on hand. So I pulled into a plaza to get food from a "fast food chicken restaurant," and there it was, PolishPlate, in my direct line of sight before I could even park for some "generic fried chicken". When you got a sleeping baby, time is of the essence, so my concern was speed. I couldn't risk a lengthy dining experience on my own. I've done it many times, but today was a long day. So I peered into the windows from my car when I drove by, and I could see people standing in a line and what appeared to be menu screens behind the counter. YES! To go food. Getting to get some Polish food when you either don't have a Babcia or your Babcia isn't nearby is always a win. I had heard of PolishPlate but wasn't aware that was right off i84, exit 31 West Street. So it's easily accessible on the after work commute or if you have to pass through for the weekend. I went inside with baby car seat in hand to beautiful decorated To Go restaurant with red walls that had cool antique plates on them and 4-5 different old wood style tables. They had a counter set up very similar to a Deli or Subway with food in various containers. According to their menu they have both food ready to go and some options "made to order" like dessert fruit filled pierogis for example. I chose to do the option to Make My Own Platter/Meal. With this option you can choose a main dish. For me, it was Golabki (stuffed cabbage), potato/cheese pierogis, and sauerkraut (kapusta) salad. I food was served to me on a plate within minutes (already hot) and sat down at a table to quickly eat. The employee even helped me with a place to put my baby in her car seat. The food was delicious. The Golabki were SOO good, just like my Babcia makes them. They give you two of them as part of the meal. They give you 3 pierogis as well. The pierogis were delicious as well but I will opt next time for sautéed instead as that's what I'm used to with my Babcia. The Kapusta (sauerkraut salad) was just right. They only thing missing was pieces of kielbasa, which you can pay extra for and added in (next time!) What a surprisingly wonderful experience. Here I thought I was going for some generic fried chicken (always disappointing at that chain location) only to get AWESOME Polish cuisine instead. I may not be from Poland, and I've never been but to me it was a good representation of "Polish" food First you can easily pass this place, the canopy used for outdoor dining blocks the signage in front. I only know 4 Polish foods: Kielbasa, suaerkraut, potato pancakes , and pierogies. Coming here I realized that growing up I was eating my mother's version of 3 of those. The menu here is pretty simple, you can create your own plate or choose one of their creations. I like that they have both since some days I don't want to make decisions. They also offer a numer of salads, soups and desserts for you to enjoy. I started with the nachos(for Yelp's Nachovember)! Overall a great dish, with pierogies being the base instead of chips. It was topped with kielbasa, onions, peppers, jalapeños, cheese and more. So yummy and a great alternative to what we think of as traditional nachos. Next I tried the stuffed cabbage! My official favorite!!! It was stuffed with what I know as a corned beef hash. It had beef (and pork I believe) potatoes and onions. The cabbage wasn't soggy and still had texture. Delicious! There was also the sides of pierogies and a side of beets. They offered sweet or zesty beets. I can't recall which one I had, but I do recall wanting to take a container home. Lol. And between my 2 plates I was able to try 3 of their 5-6 daily pierogi offerings. I had the cheese & potato, the mushroom & suaerkraut (fave) and the meat. They were good but it's not like I'm some pierogi connoisseur. Lol Customer Service was excellent! I know he can't work 24 hrs a day and everyday, but Hopefully every visitor will experience Thomas! We ordered two plain potato pancakes ($4 each), a container of cucumber salad ($5.49), and a Fun Sized Yelp Nachovember order of those Polish Nachos ($5 with a Yelp check-in). Our food was fantastic. The Potato Pancakes were thin, super crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside, and served with nary a speck of grease. They were delicious. The cucumber salad was very good too, sliced cucumbers served in a creamy dill dressing. And those Polish Nachos!! A very solid pierogi and polish shop. They take traditional polish dishes and revamp them in very creative and interesting ways. One of those weird random places you should try if you get a chance. Today, I opted to do a mini-nachovember tour. I found 5 locations that were relatively close and decided to get a nacho from each one. This place was the farthest out, so we drove here to give them a try. The owner was manning the helm and was very helpful. We were just starting our tour, so we only got one sampler plate to try. They had lots of interesting takes on pierogis, a taco and a quesadilla, along with crepes and kielbasa sandwiches. Everything sounded good, but was not exactly what one would suspect for the dish. We got our Pierogi Nachos, and they were very good! The Pierogi had a nice sear on them and they had plenty of filling. The jalapenos all had a good amount of spice and the spicy mayo had a nice zing to it as well. The kelbasa was salty, meaty, but not too fatty. the cheese was light, but the farmers cheese in the pierogi was more than enough to carry the cheese flavor. Overall, the Nachos here were the most unique and the best tasting out of all the places we went to. A truly unique place to try, and good spin on polish food.
