My cat has been having skin issues and I felt like they were much more at ease handling him. They gave us a prescription to give to him before his next visit so that he's able to relax. I've been bringing my cat here for her care since last year, her spay went well and we really loved the care our kitty got. We booked for her annual wellness and vaccines and the team told my husband if we were any later than 5 minutes late we would need to reschedule entirely, the willingness to turn my pet away was concerning considering we come from Puyallup to use this clinic and have to take a day from work because they are only open during the week. My husband made it right on time, it took 10 minutes to get back into a room, and him and my cat were on their way by 10:30 WITH shots, I was told my cat was seen for less than 5 minutes, and its extremely disappointing to think we were charged as highly as we were for what my husband described as a 2 minute once over. We didn't get an answer or investigation on why her leg was tender. I requested an invoice and was shocked to find how much it cost compared to what I was told took place. It's a massive bummer to have to make this but the response I received from the team suggests notes were made on her profile that did not reflect the reality of her visit, and I feel we are being swindled out of quality care for my animal. only received a response after leaving a review and there is a massive lack of accountability from the leadership here, defensiveness to valid concerns and more care put into being ensuring my animals medical records reflected my complaints then her actual care. Run away! This vet is over priced and deliver sub- standard care. My dog was seen for a rule-out urinary tract infection. I was charged $100 for a UA and then no one called me with results which were abnormal for 2 weeks!! Then they want me to spend over $500 for more diagnostic tests without treatment. I've been ta to since taking my pets here since 2013 and, I have high standards and my only complaint is that it can be hard to get in because they are so busy-- evidence that they are good at what they do because they are in such high demand. They send messages via text and email to communicate routine care and help in an emergency. The vet will personally call you with updates you might need or to answer your questions. Yes, it can take time but it is never unreasonable or impossible to get the communication you need. I wish they still had weekend or on-call hours, but I have no complaints. We have always gotten *great* care here with very good communication here. They were terrific in an emergency. My extremely curious cat ate some prescription medication out of a pillbox. I called the ASPCA Poison Control number who told me to take her in to the ER Vet to get treated. The local ER Vet was overflowing with an 8 hour wait and they tried to direct me to Seattle or wait :( I called Soundview back and the techs and Dr. Siu (who is new) went above and beyond to help out my cat even though they don't routinely emergencies. They recognized we needed timely intervention and then they were all very kind, communicative and very attentive. Overall I am very happy with the care we get routinely and how they have helped in emergencies even though their focus is regular, routine pet care. read more

It seemed like every single employee stopped what they were doing and did everything they could to make sure we were ok and make Luther comfortable. I've been taking my dogs here since 2014. The staff and service have been great. However, the appointment that mattered most, the vet/staff failed my pet and left my dog and family with a traumatic experience that we won't ever forget. On 12/3/24 my sweet boy Hugo had his end of life appointment scheduled. He was calm and collected when we brought him there. It was supposed to be a peaceful passing, but as the appointment progressed it was stressful, traumatic and anything but peaceful. The communication was minimal, multiple attempts to get a catheter in three of his legs, the catheter falling out when attempting to give a sedative, my dog who has never bitten me bit me, they had to put a cone around his head because they made him so agitated and having to wait 5-10 minutes for the final injection to get to his bloodstream because they had to give this injection in his belly. Even after giving the final injection, Hugo was agitated, had a cone around his head and tried to again bite me. I couldn't comfort him as much as I wanted to because of what had taken place up to that point. Come to find out, I'm pretty certain nobody looked at his records to see his prior injuries/ailments and he was INCREDIBLY agitated for the last moments of his life. He had issues with his spine/back and hind legs. The vets office instructed us to stop his meds that he was on that helped him because of the large mass in his stomach. They were primarily just focused on his stomach mass during his final appointment. Attempting to move his hind legs and/or moving him/carrying him made him hurt/uncomfortable. Had someone actually taken the time to review his charts beforehand, some of what had taken place could've potentially been avoided. I'd strongly encourage you to do your research and look for a vets office that actually takes the time to prepare for their pets/appointments. I spoke with the office manager who indicated "everything that could go wrong, did" and the medical director who wasn't sure his records were looked at but stated areas of concern are highlighted/marked in the pets charts, and Hugo's weren't. read more

