On our last vacation, we rented electric bikes for $25 an hour which wasn't too expensive. I had a hard time getting use to the bike at first and the owner was helping me figure out the controls on the bike. We rode around the main road and the little neighborhoods and then went to Caddy's on the beach. On the ride back I ended up scraping my toe and the owner and his wife gave me bandaids and stuff to clean up. We ended up talking to them for almost an hour after we turned in the bikes. They are so personable and just the sweetest. Definitely made my vacation. I highly recommend renting from them. read more

wish there was an option for no stars. Scooter broke down in the middle of the freeway on the drawbridge as it started to open. Only got to ride for one hour instead of two. 15 minutes of that hour was spent back at the shop to mess with the battery prior to breaking down. He still charged us full price for both hours. The owner of the shop didn't even want to get up out of his lounge chair to accept payment for a purchase of a bathing suit. He acted like it was such an inconvenience for him! It was even more of an inconvenience that I didn't have cash! I will never return. We also went in there a few weeks ago for some air in a tire while we were out bike riding and he was extremely rude and complained about "Why would I start my compressor up just for you?" I didn't even wanna go back to get the bathing suit bottoms but I had HAVE them! read more

So I'm writing this on the side of the rode with my broken down scooter. I was assured after my second visit to finish line scooters that my scooter is in good running standards and is safe to ride. This was far from the truth. I'm mechanically inclined enough to see my rear tire bolt was about to roll off and other parts of the scooter that had been "looked over" during my 120 dollar repair and assured it was safe. Had not been touched. At this point money is one thing but my safety is another thing that I think John at finish line scooters doesn't care about. And his 24hour service is nothing but a joke. Now I have to find a real shop so someone can be honest with me and do a job correctly. read more

This is the last place I would buy parts from, this guy is a total crook and should have his business license taken away for being schmuck. The picture below is a "brand new part" notice the marks where previous bolts have been used to hold it in place and secondly if you notice the wire crimp splice for the pick up. I really wish I would have noticed this before I left this POS store. I went back and confronted him about it and he told me he "cut the pick up off to show a customer something" and then when I called him out some more he kicked me out of the store. Also this guy charges ridiculous prices, if you have the time, wait and order off Amazon! Their customer service is far superior as well! read more

During our visit to Florida I wanted to check out some local spots by scooter. Found Finish Line who advertises they are open 24/7. That is not the case. I called to rent a scooter from John at 11am on the day after Easter on a very tourist filled area. He told me he is the only one in the office but was at a doctors appointment in Tampa and would be back in an hour. I found it odd for a 24 hour operation he was the only one working. I waited 2 1/2 hours later and I drove to the Finish Line which is 40 minutes away from where I was staying. Only to find out finish line was closed. The doors were locked with a sign saying we are open 24 hour-call me. I proceeded to call John who tells me he still at his doctors appointment and is 40 minutes away. Needless to say we did. It stick around. We were very disappointed. read more

Wow here it is, my first negative Yelp review. I generally won't bother leaving a negative report as everyone including business owners have an off day. However this is the exception, John the owner is most unscrupulous. I parked in a small plaza with a large sign that says Park Now there was parking in the front and side of the building. I went in to the Barracuda Deli to pick up a to go sandwich, I was the only one parked on the side lot by the time I got back (10 minutes) John had put a parking boot on my car and left a document protected note stating that I parked illegally in a private lot and that if I didn't pay him $55 immediately that the tow truck he already called was going to charge me an amount over $170. He stated that his lot was clearly marked private and in fact he did have one small sign (12"x20") stating unauthorized cars would be towed but I thought I was authorized since I was in the same plaza and literally the next door over, like 10' over. Plus keep in mind and please see photo his main sign for the plaza says Park Now that sign is at least 4 feet by 8 feet so which one is going to pop out at you? John wouldn't listen and just kept threatening me that once the tow truck arrived it was going to be out of his hands and it was going to cost me over $170 all the while as he was sitting on his couch watching his TV. He wouldn't take a credit card (I wonder why duh) and I gave him $60 he hobbled up "I just had knee surgery he says" I thought dang this guy makes a living doing this for him to have got this all done in ten minutes in his condition. Anyways John I hope you fully recuperate in a expedient manner and would like to suggest instead of watching TV during the day (I noticed the cross you wore around your neck) perhaps you should crack open the lessons in the bible where Jesus states you should treat people the way you want to be treated. Really if you want to limit parking just to your store the signs should say that and they should be more visible against the bright bold colors of your building. read more

