We would definitely stay at Blue Sail again! The staff was so friendly! The area was definitely convenient! We liked that there was covered parking. The AC was working but a lil weak during the day when it was hot. The room was rather clean. However you can see the rust around the bars in the bathroom shower area. The shower knob was loose and it was a trick to get hot water running. There were some stains around the room. The knob of the cabinet hiding the fridge kept coming off. Everything else was awesome! Beds were comfortable and loved that there was a microwave! So easy to reheat my tea and leftovers when not feeling too well the next morning. read more

This hotel is very nice and a great location however, if you're not booking directly through them buyer beware. We booked through a third-party and needed help with checking out early due to a change of plans and they were very unhelpful. They did not work with the third-party we booked with and we're not willing to give us a refund or allow the third-party to work with us on getting a refund. So basically we were stuck paying for a hotel room we didn't use. Please be aware that you must book directly through this hotel. I was very disappointed with the lack of empathy and understanding. I will not stay there again and highly recommend you consider booking elsewhere. read more

4/5 stars for location- right in the heart of everything we wanted to be near. We had a great partial view of the rock, sturdy patio furniture, and love hearing the sea lions 3/5 stars for the room- hubby and I feel it was clean enough/ big enough, but outdated. Our room had 2 queen beds in it. They were both equally uncomfortable. Very old school springy, and not at all conducive to a restful and comfortable night sleep. The other issue was the size of the toilet and the vanity tile shelf that runs the length of the bathroom When I first saw the shelf I was like- oh that's nice for all my stuff- but if anyone in your party is not tiny, you will not enjoy this Hubby had to take tp out of holders to even have room to sit down, and had to put his arm on the ledge. He has named this the hobit toilet. We went and asked Lisa if all rooms had the same tight spaces with that shelf. She said all rooms were the same, and pointed to her boyfriend saying he doesn't fit either. We weren't expecting any breakfast- but you get a slip of paper for each morning to fill out by 10 the night before for a few take away nibbles. We didn't utilize this during our stay There was a nice enclosed observation room with a lovely view of the rock- thinking this would be nice if it was too cold on the patio, or if you invited friends over, or were staying here with friends, and didn't want to visit/share some drinks in your hotel room. The furniture in it wasn't that comfortable, so thinking one wouldn't sit there too long The room has a very tiny fridge- think college dorm and a microwave tucked away inside the dresser. Room has a Keurig in it- Lisa said just come by the front desk anytime we wanted more pods or tea. She asked us if we wanted maid service while we were here. We said we didn't and that we would keep the do not disturb sign out. Lisa said she would let housekeeping know, and to feel free to ask for towels at anytime There is no ac, and 1 tiny fan. The first night we were so hot, it's better if we keep the slider open and get the breeze and the songs of the sea lions We didn't have any problems with parking our whole visit- we were here in October during the off season. The most amazing and my absolute favorite place to stay in Morro Bay! Overlooking The Embarcadero, the rock, the 3 stacks and all the incredible wildlife you can see and hear from your room. Everything is in walking distance, the rock, all the restaurants and shopping it's perfect! The view from the rooms is just incredible, ocean and bay views, you can hear the seals and otters from your room. So otters, otters, otters you will be overwhelmed by these cutest little guys. I have been staying at hotels for at least 48 years of traveling . This hotel by far has the worst hotel front desk management. First the front desk person was hustling for $50 for an early check in . Told her that this was just an overnight stay and I will come back at 2:30 ( and it wasn't ready). Then I complained that I booked an ocean view room based on hotels.com "upgraded price". and these guys are putting me across the street . then the manager had the gall to say that will be an upgraded rate! it is all about making the fast buck with these two women ! worst stay ever! read more

My husband and I were on a road trip up the coast, and we spent the first night in Morro Bay.  The room was nice.  I especially loved the long counter in the bathroom where I could put all of my toiletries.  There was a fridge and microwave, as well as a coffee maker.  It is in a prime location right by the Embarcadero.  It is walking distance to so many restaurants and stores.  We checked in across the street, which was a little odd.  They provide a grab and go breakfast and let you choose which items you'd like.  We chose orange juice, string cheese, granola bars, and a muffin.  The muffin was hard, but everything else was decent.  We enjoyed our stay in Morro Bay! read more

