Garey continues to be an exceptional resource to keep me healthy and as pain free as I can reasonably expect (60 + years of significant activity involving impacts does take its tolls). Because of the work that Garey and I did previously I've been able to seem him on a "maintenance" schedule for the past several months. The knowledge he shared with me regarding work I need to do on my own has proven invaluable. With another procedure looming I've already booked multiple appointments and have full confidence that Garey will help me be as good as I can be. Here I go again to another physical therapist that was recommended by my Workman's comp. After going to concentra and another PT this is paradise for me. Gary is amazing! He shows you techniques that you can use to either get out if pain or bring it down. Although, some days are harder than others, he listens to your issues and helps you work through them. His office is not overpacked with people so you get that one on one attention. He really does take his time with you and makes you feel like your issues are valid. I saw Garey a couple of time at his Larchmont location in Los Angeles. He was fantastic! He really helped me, first with my foot and then with my knee. Garey was very professional, personable, and got me back on my feet. I loved that the treatment was personalized and I was meeting with one person throughout my treatment. At one point I had to switch over to another PT facility for insurance purposes and it was definitely subpar compared to Garey's service. I was meeting with different people each week and it felt like a factory. I was sad to notice that Finish Line was no longer on Larchmont when I went for a walk today. Another physical therapist recommended Finishline to me and said this is where physical therapists go when they need someone top-notch. I drive 1/2 hour from Del Mar and it is worth the extra time and effort to work with someone like Garey who really knows what they are doing. I had an elbow replacement and wanted my full range of motion back because I am very active. Garey has got the know-how and got my elbow into a full extension within a few weeks. I have had other physical therapists work on my elbow but none can come close to Garey. If you need results then go to Garey - he is simply the best! read more

GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE Gary has been very accommodating to my work schedule that is constantly changing, I'm scheduled twice a week for Physical Therapy and have been on time twice, Gary has always been understanding and has even stayed after hours, one Saturday morning I was an hour and a half late because I overslept, when I called Gary to apologize for missing my appointment to my surprise Gary said if I can be there within 1/2 hour he can still fit me in, I found out later he opened up early Saturday just for me. PROFESSIONAL CARE I have a long list of problems after multiple surgeries in the past 4 years, my first consultation with Gary we discussed all my surgeries in detail, which lasted over an hour, from the first session to my last session every exercise was explained in detail, Gary will do the exercises himself to show the proper technique, every question I had was explained in detail. In the past I've had in-home care (Physical Therapy) and was lucky to get the same therapist two sessions in a row. I've been to other physical therapists offices where the main physical therapist will meet you pull on a body part, ask you how you were doing, work with you for a few minutes then hand you off to a student or another employee to do the actual work, at FINISHLINE PHYSICAL THERAPY Gary is the only who works with me and is very attentive, I have arrived early and notice that Gary will show the same attention to others as he does with me. FRIENDLY It is my opinion Gary does not know a stranger, when you walk in to his office it is like you are walking in to Gary's home, we are both into sports and racing so we've had great conversations on those topics and more. This place is a joke. Gary complains about how poorly his business is doing during the entire treatment. Very hard to relax. He seems to be strung out on drugs. Made a future appointment then realized it conflicted with a surgical procedure appointment I made several months ago. When I tried to reschedule he threw a tantrum. Don't go here Update This guy is fighting like a mad man to save his business After my last post I have made complaints to his licensing authority and the company that referred me to him. Come to find out there have been previous reported issues with both. If you want him to ask you to touch him by all means go there. If you want to get well go somewhere else. I first tried two other places in Vista for physical therapy. Both places tested my range of motion, gave me print-outs of exercises to do at home, then sent me on my way. Impersonal, brief...I had the feeling that the people who worked there could have just been shoe salesmen. (Not that there is anything wrong with selling shoes) Then I found Garey and my situation was truly addressed. My pain is much eased! He is hands-on! Knowledgeable, caring. The most Knowledgeable, caring, & Genuine therapist I've met. I was apprehensive going to another therapist, but I am happy I did. From the first visit to current, I've received true care from an actual physical therapist. This family owned and operated office, is willing to give me the time needed to understand what and why I'm doing certain exercises. They also listen to my concerns, and with their extensive experience usually are able to adjust my exercises to reduce my pain and still speed up my healing. I feel respected, and most