I am incredibly disappointed with Fire Mountain Gems. Not only did the beads I received look nothing like what I actually ordered, but one of the glass beads arrived completely broken. I called customer service regarding the broken glass bead, and the interaction with a representative named Lydia was awful. When I tried to explain the situation, she told me she was confused about what I was saying. I patiently broke it down and explained it more clearly, only for her to act even more confused about why I was explaining it to her. Instead of trying to help, she became short, incredibly rude, and pretty much hung up on me at the end of the call. I expected much better quality and service from this company. read more

I have been a long-time customer of Fire Mountain Gems and they have always delivered. I am very happy with the quick deliveries. They kept me up to date on the package and it arrived earlier than expected. They have a gorgeous catalog that really inspires with great photos so you know exactly what you are getting. I mostly purchase their acrylic beads and buttons and other decorative applique type articles as I am a costume maker and these add real pop to my products. I have included two photos. Another reviewer mentioned their Boss Bead Bag which is a mystery bag of goodies. I purchased one and found it is mainly useful if you are looking for that extra item to enhance a project, because the bag is a sampling of different types of embellishments. First time/Last time customer. Ordered. Products looked great online. Detail looked good. Then they arrived.....Some beads that were listed as glass on site, were clearly labeled as acrylic on the tag. Quality wasn't there. Shorted on length on some strands. It was a good size order. I wanted to send about half of it back. Well I opened the packs to actually measure the strands and examine the products, so that pretty much voided everything. I bought a lot, so I got a discount and they'd probably screw me over for that. I am making necklaces for a children's hospital fundraiser. I am using semi-precious stone beads/freshwater pearls, nice glass. This is coming out of my own pocket. I would be ashamed to use these beads, let alone take the time to string them. I have only ever done business with Fire Mountain by mail. I check the website at work intervals or when they send me an email with an advertisement. Their selection is vast. They sell lots of things. As someone once said from the sublime to the ridiculous. The only items that I can find that they don't have in some form or another is some turquoise crosses that they no longer carry. I don't think they are going to sell them again. Note that I said in some form. They may not have the mm size you are looking for. They are good about saying size, strand length if needed, MOHs hardness. They also may have the size you want that only comes as a single bead. The best way to shop at Fire Mountain is to know what you are looking for. To make sure you have the best price look on the internet and note what other providers are charging. Check the sizes of products and how many items are available in an order. You get my drift. I believe that FM has competitive prices on non-gem items. In my experience gem quality materials are found in many places, but always check with FM to confirm. Maybe I should say that when they are good they are very good. The moral of the story is that you are spending your hard earned money so you want to know where you're getting best value. read more

I have shopped at Fire mountain for many years and overall have been satisfied. I have never tried the mystery bag of beads before (Boss Bead Bag 1 pound for $6). I have to say I was not thrilled-The beads were mostly wooden beads, cabochons and random lampworked glass. There were a few findings (bent head pins and clip on earring findings) but I would NEVER purchase again. Even though it was $6 after adding shipping it totally was not worth it. read more

I have been buying and working with acrylic beads for over 30 years. I like the mystery of mixed bead offers and am usually satisfied with the overall quality of what I receive. Sure, there are sometimes too many pony beads, or an obvious drop of particular "junk" beads they couldn't sell. Nothing could prepare me for what I received from Fire Mountain. The disdain with which they shipped this "mix" was disrespectful. In 2 lbs of "beads" I could, only salvage a dubious 3-4 ounces. The vast majority were clearly rejects that looked nothing like what they offer in their catalog. Ugly colors, scratched, dirty, weird shapes, holes that were off center or didn't go all the way through, large tags from poor castings. As a first-time customer I feel cheated. They sabotaged a potential customer. Many reviews are citing poor customer service. I intend to remove myself from their greedy grasp forever. read more