I would give this place 6 stars if I could. Dr. Sullivan and the staff there are phenomenal. I wish I knew all the front desk clerks and vet techs by name so I could give them a shout out too. My wife and I have been taking our pets there for a couple of years, though until recently they'd never needed more than routine care. Our youngest, just-out-of-puppyhood-dog got really sick, and I took her in, and they took amazing care of her. Dr. Sullivan's exam and lab evaluation were extremely thorough, and she took lots of extra time to make sure I understood all our treatment options, especially as it took longer than expected for our dog to recover. She definitely went the extra mile figure out what was going on and how best to treat it. I really can't recommend this place enough! read more

We've been consistently impressed with Soundview. We've liked the vets for regular visits (annual checkups, shots, etc.) But we've experienced two semi-emergency situations where we've called in and the vets have been incredibly kind and accommodated us. A year or so ago, one of our dogs was bitten by another dog and the wound wouldn't stop bleeding. It was just before they closed for the night, and the vet agreed to stay to help us. The vet and a staff member stayed late to help us - such incredible kindness. More recently, another of our dogs had a sudden and surprise health issue that was borderline urgent at night, when Soundview was closed. We spent 6+ hours waiting in our car outside Summit (overnight) just to be told the next vet wouldn't be available until 7am - even though we'd called the night before, got there at 8pm and were told we'd have a 5+ hour wait and we were on the list to be seen. They sent us home without a vet even looking at our dog, and told us to come back the next day (and wait again). So we called Soundview the next day, explained the situation and how our poor dog is in pain, and the front office staff said they'd ask the vet if they could squeak him in. The vet said yes, which is another real kindness. Finally, we've had two dogs put to sleep here in the past 5 years (both with old age and significant health issues causing pain). It is a miserable, gut-wrenching experience to lose a furry family member, but Soundview was so helpful through those experiences. No, it's not cheap. Vet care isn't cheap. read more

We adopted a special needs cat from the Tacoma Humane's Society, and we needed to get her established and have a wellness check, and get her somewhere for her medications within 5 business days per the paperwork. Soundview is listed as a veterinary clinic that has one of these agreements. When my wife called, (She has it on speaker as she's hard of hearing and it works better for her.) the clerk that answered the phone would not let her finish her sentences and just said no new pets, they aren't taking them. The clerk that answered would not even let my wife finish speaking before saying she'd get a manager and put my wife abruptly on hold. She came back ten minutes later talked over my wife, when my wife was just trying to double check that we were talking about the Humane Society free wellness check up. We called the Human Society back, and they were surprised because they only put vet's they have an agreement on the list. They were going to call and double check and remove them from the list if Soundview is no longer working with them. At this point, even if Soundview was taking new patients, I would not go because of how aggressive the staff member that answered the phone was. read more

We've taken our pets to Soundview since we moved to Tacoma in 2013. We love Dr. B and the care we received from her! However, it seems as if they have been overwhelmed by their growth and have had difficulty keeping up. The other aspects of Soundview (besides Dr. B) leave a lot to be desired - scheduling tech appointments as our dog needs a monthly shot and getting a nail trim our difficult. They don't do tech appointments before 10:00 am and the wait gets longer as the day goes on, so if we don't go in the morning, we could be there for a while just so she can get the shot. There's also almost always a problem when we come to pick up medications. They're not quite ready or it takes a long time to pay. There always seems to be a lot of confusion and we pick up these medications regularly. I called today because my dog needed an emergency appointment and was told he could not be seen today because there was only one doctor on site and he was in surgery. I understand that things get busy and emergencies can't always be accommodated, but how does a facility that is so big only have one doctor in the clinic on a weekday? The care was so much better before they expanded. Now that Dr. B has left, we will likely leave also. read more

I've been going to this vet for over a year, and today finally scheduled an appointment at a different vet. The veterinarians here are very capable, but the ability to communicate or get messages to and from them is next to impossible. I'm not sure if the disconnect is on the front desks end, the vets end, or both. It took me 12 days to get blood results back, then another week to get a response back on who could schedule a follow up appointment for me. Appointments besides in the middle of the day are impossible to come by, so if you work a 9-5 it's very difficult to get in. I called to request a prescription refill, and never received a call back. I've made an appointment, received a confirmation email of the time my appointment was, and when I showed up was told I was a "no show" because they had a different time than what I was told. Over all an extremely frustrating experience. For how much money I have spent there, the customer service stinks!!! read more

