The process of scheduling, arriving for the appointment, and the appointment itself went so smoothly! Dr. Bernhardt provided detailed nutritional/diet information around helping my chonky cat lose some weight, insight and information on a dental exam for each of my cats & recommendations for preventative flea medication. I don't make reviews very often on Yelp but I am frustrated enough with my experience here that i am. My fiancé accidentally told me to take our two cats to the wrong vet and ended up coming here; meaning to go to Tacoma Cat Hospital. We just decided to continue the visits here since they began their visits here and they have their records. Bad decision First couple visits were fine as our two cats had flees so no major check in. Then our kitten needed to get spayed and one other procedure and this is where the frustration began. They made us wait weeks after getting some shots to get her surgery done, which I understood. But then finally the night before her surgery, they called and said we have to postpone the surgery for another couple weeks because they didn't have the right supplies for the procedure. Are you serious??? You have had weeks to plan for this and you're just giving me the heads up now after I've taken time off of work so I could bring my cat in. I brushed it off and just scheduled another appointment weeks out AGAIN. Finally my cat was able to have her surgery and it went well. They had us come back for a check up two weeks later to get her stitches out and check on her. Ok normal. So we brought her in and when they handed her back.... she still had the stitches in? The vet explained that she will bite them off, if in a week they aren't bitten off to bring her back in but he assured us that is RARELY the case and they almost always bite them off. Well a week later and my cat didn't bite them off. So we had to go back there AGAIN to have them remove it. (Not only that but it was the most expensive procedure ever! I've always had cats growing up and got the same procedure done on our other cat a year ago and only paid $380 but at this place we paid $983... I couldn't believe how expensive it came out to be) I have honestly never had to go to a vet SO many times. So if you want to spend half of your life at the vet, this is your place. At this point we have been to this vet approximately 20 times in 3 months between my two cats and never brought them in a cat carrier. No one said anything about it or hinted at it. Our cats HATE carriers so we prefer to just let them sit on our laps. They are very well behaved travelers. On our last visit, the lady who came out to grab my cat, she made it the BIGGEST deal we didn't have a cat carrier and was honestly very passive aggressive. We are fine with putting them in carriers if required but why was it just now getting mentioned to us and not only that but given a bunch of attitude for it?? To sum it up, this place is way over priced, requires way too many visits, and the staff isn't very friendly. I will say the actual vet doctors were friendly over the phone so I have to at least give them credit, that's why I gave them two stars instead of one. read more

So far I can't complain. I have been here once for my newly adopted cats wellness exam. Staff was friendly and accommodating, and the vet and staff who helped hold my baby were very loving toward the animals. It's clear they enjoy working here and adore their furry clients. Dr. Eugio even waived the wellness exam and clipping my cats nails as a thank you for adopting a rescue cat :) My only suggestion is update/ remodel/ redecorate the inside, as the rooms seem really cold and unwelcoming. read more

