Food: I love these subs! The Engineer is my favorite, the hubs likes the meatball and beef sandwiches equally and my sister digs the chicken breast sub. My mother took a look at the meats in their cooler and said that they are a really high quality brand. Try their signature hot sauce! You can buy one to take with you too for about $5. Service: The first time we went right when they opened we got a very enthusiastic welcome, but that has pretty much petered out entirely. The girl at the till was very helpful in helping us decide what to get. Also awesome? Touchscreen Coke drink machine! And, kids get a plastic fireman's hat with their meal instead of some stupid toy. read more

Don't visit this restaurant 10 minutes before posted closing time. I was well aware that closing time was 9 PM. I rushed there to make it and when I walked in at 8:50 PM employee "J" says to me "We're closed" then the cashier then looks at me and says dont pay any attetion to him. I then made it be known that I have 10 minutes till posted closing time and that making one more large sandwich wouldnt take long. It's really sad work ethics that employee "J" is in such a hurry to wrap up and go home for the night. I'll never visit this location again and when I posted review of my expierence on firehouselistens didnt seem like a very big deal and would think they at least would have offered me a free large sandwich for J's horrible attitude towards the paying customer. Though I'm typically biased against chains--in that I can't see cookie cutters appeasing everyone in 5 star form--this sammy shop was excellent. Maybe it was that I was fresh out of surgery; maybe it was that I was drugged higher than teddy ruxpin, but I put on the kiddie's fire hat and ate my marina covered sammy like a champion. The lady claiming to be the manager refused to identify herself and said she did not have to wear a mask because she did not want to. This used to be a Quizno's location before they shut it down and re-opened as Firehouse Subs instead. I popped in to check it out. They have a lot of subs to pick from, and their gimmick is that they steam cook the subs instead of grilling or toasting them (like Quizno's or Subway). It makes them hot and juicy, but the bread doesn't get as crisp. I prefer the way the Quizno's subs come out the most (between the three) if I'm going to get a grilled up sub. Overall, I felt overwhelmed by the menu choices. When they have a bunch of pre-designed sub and give them weird names (and Jimmy Johns does this too), it takes me a minute or two to figure out what I want. I can't just say "gimme a roast beef on wheat" or whatever. I have to order the Hook n' Ladder or whatever from their firehouse themed subs. The service was friendly but slow. It wasn't all that busy but it took longer than I thought it would. At the end of the day, it's a toasted sub. There isn't a whole lot of differentiation in the quick-sub-sandwich market I guess. They seem to use pretty good quality ingredients. The meat was tasty. As someone else mentioned, there are quite a few bottled sauces to choose from as well. They also have one of those 50 flavor coke touchscreen soda fountains too, for those that dig those machines (would rather have a mountain dew myself though). Not a bad place. Not a standout for me, but a worthwhile place to grab a sandwich. Subway is only 3 blocks from my house, and while not my favorite sandwich joint, I'd probably just go there over a 15 minute drive to Firehouse. Also, be warned that if you go at mealtime the parking lot is usually full-ish due to the larger Chipotle that is located next door. Also Firehouse only has limited seating due to it's small size. You're probably better off getting your sandwiches to go. read more

I've known firehouse for quite some time as they've had several locations across Florida where I went to high school and college. I'm very happy now I live just down the street from what I believe is the only location in MN. The subs- steamed hot for juicy and tasty meats. The ham is very sweet and delicious. Topped with melted cheese and fresh veggies. The bread is always perfect. Never had a bad experience with the food. Ever. The service- at this particular location has been good. Never rude but not as welcoming as the locations I've visited before. Most importantly they've been pretty good with speed. Average wait time for a firehouse (bearing in mind it's not freaky fast like other places because of the steaming process) Overall I highly recommend this place. Just don't come thinking "oh I'm having a sub so I'm eating healthy today" because that's not at all the case with firehouse. You won't find Jared hanging out at this chain. read more