I will never bring my dogs here again after the rude and incompetent treatment we received by two different "veterinarians." They caused my dog quite a bit of trauma because of their rules, when if they had just treated him with me in the room things would have been fine. The doctor told me "Trust the process, we've done this a few times" before traumatizing my dog and then not treating him. This was after a 3 month delay in getting an appointment. I used to recommend this clinic, but that no longer holds true. This vet clinic has pushed extra services and medications on me, and made it quite awkward when I questioned the necessity of each product. I used to take my dog here, and year after year, I find out that the business practice gets more money-driven. It was certainly irritating when they sold me de-wormers that $100 for 2 doses for a large dog, and told me there are no other options. After getting home and doing my own research, I later find out that there are lower cost options that are $20 and equally as effective. For this reason, I always double check medication prices and options on my phone before paying. And after the clinic pulling a few of these tricks on me, I've decided I won't support this type of business practice anymore. This is becoming a pattern that is more apparent after several visits. Now that the clinic has undergone renovations, undoubtedly the cost of increased rent is being shifted onto pet owners. I would caution pet owners to scrutinize your bill, not agree to any unnecessary services, and fight back on unreasonable costs, as you really cannot trust that the way they bill. read more

This place used to be the best, back when Dr. Martin was the head of the practice. Since he left the service has been horrible. We started bringing our dog here when she was a puppy and had always received prompt and excellent care. Over the past two years everything has changed... Our last visit the new vet made me feel highly uncomfortable and basically as if she was trying to rack up as much money as possible during our visit. Rather than honest care of what our pet needed, it turned into you need to do everything I recommend or your a bad pet parent. So that really rubbed me the wrong way. Now to my most recent experience. Our dog, now 8, had a serious medical issue. we called into Soundview and tried to get her seen, we were honestly scared for her life, and were told that we needed to wait 8 weeks before they could do anything. We ended up needing to spend over $3,000 in emergency care services that would have been majorly discounted if we had got her into a normal vet that could give her some antibiotics and pain medications. We have had other experiences similar to this prior to this last one. I am beyond disappointed in Soundview. Frankly, they are dead to me and I will never give them another penny of my money as long as I live. Hopefully others will see my review and wise up. and find another veterinarian that actually cares for their pets and doesn't look at them as simply dollar signs.. I've tried to remain open-minded about this place due to its largely positive reviews. However, my three or so interactions with this establishment have been increasingly disappointing. I will give the only positive credit where it is due - scheduling has been very easy with each appointment made. I make it a personal habit to arrive early to appointments. Once, I showed up a whole 45 minutes early and acknowledged this to staff; It's my fault for arriving early, but I will gladly wait in the waiting area. I was excited when my pup, Archie, and I were immediately ushered into the small examination room. But this excitement waned as the full 45 minutes before my scheduled time passed. Then an additional 10 or so before we were met with an assistant. A good 15-20 minutes passed after that before the doctor (Admittedly, very gentle and patient with Archie) met us. Archie (like most dogs these days, I imagine) is highly anxious. Bad enough we're seeing a doctor, but we have to sit in a small, empty room for an hour? He hated me, and on that day, I hated that place. Every visit to Soundview, I have to prepare myself block off all the additional fees, services, and overall extras that are continuously offered. Once, I paid the extra amount for them to extract his urine for a sample (A fee I was forced to incur because, of course, after an uncomfortable hour, the last thing Arch wanted was to pee on command for strangers), and I never heard back from the staff. No call, email, return date. Was that on me? Or maybe the sentiment was "no news is good news"? Granted, I've saved these minimally-listed complaints (I've accumulated quite more through my other dog, Clyde, and my boyfriend's personal experiences) in hopes that one outstanding experience could eliminate my negative image. The last straw was a call this morning, right as they opened, to be immediately placed on hold. I walked Archie around the block for a full five minutes before I hung up, called right back, and was immediately helped. I hate to wonder how long I would have been listening to hold music if I had been "patient" enough. I truly tried to have a permanent home for Archie with Soundview, but my experiences will have me immediately looking elsewhere. read more