importantly confident about my recovery. My past injuries left me with limitations in range of motion, and lots of excuses from medical "professionals". I have hired this team to help me with these previous injuries years after my injury previous treatment had finished. In my case They have been able to increase range of motion and strength in these areas. I'm fortunate to have found this team, and if you have any doubts about your care and healing, you need to call them now. They will give you an honest review and most likely change your life too. You won't regret it. In the past: I have had too many medical injuries in my life, and I've been through 5 other physical therapy locations in the Oceanside area. I've needed hand therapy for tendon grafts, spine recovery, and ACL replacement. These other places made me feel like a number being cycled through a cookie cutter process in order to build their income revenue. I'd ice, sit on a bike, heat, stretch and then electric shock stimulation, and out the door. It took an hour but I'd only get a couple minutes with a person, the rest of the time I'd stare at a timer. I never could ask questions, so I had no answers, and usually found out I was being guided by an assistant, not the therapist I was paying for. Worst of all I kept being told about permanent limitations I'd have to live with. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would! I'm a firefighter with the city of San Diego and I got injured on the job due to the amount of weight we have to carry and caliber we perform at. This man has been very patient with my schedule, and my work injury. He's agreed to work with my crazy schedule and has been consistent in his own performance to get me back to where I need to be. I had a knee injury to where it hurt every morning and hurt to walk. I had to where knee sleeves. Now no more pain, and im in better position to perform my job at my previous calibur. I would recommend him to anyone especially if they are serious about getting better. I was looking for a physical therapist somewhat close to where I live that was also in-network with my insurance provider. Finishline was pretty much the only choice. I read the reviews, and you should too, but decided to give them a try anyway. The first three visits were fine. I found Garey to be quirky but also caring and knowledgeable. And then the crazy showed up. I thought I had an appointment this morning and arrived accordingly. I sat down in the waiting area, and after a few minutes Garey came forward and very aggressively told me I didn't have an appointment today, it was tomorrow. In my experience someone with good people skills might have said something like, "I am so sorry. I think there has been a miscommunication, we have you down for tomorrow. Can you come back then?" But that's not him. With quite a bit of aggression in his posture and words, he verbally attacked me, trying to convince me that the mistake had to have been mine. For some reason that was more important to him than my business. It started to feel crazy. I tried to explain to him why I thought my appointment was today, but after a few exchanges, he turned his back on me and walked away with no indication of what was next. As he walked away I laughed and said, "Now I understand the Yelp reviews." It's interesting. During my very first visit I had asked him about some of those negative reviews and he responded to them in a reasonable way. I figured I would give him a chance, this wasn't going to be lifetime commitment, and I would judge for myself. Since quite a few people have left negative reviews, let me speak to those other reviews specifically: *Is he aggressive? Yes. *Is he quirky? Yes, but I find off-center people engaging. *Is he good at what he does? To the extent I experienced it I'd say, "yes." *Is the place dirty? Yes and no. I don't think the place is dirty like there's cat poop everywhere, but his offices are certainly very run down. He works out of an old bungalow and clearly the place has not been maintained. Linoleum is peeling, there are scuff marks on the walls and water stains on the ceiling. I can see how others would find his place "dirty." If you are looking for shiny, Finishline is not the right choice for you. A few hours after I got home, I got a call from Early, his assistant, who told me that Garey wasn't comfortable working with me moving forward. So, I guess he fired me. If you need one more sign of the nuttiness, I was told by Early that he had already contacted Yelp to warn them that I would be writing a negative review. I came to him to be healed after major spine surgery. I certainly didn't come for drama. If you choose to go see him, consider my experience and those of quite a few others. Wanted to chime in with a positive review. Checked out the practice, was willing to overlook the frayed cosmetics of the place because I was impressed with Garey when we met and encouraged by his confidence in being able to help me. I immediately set wheels in motion to arrange Worker's Comp services with Finishline. The next week, my provider informed me that Finishline had opted out of their network since I met and spoke with them a few days earlier. I left both phone messages for Garey and emailed him hoping we might find a workaround. No response. I contacted him again asking for help finding an alternative p.t. No response. Strange business practices, in my opinion, and not reflective of a genuinely caring health care provider. read more

