The museum is cozy and transmits a historic vibe, being set in the old firehouse station, and features a charming patio perfect for enjoying a refreshing afternoon or a starry night. The exhibit is beautifully curated and full of life, it truly immerses you in her journey and fills you with the energy of her achievements. It's inspiring to see Celia throughout all her phases, uplifting your spirit and reminding you of the incredible, adventurous experiences life can bring. I really appreciate when institutions pay homage to true Latin icons with all the glory that a symbol of Latin music and culture deserves. Even though the exhibit is small, it's a joyful little capsule of azúcar that reminds you that life is a carnival of happiness. La Reina Celia will always live on through us, every time we dance to her rhythms and step into her world. Just wish it would be a little bigger as the ticket might be a little bit expensive for the exhibitions space and offer (my only reason I don't that the final star it deserves). Coral Gables Museum, keep nourishing our spirit with exhibits like this.

This was my second visit to the RBB festival. Like other festivals at Fruit & Spice Park, you can…read moreopt to try your luck parking on the swale of SW 248 St., or you can, for only $5 park in a field on the east side of the park with it's own entrance. You pay the $10 festival admission at the same time as the parking. It is much easier this way. The price of admission lets you see the whole park, if you're into horticulture. The fest itself takes up about half the park. There were several bbq vendors, as well as a Thai food booth and a conch fritter booth (George Mira's: very delicious). I enjoyed my first visit better; some of the things that changed were 1) there were only 2 bands, whereas before there'd been at least 5. One of the bands, Southern Stampede, featuring young guitar virtuoso AJ Gaytan, was great, and alone worth the price of admission. 2) There was only one one beer vendor, Exit One Taproom of Florida City. They were good, don't get me wrong, but you only got a small cup of craft beer for $6. Previously, some food vendors were allowed to sell more mainstream beer at a better price; I bet it's probably some dumb legal rule the Miami-Dade Parks Dept. thought up! Luckily, you ARE allowed (at least through the side entrance) to bring in a cooler, so I had plenty of Bud Light (my preferred choice if I'm going to be in the hot sun listening to music for awhile). 3) The prices of the ribs were high, as they were only selling full, or in some cases, half racks. I thought it'd be a cool idea to have, say, a sampler portion at a reasonable cost so you could pick and choose. I ended up choosing a known vendor, T&W Barbecue, with a smokey Georgia style full rack, as well as an order of redneck nachos, featuring wonderfully tender pulled bbq pork. 4) This is a family friendly event, but it'd be nice if they provided a separate play area. I was seated near the stage trying to enjoy the bands, but a lot of kids and parents were playing ball and blocking the view. For the life of me, I don't know why these parents were letting their kids within feet of PA speakers blasting high decibel music with no ear protection, but.... In any case, this is an enjoyable springtime festival that is worth a visit. Just bring cash for the bbq, and your own beer filled cooler, and you'll be fine!

The Grove is my favorite neighborhood, and this weekend of…read morethe festival is a celebration of what it means to be a Groveite - you have a reason to be outside, you can enjoy drinks, and you can experience local art, as well as art from folks around the country. This festival takes over a good chunk of the grove, lining the streets from Main Hwy and Peacock park all the way to City hall. Tickets have increased in price but as a Grove resident you get them for $20 versus $35. Over the years I have purchased a bunch of fun prints at this festival, and I love that they have affordable art. They of course, have items at a higher price tag if you are looking for original pieces as well. Even if you don't buy anything, it's a great excuse to stroll with friends and a cold drink in hand. The festival also does a really good job at curating live entertainment throughout the day. While it runs from Saturday - Monday of the long weekend, going on a Sunday is the perfect Grove Sunday Funday since the rest of the Grove is bustling with activity from everyone being at both this festival, and the St. Stephens festival which runs alongside it (for free).

Be taken away by the vibrant junkanoo band dancing along the park and the bands on stage performing. There's a whole section for alcohol and on the other different Caribbean, fried foods, fresh juices, and desserts. Be prepared to wait in lines as everyone came for all of it. My suggestion is make a plan and have friends wait in different lines and than post up a spot to indulge in it all

It worked out very well for us since we got to spend the whole day together. We went on a weekday and it was not that busy. But on weekends and night time, I heard it's more busy with the amount of people trying to take selfies. In my Instagram account, my local friends asked me where this is exactly located. It is in Giralda Plaza of Coral Gables. There are restaurants and shops on both sides of the umbrellas. This art installation is by Portugal agency Sextafeira. They have done other such installations in other parts of the world. I did see some umbrellas in the sky in Lisbon while I visited. It was nice to see more in SOFL. Side Note- Metered parking options are all around this area. - The umbrellas will come down most probably tomorrow or in a few more days, so if you want to go, go today.