Overall I am still mostly satisfied with this place. In my last review I talked about one of the hardest things I had to do and I am still very grateful for the help from the doctor, unfortunately that doctor is no longer there. He was our main draw and I am sad to say that while the other doctors are good, they were not as good as him. Before I go too deep into this quick review I do want to say that during this time of covid I do not blame the hospital for being busy and it being tough to get in, nor do I blame them for having to turn away appointments and new clients. Its a tough time for everyone and they are doing what they can, plus I believe they lost another doctor to a new practice. For the most part I am still very happy with them. i think they do a good job, but I am a little concerned with some of the decision making of the new doctor and some of the techs. We have an old dog that is getting close to the end. We have known this for a while, she has outlived her entire dog family and she is only sleeping and eating and not much else. We took her in because she was experiencing some bladder control issues. They prescribed a medicine that is suppose to help tighten up her inside parts around her sphincter, which has for the most part worked, but she also suggested getting blood work and doing more tests. This seemed kind of ridiculous considering that she is 17 years old. There isnt any reason to do any further tests on a dog this old. She doesn't need a bunch of uncomfortable procedures to determine she is slowly dying of old age. I mean I hope she lasts for another 5 years, but I am also realistic. Additionally I had a weird issue with one of the techs. I blame it on being too busy, but it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. We were contacted by the office manager and he assured us it was a busy issue and a miscommunication. Everyone else there has been excellent and other experiences have been great, but this was just not great. Like I said I am still overall happy with them and we will continue using them for now, especially during the covid. I dont think its a smart idea to make a drastic decision during a time like this. We will gauge it on our next trip in. I am happy how they have been with our new puppy. I do have one final note, I am not super happy that they are not open on the weekends at all now, as a person who is still working full time it would be nice to know I have the option of weekend trips, but I recognize this is a strange time and I find it hard to blame them for this. read more

Soundview has been our vet practice of choice for years and served our needs well, but sadly, since the departure of Dr. B, we will be moving on. It is nearly impossible to get an appointment without waiting weeks. The front desk staff is always overwhelmed and there seems to be no method of prioritizing urgent appointments. If your pet needs to be seen soon, good luck. The clinic has grown far beyond their capabilities and it shows. A bit of advice for Soundview management: if you can't keep up with demand, stop taking new patients. Clients who have been with you for years deserve better than to be told their pet, (who has an infected wound) can't be seen for 5 weeks. What's the point of having a family vet if they can NEVER fit you in when you really need it? read more

Wow--we went there this morning for the first time, and Dr. Martin was amazing! My dog needed her boosters/vaccinations, and it was quick and easy. It's the first time I have ever been to a vet where they weren't trying to convince me to spend more money. I felt guilty because I knew my dog needed a teeth cleaning and usually a lecture comes with that, and he didn't do that at all. Oh--and there was a mix-up with the time I was scheduled. I thought it was today at 8, the staff had me tomorrow at 8, but I wouldn't have even known because the girl at the front desk was wonderful and made sure I still got in right at the same time, despite us not being on the schedule. I am so happy with our new vet, and will be recommending him and his staff to anyone and everyone in Tacoma! read more

I would give ZERO stars if I could for the doctor. She is very pleasant until you question her. Her professionalism leaves alot to be desired. She should have pulled us into an exam room; instead decided to scold us in lobby so all patrons could bear witness. Our poor puppy was left with a splint on for 8wks. A wrap on the 2nd foot for " support", AND they wanted him to come in every week for a bandage change. They insisted that we were not keeping him down and quiet and prescribed even stronger sedatives. At this point, 8wks in I wanted a 2nd opinion. Well, guess what?? The new place has a radiologist read their xrays!!! The radiologist said there were NO fractures and to remove the splint! The front desk staff are very friendly. I will NOT be taking my puppy back in there and if asked I will share this story with anyone looking. for a vet. read more

Edit: I need to make it clear that in any ER or urgent care setting, I can understand a doctor being a hurry to treat the pet. However, this doctor was not in any rush whatsoever. She left my cat with me after the 2-minute exam (rather than taking him back with her), while sending in the technician who spent a good 10 minutes going in and out to get answers from her. At every veterinary hospital I've been to, including VCA and Blue Pearl, the doctors actually call you directly or talk to you in person about the surgery, post-op care, or results. None of this happened in this situation. Your receptionist called me to pick up my cat and your technician came out to the general waiting area with my cat in his carrier with his medication. I received no other contact with the veterinarian, other than that 2-minute exam. There was absolutely no excuse for this doctor. The front desk was great at trying to get me in the same day since it was an emergency. My original vet is Columbia Vet and sadly was booked out for days but gave us names of places to go to, incuding this one. The doctor that saw my injured cat was so cold and distant, I honestly felt like I did something wrong. She never responded to my greeting, she barely spoke and when she did, it was to ask when did I start to notice it. She examined my cat for about two minutes and left the room just to send in the technician in to talk to me instead and explain to me what was going to be done. How valuable is her time that she doesn't want to let a concerning pet owner ask her questions? The vet technician was friendly and helpful but I was so worried about my pet that I wanted to talk to the person who was going to perform the surgery. The technician had to run back and ask the doctor when she couldn't answer my questions herself. After picking up my cat from the surgery, it was the technican again who gathered all the information for me. I guess the practices are different everywhere you go. Here, you'll be pushed off to the technicians which I wasn't used to since our primary vet actually likes to spend time with animals and they try to personally inform us themselves. I can understand doctors can be busy, but when you lack doctor-patient relationships and empathy, it just becomes a money-hungry business. read more

