I've been coming here for a long time. This is one of the best restaurants in Wichita. Truly wonderful menu that changes often to keep things fresh. Visiting from Arizona and decided to come for brunch with my husband after seeing the Yelp reviews. We decided to sit at the bar. Love the atmosphere and way they took an existing gas station converting it to something unique. Jon, our bartender was fantastic and made awesome recommendations on the menu. We started with two Annabelle Mango cocktails. Highly recommend if you like a spicy, sweet version of a margarita. For meals we ordered the Calabrian Chili Chicken Panino and the Hangover Fried Rice. The sandwich was BIG and easily shared. It's spicy, the pesto is perfect, bread delicious and chicken cooked perfectly. We LOVE Kimchi fried rice and this just became our new favorite!!! This restaurant is a converted old full-service gas station so basically the seating area is the two bases with the car were and in the front room where you would've walked in to pay the cashier, the decor has been transformed very nicely. Service was very nice and fast the food was excellent. The funny thing is is the wife and I had exactly the same thing. The salad in a Italian sub for lunch. The salad portion was a very nice if not slightly larger than expected, and the half of the sub was nicely prepared very nice bread that was slightly grilled on the exterior like a Panini and absolute ton of multiple meats and cheeses with a very pleasant Italian dressing. We finally were able to give FioRito a try. The restaurant is small so seating is limited (although I read they will be relocating this next year to a bigger location.) Reservations are a must. We started with the sliced sourdough and a side of the marinated olives. We also ordered a kids spaghetti, fettuccine alfredo with mushrooms, a meatball on the side and eggplant parmesan. We loved the bread, olives, eggplant parmesan and the meatball. (The fettuccine alfredo seemed a little dry.) Overall we really enjoyed our meal. We visited on a Friday evening with a reservation, which I would certainly recommend. We had attempted to dine here previously without one and were unable to be seated, which was mildly inconvenient, though entirely understandable given the demand. We began with the house sourdough, and it was well worth ordering. The crust, in particular, was excellent, with the kind of texture and character that makes a simple bread course feel memorable. The house salad was also a pleasant surprise. It was not the style of salad I typically gravitate toward, but the flavors were well balanced and genuinely enjoyable. For her entrée, my wife ordered the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo and was very pleased with it overall. Her only preference would have been grilled chicken rather than crispy chicken, though that is more a matter of personal taste than a criticism. I tried a bite myself and actually preferred the crispy preparation, so it really comes down to individual preference. I ordered the Chicken Parmesan and was impressed. The dish was satisfying and well executed, though I found the sauce on the herbed butter spaghetti to be a bit too salty for my palate. With a touch more red sauce in place of some of that saltiness, this would have easily been a five-star dish for me rather than four. Myself and a friend met here for dinner when they reopened at 4:30p. Customer service was really good. Our server was attentive and friendly. The food was really good. For an appetizer we had the potato poppers, which is essentially fried pasta served with herb ranch. I give it an 8/10. I had chicken parm. The sauce was delicious, the chicken had a nice crunch and it was a decently sized piece of chicken and a nice amount of sauce and noodles. 8/10. My friend had the vegan mushroom spaghetti. She enjoyed her dish. The Emerald Island drink was really good! When it was time to get our checks and box our food up, I asked for a small cup to put some of the leftover herb ranch I had left in it. The waiter then asked if I wanted two cups of sauce. I initially told him I just need a little cup to put the sauce I already had in. Then I just agreed to the extra sauce that was offered. It wasn't until he brought the checks out that he mentioned it was an extra cost. $1 for the herb ranch and $2 for the red sauce. Our checks were already on the table at this point. He then mentioned that he would need to add the cost of the sauce on. A simple "hey just to let you know it's going to be extra for the sauce, do you still want it?," would have been nice. After he is paid. He then brings out a small EMPTY cup which is what I asked for in the first place! I would have said no to him to giving me a fresh new cup of sauce had I know he was going to bring an empty cup. Smh. Overall rating is a 7/10. However, I'd go back and try another dish. The spaghetti and meatballs were "the best I've ever had." according to my friend who dined with me. Is it the best Italian food I have ever eaten, no, but it is certainly the best in Wichita. Service: 4/5 The waiter was attentive and knowledgeable but my drink and refills took a markedly long time to make it to our table. We had to ask for our beverages and check in on refills several times before they actually arrived. Ambiance: 3/5 It has a cool location but the decorations don't take full advantage of the layout and they are also trying for cottage core or provincial but not quite meeting either. The best part of the ambiance was the music. It was a great volume but the lack of good acoustics made it hard to hear each other. Small location, under staffed the