We came at Christmas time, we usually stay in the other wing that is above Embarcadero, but I would defiantly stay in room 307 again. I loved the added touch that there was a small Christmas Tree on the desk. Rooms are clean, staff are attentive, I wish they would go back to the breakfast they used to have. read more

Perfectly located on the main strip of Morro Bay. Just a short walk and you have access to the waterfront. The staff was very friendly! The room was nice and clean. My only dislike was that the bed was a bit too firm for my liking. That's my only complaint. Theu offer a free breakfast which is a simple selection of prepackaged items from a local shop. The hotel is also located on a hill so if you have issues with walking up or down inclines, I would suggest driving down the block to access the shopping and restrestaurants. read more

Excellent basic stay in a convenient location with covered parking. Front desk staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Daily breakfast snack bags were a nice perk. Room was clean and comfortable. If you find this through trip advisor or hotels.com be advised the archery range is long closed but there is so much to do around here that we wouldn't have had time anyway. Our stay was just fine , the room we stayed in looks just fine .. the only peoblem was they charged me another $20.00 for something which i do not know and they won't even informed us...eventhough i fully paid our stay from PRICELINE... The lady at the front office when we checked in and asked us for our ID and credit card was very cold . Great location, good price, well appointed, very comfy bed, and helpful and friendly staff. We had views of Morro rock and the Embarcadero, beautiful! Upon reserving the room we mentioned that one of our party has asthmatic reactions to strong smells or cleaning products. They were very supportive of that; we arrived to a clean, yet fresh smelling room as they'd aired it out for us! :0) The breakfast is really just a few snacks in a bag, a friendly perk. We skipped on the second day (opting for fresh coffee and pastries from a local bakery). Although, I must say, the cheese sticks and organic milk choice were a nice addition to the sweets on their menu (you pick two to you like and a bag will be ready for you at the front desk in the morning). We got a room that had a connecting door, the person in the connecting room talked (and later snored) loudly. We heard it all, not sure if it because of connecting doors or not. The next day the receptionist said if ever anyone is loud they will call the room and casually mention that they'd been walking by and heard them. The noisy neighbors checked out so it was a non-issue the second night, but now we know for next time. [Although, one can't do much about snoring except set our phone to rain storm sounds and it did the trick of muffling that first night ;0) read more

We recently stayed at the Blue Sail Inn while my husband & his friends participated in the Lighthouse Century. We reserved an Ocean View w/king bed. The room was large & comfortable with a great view of Morro Rock. The bed was a bit soft for us but we only stayed one night. The ladies in the lobby were very friendly & helpful. Breakfast consisted of a choice of two items + a juice that you picked up in the lobby at a pre-designated time set by you. We went with the Edna's pastry, which unfortunately, were inedible (very unusual for Edna's but they really were horrible). The location is right-off the Embarcadero but still very quiet. A quick walk to places like Dorn's or the Hofbrau. The building is secure, accessed only by your room card, which we appreciated. read more

Front desk staff very nice (day shift, not so much the night shift lady), room was clean, plenty of parking. My only complaint is that they nickel and dime you for extra services. They charged $50 for early check in, and a minimum of $50 for late check out (price went up significantly for a later check out that I initially inquired about). I was in town for the triathlon and timing was tight to get back to hotel by 11am. This is the first time I've ever been charged at a hotel for a late check. Great place to stay but won't be going back because of these added fees. read more