Dr. B was patient and loving with our older dog, and offered both strategies and reassurance for her anxiety. When we had some meds questions, she was available by email for follow up. Every time I bring my dog in for nails clipped or shots they charge me 45.00 for Wellness exam which isn't given except Vet walks in looks at Dog, any problems? None that is it other than a quick look in her ears, looks good? no went to the pet store to get something to wash out her ears, they were dirty.. New girl vet, never called after biopsy on bully bump. She took an expensive x-ray on her leg, she was having problems with after knocking her out and said she didn't know that I should take her to a vet surgeon in Oylmpia.. I could not say enough about the Soundview team. Our boy, Brutus, has now met just about every one of the doctors, and - because of his burn-the-place-down personality - has developed a reputation there. Brutus unfortunately has heart failure, and the Soundview team has been extremely helpful and supportive throughout the entire journey. They've been honest with us about what we should be doing, and what he needs. What really set them apart though is how much they genuinely care. This is why we kept trekking down to Tacoma from Seattle. They treat your little buddy the way we all wish for our pets - some other vets simply treat them like animals, which could be hard to take especially during serious medical issues. When we had to eventually transfer Brutus to a specialist, the Soundview team continues to follow up with us and check in to see how he is doing. Seriously heartwarming stuff. This is by far the WORST veterinary hospital in Tacoma. As a established patient. I should be able to get my dog in there in a semi emergency situation. They offered drop off, but I don't trust them since one off their receptionist named Paris a few weeks ago hit and three my dog to the ground. He also strangled him to hold him still on the scale. Very unprofessional front office team, and the back office girls act like they are in a daze. My dog never had aggression issues until he spent a day dropped off with them.....hmmmm. read more

First of all I want to say thanks to a front desk. They were very helpful when I called for Sunday appointment. I understand that Sundays are usually pretty busy days because not many hospitals work and only one doctor at Soundview Vet Hospital on Sundays. Nonetheless, they managed to schedule a time for us. We had just moved here from LA and were looking for a new veterinarian for our Boston terrier girl, and visited another clinic recently which we didn't quite like. So, we finally found a great doctor A. Brossoit. She gave our dog Mitzi very sweet greetings and knowledgeable consultation. Our dog was happy as much as a dog can be at a vet examine and literally didn't want to leave doctor's hands. My husband and I came to the hospital to get a second opinion and we are totally satisfied with what we have got. Dr. B is very thoughtful and compassionate specialist who does care about your dog and not for your money. We'll definitely be back if any occasion occurs. read more

I am still happy with the doctors at this animal hospital but the front office staff is terrible. They are unprofessional on the phone and in person, they have created obstacles to care in terms of medication refills (and it seems that the only reason is because they don't want to be bothered to check with the vet or vet techs), they have misquoted pricing for tests and refuse to acknowledge their mistakes, and recently they had some confusion on their side in terms of my amount due for services which they said they'd resolved during my visit, only to receive a collection call a month later. Dealing with the front office is so frustrating that if we weren't moving out of state in a couple months I would switch vets. read more

This was my first visit here with my german Shepherd - who really is a handful! The entire experience was pleasant from the staff to the doctors to the guests waiting with me in the waiting room. I was seen very quickly and the vet loved my playful dog and listened to all of my concerns and thoroughly explained what was going on with my dog. I did not feel like I was being pressured into anything and I didn't feel like they just wanted my money. Also, while waiting in the waiting room, my phone was dying and Paris, the administrator saved the day with a phone charger right when my phone had 1% life left! It's the little things! Between my girlfriend and I we've had 1 dog and 4 cats go in and out of Soundview. They've helped us with a wide variety of problems and the staff and Dr.s have always been very nice and helpful. It does sometimes feel like we're paying for a lot of different things and it adds up quick, but honestly, human healthcare is no better. The positives are: The staff is always great, the service for the animals has always been good, scheduling is always great. Doctor B is a lifesaver. We have a 6 month old puppy that has been going to Soundview since we got her and has been a little bit of a medical problem child.