First i would like to say that i have only been to this vet twice but those visits changed my whole life. my ferret had a mass that was rapidly taking over his body fat, and the most humane decision was to put him down because of the condition he was in. throughout the process they were so sympathetic, understanding, and caring while at the same time being able to communicate with me the devastating facts of the situation. No judgement and no pressure on my decision whatsoever. There was a slight miscommunication issue but i can get over that because of all of the good that they have done. when i received my ferrets ashes, (i decided on cremation) i also received an envelope. inside the envelope was a handwritten letter, extremely touching by the way, and a handmade notecard with my ferrets paw prints and his name. when i opened this envelope, my heart immediately melted and i burst into tears. it has been an emotional ride to lose a loved one, and i am extremely grateful for the love and care that this veterinary hospital has put forth into this ride. the moment you meet a doctor you can immediately feel that they love what they do, and they love everyone and every pet who walks through their doors. We had to cut our vacation short this last week and rush home as our twelve year old mix "Bella" had taken a nose-dive over night. We honestly didn't think she was going to make it home. On our way (5.5 hours away might I add), I called my dog's vet she had been to most of her life, sobbing. They had recently done a lot of tests on her, had made a lot of money off us, and all I was asking them to do for my dog was end her suffering. They told me they "didn't have any availability" that day (this was at 9am). I promptly hung up on them and called my mom to see what she thought we should do as I wasn't thinking clearly. She told me she would call me right back. She did, and she told me Dr. Eugenio (her vet) would be AT OUR HOME at 4pm to put Bella to sleep. This is exactly what I had always hoped for when the day came as my precious girl was terrified of the vet and I didn't want that to be her last memory. He and Cody showed up right on time and began everything with a hug. They were so sensitive to this whole situation and Dr. Eugenio took his time explaining everything that was going to happen. He asked about Bella's condition, pet her and talked softly to her. He and Cody were so gentle with Bella and took extra care of her after she peacefully passed. They gave us as much time as we needed with her after she was gone, answered all our questions, then they respectfully took her on a stretcher to the car and covered her with a blanket. Dr. Eugenio happened to be in my store that Sunday (I work in a grocery store) and he made it a point to approach me to see how I was doing and give me another hug. You do not get that from someone who doesn't genuinely care. If I could say anything about everyone who works at Fircrest vet, it would be that they make you and your pet feel like family. They are all so kind and loving and treat your beloved family members like their own. If we ever adopt another fur baby, we will always take them to Fircrest for their care. I came today with my cat, I didn't have appointment, but I had a emergency with my cat. He was literally really really bad. He wasn't available to eat, drink and go to the bathroom. He wasn't available to open his mouth, so that way he didn't breath good. But this doctor said that he's not gonna take him. I asked him just to look at him like for a minute but he didn't. He just left my cat to die. How is the doctor can just leave animal to die??? It's really unprofessional. If you want to get your animal alive just go the other hospital. read more

Never, never, never take your dog to be euthanized to this place! There was nothing peaceful about it! My dog was traumatized to be there in the first place and they took her into another room away from us for about 10 min to check her out and to put a catheter in for injections. When she came back they gave her a tranquilizer and then a flush then the shot an then a flush. It was horable beyond words!!! read more

I used them for a few years. Recently I helped my mom ship pets to the EU. One of their vets did the paper work. She had a few questions and called the APHIS office to clarify. Everything went as planned and the pets made it safely. Same situation, different vet. He was too arrogant to admit he didn't have the answer and call the APHIS office to clarify. Instead he offered to euthanize my cat. Some POS. Yeah, you really care about the animals. Just kill 'em if you can't make a simple phone call and get the right answer. And yes, it is that simple. Dr. Eugenio is an amazing doctor and I work for doctors. I have been a large animal vet assistant for years now, so my standards are very high. Dr. Eugenio was recommended to me by one of his former employees for a second opinion when my guinea pig fractured her leg. Every other vet that examined her told me the same story, amputate or euthanasia. Dr. Eugenio splinted the leg with his innovation and she healed. My animals will go no where else. He is the best exotics vet I've ever known. I've owned over a dozen guinea pigs and have moved all over the country seeing different exotics vets. We took our senior cat to a new appointment at Fircrest Vet Hospital and saw Dr. Eugenio. His staff was very patient and welcoming as they met us in our car during the pandemic to do paperwork and hand over our kitty in his carrier. Dr. Eugenio came out in person to meet us in our car at the end of the visit to cover all of the details in person, which was very impressive, as that had not happened at our prior vet. Wow! Dr Eugenio and the whole office staff are wonderful with animals. My dog was so scared but they were so kind to her she relaxed. He is thorough and explains what he is doing but doesn't push treatments and lets you know up front the cost of everything. He has a great bedside manner and will be the only doctor for my dogs. Everything was explained to me and I was given choices as to which tests would be most helpful at the moment. Zeus doesn't like going to the vet but he was ok here. This review is long overdue. I have taken my pets to Fircrest Veterinary Hospital for more than 10 years. My golden retriever Jake was always received warmly by the staff and Dr. Eugenio. At about 9 1/2 years old, Jake began to walk slowly and was showing signs of severe pain. I took him to Dr. Eugenio who went above and beyond to try to diagnose and treat Jake's pain. Treatment worked for a period of time but it eventually worsened to the point where Jake could no longer easily stand to relieve himself. We made the difficult decision to put him down. When we took Jake in for his final visit, Dr. Eugenio was professional and extremely empathetic to our sadness in a situation that he must experience on a regular basis. He really cared about my dog and my family's wellbeing. He has my business and my recommendation for as long as he is practicing. read more