Great place if you are a sub sandwhich lover! Higher quality meats and cheeses than other places. I did not know it was a chain at first until I researched it online, no matter about that, a lot of store in Florida. Every-time someone walks in the staff says, " Welcome to Firehouse," which is nice and unexpected. You will wait a little longer to receive your sandwich because this is not Subway! I only have experience with their meatball sub, (so far) which is outstanding and filling. I would rate their meatball sub better than Cosseta, and is little less (including tax) price wise for a 12" too. The only thing is the bread could be a little better, they should use more like a baguette. Plus, the Firehouse meatball sub puts a hearty helping of cheese on top and marinara sauce too and red pepper flakes can be requested. This is NOT a run-of-mill 'iffy quality shop like other sub shops, Firehouse is top notch in my book and very good. It has one of those Coke fusion machines if that is of interest to you,too. Overall, if you want good subs, don't mind paying a little more for better stuff, and are sick of Subway, Quiznos, and Jimmy Johns, then this a nice change of pace and will make you a regular because of their sheer choice in subs.! read more

Not a bad sandwich option. I was torn because my boyfriend said he's not a fan of Firehouse Subs (too expensive, doesn't fill him up, not that great) but it has decent reviews on Yelp. I decided to trust Yelp (sorry, boyfriend) and went into Firehouse while he headed to his beloved Chipotle next door. I studied the menu on the wall and ordered a sliced chicken breast hot sub on wheat. The girl that rang me up asked if I was OK with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mustard, and mayo. Yes to all but onions. I wish you could select other add-ons a la Subway and Chipotle, but oh well. While waiting for my sub to be made and toasted I discovered the hot sauce section. Now that is actually pretty cool. There must be 20 - 30 hot sauces to choose from, and someone has taken the time to rank how hot they are. I selected a habanero one and put it in the little to go cups they have set out. I was also amused when I saw the sign that says something like "founded by real firemen." Because I've always thought "made by firemen = really good food". Anyways, I added some peppers and salt and pepper when I got home. I also added the hot sauce (it was yummy). But after taking one bite I thought I tasted cheese. Upon closer inspection I found some cheese and it was pretty difficult to remove. I don't know why they would assume I want cheese, and it wasn't listed on the menu. So that was a little annoying. Aside from that my chicken sub was pretty darn tasty and the large/whole (8") filled me up. But I also think it would have been a little bland if I hadn't added salt, pepper, red peppers, and the hot sauce. I might be back to Firehouse Subs. OK, here's the deal. This is a sandwich shop. Nothing is cooked to order. All meats are cooked and sliced for quick assembly, then toasted. Nice, but the quick assembly process is a failure here. I was there at the lunch hour. Maybe 10 customers. That is not a lot of customers at the lunch hour. Four employees. Fifteen minutes to prepare my Firehouse Hero. Too long for a sandwich shop. I do not know why it took so long. They did apologize for the wait, but reading the reviews it seems they need to apologize often. If they are needing to apologize often, something is wrong. That needs to be corrected. Staff was pleasant, but quick service is key to a quick serve or fast food shop. The sandwich was decent. I got a multiple meat sandwich and it was not skimpy on the meats, just a little smaller then what I expected. I guess pictures can be deceiving. The pop machine is cool, but if they are going to have a machine with 1 spout for the many different beverages, than have more than 1 machine. It would be nice if they had Rum flavored Coke, with REAL rum! At least that would make the long wait a bit more tolerable. I do not know if I will return. Maybe if I can find a coupon for a decent discount. read more

I had no clue it was a chain. I just thought it was a place that really had their act together, and remembered what a real sub was back in the day. This is as close as I've come.They fill them up, and it's a special kind of glutton that can eat a whole one in one sitting. The schtick is steamed, so I had Basil get one of those. It's best to be eaten right away and not reheated hours later, because of the veggies. But being old fashioned, I had to have mine cold. I got the Italian. It comes with mayo and Italian dressing. I think just oil will work next time. As good as the ham is, I wish they used capicola (Italian ham) instead. The bread is nice and soft, and they offer whole wheat also. I had a sample of the tuna, they put relish in it. I was having a chat with Charles, as he was making my sub, about subs. He wouldn't eat them til he started working there. I'm glad the younger generations appreciate this. I was just recently bitching about this very subject. Then once I finally ate it in a couple of shifts, I thought, maybe it is a good thing it's not too easy to get this, and I have to go way across town to the East side. read more

