Thank goodness for this place, or we would have been sleeping with the sea otters! All the other places we tried to book a room at were closed for the evening, which was surprising since we were visiting from out of town. Typically, I'd expect someone to be at the front desk. Fortunately for us, Fireside Inn had staff working at night and was able to get us a room. Meanwhile, other places with "Vacancy" signs had no one available to check us in. The room was straightforward and modest. We requested a king bed, and the space was ample enough to move around comfortably. There was also a table with two chairs, so we could enjoy our takeout dinner without having to eat on the bed. This place will definitely be a go-to for us when we need a dependable, last-minute stay on the coast. read more

I wish I can write a better review as I typically do give out a lot of 5 star reviews to support small businesses. However, this place was quite unresponsive to our issue. I booked the hotel through hotels.com, and despite some negative reviews here, I thought I'd give this hotel a chance since it's pretty good and they offered "harbor view" of the rock from their room. This was for our stay 12/26-12/28/21. When we first pulled into the parking lot, it was pitch black because there was a power outage in the neighborhood. This was around 7 PM, and the receptionist checked us in and he provided us with tiny tea lights and then set up a flash light at the staircase as our room was on 2nd story. Fortunately, there were enough lights to get upstairs, but we relied heavily on our phone flashlight to stumble around our room. We went to Los Osos, next town over, for dinner. When we returned, power was back on. However, we were met early morning with heater off and power off again. It was freezing cold. Fortunately, we were able to charge our phones overnight. We couldn't really use the microwave and the heater was off on this chilly morning. So I was concerned about our stay. When it was about noon and we were going to leave for our outing, I realized that there was potential that we may face another dark night of no power. We paid for our 2 nights already, and I've asked the receptionist if we can get a refund for the 2nd night because we didn't pay to stay in the hotel with no electricity. We needed the hotel as a base to come back from looking at the rock. It's not there was much to do in Morro Bay so we'd be hanging out at the hotel more. And to boot, I have surgery on my leg that I was recovering (and am still recovering as I write this in Feb). I was using crutches and cane at that point. Why I chose the 2nd story room? For the freakin' so-called view that was quite disappointing, by the way. It wasn't worth paying extra for that view. Maybe for the taller ceiling. I was willing to sacrifice for the view, but I found out it wasn't worth stumbling around in the dark with unstable legs. So I've asked the hotel that we need a refund on the 2nd night. Just like other reviews, he said he'd have to check with the manager and the computer can't be on because of the power outage. It was just impossible. So I booked another hotel and left where there was plenty of power in Atascadero. It's mid-Feb, and the hotel has yet to call me. I called them once last month, and he said the manager will call me back. I should've known from these reviews that I'd get NO call back. Nothing. So as a reminder, I'm NEVER coming to this hotel. And don't bother booking here or you'll get burned if you have any concerns. read more

They have recently renovated/remodeled the property and the rooms look modern. Was able to finally get their Oceanview Balcony room as it's frequently sold out. It's a large room with vaulted ceilings and the room I got had a wrap around balcony. It was clean, and the staff from the front desk to housekeeping were very courteous. Booked a couple of nights here. Good location and room was super huge with balcony. The room was actually across the street from the car wash :( which was loud and constantly busy from ppl washing their cars beginning at 6am until 11:30pm. Aside from that our room was super spacious but is on the older side and furniture is outdated. The king size bed was a negative 0. So uncomfortable and hard. The shower water pressure is almost non existing. Our showers lasted some time, because of this. The gentleman who checked us in was very nice. If you like hard a mattress and no water pressure this is the spot for you. read more

No fire place in our room at the Fireside Inn! Very annoying, to check in get settled, and find out, NO FIREPLACE? SO DUMB. I called front desk and they say, not all rooms have a fireplace. Some rooms have the FP taken out. Then I asked to change rooms with a FP in it. Those rooms are occupied. This is where customer service should offer a discount or something to accommodate, or apologize. The gal didn't seem to care and didn't say much about the misleading info. This is a 3 part review. Parts 1 and 2 are pleasant. Part 3 is upsetting and in need of being addressed. 1. My family and I have stayed here before and I was so impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms, the friendliness of the staff and the location that I was really looking forward to this "mom-cation" 2. My initial reservation was Dec 10-12th, as I was having surgery in SLO on the 11th. As I was pulling into Morro Bay from the 41, around 7:30pm, I get a call to my *661 area code phone number*, from Ken, the manager, asking what time I would be checking in. I let Ken know I would be there momentarily. Check in was pleasant, I dropped my bags at the room and left to have dinner. I have surgery the 11th, and spend the majority of the day in bed following the procedure. I wake up today, the 12th, about 9 am and called for a late check out about 10. Ken said he could give me until 12 noon. Perfect. As I'm moving around trying to get ready for the day, I decide to stay another night. I make the reservation on hotels.com and walk over to the office to roll the reservation over so that housekeeping wouldn't worry about turning the room and I could keep resting. Ken is there and pleasant, happy to help me out. 3. My husband brings my children to visit me in the evening/for dinner. The kids shower here after dinner and I let my daughter watch a video on my phone as I'm combing her very curly hair. The kids are giving me hugs and kisses goodbye and in the chaos my husband grabs my phone by mistake. I realise my phone is missing about 15 minutes later and initially try to call both my phone and my husband's number from the room phone to no avail. I call the front desk, no answer. I walk over to the front desk, ring the bell, no response. I come back to the room, and call the number on the office door. Ken answers. I explain the situation and ask him to please call my phone or my husbands phone. He says no, long distance calls can't be made from the room. I walk over to the office. Ring the doorbell again. Ken comes out and initially tries to refuse to call my husband, saying he can't call a *long distance number*. I explain that my number has the same area code and he called me just fine the night I checked in. He reluctantly agrees to call my husband's phone, but refuses to call my phone. My husband does not answer as his phone is on silent, and Ken does not leave a message. He is very rude and dismissive, even after I explain that I have no way to contact my husband or vice versa, what if something happens to me or to one of our children? I return to my room, very upset, to the point of tears as I have awful anxiety and the "what-ifs" of the situation are very scary. I find my paperwork from the hospital, explain the situation and the operator (kind wonderful patient woman) agrees to call my number to try to reach my husband. //My husband tried to call the office back, asked to be transferred to my room. Was told no, the office was closed. The hospital operator calls him and explains the situation to him as he is driving back to the hotel to get my phone back to me. I'm very disappointed that Ken chose to disregard my upset and refused to help me past one phone call. I will not be staying at the Fireside Inn again nor will I be recommending it to my friends and family who come to visit from out of town. read more

