The meals are all you can eat so you definitely get value for your dollar. The ingredients were fresh and we loved being able to pick all our favorites for our bowls. I was curious about the business model because I've never seen a restaurant like this. Service was really good too. The host brought me to the buffet line to check out the food first before sitting me down. I was sold! She was super friendly and made sure I was taken care of. Had a reservation for 12:30 and were seated immediately, which was a nice start. The waterfront view at the end of Pier 39 is definitely a highlight -- gorgeous location. The food selection is interesting, but calling this "Mongolian BBQ" feels like a stretch. Instead of the usual flavors, they offer seafood like salmon and tuna, steak bites, ribs, bacon, chicken cubes, and even hot dogs and hamburger options (with buns). Sauces range from Alfredo to green tomatillo -- again, not exactly traditional. The biggest issue? The value and the hygiene. For the price, the quality of ingredients was incredibly underwhelming -- cheap cuts and filler items. You're paying a premium for a gimmicky concept and a nice view, not great food. And while the grill cook was friendly and clearly passionate, the showmanship quickly crossed into unsanitary and obnoxious. Throwing used bowls that guests have handled onto the grill area -- just to try to bounce them into a bin and miss most of the time -- was gross and unnecessary. Even worse was seeing him wipe sweat from his face with a towel and then keep working without washing his hands or changing gloves. That's just unacceptable in any food service environment. Overall, it's a fun concept in theory, but overpriced and poorly executed. This could be a decent concept but the grill was tiny and caused a huge wait for the food to be prepared. Long lines for the grill. Also the chefs didn't do anything cool i.e. fires or cool cooking. Overall the selection was not great, food quality was low, the food bar was a total mess, the were out of everything, I waited 30 minutes for my drink, it seemed that the wait staff would disappear. This was our first time coming here. Came on a Saturday 3pm, there was open seating everywhere! Staff and cook were friendly, we sat at the window overlooking the water, food was good. I had 3 bowls, husband had 4 bowls, and I could have eaten more if I wasn't so full (2 bowls only pictured) Money is worth it especially if eat a lot. Service was fast but there weren't a lot of people at the time. It definitely started to get crowded towards the end of our stay. Me and my boyfriend went to this cool new place at Pier 39. The view of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge are absolutely wonderful, we asked for a booth close to the window and it was perfect. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted and welcomed inside. Our waiter quickly approached our table and gave us a small description of the all you can eat bowls. The place is very clean and organized. A lot of good options for pasta, meats/tofu/mussels, vegetables, a large variation of sauces, plus tortillas. The guy on the grill was very kind and we had a good time talking with him. The bowls are small but good portion, makes sense so you can try a little bit of everything. We went around 2pm today on a Thursday so it was only us and 3 more parties. I would recommend this is if you want to take your time and enjoy as much as you can because we heard that during the weekends and evenings the line goes out the door. I only have great things to say about this place. The staff were very attentive. If you're unfamiliar with how the restaurant works, they are happy to give you a tour and walkthrough the process. The cooks were friendly and happy to make suggestions. You could tell they were having fun putting on shows for the guests. Everything was immaculate. Worst experience ever! First, we walked in on a Tuesday when it wasn't busy at all. The good news was we got to choose our seats at an amazing window view of Alcatraz island and the bay. After sitting down for a bit, no server came so we went to the interactive grill and followed the directions on the wall. I've been to interactive grill places before but this one had very mediocre meat choices and sauces and tiny bowls. It was underwhelming to say the least. Some of the dishes were not washed well and some sauces were empty. I looked past this though. The best part was being our food up to watch the cook grill it. My son loved this part! The plate was filled with the small portion but you could go back unlimited times. I had steak and veggies with noodles and teriyaki sauce. It was good.... Not amazing. It was exactly what I could make at home. Then, I went back to try a different flavor with Alfredo sauce and fettuccini noodles and broccoli and chicken. It was horrible because it was mixed with the flavors that were already on the grill. My son loved the noodles! Which I could make at home for $1. The whole time we were eating, I was wondering about drinks. Nobody ever came to talk to us, so I drank my water bottle. Finally, I asked a lady how we can pay to leave. Then, a man came apologizing that he didn't know we were there and he was supposed to be our server. So, he offered my son and me free sodas. We reluctantly accepted. But... 20 minutes later, he came with what was supposed to be Starry soda. He apologized that he didn't come earlier. There were about 2 families eating in the whole restaurant at this time, so I'm not sure what he was doing. But.... The soda was not soda... there was no flavor at all. Finally, after he came back to give us the check, I told him about the soda and he apologized that the soda machine was at its end and he'd look into it. Then, when I saw our check was incorrect, I waited another 20 minutes. I hardly saw this guy so we kept waiting forever to see him. Then, he still didn't give us soda. He said they haven't fixed it yet. Then, he fixed the check. And offered free cheesecake. My son wanted to try the dessert even though we were there forever. So, we accepted. My family and I went here Sunday. Almost a perfect experience! Luka was our server. He was awesome. Very kind and accommodating. The food is awesome. Really good and good quality. You add that to sitting next to a window. The food plus the view made it an awesome super fun experience! We are all excited to go back. The only thing I hope they change is their napkins. Their napkins are nice. But they're made out of some material where as soon as you touch them or use them small pieces start falling off and floating around the air. It was a bit annoying. I had brought a group of friends from all over the country to try this place during our vacation and boy was it a mistake. Upon entering the establishment we were greeting and sat right away, we were given a small explanation of how the menu worked. A few people in the group ordered alcohol but no IDs were checked. The waitress stated that since we "had no kids" in our group it was ok (we didn't but still) once we had all of our drinks in we got up to check the selections. The cook began telling us what we could and couldn't do but didn't really explain what he wanted us to do exactly. Several in our group hadn't been to a Mongolian style kitchen and weren't used to the choices. When most of us finished filling our bowls the chef asked us to line up as he began putting the bowls on the grill. There were 9 of us in the group so there were several bowls on the grill. Things were going well and another cook had joined him. Upon the other cook joining, both of cooks began to have causal talk in Spanish and distracted each other leading to a plate being dropped directly on the grill. One of our party spoke Spanish and heard them joke and laugh about dropping it. we asked them to please clean the whole grill since the shards of the plate could have gotten into the food. We received push back on that request as they stated that they had cleaned the affected food, we requested again that we wanted it clean as it was a health violation. They got upset but did eventually agree. It was at this point we did not feel comfortable eating here as that is not a situation that a chef should joke about nor should it be something that it argued against. We left for the sake of our health and don't plan on returning. Please train your chefs to be safe when it comes to the food and don't argue with customers when it come to their health. read more
