I have never bought a bad record here. Quality is always great. I grew up in Orange and I visit this special place each time I come home.

The first thing you need to know is they have extremely limited hours right now, basically Fri, Sat, Sun and only in the afternoons. They also don't have a working phone number where you can leave a message nor does it state their hours. I therefore had to drive there on Monday afternoon to see the sign on the door. So I get down there on a Saturday, where parking is kind of challenging, to look for a very specific album. Everything is in alphabetical order regardless of genre. I didn't see what I was looking for at first, but as I was browsing the rest of the small store, a nice lady asked if I was looking for something specific. I told her and another gentlemen said we should have that. Sure enough, they had the album. Compared to eBay, it was much pricier, as in almost double or triple at $18. However, I had it immediately in my hot little hands and was able to truly gage the condition. All their albums come in a non-tight plastic covering and are well protected from fingerprints and other oily damage. (On a side note - I saw a sign that said "Food and Drink Welcome" which is very different from all the antique stores in Downtown Orange.) I left happy that I found the album I was looking for, and that I was able to support a local business. There seemed to be a steady stream of customers coming in, but like most record stores, most are just browsing for fun. I did see another customer buy something as I entered which made me feel good. One thing for certain is if your looking for a used 45's - they have 1000's! They also had a few band shirts in front. It's a great addition to Downtown Orange. read more

I love record stores, and was happy that downtown Orange has a small vinyl place. But unfortunately, Mr. C's Rare Records is kinda small, dusty store, with a tiny selection, high prices. It's just not a fun place to browse around. They close too early at 5 pm and don't open on Sundays! I guess if you're in the area and like music and collect vinyl, give it a shot. Left the store in tears from how poorly I was treated. The lady working there was extremely rude and yelled at me for removing a clip off the wall. I was browsing through some records and I wouldn't have done that on purpose had I known. Then when I tried to remove the record "clip and all" as she said, she snapped at me again because I wasn't doing it the way she wanted. I was honestly trying really hard to remove the record the way she wanted but since she didn't give very detailed instructions in was difficult to make her satisfied. I ended running out of the store in tears. I'm not sure what I did to deserve the way she treated me. It's one thing to be rude and grumpy to customers but to deliberately yell at someone is uncalled for. read more

First and foremost, the only rare thing about this shop is, that it's RARELY open. So today as I am strolling down the antique shops of Orange, I had noticed the doors were open, so popped in. The shop itself is very cute, and organized. I personally love when record shops have everything labeled and organized. Anyways, I looked for some Barbra Streisand and Woody Allen records. They were asking for $24-40 bucks for a single record... I own just about every album they had of Barbra Streisand there, and I had to them each for a $1 in great condition.. Sorry, just because you're selling records doesn't mean they need to be $20-30 bucks. I'm very curious as to who is buying records at such insane price? The owners and employees seem like sweethearts if that makes up for anything. Please don't waste your money. If anything message me and I'll personally got her your album at a lower price. read more

I've been in Mr. C's a few times as I work in the area. My issue with the store is that, as many of the reviews point out, they are completely overpriced with very little starting below $20. This may be a good price for a near mint album, but the collection at Mr. C's is pretty beat up and many of the antique stores in the area have better collections, better quality and more reasonable prices. I've also found that the owners(?) are really rude and dismissive. As I was browsing in the store, the older woman and the man were complaining about the university's graduation schedule and how busy that would make them. From what I heard it sounded like they were upset that they would have to be open more days. Again, complaining(!!!) not celebrating the fact that people would be coming into the store and possibly looking for gifts and actually buying their over-priced stock. I've never understood stores located in college towns that refuse to embrace the built-in clientele. I inquired about a series of records - she stared at me blankly as if I was making up their very existence. She never once looked in a book or tried to get more information to be able to help, just stared at me and said she had never heard of it (so clearly it didn't exist). I also asked her where her a certain genre of records were, she pointed to a small corner on the wall with maybe 6 albums hanging up and said, "They're all right here. That's all I have" That was fine and informative, but in actuality, searching on my own I found a section in the bins dedicated to this genre as well as a section of 35s dedicated to the genre. Overall, the store and their demeanor feels like it's a garage sale where the owner doesn't really want to sell things, they just want you to know what they have. For the reviews that said the store doesn't have a phone. They do. When I've been in and it's ringing, she normally just picks it up and immediately hangs it up so it stops ringing. Sadly, eBay is always going to have better prices, but so will most other record stores in the area. read more

There was absolutely NO ONE in the store. I was not greeted not looked at, but I didn't care. I went through some collections trying to find my favorite bands. A few "caucasians" came in and started looking. The old cranky lady asked them "do you need any help?" A few more Caucasians walked in, "do you need help finding anything?" I was right in front in the middle of the store searching and searching, I was not acknowledged once for my existance. Starting price for records were $22!! Not $21. Not $20. And they go up! $44. $74. Small section for $3 but they were biblical records ad political musings that were just collecting dust. My bf had his phone out and we were yelled at to not be taking pictures. We weren't. Terrible prices. Terrible collection. Terrible racist old people. I suppose this is a great spot if you are, in fact, looking for some rare records. But come here prepare to pay handsomely for them, because their pricing is much higher than the average record store. What these guys can offer is knowledge, and a lot of it. My gf wanted some old-timey jazz records - the kind of stuff you'd listen to at dinner - and the guy working that day knew just what she meant. He was able to pull all sorts of old vinyl out for her to sample, patiently waiting for her to confirm whether it was what she wanted or not. I, on the other hand, browsed the main floor for a while before coming across my favorite section, soundtracks, which were ignominiously crammed into a corner near the front and all lined up in tight rows. How the hell am I supposed to check out hundreds of titles when all I can see are tightly-packed, faded spines with minute writing? Bummer, and a sure guarantee I won't make many return trips because I can't properly browse what I want. They do have many great titles here, but like I said the cost is going to be prohibitive to those who know vinyl pricing. Of the few soundtrack albums I was interested in, all were priced almost double what I've seen them going for elsewhere. And it isn't like the condition here was immaculate or anything. With kinder pricing, this could be a record mecca. As it stands, I can't really recommend this over other shops simply because they aren't priced right. read more