This was the first time I order through this company. Overall performance: 1. slow shipping 2. ordered Art Clay Silver 10 gram being rather pricey for what you get (3) $23.29 for 10gm, took a while to arrive to my office. Excited to receive/view the item, opened the small envelope 3x3 manufactured by Art Clay Silver, product of Japan (however the price of the clay is set by Fire Mountain Gems). I know and am aware how much 10 gram is (2 teaspoons) when I opened the plastic wrapped of the clay, I knew right then and there; there's no way it's 10 gram as advertised on the envelope, the clay I received was more like a teaspoon to be exact (and not 2 teaspoons, as should be). Since I've not started my thumbprint necklace project, and knowing the clay dries quickly once exposed to air, quickly put the clay on the teaspoon to measure. As expected, it was barely a teaspoon. Clay $23.29, shipping $5.99 (shipped from Oregon to Utah) $1.81 sales tax = $31.09 For a teaspoon metal silver clay, it's very pricey. I would not be disappointed, had it measured to 2 teaspoon (which is 10 gram). This experience makes me wonder if other craft / supply companies that purchase thru various metal clay manufacturing companies in Japan and/or other countries, truly understand what they're buying in the market and resell. I will try other craft supply companies, compare prices. For $31 and barely received a teaspoon immediately concluded my decision to be more careful/cautious in the future what I am buying and if worth my dollars. They have ridiculous policies and very bad customer service! Today I opened a $20 bottle of liver of sulfur, and have waited over an hour with absolutely no result! Every other liver of sulfur has worked on the same wire products within minutes. I have a defective product. But since it is "opened" it cannot be returned or exchanged! The agent had the audacity to say that they don't allow people to "sample" a product and if it isn't to their liking to allow returns! What kind of bullsh!t is that? Any legit business returns a product or at least gives credit for a faulty product! How is someone supposed to know whether a product works unless they use it?! Also, last time I had ordered, I was missing 5 items and the same agent kept promising to send the replacement and I had to be on her every few weeks, it was over 2 months before I got the product I had paid for! This was a non returnable item and I was fine with getting a surprise of mixed chains but they didn't send what was advertised. I'm extremely disappointed and won't be buying from them again. Received another order yesterday with damage yet again. This is what makes an experience with FMG so bad. It would cost more to return the items because according to the instructions you pay all the postage, than to throw it away. Even though their return instructions state I must return in a padded box or envelope, that's not how it's sent to me. They also suggest to insure the return package. The damaged item in this shipment most definitely should have been wrapped as it had fragile glass pieces. The like items were put into a plastic bag and tossed in with the other items I purchased. No protection for them. Some packing paper scrunched up at one end. I can't afford to continue to eat the costs of poorly shipped items. What I do is for fundraising, every penny counts. We also can't rip off our customers because of stock received in poor condition. I can't use them because it makes me look bad. I can't return them because that's even more loss. FMG might not care about what and how they send items out, but I do. I want my customers happy and loving what they buy. The first set of damaged items I received looked like they were packed that way due to how they were in the box I received. This second damaged item, there's no way to tell, but most likely in shipment. If it weren't for their shipping costs and poor return policy for damaged goods received, I would rate them much higher as I did like the variety and special sales. They add a little thank you, from a pen to tiny bead chips which is a nice thought, but not really useful. My orders are not small either. You would think they'd want to keep their larger orders and ensure proper shipment & quality items. I guess these days its a way for them to grab some extra money. They know I'll think just the way I am and will let them get away with it. Damaged items should be returned at their expense. So expect damages and expect to eat the cost of those damages or pay even more for the items by returning the damaged items at your expense, reordering & paying shipping costs AGAIN. 