My husband and I stayed here for two nights. It was a wonderful experience! Location was perfect, right accross the street from the Embarcadero. Everything was within walking distance. So close that rather than wait in short line for public restroom, was quicker to walk back to our room. And having private balcony with view of harbor was nice. Not a new, fancy, 5 star hotel but was perfect for our needs. Front desk staff were very personable and helpful. Gave great recommendations and answered questions we had regarding stores, restaurants, etc. I will say, their bagged, continental breakfast was disappointing but Dorns (notorious breakfast spot) is right next door. When we checked in, we were not told that 'due to Covid no breakfast will be served' they had us go back down across the street to fill out a form of some choices of pastries and fruit. No coffee anywhere except in our room which we had to make only 4 packets of coffee provided, 2 regular, 2 decaf. Coffee machine did not work. Also, they asked us if we wanted our room cleaned. We stayed 2 nights in this property. Front desk Staff were consistently pleasant. Cleanliness is just ok. We found 1 long hair in the bathroom rail, ewww. Aside from that, the rest of the room (121) seems clean. There's not much parking inside the property grounds, but a lot of spaces for parking along the street. We didn't realize that there's no A/C until we're about to sleep. We ended up opening our sliding door to let the cool air in, problem with this, is that we can hear everything that's happening along the street, including the Otters on the waters . The bathroom shower had a very, very low pressure. We hated that. One thing that we liked/loved, is that the location is excellent! It's literally close to all the restaurants, marina and shops. They offer complimentary breakfast (packed: orange or apple juice, milk, some individually packed scones, cheese). Because of the pleasant Staff and convenience of the location, I'm giving them 2stars, but if we're around the area, we won't be staying here again. read more

The Mr. & I spent the weekend here and had the BEST location! We were in walking distance from the Embarcadero, all the shops, restaurants, activities, etc. The wharf had activities like whale watching tours, kayak renting, and lots of public access to watch the many otters hanging out and playing. The room was very spacious and smelled clean. The length of stay was not long enough to have daily cleaning, which was perfect, especially during COVID. I didn't have to worry about other people in my personal space. We were next to the office and vending machines. There was also a little sitting area in the corner to enjoy the city sights. We could see Morro Rock from our room and it was a short drive to Morro Bay State Park and enjoy the city from that side. The hotel is split into two sides of the street. The office side has very limited parking, maybe 6 spaces, two of those were handicapped. The remaining hotel rooms and parking garage were on the other side of the street. The hotel offered a "Grab-N-Go" breakfast which consisted a drink and item per guest available from 7:30 -11:30AM. You filled out your card with your room number and the time you'd be by to pick it up. Very simple. As a guest, they also provided free WiFi access w/provided password. We left L.A. because of the Eaton Fire. We needed a room with a mini-fridge. The woman at the front desk, Lisa, was so nice and understanding with our situation. She gave us a great room at a great price. Also, a little gray cat supervised the entire interaction to make sure everything was on the up and up! :) We choose a back room because we wanted a quiet place to rest. It was perfect. Our room was clean, quiet, and dark. Everything work perfectly. We had no problems. Overall, we would certainly return and recommend it to others! read more

I reserved a deluxe King Suit for 5 days for my anniversary. The place was perfect. Absolutely perfect. Our room had a balcony with a stunning view of the rock. We sat on it drinking coffee and talking for hours. The hotel is centrally. We made the .9 mile walk to the rock a couple of times a day. We got in our car once to go to the grocery store and once so my husband could bring his surfboard to go surfing at the rock. The hotel staff was incredible. Lisa at the front desk gave us great tips on places to go. The room was clean and very comfortable. With a refrigerator and coffee maker, we were set. The trip to Morro Bay was the perfect way to disconnect from our lives and really enjoy each other. We will be back! read more

Very disappointed in what has always been our go-to Morro Bay getaway. My husband and I have stayed at the Blue Sail Inn several stays a year over the last 20+ years. We've stayed as many nights as 8 during one stay, but usually 2-4 nights each visit. We almost always stay in the Deluxe King Bay View rooms for the convenience and the views. We even purchased our own set of folding bar stools for the deck when during several months a few years back the tall chairs had been removed for safety concerns. We've stayed loyal to the Blue Sail and have always felt the loyalty went both ways in the consistent attention to detail, cleanliness and friendliness provided by the staff. The week of July 24th we had 4 nights reserved. We were happy to be assigned to Rm 111. On July 26th my husband started exhibiting symptoms consistent with Covid around 2pm. I immediately packed us up and informed Lisa at the front desk I thought he had Covid and we were vacating the room. She thanked me for being honest about his illness and stated she would only charge me for the first two nights. I told her how much I appreciated her offer and thanked her, then we left. The next day I received the emailed receipt of our stay and we were charged for the third night. I called the office and was told because the room couldn't be turned over in time we were charged the third night. I've thought about that response a lot since then. There was no consideration of our long standing history of choosing to spend thousands of our dollars to repeatedly stay there, or the consideration I gave to the cleaning staff in alerting them to exercise caution. I'm more than disappointed. Repeat customers are repeat for a reason. Management should honor Lisa's offer, regardless of the turn over time of the room. The human concern and class act Lisa demonstrated should be commended and extended to us. We did the right thing and so did Lisa. I emailed management 5 days ago with my concerns and have yet to receive any kind of response. read more