night we went. Waiter was overly chatty, somewhat entertaining, not at all a professional server. Goofy though. Spilled an entire glass of water on our table. Tons of staff in the kitchen, food is homemade and hot. Presentation was a bit off though, food plopped on a plate. They had this pimento cheese spread we ordered with our bread- truly unique and delicious- highlight of the meal. I ordered a rib meal, with polenta, and a slaw. I was curious of this item, then realized it was a real stretch to be on an Italian menu. Ribs had been boiled, the flash grilled, mushy ribs. The polenta was a bone marrow polenta, sounded unique and tasty - in reality, bland and greasy. The slaw was purple cabbage with some vinegar and sugar? First - Group of 9. Nobody can make a decision these days; so we did! Fio Rito it was. Place was packed, but the reservation helped greatly. First the bread appetizer and different types of toppings. Not bad, but I felt the menu needed more to choose from for 'starters'. Followed by their version of an Old Fashion - my new favorite drink since 2021. Theirs were called "Smoky Bandit" of something like that with hints of black walnut infused something, but it had bullet and the cherry so I thought I'd survive. After two, I was just fine! Bar service was pretty good, with lots to choose from. I had the Chicken Parmesan, something I seldom order, the wife had Lasagna, a friend had Shrimp Scampi. These items are staples at an Italian restaurant, so we thought it would be as good as Carnitas at a Mexican joint, if they know what they're doing. All of them were exceptional, unique in presentation and preparation. The only complaint - it was so loud we were all yelling our communications. Someday buy some sound baffle ceiling mounts. It will help greatly. It honestly kind of took away from the meal and atmosphere. In general, servers and staff were well versed on how to do it and performed very well. We hope to be back again soon! Proud of the local Rickard brothers for putting together an awesome dining spot. Competition is fierce in Wichita, but they seem to have it covered well. Interesting brunch menu. Cinnamon focaccia bread was magical. Hangover fried rice with sunny side egg was great. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the house cured bacon on the basic breakfast. The food was overpriced. I ordered the chicken Alfredo thinking you can't possibly mess this up. The pasta was just okay and there was like ten skittle sized pieces of chicken in the pasta, could've made that at home. The only thing I really enjoyed was the sourdough bread with the sweet spicy sauce. Service was okay, but the hostess was a bit snippy about making reservations?? We reserved a spot for the Valentine's Day tasting menu, and once again, FioRito did not disappoint. It remains one of our favorite spots in all of Wichita. As my wife is pregnant, we truly appreciated the thoughtful effort they put into crafting delicious mocktails. The lamb meatballs and butter lettuce salad were a fantastic way to begin the meal. My strip loin was incredibly tender, perfectly seasoned, and paired wonderfully with a mushroom ravioli and a smooth parsnip-potato puree. My wife opted for the prawn angel hair pasta and was absolutely delighted by the sundried tomato butter that enriched every bite. For dessert, we indulged in another treat that exceeded our expectations. We will always return to FioRito--it's a guaranteed winner every time. The food and service were amazing!! We were visiting from Seattle...went back 3 days in a row. They have the most delicious (and rather healthy) vegan options! We enjoyed the Rigatoni Alla Vodka, the Fettuccine & Pistachio Pesto, and the Eggplant "Parmesan" and the Harvest Hash for brunch. They also brought the most delicious lemon dessert for us. So very tasty. The seasoning and mixture of flavors was first rate! The Brussels sprouts appetizer is delectable. The bartender makes amazing drinks! It is a small and cozy restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. We tried both and were very comfortable. I can think of no recommendations for improvement. I love good food. I'm so happy I finally got to try this place on Tuesday night. This is a true gem of Kansas! It's nice on the inside, but casual enough to be comfortable. The menu we had is different than those posted, so I'm sorry I didn't take a shot of it, but we had the lamb rigatoni and the Calabrian fried chicken bowl. (We had two cocktails off the happy hour menu, the lavender ginger drink was really good). My girlfriend enjoyed the chicken dish better while I liked the lamb dish better, but having tasted both let me say they were each EXCELLENT. Everything is made in house, the pasta is perfect, and the flavors were fantastic! After the first two bites I literally said out loud "what am I eating? How is this so good?" We arrive at 5:25 and by the time the server got to us and we explained that the website stated 4:30-6, he said, well it's 4:30-5:30 and our website takes a while to update. Was not willing to honor happy hour prices. Food was good but portions compared to price made it not worth the $. Very slow lunch as there was only 3 tables...so disappointed .. first time I have eaten in a pasta centered restaurant and served overcooked pasta..Both my raditorre and my wife's spaghetti was way over...Salad had promise but dressing was so heavy handed it was overbearing, The chicken parm was awful, overcooked pasta with what tasted like Popeyes chicken nuggets, in a unconstructed sauce that lacked depth and balance, tasted more like soup. For our girls trip we decided to treat ourselves to