It is hard to choose a vet for your babies, but look no further than this place. The fact that our Coco is a rescue bulldog makes it so challenging to find an experienced vet to put our trust in. The whole staff is very warm and friendly. Dr. Tobiassen is calm and sweet natured. She is also extremely knowledgable and thorough. We left feeling the most confident with our bully than we have ever felt before. Dr Eugenio and the Fircrest Vet staff are the absolute BEST! We have taken all our dogs there for many years now and wouldn't go anywhere else. Dr E is, hands down, the most knowledgeable, caring and compassionate vet we have ever been to. He takes whatever amount of time is needed to be sure his pet parents understand the health of his patients and details all options if any treatment is needed. I really appreciate that he cares enough to want to be sure no one goes away without all questions answered, even if it means a slightly longer wait is involved. While he really knows his stuff, he is not arrogant, so he admits when he needs to consult other vets and occasionally must refer his patients to a specialist. He is the first vet in a long line of vets that were consulted who got one of our dog's allergies under control. Thanks to him, our little Zoe lives a much more comfortable life with fewer medications. Two of our five dogs have, sadly, passed in the last 3 years, but due to the excellent care they received from us and Dr E, they lived a wonderful 16 years...and they were larger dogs. To my husband and I, our dogs are our four-legged fur kids and they mean the world to us. We trust Dr E and Fircrest Vet immensely, and literally, with their lives. I know that as long as he is practicing veterinary medicine, we will happily bring our pets to him. In fact, I wish I could find a "Doctor Eugenio" people doctor. Fircrest Vet posted about our lost dog and when we responded made us jump through hoops for hours just to not get her back that day. The next day which was Monday I called the office to see if there was any information they could give me about the client of theirs who had our dog, they said no so I asked if I brought the police there would I be able to get information and the girl said she didn't know and I said ok thank and good bye! The office manager Angela Hager proceeded to comment of Facebook that I needed to stop calling her office and harassing her staff, mind you I only called one time. She accused me of being belligerent, which I don't know about anyone else but if your dog is missing for two weeks and you finally find them you want them back in that moment! So I wouldn't call it belligerent I would say I was being diligent in my efforts to obtain our pup. read more

I am new to Fircrest Veterinary Hospital. I was looking for a reputable and compassionate vet to take my guinea pig to as he has had some intense health problems as a baby (he is now 2). Recently my piggie has been having some strange colored pee but seems otherwise healthy. But I wanted to take him in for a check-up in case there was something going on. I searched on yelp and found excellent reviews for this vet hospital and for Dr. Eugenio. I scheduled my guinea pig for his first appointment --- and brought along his past medical records to give a full history of my little pig :) I met with some of the staff first and they were so incredibly nice. I had been to other vet hospitals where the staff was a bit rude or just not overly friendly. This was not the case at Fircrest, the staff was very nice and seemed genuinely interested in my piggie and gave him a lot of pets and love. Dr Eugenio came in and he was so nice. Dr. E has a wonderful presence about him -- he is very kind and knowledgeable. He and a tech (I believe her name is Heather) cut my pigs nails and looked for any parasites -- they also told me how I can look for parasites on him at home. I scheduled appointment for further testing.. I am so happy that I found this place! I could not have found a better vet and I also found out that not only does he see exotics.. but dogs (maybe even cats) too! Although it's a bit of a drive for me, I will definitely be bringing my dog to Dr. E too. read more

Dr. Eugenio and Dr. Morency are THE BEST! Dr.Morency and the team were with us when we had to put our 13 year old lab to sleep and they were so amazingly compassionate given this was the closest we will ever have to a child. When we finally welcomed a new puppy into our home Dr. Eugenio has been right along side us as "new puppy parents" guiding us in the best parenting possible. We've made a couple "oops" and I ask a lot of questions but he's always so kind and compassionate in getting us through it. He takes as much time as you need. Shep's not spoiled, he's just well loved and always a bit nervous going in (it is the vet after all) but he really does love the team and Dr. E. We have gone to this vet clinic for several years now. Today was the first time we had issues. Jacqueline was the receptionist and tried her best to help us. We called at 9:30 for pain pills for our westy mix and we tried 3 more times during the day and they were busy. We finally drove in at 4:30 knowing they close at 5 on Sat Jacqueline and excuse me if spelled wrong, tried to get this young vet to help us. We could hear him in the background.