3x postage costs for an item/s is way beyond my expense budget and I don't think I should make my customers pay more for something to recoup my losses. My advice: Don't buy anything but beads or items you know can't be damaged in shipment. Don't buy boxes, glass pendants or anything you can imagine being broken or chipped before or during shipment. If I order from them in the future, I will hold to this and buy those items elsewhere from companies whose shipping & return of damaged items benefits the consumer not the seller. I ordered three nymo beading thread at 250 yards each. The first two were fine, but the last one was clearly defective (big rough patches on the thread so wouldn't really go into a needle). The problem is that I bought all three over 90 days ago. I do not open all my bulk items in advance, like thread, to make sure it is usable. So I lost almost 10 dollars on an item that I buy frequently and would have reordered if they would have given me credit for their defective merchandise. There are a lot of bead and thread companies. I ordered some materials that turned out to be very poor quality and not at all what I was looking for. Very disappointed because after receiving the items which wound up costing 65$ after shipping. I ordered dentalium shells and abalone triangle beads. The first is completely small and unusable and the second is drilled in a manner which makes them completely useless. Unfortunately, the diameter on all beads was about 25% smaller than listed on the website! My first complaint phone call was graciously received, with a promise to investigate and get back to me. Then my follow-up email was not answered. Finally my second complaint phone call was stonewalled, with a number of borderline insults made to me. I probably won't be ordering from this vendor again - the trust is not fully there. P.S. Today I received a friendly phone call validating my concerns and offering exchanges. This is progress. P.P.S. I began buying from Fire Mountain Gems and Beads an estimated eight or nine years ago. Until around 2014, I found their prices, quality, and even customer service very good to excellent. I got some great deals from them. However, since that time, the quality markedly declined and the prices skyrocketed for mediocre and often frankly ugly products. In the meantime, I continued to receive catalogues, even though I kept asking not to receive them--why kill all those poor trees, especially for crap? Today I phoned to ask (again) not to receive catalogues. The customer service rep demanded a great deal of information before he would comply, when all he had to do was ask me to read my account number off the catalogue. We'll see if these wasteful catalogues really stop. After reading other reviews, I was really sorry to hear about the horrible customer service. This is an example of a once-excellent company having gone downhill. There are so many better places online that sell beads. Try PANDA HALL. Yes, the items are from China, so some of them can be "iffy" at times (especially the clasps, many of which are made of cheap metal). However, the selection is huge, and chances are you'll be pleased with the selection and prices, even with shipping costs added. Fire Mountain, you've gotten too big, smug and complacent. I've ordered 100+ times from FMG, large and small orders. I've rarely had an issue, and when I have ( missing item, wrong item, item broken in transit) it is always resolved quickly without hassle. It does take longer for orders to ship if using the cheapest shipping method, or before a holiday such as Christmas, but it's understandable and never unreasonable. If I need something quickly, I pay for upgraded shipping, as these are processed and packaged with priority to the cheapest shopping method, as they should be. Many items I've ordered are even better than the photograph, which is difficult to imagine, as the photographs are very good at showing the actual item. Customer service is helpful and friendly. I find the prices on most items to be far better than other bead stores, websites and local craft stores and the product superior. I also find shipping costs to be reasonable, and shipping to be quick. I would highly recommend shopping via website or catalog with FMG! read more

I would have added a star if they were willing to carry a color bead that I need. I asked and they said they can not get that for me. I do not know why...I got the color from another bead supplier, so FMG should be able to get it. I would have ordered thousands of the beads each year. So the only beads I purchased from FMG were 8mm white glass pearls. So I placed my first order of 8mm white glass pearls and received it within 7 days. The quality was not as good as I had hoped. I threw away about 4-6 beads per strand of about 57 beads...but I did not complain because the strand was only suppose to have 50 beads. So the defective beads did not effect my overall total. Some of the beads had scratches, poor color coating and incorrect sizes...some beads were only 6mm instead of 8mm. Not happy to see that they were from China and had a heavy chemical smell. The price is about the same price as from my local craft store. But I can purchase large quantities from FMG. Much easier than searching every craft store in my area. The quality, prices, and selection are good to very good. However, I selected Best Way shipping, I ordered on 1/4/2020 it's 1/10/2020 and USPS says it's in transit without specifying a delivery date. FMG said they will not consider this an issue until 1/15/2020. I live in Washington State and Fire Mountain is in Oregon, using USPS First Class mail it would have already arrived. My order arrived in my state three days ago less than 25 miles away. If it was clear it could take 11 days to get your order I would have selected a different shipping method. This isn't my first order with FMG but it may be my last going to check out other online stores. read more

