I suggested Pilates to a friend who was looking to increase flexibility, and we chose Body in Balance LI because it was close to work. Susan set us up with duet sessions so we can work out together, and she accommodates our different needs and skill levels (as a newcomer and long(ish)-time practitioner) almost seamlessly. Her instructions are easy to follow and her tactile feedback is immensely helpful. I recommend Body in Balance LI for both someone who's been practicing for a long time and someone newly interested in Pilates.

I've not tried any but have been approached by some to test drive a session. Right now I'm there for the row. In a separate room Row45 has two rows of rowers for group rowing . It's a workout for those of us who avoid high impact and want flexibility and strength training. There are those who are naturally strong and those that are naturally fast and those that are naturally flexible. This work out gives you what you need to level up. Beth is awesome at coaching you into perfect form. I love her energy. Kelly has been a collegiate rower so you feel you are part of a team. She has a fresh approach. Both have been my go to "coaches" in my journey up stream. There are two locations tI've been to and prefer the room at their Jericho studio.

Staff seemed nice, etiquette wasn't terrible, gym music was not at all overbearing…read more Interesting mix of gym goers (older, younger, college students, groups of broccolis at some machines), not a lot of "gym bros." For the most part, everyone just kind of does their own thing which is good. Equipment looked a bit run down, rusty, kind of dirty, machine pads splitting and breaking apart. The gym itself is super messy, there are maybe 10 mismatched dumbbells on the rack at any given time because all of the equipment is just thrown all over the place - ex., one 30lb dumbbell here and the other is underneath a bench at the far end of the gym. The lighting gives you a Dollar Tree vibe - It's actually kind of sad and depressing. Locker rooms are a little crowded, maybe a bit less crowded during the day. Apparently this location will be going through a renovation period, so maybe it will be better when done. Overall experience? Wasn't terrible, I got my workout in, however, I think LA Fitness needs to hire better management and a better staff - a staff that will stay on top of certain issues and care about the overall gym goer experience. It seems like some of the complaints from years ago were never really addressed. A renovation would be nice but won't mean anything if you still have the same management and staff working there.

Then I heard about the trainers at Emerge that could come work on yoga and pilates with me in my own apartment. I thought, "why not give it a go?" It was so convenient to have the trainer come to me, and they were so flexible about timing with my work schedule. They're experienced to work with clients from beginner to advanced levels, so don't worry about your skill level. After the first session, I was amazed at how much of a good workout it was. I've done 4 sessions now, and I can actually see the results - I'm clearly getting more flexible and achieving a stronger core. This has even carried over into my work, and I can feel myself being more relaxed and focused. For yoga and pilates lovers, I'd definitely recommend trying out a personal trainer session at Emerge!

Megan is fast becoming one of the most popular coaches at our rink (Chelsea Piers) due to her warm, caring personality and willingness to go the extra mile in supporting her students' progress. Megan is so genuinely supportive and encouraging, both in person and electronically. She brightens up a room and always manages to turn my frown upside-down. I appreciate that she is a very active coach when it comes to demonstrating moves (rather than being stationary as some coaches are) and she also performs in shows, which is very inspirational. I love that Megan is also my height! Her physique is athletic and her ballet background is truly evident in her skating. I started off in an adult group class with Megan as our coach and then chose Megan as my personal coach, on and off the ice, as did a number of others in our class. I have had several coaches before in this country and elsewhere. Megan is my favourite by far and I can't imagine a better coach for me. I can't imagine skating without Megan...

Noooo but OTF is a lot of fun and I love the workouts Alright, so what is orangetheory? It's a fun challenging 1 hour workout that's half cardio and half weights. Every class is different but it's usually a mix of the waterrower, treadmill (or bike or strider), TRX, free weights and body weight exercises. There are screens throughout the studio that show your stats (heart rate, zone, calories burned etc) and I like it because it's like a game to me, I want to get as many splat points as I can orrrr at least 12. Best part is that your performance summary is emailed to you after class so that you can nerd out over the data if you're into that sort of thing... like I am =) Carle Place is my favorite OTF studio (I only made the mistake once of visiting a different location, oops). All the trainers and front desk staff are nice and friendly, it's a very welcoming gym imo. The trainers are knowledgeable, they'll correct your form or give you alternative exercises to do if you have an injury or something. I have some disc and ankle issues and I've been able to complete every class I've gone to over the past year and a half. I highly recommend giving OTF a try, I think the first class is free anyways!

This is not my home location, and I have been to at least 5 other Orangetheory locations before…read morethis one. I only came here 3 times (on 3 separate days with a different instructor for each class) while I was staying in the area. My main complaint about this location is that I only saw 2G options (less people per class than 3G), even during a high-demand period (Transformation Challenge, plus early in the calendar year when people are working on fitness goals). The classes during this time should be 3G to allow for more people to attend instead of filling up so quickly. Transformation Challenge promotes people going to class more often, but that is made difficult when class sizes are so limited. Pros: I do love Orangetheory in general. The class styles benefit me and my doctors have seen improvements in my physical injuries. The equipment in this location is in very good condition, especially compared to locations that have much more volume of people attending classes. The instructors were generally great, but there could have been more attentiveness with the participants making sure we each had the correct form considering the classes here are smaller than most others I have been used to. Convenient location if you drive, can park in the shared shopping center parking lot (though the lot does get very busy). Cons: The con I mentioned above about lack of 3G classes during a really high-demand period. The music and microphone were VERY loud in each of the classes. It hurt my ears while on the treadmill but I didn't find an opportunity to say anything because I didn't want to interrupt my workout, and nobody else was saying anything. I didn't see any earplugs when I came in, so I don't know if they aren't given out at this location or they were just not on display. People had their cellphones with them during class and were using them while actively on the treadmill. I've never been to a location where people weren't reminded not to bring their cellphones into the gym for safety. This location doesn't have as many class offerings as some others, which I completely understand if there isn't demand for it in this area, but after the last morning class before they break for the afternoon I felt rushed even just trying to stretch for a few more minutes. The staff rushes to clean and leave and lock up. This doesn't promote stretching or showering after a class. One day the lights were turned off while I was still getting my coat on near the lockers.