I had an amazing experience that led to a full recovery. I had a major injury to my elbow and Gareys hard work, positive attitude, and hands on approach was the reason I made such a quick and strong recovery. I went and on to earn the Physical fitness award in my Law Enforcement Academy and it's majorly in part due to Garey. Communicated with him by phone five times (always my call) and he told me he would determine my insurance coverage. He never apologized and just continued to tell me he would find out and return my call, though never did. He's too busy for me. I have no time to wait for him after having already waited two weeks. Because Garey seemed great on the phone, I ignored other negative yelp reviews and went to Finishline, much to my chagrin. I called Garey to help me recover from ACL & meniscus surgery for which--because I'd been in a brace unable to move for weeks--I badly needed physical therapy 3xs a week and to start it immediately. Garey said he might be able to fit me in on a Friday for my initial consultation, but that he would be gone the following week because he was in an auto race--his first vacation in 17 years. I hesitated because I didn't want to start Physical Therapy with someone and then have a full week of no PT, but Garey convinced me he was the post-surgery expert, he would give me exercises to do in his absence, and that we would meet as soon as he returned from the auto race. I agreed. Initial consultation: Garey spent half his time with me and half with another patient, which I was OK with because Garey seemed great and knowledgeable and fun, even if his focus was split. Garey introduced me to his dog, told me stories of Hollywood actors he'd worked on, and showed me some of his racing gear--he seemed very friendly and concerned with me getting my knee healed up. We agreed to meet first thing a week from Monday. Although I did my exercises faithfully, my knee did not progress well the week Garey was on vacation, so I was eager to get back into PT. I hit some traffic and arrived at my Monday appointment 8 minutes late: at 8:38am. From the parking lot I could hear Garey (if you've talked to him you know he has a voice that carries like few others) apologizing to someone on the phone through his open office window. When I checked in at the front desk, his receptionist said I was too late and that Garey wouldn't see me. (I could still clearly hear Garey on the phone apologizing and having a fairly intense conversation.) I told the receptionist there's over 20 minutes left in my appointment, I'm desperate for PT, I've been waiting over a week specifically for Garey and this appointment, and Garey can certainly honor what's left of our appointment. The receptionist said that there was a woman arriving at 9am for her initial appointment and Garey would need to focus on her 100% and so couldn't see me now. WTF? First of all, during my initial appointment, Garey saw me AND another patient simultaneously, so why couldn't he do the same if my appointment ran over? But more importantly, why was the majority of my SCHEDULED appointment time being thrown away and the excuse of someone else arriving in the NEXT appointment slot being used to deny me PT I'd been expecting for well over a week?! Sadly, it seemed Garey was on a call so important that he decided to ditch me and my medical needs. Which goes to show you, as friendly as the guy seems, he'll throw you to wolves in an unprofessional manner should he become overwhelmed. Shame on you, Garey. I called Garey and left a message saying I felt taken advantage of, and to please call me so we could work this out, because I felt we'd made a good connection during my initial visit. He never returned my call, and I never heard from Garey again. I do NOT recommend Finishline Physical Therapy and suggest somewhere that has more professional facilities and behavior, like Larchmont Physical Therapy. read more

I've been going to Garey for a little over 2 months. I'm super happy to report that my final appointment with him is next week! Being a runner, I was suffering from plantar fasciitis and posterior tibial tendonitis in my left foot for over a year. I went to see two different podiatrists, who both prescribed orthotics and a whole slew of other things I had to buy out-of-pocket (night splints, etc) which did nothing. Frustrated, I searched Yelp for physical therapists and found Garey. On my very first appointment, within 30 seconds of me taking my shoes off, he diagnosed the problem. My arch had almost completely collapsed because my feet were pronating - I stand, walk, and run incorrectly and it had been doing damage to my feet. Garey not only worked with me doing sports massage and applying ice / electrical stimulation at every appointment, but also taught me how to build my arch back up on my own time. He gave me a sheet of exercises to do every day, and added on to them as I got stronger. More importantly, he showed me how to correct my stance and keep it that way, whether I'm walking down the hall or going for a 3-mile run. As I got close to my original strength, we would go outside the office and go through some drills so that he could watch my running stance and make sure I was running in a way that wouldn't bring the problem back. I wouldn't have believed it could happen this quickly, but my arch is completely rebuilt and my left foot is as strong as my right again. I went on a 2.5 mile run the other day with no pain. I will say that Garey is a character and has a strong personality, but he's a good guy and I love his black lab Lily that is there sometimes. Thank you Garey!! read more

Super down to earth couple and really take care of you! Been to two different agencies during this workers comp injury process & these guys are by far the best ive come in contact with. While other agencies put you through "the motions" and go through basic walkthroughs of how you should get better Gary really pushes you to make sure you dont harm yourself, but rehab your body quickly and efficiently. Definitely not easy by any means, but with their expertise and you pushing yourself, these two are by far the best here in San Diego County. read more

