Awesome service! Went with my daughter to buy a pair of shoes for her job at a theme park. We were greeted enthusiastically and were asked what we needed. The young lady asked a few questions and found the perfect pair of shoes and sold us 2 dozen pairs of socks as well. I thanked her for the great service, she thanked me for our business read more

Main, just off campus. This venue is small, but it boasts a LOT of Hokie stuff. Going back to its size - this place is packed on football gamedays, so be ready to squeeze your way through the aisles. Also, since it's downtown, parking isn't readily available. You'll have to park at a nearby garage (or maybe be lucky enough to find street parking) and walk. Emporium's employees are nice. From what I can tell, their staff is mostly adults (i.e, non-students) - I didn't see any students working during my most recent visit. But all the employees I've encountered are friendly, helpful and professional. Their prices are competitive, based on like items (items that I also saw at Rally House), and Emporium boasts products that are bit more exclusive (locally made t-shirts, VT-specific shirts, things of that variety) and unique. Super slow. It took about 20 minutes in line with 3 people ahead of me. They had two cashiers…read moreworking. No hello or any eye contact at all. The only thing the cashier said was 16.27 and yelled for her colleague to help on the register. The line is a long winding one difficult with a walker or wheelchair to go thru the small aisle and to the registers. I guess they do this in most stores to sell additional items but it's hard for some of us to dodge and not get stuck. The beauty section lady was very nice. That's the only reason they get 2 stars. The store was organized in that section and she was very helpful. They had plenty of disabled spots in the parking lot.

The staff was friendly and tried to help. But their knowledge was limited. They are entirely dependent on the foot scanner, which isn't entirely accurate. Plus they don't have a lot of knowledge about the different needs of shoes for marathon running, hiking, or just day to day. But while we were there, 6 other shoppers walked in. They were able to help everyone with their needs. We had my husband fitted for some shoes. First we verified the type of runner's foot he has, then he was able to sample a few different shoes. He finally found one he liked, but he needed a wider shoe. The guys were gracious to order the shoe for him and will ship it to us. I also walked out with a new cushioned shoe - and on clearance! Now I'm ready to keep running in comfort!

DICK'S Sporting Goods

Went to the Christiansburg location to buy an in-stock bike. I was told they could not sell it to…read moreme in the box. I explained I was from out of town. Didn't matter. I explained that my wife bought a bike in the box in the Roanoke store the previous week. Didn't matter. It's listed in stock and available for pick up. Didn't matter. It's right there. Didn't matter. Is this the policy because Roanoke did it. Not a policy... it's our "preference". Great, please sell me the bike. Didn't matter. Manager intimated that I wasn't being "professional" (not cursing or yelling on my part... just flabbergasted that it's this hard to hand Dicks money), and threw his staff under the bus -"I thought my employee could handle this" (I wasn't looking to be "handled" just wanted to buy a bike). He also said " I was going to offer you a discount". I explained I do not want a discount... I just want the bike so I can go riding with my wife this weekend. Didn't matter. I asked if it could be transferred to Roanoke in the box. He said that if Roanoke "wanted to get in trouble they could" and announced he had to go pick up his brother. Told him to drive safely. OK, is there another manager? 2nd manager refused to sell me the bike. Can you transfer to Roanoke? 2nd Manager (Ryan... although I don't believe this is how he spells it) said he would if it was OK with the Roanoke manager and even offered to drive it down in his personal vehicle after his shift (well done Ryan). Didn't matter because the manager in Roanoke would only do this if I picked it up at closing time. Can't I pick it up tomorrow? Only if it's "9AM sharp". But I'm out of town. Didn't matter. Roanoke manager "didn't want it on their floor". So I have to pick it up by appointment at your convenience rather than tomorrow afternoon? Didn't matter. What gives? Obviously not a liability thing- they were happy to sell me the bike in the box as long as I was willing to wait a day, go to a different city, and show up precisely when they preferred (when I was out of town). As they had told me the regional manager was coming into town and the communication seemed to oddly revolve around winning rather than selling me the bike I told the 2nd manager to give my number to the regional manager and that we could either work the issue out (wherein I simply hand someone a credit card and receive a bike) or I would just return the items purchased last week (incl. helmet, gloves, chain, vehicle rack, etc ). If I could have returned the first bike I would have (although it wasn't ridden it had been purchased over 24 hours ago). Interestingly, I was told that 24 hours was the policy but the store manager could override the policy. So the manager can override policy? Uh... OK. Having spent an hour and a half of my life attempting to buy an in-stock item, my desire to attempt to assist a third manager in a second store to understand this incredibly flawed internal logic had vanished. No call from the district manager yet so in the end I returned the above items to the Roanoke store as bike accessories do me no good without a bike. Despite my best efforts, and an hour and a half of my life, I could not hand anyone at Dicks my money today. Weird.

They don't sell ammo or guns anymore so this place is just an overpriced clothing store. If I need…read more$80 sweatpants I know where to come. Besides the customer service here always sucked but I sucked it up cuz they sold guns and ammo. Waste of time!

For these reasons and many others, Antiques on Main is my favorite vintage/antique store in Christiansburg. This store is huge! It has many different rooms full of old things. I'm always on the lookout for milkglass mugs that are decently priced. I saw many such mugs, but the price was a little too rich for my blood. That said, you will find some deals here -- it just depends on what you're looking for. Whilst walking around, I saw seasonal decorations, statues, magazines and books, tableware, random things like a basket full of starfish, and many other tchotchkes and miscellany. They have some clothing here, but I would not visit looking for clothes. Mostly, you'll find collectible things here.

One thing that it doesn't have is air-condition. However, one can find fans spread out all over the place to cool it down and make your journey inside more pleasant. The day we went to visit was hot and humid, so I would recommend visiting the store on a cool day. If you enjoy antiques of all kinds, you'll enjoy walking around this store and viewing the great variety of items they have, reasonably priced. You'll also find that some of the areas have their items on sale. I highly recommend this antique store. It has something for everyone. Items to decorate your home or business with, or to give as gifts to family or friends.

The prices vary based on vendor, and some were marked firm while some were not, so I can only assume you could possibly negotiate prices or make a bundle deal if you found enough items. Of the items I was interested in, I was VERY pleased with the prices. I ended up leaving with a 1971 Coca Cola Polar Bear that plays jazz Christmas music for $5!! I mean, come on. That's a steal. Took him home and put new batteries in and he works like a charm. The only other thing that had my interest was a Christmas cookie jar. After looking online, I realized that it was priced extremely well and fair, but I just sadly didn't have the room for it. Overall, super fun place to check out! They are right next to two other antique stores, so it's a great location to spend the afternoon shopping.

Pages has really lost a lot of the books they used to have in stock and now just seems to be a little hole in the wall to get coffee where you can sit in the semi-dark store and chat...but not with the employees, cause apparently they don't chat to customers or maybe, just me. It's all good though, I won't be going back.