Now, a few things to note: -The best place is to park nearby is in the parking garage next to Bocas House. That is, of course, you're going solely to visit this spectacle. -And yes, I mean, spectacle as the secret's out! Everyone and their mother will be there taking photos. -This is free and no one is monitoring anything, so first come, first serve. -Aside from the hanging umbrellas, there is a backdrop saying Umbrella Sky with more umbrellas. There's also some by a restaurant that you can grab. -Expect to spend fifteen or so minutes there. This is cute, but the novelty and crowds will eventually turn you off. If not that, then definitely the heat or the rain. So essentially, you do this once for a photo to say you've been there, done that. That's all there is to it.

I don't know how much of this is true, but what is true is that over and over again someone creates an event where common people are allowed to enjoy fine art. Whether it is at a mall, at a hotel or at a government building, the trend is present and has lasted for hundreds of years. Fast forward to 2012, location Miami, Florida. Viernes Culturales is an event where restaurants, galleries, clubs and street vendors, among others, participate. Starting on 17th Avenue and down to 13th Avenue, merchants set up on the streets of Calle Ocho to turn it into what looks like a street fair. The City of Miami sets up an event area in the alley next to the Tower Theater to host DJs, performers, artists and sellers. Sponsors set up booths around here and offer free tastings and free gifts. Down by the McDonald's on 14th Avenue a mini market is set up where jewelers and carpenters are offering their goods. The restaurants that occupy the vicinity are all open for business. Probably this time of the month is the most active for them, though they don't offer anything special other than their regular menus. The most notable ones are Catharsis and Casa Panza, the latter making a giant paella outdoors. Almost all restaurant have performers playing Latin music or DJs either inside or outdoors. At one of the larger eateries I saw a whole orchestra set up outside. Probably the businesses that benefit the most are the art galleries. Some display the works of many local artist, some are owned by artists displaying their work. Most artwork is for sale, and some is just on loan for the occasion. Many studios also offer complimentary food and beverage, normally paid by a sponsor. The largest gallery of the bunch had a jazz trio when I visited. The band, along with the free wine, made things upbeat and sophisticated. Nightclubs and bars also have their doors open, regardless of the time of day. If you walk down the streets, you'll be able to buy drinks like "mojitos" and "Cuba libres". If you feel like getting down to boogie, you won't have a problem finding a good spot, let alone the fact that people are dancing on the streets. Cigars shops close the roundup, surprisingly hosting performers and smokers alike. If you show up you will definitely have a great time. If you want to have dinner at Viernes Culturales I would recommend checking the restaurants' info prior to arrival. The galleries showcase some amazing artwork, and the streets are filled with beautiful knick knacks. The crowds are large but not suffocating, making it good for kids. Some bars are hosting great parties, and last but not least, you can stop by one of Miami's best ice cream parlors called Azucar.

All this and more can be had for about your $5 parking at Calle 8's Viernes Cultural! The "Viernes Cultural" (or Cultural Fridays) occur the last Friday of every month on about 3 block stretch of Calle 8 (SW 8th Street) between 14th and 17th Avenues during the early evening. For those 3 hours you get to check out street performers, established exilio artists, as well as artists just arrived from Cuba (i.e. the kitty painting). There's also the $3 mojitos and Cuba Libres (rum and coke), as well as the opportunity to check out various restaurants. A couple of the streets had street musicians jamming out to salsa, son and merengue standards, one supposedly with Luis Enrique's drummer. True, the street outside one a couple of the clubs can get a raunchy reggaeton vibe similar to the better known Calle 8 festival, but still it's fun. GenArt Vanguard continues to be my favorite gallery every year…read more This year, GenArt was stationed at Aqua, a much bigger and better venue than in 2008. They really deserve this space - so much more great art around every corner. The opening party was also fantastic. The bars were stocked, the music was fun, and the crowd was definitely interesting. I was sad that some of the artists in GenArt last year were nowhere to be seen - no Sas Christian? :( If I had to choose one gallery out of the many on Miami Beach and The Design District to purchase all my art from - it would definitely be GenArt.

There are several magazines that host Young Hollywood type of parties. If Art Basel had a young,…read morefabulous, AND locals-centric party this would be it. It's nearly impossible to not run into someone you know, someone you love, someone you used to love, and someone who will be a future love. ;-) But once you get beyond the lines for free drinks and the buzzing crowds of kisses on the cheeks and hugs to all, you can move along to the real deal aka the art. Reminiscent of Scope this fair brings a youthful energy. Curated by Franceso LoCastro in years past this year Vanguard scaled down but kept that modern hi/low vibe. I'd suggest checking out the party but then stopping in for a few on a slower, tamer, Saturday.