If you buy Duracell batteries there, you get Duracell batteries. But, if you buy a Walmart towel, you're getting a Walmart towel. If you stick to the Swarovski, Preciosa, or other brands, you can get good deals. I had found great deals, and then been disappointed by not so round garnet beads. I received a second shipment from Fire Mountain and I am glad I went and ordered a second time. I received some fun and quality items this time. First order was a grab bag sort of thing. I didn't like the quality of the stuff much and I only ordered again from them because of the big spring sale and prices on many items was greatly reduced. I was sincerely amazed at what I received for the price. I ordered strands of gems and glass beads and Ive put another larger order in since. I don't recommend the misc grab bag stuff very highly, although I will order at least one if and when the $5 special comes around (I understand it happens on occasion and doesn't last long at all as theres a limit on the number of these bags are available and rightly so as its over a pound of beads for $5) Now I do very highly recommend ordering from the special extreme sales they have and Im thinking this is a least 4xs a year or likely more than that. Shame on this company! I received a 1322 page catalog from them, then tried to place an order a month after I received it. I was told that every one of the fifty items I wanted to purchase had prices higher than advertised sometimes 50% or more! They said that they knew e prices were inaccurate when I was sent the catalog that has this year's date on e cover. And that on page seven HUNDRED and something there is a disclaimer that their prices fluctuate! They then all but told me their Lowest prices anywhere claim is completely false. I was told things such as "some people think our prices are low" and "our customers don't complain much about our prices". Lol. Well, I am complaining!!! It is horrible to trick people like this. You take orders based on prices you were just told in writing and then get told all the prices are a lie. They kept saying that the prices are there for "reference". Referencing what? Wrong prices? I don't need to reference inaccurate information. They would not honor their advertised prices and they couldn't have cared less. Oh, and be super careful too..... Anyone that knows me knows that I have a very eclectic and wide range of hobbies. One of those hobbies is making jewelry (AKA: Jenny loves pretty shit and I can't resist making her happy). I came across FMG fairly easily--they're a beading powerhouse--and quickly took advantage of one of their sales. My first order cost me 62 bucks (5 dollar shipping included) and scored me 112 items ranging from gemstones, focals, chains, wire, pearls and specialty tools. I've since been back on five different occasions and have yet to receive any broken or incorrect items. That being said, here are some (minor or major, depending on how you look at it) quirks and other things I've noticed: - Expect slight to heavy amounts of variation between 'identical' strands. Obviously, this is going to happen with natural materials, but this is true even for the manmade beads I've ordered. For a recent example, I ordered three strands of porcelain flat rounds in a slate tone. The first strand had a very uniform slate color with only the occasional variation in surface tone. The second strand was deeply pitted in areas with huge, visible black flecks--sort of like a 'burst' type glaze was used instead--and the third one was a relatively even mixture of the two varieties. Now... I don't give a fuck about it, but some people might. That's the gamble of purchasing things online and not being able to fondle the hooker before paying. - The 5 dollar flat rate shipping is a fucking bargain of mythical proportions because beads very quickly get heavy. The first box I ordered from this place was 30 pounds. How much did I pay? FIE DOLLA. Now, that being said, it's not always lightning fast; it took four days for them to even process my first order. In a stark contrast, I received this last one within three days of hitting 'goodbye second mortgage'. What I'm trying to convey is that you shouldn't torture yourself by predicting a timeline and just be satisfied you're not spending more than you spent on the whole damn order in shipping. - They ALWAYS have some kind of deal going on. Some of them are BS and some of them are so fucking good you'll triple check the prices. If you see a strand of pearls on sale for $1.50 that typically retail at 25 bucks a pop (and they legitimately do on this site, unlike Kohl's where EVRYTHANGS A SALE ALWAYS EVER) , don't fucking hesitate. Hesitation is weakness. Between the deals, shipping and quality, I'll definitely remain a repeat customer. read more