For a moderate priced get-away it was a perfect fit for us. Location is great for walking around to the restaurants, stores, beaches, sights and more. We drove around 25 minutes to Cambria, had coffee and walked around the village. Beautiful area! From there we drove another 15 minutes to San Simeon. We've seen Heart Castle before so didn't go there while in San Simeon. The elephant seals are awesome to watch there. Lots of good hiking around the estuaries and hills around town and in the Morro Bay State Park. Our room had a nice view of the harbor and Morro Rock. The room was clean and bed was comfortable. Good size, too. Updated just enough. The people who worked there were great. Very helpful with hints on where to eat, sightsee, shop, directions. Really lovely folks. Great find! read more

I wanted to plan a special mom/daughter trip to Morro Bay. I chose the Blue Sail Inn because we could get a room with a balcony and a great view. I reserved their "deluxe king ocean view" room because it had a balcony and "stunning panoramic views". When I reserved the room, I mentioned I was wanting a great view of the ocean and Morro Rock. When we were checking in (just after check-in time) I asked if our room had a great view and was assured that we would be getting a perfect panoramic view of the ocean, Morro Rock, and the beautiful sunsets. When we got to the room, we had a great view of a TREE, unless we stood in the far corner of the balcony, where we could get a view of the rock. This room was almost $60/night more expensive than the room without the "view". Also, we interacted with 2 different people in the office. One was nice (but lied about the view), and the other was not friendly at all. I suggest not wasting your money on the rooms with the "view" at Blue Sail Inn. I have stayed at The Landing in the past and been much happier. read more

The staff couldn't be nicer. Anything you need, they're there for you. They also offer a bag of to go breakfast that was perfect to start your day! You're within walking distance of the embarcadero, shops and restaurants. I would highly recommend the Blue Sail Inn. read more

Blue sail inn For $500 for 2 nights not worth it at all They do NOT have air conditioning in all rooms. they have a fan which means the room is stuffy or humid. The room was okay some randomn strange red hair on our pillow, kinda gross, the view is nice, the balcony was covered in bird poop. They do not have a place to eat, they give you brown bag breakfast. The young girl working at the desk doesn't want to be working there, doesnt welcome or accommodate at all. We came a little early i had asked for early check-in advance, which you'll have to pay for if they let you checking early, they said i should call day of. I got called around 8am they said call back at 1pm We got into town around 12:40pm. I called again on the way. The Room wasn't available yet. I asked if we could leave our bags/luggage while we go walk around and wait. She acted like I asked for her first born. She said she'd call us when housekeeping was done with our room never happened. We came back at 3pm still waited. A new lady came to work. The younger one left. The new lady was super nice and accommodating and got our rooms taken care of immediately. The next night, I later asked for late check out cause our tain back home isn't till 4. I called 3 times from 720pm to 820pm. No one picked up. I walked to the office the door said be right back. I rang two different door bells. The young girl was working again. Unlocked the door I asked for later check out and she gave me the same answer, call/ask in the morning. I went the next morning, a different person was there and she was very nice and besides that she did offer a late check-out, I did pay an extra $50 for it, but it was worth it for us. Monday 10am loud construction pounding. When I settled the bill they were gonna charge for early checkin until I let them know we never got out rooms early. So please check with the office before you leave. They did remove the charge, but don't assume. read more