The Fireside Inn is clean and close to the beach. Or "beach." The beach in Morro Bay is pretty unimpressive, but that's obviously not the Fireside Inn's fault. What is their fault is their unhelpful demeanor and dismissive attitude towards guests. No information is given unless asked for (like checkout times, or even what room number you have), and a question about how long the continental breakfast lasts earned this response: "8 until 9. I can't keep it going all day, I have other things to do." Arriving at 8:45, we found a bucket of individually wrapped danish and a jug of 99-cent orange juice, with no cups in sight. I guess everyone was supposed to just suspend the bottle over their mouths like a fountain. Being within walking distance from the boardwalk and the beach saves them from a one-star review, and they are one of the cheapest rooms in town. But if you can, avoid them. read more

You would never really suspect this property is as old as it likely is because it has been SO SPLENDIDLY MAINTAINED and improved. Kudos to the owners/managers. Very clean in my humble opinion. I often stay with larger, more expensive hotel chains and I would put a room at this motel up against them any day. We stayed in the front corner, deluxe king room and appreciated the cathedral ceiling, the natural light from the corner sliders and the open feeling. The only down side, and it's a small one, is it's proximity to the carwash across the street. If the sound of vaccums, blowers and water spray bothers you, move along. read more

My wife and i stayed here overnight about a month ago, and we were surprised how busy it was considering everything happening with the pandemic. The staff at the front desk was friendly, and the room was clean overall, making for an enjoyable experience. The walls were virtually paper thin; we heard the people next door yelling and screaming until about 3 AM. The price was fairly cheap for being on a weekend, and the experience overall was an enjoyable one. I would definitely stay here again, given the right opportunity! read more

We went into this hotel after driving from Fresno (2 1/2 hours) and wanted to check in at 4:00pm only to be told that our reservations are for November 16th. What a bunch of bologna, they sold out and bumped our room a couple of weekends because we booked on booking.com and they had a chance to make more money. The evidence was checking in right behind me, the lady said we just called and you stated you had one room left and the guy had told me he had been sold out for three weeks, not very truthful. psst! It's not really a "fireplace". It's actually a heater made to look like a fireplace. I waited til literally the last minute to get lodging at Morro Ba on the 4th of July! I was able to haggle Fireside Inn's room down to $119, which is the the cheapest single in the area. It was either the single or sleep with the stink beetles up at the Cerro Alto Campsite. I choose wisely for the FireSide Inn. You'll find all of the usual amenities including a mini-fridge. The bed was a bit soft for someone that is accustomed to sleeping on a mattress with no box spring. The thread-count was also average. I may check-in at FS Inn for future excursions in Norcal. read more

This spot! The water in tap and shower smells like mildew. The front desk clerk said that he drinks it all the time. When showering, the shower head does not turn on all the way, do half the water runs down the drain. i'm not sure which was worse, the smell of mildew/mold water or the cheap smell of the shower gel. We were upstairs with two beds. Ceilings are vaulted which makes the room feel bigger. There was ample space for 3. Window in bathroom is a plus. From window we could see the bay. Walking distance to Embarcadero, restaurants and local pubs. We didn't get housekeeping while there but were not told. Walls are VERY thin. The "ocean view" was a distant one and mainly overlooked the extremely noisy car wash across the street. We could not get the tv to work and the staff instructed us to plug in a wire which didn't work. We were not making another trip downstairs to deal with a clerk who could not hide his very obvious annoyance of being asked to help us. We had been downstairs already to try to get quarters for the coke machine which has a sign on it to get quarters from the office(they had none). All night long we heard the ice machine ? cycling water downstairs. When we complained after they emailed us for our opinion we got no response. We found out a lot of people paid less than we did and the room was clearly not a 237.00/night room. It was clean and oddly laid out spacious but a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT and we will not be staying here again nor recommending. read more

We decided to come here for a quick mini vacation, we arrive on a Friday late afternoon and we're departing on a Sunday morning. I thought our arrival we were greeted by the clerk which wasn't that friendly. She did check us in in a timely matter and let us know where room was. For the price we pay for the location we were at we received a great deal. The hotel was rundown, and can use some maintenance personnel to help out. It looks like the clerk that checked us in is also the maid and the house cleaner. The positives for this hotel is the beds were clean the restroom work very well in the air-conditioning to use some work, but the location was the best it was only two blocks from the bay about a quarter-mile from Morro Bay rock.