By chance I happen to be walking down the street when I saw that store. I never ventured up past the circle, so when I saw this store, I was curious to see what's inside. The few times I have stopped here was just to browse and see if I can find anything worth getting. For a record store, I expected this place to be small, and it was. It was wall to wall of records. Not too long ago, I heard a song. Tried using several music ID apps to see if they could find the title and artist, but it turned up nothing. Shortly after, I was able to get the title and artist of the song. "Vedrai" by the Sherry Sisters First I went to YouTube to see if anyone uploaded the song there. Nope! Although other songs from the Sherry Sisters were there to view, this particular song wasn't. I Googled the info and not much was found. After a while of searching online, I was trying to think of where else I could go. Mr. C's Rare Records! That's where I will go. With all those records in that store, I hope to find what I am looking for. So when I finally have some free time, I head on over. The two older gentlemen at the counter greeted me with a "Hello" and "Welcome". At first, I tried to just see if I can find it on my own. But I was so overwhelmed on where to start looking. Shortly after trying to find it for myself, one of the gentlemen asked if I needed help finding something. I told him I was looking for a song from The Sherry Sisters. He went over to where it may be. He started to scan through the records. Nothing. He pointed in another area where it might be. As I was scanning through them, the other gentleman had asked what I was looking for. A couple minutes later, he brings over some 45's. He mentions that The Sherry Sisters are the same group as The Sherrys. I told him that The Sherry Sisters had are known for a particular song, but he had never heard of it. The land of 45s! Stuck my head in here and was amazed at the number of 7"s available. This made me wish I had a jukebox to fill. As with the other record stores I've visited on my trip here, it's unlike anything I have in Florida. Also, I gather you can dig up most of what you find at any local shop online for cheaper. Maybe there is some great store with super cheap prices but after years of languish in .99 bins most vinyl shops have realized there is a demand again. I don't mind paying more for the instant gratification and the fact THEY spent the time stocking something I found interesting. So the bitching about pricing to me in general is moot. read more

As a professional dealer of vintage vinyl, I was amazed at the collection and, especially, organization of this shop and the knowledge of its curator. Contrary to what many have written here, the prices for that rare vinyl LP were actually very reasonable. After all, it's Mr. C's "RARE" Records. They have LPs nobody else has in a brick and mortar shop in SoCal. I found a Brazilian pressing of A.C. Jobim's Terra Brasilis for $16, half of the lowest on-line price for its M- condition - you're not finding that one in a record store in CA. The "dollar" bin is great with LPs in both in-demand and condition that would easily command 3-5 times their selling cost. As one other reviewer wrote they are selling Boston for $24? Don't come here looking for Boston as you can find that junk in a garage sale for a $1. I believe Epic made about 20M copies because "You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time but you cannot fool all the people all the time". I think I will call the owner today and see if they can get me a copy of "Relaxin' With Miles Davis" on Prestige. Cool vintage stereo gear as well! read more

I find it amusing to read some of the reviews on here. Maybe they are the Gen Y crowd that now think they're hip because they've discovered "vinyls". If you want new digitally pressed 21st century records of your favorite top 40 artists, go to one of the many new record retailers throughout LA or Orange. If you want original pressings from the 40's-80's, then visit this store. You don't go to an antique store and whine about the prices compared to Ikea FFS. Bit expensive sometimes, for sure but have a bit of respect for a store that specializes in collectable and original pressings. I'll be back. read more

I went in today looking for a few new albums, and walked out with a ton of knowledge, the card for a guy that can restore my grandma's vintage Magnavox Console from the 60's, and a new favorite record store. Everett and Helen were super helpful and couldn't be nicer or more pleasant to chat with. I have to wonder where all the bad reviews are coming from, when I was there the store was full of a mix of customers and they were absolutely delightful to everyone. You can't beat the friendliness and knowledge of the employees here. I stopped in one day after having bought a couple records at another shop, and the older gentleman working there was curious about what I had bought. I showed him a poor condition vinyl I'd bought for just a couple bucks, and he went and brought the same one out from the back of the shop, unopened, still in it's original wrapping, and traded me for it right there. No cost, I got a unopened record for my crappy one. While others are right about the higher prices- generally Vinyls are $15+, what they don't realize is the $30 Boston record they saw for $3 or $5 dollars at other records store might not be a first pressing. Many of the records sold at this store are, and thus are worth a little more. Great guys, very helpful and knowledgeable, and while the prices are a little steep, you are buying a little higher quality. read more

This older woman who was behind the counter came out to look at what I had, and offered me $30 for over 100 LPs. If I could give this place a zero I would. What does the 'C' in Mr C stand for; Cranky? Judging by the personalities of the 2 cranky men who would work there. Or Crappy as in crap prices. Nothing in the store stands out besides the laughable prices. I asked one of the two men who worked their about Rolling Stone import albums from the U.K., one of them said 'Look in the bin', there wasn't any, to which he replied 'No one wants the overseas stuff just the American pressings. I brought the boy here because he is a big record collector and I knew he would like this place. Unfortunately, the record that he wanted was $275. The price made me laugh. It was for "Surfin' Hootenanny".. I found it cheaper on Amazon.com.