I have been seeing Garey on and off for more than 4 years now. First time I saw him, it was for a second opinion because the doctor I saw first told me he could give me cortisone and/or operate me. Garey fixed my shoulder with patience and incredible knowledge. When I injured my OTHER shoulder and when I pinched a nerve on my lower back, I went back to him; both with extraordinary results. Recently, I woke up at 130am with a back pain that prevented me to breath. I was taken to the ER immediately. The ran tests, X-Rays and prescribed me 3 different pain killers, all of which have the side effect of making one drowsy. The day after I called Garey explained my problem and he told me ON THE PHONE what my problem was. And when I showed up at his office, he fixed me up and he was right. His knowledge, his professional attitude and his sense of humor are absolutely fantastic. If you are a sports fan, that would be a plus as he follows ALL sports! HIGHLY recommended! read more

Great experience here. I moved to LA a couple of months ago and found Finishline on Yelp. Thanks again, Yelp. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. Garey is the owner and is a great guy. He is really motivated to get his patients feeling better and is a genuinely nice person. I came here with a serious back injury from a couple of years ago and although I may never fully recover, the treatment I get here eases the pain. In the past I have been to PT places that are like factories and their patients are just a number but that is not how things are here. Garey and Kim are really good people and can accommodate my schedule. The place is called Finishline because Garey loves car racing in his spare time. He has some really good stories on the topic. I suffered a severe ankle sprain and fracture. As well as damage to ligaments in my knee. From the beginning I was terrified. Past experiences left me with poor expectations from physical therapists. From poor attitude, lack of attention, visits being cut short and not putting in efforts to make sure I was comfortable during my sessions. After my initial visit. I looked up reviews from when Garey was in L.A. He has been around for several years and people only have good things to say about him. At Finish Line, Garey was extremely understanding and compassionate. His knowledge put me at ease almost instantly. I was still a little apprehensive. But, the second he started to gently manipulate ligaments and muscles. I was sure things would be different with him. I was right. I am 13 of 24 visits in and my mobility and range of motion has vastly improved. Though I'm not yet 100%. I am on my way. I am not as young as I once was. That's for sure. And he pushes me as hard as I need, to improve more and more each time. I was worried about a visit where I could not find a babysitter for my 3 yr. old. I called to cancel, and he didn't hesitate when he said, "bring him in". I was relieved with how flexible and considerate Garey and his wife are. You have restored my faith in physical therapy. Garey and his staff are the best in town! I wouldn't trust anyone else to help me rehab my injuries. He understands the workouts and load that CrossFit demands for me. You will not find a better PT in this town that can help you get back to your normal life or WODs. I say this with complete confidence that comes from working with Garey for 7 months. Let's start from the beginning - I came to Garey in January 2015 after a CrossFit injury in which I dislocated my knee. From Day 1, Garey was super attentive, helpful, patient, encouraging and full of energy! Every time I left his office, I felt more alive, rejuvenated and confident I would get back to my normal activities with his help and my efforts at the gym, too. Every session, Garey was interested in my progress as well as any setbacks and answered every question I had. Whenever I was afraid to try something new on my own, he would set up his gym in the back room of his practice and would walk me through the exercises. He watched my form, fixed my form, and challenged me to go heavier, higher, faster without ever leaving my side. He also taught me to pay close attention to my form in order to avoid any future injuries He provided exercises to do on my own and IF YOU DO THEM, you will heal much faster than you think. As long as you put in your effort and hard work towards getting better, Garey will for far and beyond his call of duty. Fast Forward to July 2015 - After a few months of going back to the grind with CrossFit and being able to do all of the WODs - I injured myself again. This time I injured my rotator cuff in an attempt to do a Bar Muscle Up as part of my training for a competition. The pain was so bad I couldn't lift my arm above my head and hardly slept at night. As much as I wanted to ignore this injury and try to work through it for competition-sake, I knew it was a serious matter and contacted Garey. Without hesitation, Garey checked out my shoulder and knew immediately where the problem was but most importantly how to fix it. I had only worked with Garey for 2 weeks and was able to compete! not only was able to do multiple WODs with BB Thrusters and Push Presses at 65lbs with no pain - I won the 1st place in my Scaled division! None of this would have ever been possible without the help from Garey. Throughout my sessions with him, he has helped me not only gain back my strength and mobility but also my confidence.
