This is a hidden gem in Putnam County! The food was excellent from start to finish. I had the chopped steak with a wonderful dinner salad and real mashed potatoes. Everything was excellent, and the waitress was efficient and attentive. They are closed on Monday's.

Wonderful place for breakfast. Just taxi the airplane right up to the ramp and walk on in. As of March 2020, this establishment is still open. Unlike the previous gentleman's comment.

Fly in for a quick and tasty meal. The restaurant is where the tinted windows are.

I had work out at Heritage Lake and decided to take my husband along and looked up restaurants in the area. The setting was beautiful, a slow day on the lake--no boats and a gentle lapping wave of the lake with warmish fall sun. They had a happy hour menu, being the bargain lady that I am--was excited to try! Well, we were greeted by our server and we ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc which she told us they were out of, we managed to go down the roster of wines which they were all out of with the exception of Pinot Grigio. Disappointed--we ordered it anyway since the happy hour special was 25 dollar bottles. I was hoping to have the special breaded tenderloin sandwich, but realized it was only on special on Monday's. We were thrilled to see an entree of walleye, watermelon, cucumber and onion salad plus fried biscuits and apple butter on the menu! We didn't hesitate to order it to share , as walleye is one of our favorites! They also had corn chowder--which sounded great to me. So I ordered it. Our wine arrived with two very cloudy stemless glasses. We both looked at the glasses with slight fear and we both simultaneously picked up our napkins to wipe them off. My husband's glass was dirty--like dirty, dirty. The napkin was pink with lipstick residue and strawberry seeds. I immediately took the glasses back to the bar to exchange for moderately clean ones. Strike one. The food came and didn't look terrible. I'm sorry, but I took one bite of that fish and knew immediately it was not walleye. It tasted definitively of perch--which I have never been a fan of. Have you ever had a brown corn chowder? I haven't, but I was willing to give it a try--two bites and I was not impressed and abandoned it. The French fries were the best part of the meal, unfortunately. Thank God for the wine! Did we complain? No. We weren't in the mood and I was too tired. But the server did ask if I disliked the soup. I couldn't lie. She immediately took it off the bill. And my husband, being the observant one noticed something white in the bottom of the watermelon bowl. Unsure what it was, he picked it up and it seemed to be a piece of raw fish. Could be wrong but it definitely was out of place in a bowl of watermelon. And when the server brought the handheld register--she preselected the 25% . I'm sorry, she was good but not great. I gave her 20%, even though I was very put off by her thinking she was worth 25%. Plus, on the ticket, it had suggested tip amounts based on the after tax amount. I have always been taught it was on the subtotal. I dunno--that kind of rubbed me wrong. I would return possibly for cocktails maybe, but I will definitely leave the food alone.

The AVG is definitely a neighborhood tavern. It's cozy and very laid back with high top tables. I ordered an Old Fashioned but mixed drinks weren't really on offer unless it was something like rum and coke. I had a beer. It was fine. We were there for about an hour and a half. I would definitely return. The vibes were slow paced. We moved on to The Checkered Flag. Wowza!! It was a Thursday night but the place was hopping. We were joined by another friend with plans to have a bite to eat. The menu is unbelievable. So much to choose from. We were kind of boring because 3 of us chose the same thing and the other two chose the same item. Two had the pork tenderloin. Both agreed it was excellent. Three of us had the BBQ Pork spud. It's a giant baked potato with butter, a good spread of pimento cheese, moist pulled pork, BBQ sauce, coleslaw and green onions. It was fantastic. Normally the pork can become a bit dry. This was not the case. Cooked perfectly. I was able to order the Old Fashioned. They apologized because they were out of oranges but I was fine. It was a very good drink. There happened to be two musicians performing. I was quite impressed. This tavern was very very impressive. We all agreed to return Our final stop was Herrmann. It's a small brewery tucked away off a quiet street. We were offered several tastings of the beers on offer. We were all able to find something to our liking. I had a porter. There are tables for four spread around the seating area. It's comfortable and definitely a neighborhood haunt. All three places were definitely neighborhood taverns. The Checkered Flag was hands down the best! Indy has so much to offer!

I paid the $8 to upgrade the mac to lobster mac...so delicious & so worth it (the upgrade was so unnecessary but so necessary, iykyk!). I also love that they allow you to mix & match on the sliders (filet, fried shrimp, or wagyu beef with Brie). I went with 1 filet and 1 wagyu beef, which was also perfect! Would love to try the fried shrimp at some point. The accompanying aiolis perfectly complemented the sliders! I completed my meal with a lemon drop martini. Service was friendly & attentive. Will definitely keep this spot in mind the next time I return to Indy & would highly recommend to others. In fact, I found it superior to my experience @ Harry & Izzy's--much more my vibe!