a beautiful night out, while having to wait a while after our reservation it was extremely made up for by the presence of our server Donna. She was the absolute best part about our evening. The chef had also come out and apologized for any inconveniences. There were several of us that made a reservation for 4:30 pm. We got there in time and it was a small but very quaint restaurant. It was small, but cozy. Some of the staff greeted us when we went in. However after that, the staff was kind of impersonal/distant. They never asked any of us if we had ever been there before. None of us had and it was an opportunity for them to recommend something to us. We knew they were a Beard James contender, but other than that, the service was just ok. The food is not cheap either. But we were there to celebrate a birthday. We had heard about it from just a few people and wanted to go. The food came and it was delicious. I had the lasagna and it was absolutely delicious...the way it was created was amazing. We had some sides, brussel sprouts and french fried...absolutely delicious! It was a new style of Italian food but done in a very unique way. So usually with Italian food, in my experience, you have bread served. However, at FioRito, you have to purchase it. The bread was good and came with a creamy butter. It was not bread rolls but rather slicd bread. I had wine, but no recommendations, just was handed the wine list. I had the house Red and it was ok. I think getting a James Beard should also require excellent service, recommendations and maybe a sincere greeting and welcoming to the new restaurant. They are a new restaurant and not really located in a swanky area, but once inside, it was pretty nice. think the staff needs to be more friendly and helpful. Unfortunately my second visit will be my last more than likely. I made a reservation asking for a specific table, which I called a few hours before to confirm, but upon arrival that table was taken and we were seated at a different one. Once that table became available we asked to move to it and it was an awkward, long winded yes that made us feel like we weren't welcome. That feeling remained throughout the meal. We ordered the bread and asked for focaccia instead of sourdough. When it arrived it was sourdough and I had to wait for the waitress to return to be told they ran out of focaccia two tables before us and someone else (the guy with the awkward yes to moving tables) was supposed to tell us. He didn't. She said she would remove the bread from the ticket and didn't, at the end of the meal we had to wait for her to return again to have the bread removed. I wanted the holiday tasting meal but my guest did not. We were told the whole table had to order the tasting menu and that was a problem. The only reason was so that the person who didn't order it didn't have to wait for the other to finish? We assured them that did not matter to us. The tasting menu was a disappointment. The cheese soup was super flavorful but did not come with the focaccia as mentioned on the menu. The lamb ragu with gnocchi was inedible, it was SO salty and almost tasted old. The biggest disappointment was the third course, the aged steak and potatoe galettes. I opted to add the optional truffle, $15 extra, where it is shaved on the dish table side by the chef. The dish sat in front of me getting cold for 10 minutes as the waitress kept saying the chef would be out. In the end, the chef never came and the waitress added the truffle. Again remained the feeling of not being wanted there. The desert was okay but there were chunks of something in the cream that were an unpleasant texture and we couldn't get a straight answer as to what the chunks were. Overall, I was so disappointed and kind of hurt after this visit. I was SO excited to try truffle for the first time and to be honest the sauce was so powerful I'm not sure the truffle even added anything to the dish. We decided to try this place because it had tons of Gluten Free and Vegetarian options. The place is on a busy intersection of Douglas and Hillside, so I can imagine the outdoor seating is loud. We were inside of an old remodeled gas station, and it doesn't have that feeling of elevated dining. Tables are small, chairs are uncomfortable. Our server was meh and didn't seem like she wanted to be there. I asked several questions about GF/Vegan/etc and the responses didn't instill that confidence you want if you have food allergies. After those negatives, it is still a place I would go back to, because the food was good, and had lots of GF friendly options, and nobody had any gluten reaction. As we got there before 6pm, we had happy hour drinks and app. The house red wine (blend) was quite good, no idea what it was. The Falafel and Hummus were amazing. For mains we both got a gluten free pasta with GF penne. It says their pasta is made in house, but I'm not sure the GF is. It seemed like a standard Barilla Penne, which is fine. The pastas had nice flavors, but not sure I would get either of them next time as there are other dishes we would like to try. Have been to Fio Rito four times and it is always outstanding. Live in Dallas but have friends in Wichita and we always go to fio when we visit. The pasta is my favorite but everything on the menu is outstanding. We had brunch this past weekend and it was marvelous. The carbonara was divine! Our group split the hangover cure fried rice and it was superb. The prices are very reasonable and the service is excellent . 10/10 and will always visit when we are in town. It's the kind of place that I would be a regular at if I lived here- that is for sure! read more