I know that almost all of the reviews here are one star but my 18-year-old son and I rented scooters here for two full days and HAD A BLAST and loved the owner, John! He treated us fair (actually reduced the full day rate on day two), was a riot to work with, and even gave my son a "good talking to" of why he's too young to buy a "crotch rocket". My son and I loved John's no BS attitude and again, thought the entire experience was one of our best vacation memories. In regards to him being open 24/7, we found that he was there from 10:00 or so and if you call him and tell him when you'll be there, he will either say "Yep, I'll be here." or "I should be back in the shop or can be back by ____." He's technically not sitting there 24/7 but is usually there during normal business hours and can be there if he knows you'll be there (at least that was our experience). Again, we LOVED riding, the scooters worked perfectly and reliably (and they had some zip to them), and thought John was great!! If we ever go back to St. Pete Beach, we will DEFINITELY go back!! DO NOT BUY, RENT, OR EVEN SHOP AT THIS PLACE. The owner named John is a crook. After thinking I was parking legally for a fast 30 minute lunch I returned to my vehicle to find a parking boot on it and a sign stating tow truck is on the way. It was very obvious this is a game and a continuous revenue stream for his business. He demanded $55 to take the boot off or pay $170 to get it after being towed. He claims his "insurance company" handles these issues and it is out of his hands. He tried telling me his insurance company calls him when someone parks in his lot and walks to one of the other business in the "connected" strip mall. Get the hell out of here buddy if you think people are buying that shit!!!! No insurance company monitors cameras for any business. You sit in there and wait until someone parks and walks past your door and then slap the boot on in minutes. The worst part about this is we are locals, we live close and are often looking for fun things to do. We had no idea this place existed and maybe would have actually walked inside or stopped back another time. All John cares about is extra revenue to make up for his low revenue business. A good business owner would have accepted this as an accident which it was, and since we got back before the tow truck (which I'm very sure was never actually called ) would have just taken the boot off and laughed about it with us since by no means was the parking lot full at any time. Or, another approach for Big John maybe would have been to leave out the song and dance about the insurance company monitoring his parking lot and just show us a valid business sign and apologize that we were not supposed to park there.....and I would have handed over the 55 and accepted it. Instead I will do my research because I'm betting something is shady about this and probably stretching the law somewhere. There are Deceptive parking signs saying Park Now. This business is on an end cap of a strip mall so one would assume parking for the entire plaza is perfectly ok. Since he purposely shows an LED sign saying "Park Now". Yes there are signs on the wall that say tow away zone......but again, one would assume the entire plaza! I'm not even sure he has a sign for his business on that end....and if he does it's strategically placed in a low visible manner. What a great way to earn business....amazing business model!!! Piss off the locals by scamming them by baiting people to park in those spaces. There are hundreds of places to rent a scooter or whatever the hell else he is selling. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this business. This isn't the first review on this baiting scam either......please read the others on here and Facebook. read more

When we got back he said we were gone for three hours and that the time zone was wrong on my phone and that's why it looked like only two hours. Because the rate for two hours was 40.00 he charged us 75.00 for three hours! We went to a store nearby and asked the time and my phone was in the right time zone. DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS HERE!!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!! My wife and I brought our three children to St. Pete for a Christmas holiday. We rented bikes from John on December 23rd. He was very charismatic, as most con-artists are, and lead us to believe that he would be closing early the next day (Christmas Eve). His exact words to me in privacy, away from my family were, "if you bring the bikes back late and we are not here don't worry about it, just lock them to the telephone pole out front." We rented these bikes a little after 7pm on Wednesday Dec. 23rd. We returned to the shop on Thursday Dec. 24th at around 8:15 pm, and not only were they open but John was waiting outside for us, like my father used to when I came home from parties in high school after sneaking out of his house. Upon our arrival he proceeded to tell us that we could keep them for another day, acting like he was taking care of us. Come to find out what he meant was we had crossed over the 24-hour mark and were going to be charged for another day irregardless of our decision. (Consequently, when you rent from John, he makes NO mention of a strict 24-hour rental policy, in fact he makes NO mention of a 24-hour policy at all.) Now I can understand running a rental business as I do so myself in Myrtle Beach (another resort and tourist town) and support a family of five this way, but if I had customers who, on CHRISTMAS EVE, were a little over an hour late returning to me, I would at the very least, charge them a reduced rate. After all, Finish Line Scooters is not open on Christmas day, so it was not as if these bikes were already reserved by someone else. There entire inventory was still available. read more

My husband bought me a bike for Christmas and the owner, John, told him if for some reason I didn't like it that we could return the bike. It turned out to not be the type of bike I wanted and John changed his story and refused allow a refund for the bike. He said he doesn't take returns, exact opposite of his selling story. I was shopping for a scooter to use for transportation to work. I wanted to buy locally and support a business near my home. I stopped to look at scooters at Finish Line. The salesman lacked professional sales skills and did not seem interested in selling or promoting anything in the store. The scooters he did have were older models and over priced. I usually never write reviews because they are so opinionated BUT I will give a blow by blow of my experience with Finish Line scooters. I buy a new scooter for $2400. I take deliver and 2 days later it quits running so i push it back to my house 2 miles away and just passed by a gas station i top off the tank and it runs again. I think its just dirt in the fuel. It does it 3 more times before i drove in 200 miles. I called finish line and he could care less. He would not even drive 1 mile to take a look. Now when i start it it pours gas out of the side of the engine. He says its a loose or missing screw in the carburetor but he wants to charge me $40. I could not believe it so i decided to go look and see if the screw is missing but it is tight in the carb. So I called him and he directs me to another business to fix it. I asked will they cover the warranty and he says there is no warranty. only 30 days which when the first time i called it was only 15 days old and he would not even look at it. These scooters he sells are cheap Chinese crap. I would never recommend this place read more