I took my family who was visiting for Thanksgiving up Highway 1 while always looking for an excuse to escape to the serene town of Morro Bay. I had found this little family-owned inn online and am so thankful. Upon our late night check-in, Melanie was so welcoming and still smiling with plenty of tips on what to see in the area. Since it was a chilly night, she looked into finding us a room with a fireplace, which remained only available to king bed rooms--unfortunately not doable given my group of four. The room price was affordable for a double queen bed room with an outdoor patio providing spectacular views of the bay and morro rock. We watched the storms rolls in with waves splashing over the breakwater. Blue Sail Inn is conveniently located right at the top of the staircase that ventures directly down to the Embarcadero with excellent restaurants, quirky shops and unobstructed views. Keep in mind that the inn has two separate buildings, both two stories but one being across the street from the check-in office and breakfast room. The room itself was nothing spectacular, yet clean and comfortable. I liked having a heat lamp/fan combination in the bathroom. Breakfast was continental-style and complementary featuring fruit, pastries, cereal, coffee, juices and teas. I must mention the best part being an automatic pancake maker. I gave in to my carb cravings and ate four--tis the Holiday season! Don't miss out on sitting in the communal corner Serenity room on the lower floor of the main hotel building that has screened-in windows and the best views of the morro rock. After all, that's why most people stop in Morro Bay. I will keep Blue Sail Inn on my list for the next time I'm in "the Bay" (not to be confused with San Francisco). read more

The BEST in Morro Bay! We stayed 3 nights, over Memorial Day weekend. Deluxe King Ocean View (upper building) We will stay again 100% VIEW = Balconies are fantastic and roomy. We had a bar style table and chairs (so you can see over the balcony). View of the sunset and Morro Rock is awesome. OK, so the glare is blinding for an hour in the afternoon, but, so what? The room is laid out very well. Plenty of space to spread out. There are countertops; a desk; a buffet(?) credenza(?) sideboard(?) that contains the microwave and refrigerator; and a large tiled shelf in the bathroom. Bed is comfy. Bathroom sink is separate from the bathroom (yay!) The Mr. could shave while I am in the shower. Shower has a curved shower curtain rod. A minor detail, but, it felt SO spacious. Does not smell. Does not smell like a hotel or a motel. Does not smell like industrial cleaners or fragrance. Clean. Very clean. I used to work Disneyland Custodial, where they inspected your work multiple times per shift to see if you left watermarks on the tile or toilets, using a flashlight. I approve of Blue Sail Inn custodial staff. STAFF = AWESOME! We eat many small meals. Pretty normal for us to take half a restaurant meal in a to-go box. The fridge in the room was not working. Staff replaced it ASAP. We did not lose any of the food we were saving. I had questions about the other rooms, for next time. The layout, and room options were explained to me (I can't remember her name, sorry). PARKING = Plenty! Easy access! Spacious parking spots! This hotel has 2 buildings. The main/large parking lot is at the upper building. You can pull up to the curb right next to the elevator. Access is pretty darn easy for standard rooms, but if you have a wheelchair, walker, cane, or whatever, they do have several ADA rooms in the lower building. Nice! You can pull up right in front of your room! LOCATION = Excellent! It is one tiny street uphill from the Embarcadero. You get to avoid all the pedestrians. Perfect. It's only a half mile walk to a shopping center with a major grocery store. Everything we needed/wanted was in walking distance (for us). ***Morro Bay has lots of inclines & crazy sidewalks as you head uphill, away from the Bay. This has nothing to do with the hotel, it's just how Morro Bay is laid out. There were numerous people in wheelchairs around town, but keep that in mind if you don't do well walking/wheeling on uneven surfaces. QUIET = Very. We could hear our neighbors chatting when we were all out on our balconies at the same time. We could not hear anything when we were in our room, even with the sliding glass balcony door open. LOL, the keyed door at the entrance from the street to the stairs in the upper building SLAMS shut, but you can't hear it when in a room or hallway. *Cascade oscillating fan included = excellent if your spouse/partner snores....... Sorry. No photos. Too busy enjoying the view. OVERALL = Stay here. Just don't stay here when we want to stay here, because I will be very sad. read more

We have stayed here multiple times...usually with a good experience. This time...not so much. I booked a room with a view of the rock. The only view that we had was of a construction crew using jackhammers and earth moving equipment. Not sure why they decided to not honor my request (and, what I paid for) but our time on the Central Coast was a major letdown.