Second time dining at firehouse subs. I may never come back. I ordered the Brisket sub (large) the bread was less than desirable. Not as crisp as the last visit. Portion and quality of the brisket was lower when compared to last visit. They probably shouldn't push a "brisket quality" item unless it truly deserves the title and meet the standards of this very classic style of sandwich. Stopped here after reading the reviews on Yelp. My son and I ordered the number 4-the Italian and number 3- steamroller subs. The Italian was pretty good, I think it may have been better on white then the wheat sub I ordered. The steamroller was really salty, I tried a bite and it tasted like it was drenched in a salt bath! The corned beef was dry and the pastrami lacked in flavor. My main downfall with this place are the prices. For 2 sub's and 2 drinks we spent $19.79. The size of the sub's are not worth the prices asked. I really don't think we will stop here again. read more

Got a Sammie the othe day while I was over on that side of town. The order counter is messed up with the layout so its confusing. Ordered a sandwich at 1130 am, waited a good 10 min for it and it was slow. Watched the kid take the meat out of the cooker and drain the grease and juice off of it for a few minutes. I was like wtf. Move forward, I got my sandwich and left. Ate it in the truck on my way to the next stop. It had great flavor but was smaller than a 6 inch from Subway. Left me hungry considering they advertise it as being bigger than Subway. Jimmy John's and Subway are a better value but this has a little more flavor while leaving you hungry. read more

I like how all of the subs have a firefighter connection to it. I also like how they have a fund for firefightets. I know that the food is not only quick and easy, but filling as well. I like how their food is made fresh right before you. I know that there many sub places to choose from but this one is one of my favorites. I have worked fast food/quick serve up to and including sit down dine in. I was struggling with my phone to get the coupons that firehouse had sent out. They did not need to scan it, they just needed to see it to just adjust the price down. I explained why I was there and that it was my first time and I wanted to get the deal. He stated that as long as I could show him the coupon I could get the deal. The sandwiches looked nothing like the incredible pictures or like the sandwiches my son had brought home in the past. With that being said they just looked greasy. I was surprised the manager didn't want my business bad enough to honor the coupons for me. My wife and daughter did think the sandwiches that my daughter purchased were good other than they were smaller than normal. read more

My husband and I had sort of an bad experience with this location today because my husband ordered a sub club sandwich and I ordered a hero sandwich. My husband wanted extra deli mustard and malo on his sandwich, but his order wasn't right because he didn't get any mustard nor malo on his sandwich like he requested. They gave me extra malo and mustard on my sandwich which tasted pretty awful because I think that they drenched my hero sandwich with mustard and malo. Although, customer service was on point at this location. My husband and I just moved here from Georgia and we use to attend the location in Hiram, GA and we never had any bad experiences like this. When I walked in there was only one individual ahead of me and I waited 15 minutes for a soggy smashed sandwich with a slice of pickle(inside a plastic bag) stuffed in the middle. I had a better experience this time round customer service wise and my sub(the Italian) was way good, almost as good as my favorite place to get an Italian sub which is Stewies in Forest Lake, but I'm not in Forest Lake a lot and this place is close to my neighborhood so its a good substitution. When you enter Firehouse, it's usually pretty empty, and you think... "great, I'm going to get in and out of here quicky." Well, you would be wrong. VERY slow service, to the point that it's actually pretty rude. Our cashier carried on a conversation with somebody in the backroom while I was standing right in front of her waiting to order. Firehouse subs is my favorite sub place. Their Hawaiin (pulled pork) is the best pulled pork I've ever had. My second favorite is their hook and ladder. The meat is steamed with generous portions; hot, fresh & juicy. You can get a standard 8" size or add $2.00 to get a 12" or add $2.00 to get double meat. We usually get teh 12" and it's plenty for the two of us. read more
