Not a bad place to stay at. Decent safe stay close to the walking strip. Everything is near by. I walked in the evening at night to go get a coffee at buns wich by the way is the my favorite. But the hotel is at a good location affordable and easy to book online. Beds suck but it will do for the night, also I took a shower and the water was warm n had good pressure. By the way it get packed. I was surprised of how full the inn was at the end of the night. Maybe bc it's kinda small. But either way good in all my views. They have ice available I stocked up my ice chest before leaving the next day. read more

charged us a premium for a handycapped room and TV did not work. We don't own a TV at home and we veg out on the road. NBA playoff was on for the night and TV did not work. They gave us a discount of 5% which did not cover cost of drinks at a bar to watch the game for three hours. We could have gone to Motel 6 and saved over $300. read more

For the price and quality, Morro Bay Sandpiper Inn is worth it! They are not only affordable but the staff are very accommodating. There's one designated parking spot for each hotel guest. Their rooms are full furnished and supply lots of towels, thick bedding and blankets. I loved the window views of Morro Rock too! It's a bit far from the Morro Bay Pier and the dining scene, but it's quiet and peaceful! read more

This is a small family run motel, everything is a little quirky like it has a wind up heater but I think it's cute! The manager is super nice and accommodating and the room is comfy with basic amenities. I have honestly really enjoyed my stay here and would definitely book again! read more

This is an older motel that has been recently remodeled and updated. It is clean, well cared for and maintained. The staff is wonderful and the maids were helpful, cheerful and kind. We appreciated the nice chairs and table, firm, comfortable king size bed, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, and good flat screen TV. The shower was spotlessly clean as was all of the bathroom. Love the separation of the sink and mirror so that each of us were able to use the facilities at the same time :-) Loved the 'beachy' colors, heavy curtains that blocked light very well, and all the dresser drawers came in handy too. BEWARE! DISHONEST, horrible management, specifically the front desk manager. Made a reservation here in July 2025 as a pitstop as I was driving down to SoCal to care for my father who was undergoing cancer treatment/chemo. I had to cancel because my rescue dog, who was traveling with me, died before I could make the drive down. Called the motel and spoke to the front desk manager, who assured me that I could cancel and rebook at a later date (essentially credit for a future stay). Called back to do so today as directed, and the manager refuses to uphold his promise. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Rude and totally dismissive. Very disappointed and could not rate a motel lower for their treatment of customers. Rude, dishonest, swindlers. Spend your hard-earned money at an honest establishment, not here. This inn is located very close to the Embarcadero, restaurants, and shops. A very convenient place to stay for a few nights with a good price. I really like the interior colors of the room. It feels relaxing. I only have one complaint; they need more lighting. As soon as I step inside the door, there's a light on that side of the wall, but no light on the other. It gets quite dark and have to open the blinds to let some natural light in. I don't like turning on multiple lamps, so installing a light on the opposite wall would be nice, or put the light above the bed instead of the side. Great stay though! Left my prescription drive wear dark glasses on the night stand. As soon as I remembered I called and told the front desk person exactly where I left them. He said they weren't there. It's not so much the cost (they are over $400) it's the fact I am unable to see without them. They are no good to anyone else and SO necessary for me. Could they have been mistaken for ordinary dime store dark glasses? Maybe, however, no excuse to keep something that a guest forgot and knew exactly where she forgot them. Not honest. Seriously inconvenienced me. This was during Christmas and still haven't been able to afford replacing them. read more

We have been staying at the Sandpiper for over 12 years and overall have been pleased with our stays. The prices are reasonable and the facilities are basically clean. The staff is friendly as well. It's an older motel and the bed/matress furnished was worn out, which didn't make for a good night's sleep ! They need to invest in new mattresses! Otherwise, not bad... read more

You get what you pay for! I booked a room here thinking that I got a steal since it was so cheap. Little did I know I was disappointed. Upon entering the room, the room had a strong stench of bleach. It was very nauseating and I had to open the windows fully. The floors were very dirty as well despite it being a new room. The bed was not comfortable at all and left a dent when I sat on it. It never bounced back up. I had to sleep in a weird position to avoid the dent in the bed. The room is very small and outdated. If you are cold, beware of turning on the heater as it smelled like someone had a bad case of the farts! The walls are very thin as well. I don't recommend. read more

Disliked · Room was horrible! Mattress was so lumpy and worn out couldn't find a comfortable spot! Upon entering the room we had to open all the windows and leave the door open for about 20 mins to air our the strong stench of bleach. The floor was disgustingly filthy! After returning from a couple hours out, a shower was going to feel wonderful! I went to get into the shower when I noticed the bottom of my feet left a dirt mark on the bath mat, when I looked at the bottom of my feet they were literally black. I ask my wife to check hers as well, Hers were black as well. I took the bath mat and shuffled across the floor and the mat was black beyond belief. When I went to show the owner the towel and condition of the floor he said to go and pack my stuff and leave now he would give me a refund!!! I told him there were no other vacancies or I would! He didn't even offer another room but did say that when maintenance came in the morning he would ask them to clean the room. Then he told me to wear shoes in the room. He said it wasn't dirty that the maids used an oil based cleaner! The next morning I showed the maids the issue and she said she can't do anything about it as the owner gives them 20 mins per room to clean. I then asked what they clean the floors with and she said the owner only allows a little water and a rag.... When I asked why the room smell so strong of bleach she said because owner have their pets stay and the bleach was the only way to get rid of the pee smell. I would not recommend this place to my enemy. If you want to enjoy your visit to Morro Bay STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!! You have been warned!!! read more

The property is more of a motel than a hotel and really needs updating. The motel was clean and quiet, but it's very dated and could use some serious renovations. It's not luxurious at all, but it has the basics: a microwave, TV, soap, and toiletries. There's no air conditioning, just an old heating unit, which is quite outdated. The motel has two levels, but there's no elevator, so keep that in mind if you have heavy luggage or mobility issues. However, if you're just looking for a place to sleep, the location is fantastic. It's within walking distance of the main area and has free parking. You're just a short stroll from the waterfront, shops, and restaurants, so there's no need to drive. If convenience is what you're after, this place is perfect. read more

Older man behind front desk was lazy, rude and disrespectful. Will not stay here ever again because of him. He wasn't friendly or hospitable in the least. He was extremely rude and unaccommodating when we tried to confirm our previously promised request for a ground level room which was unavailable upon check in. The next day my husband and I tried again. Finally after shouting at us and calling us "selfish" he put us in what I believe is probably the worst room they have. It was tucked away in the "time out" corner with bad lighting, bad/ loose electrical outlets that our cords wouldn't stay plugged into. Multiple strands of stray hairs throughout especially in shower/ tub (pictured). Rooms are very run down/ outdated, beds are extremely uncomfortable and draft coming through gaps in main door. Room felt like a dirty, dingy dungeon. Also not enough parking we were forced to park overnight along the street even though property claims there's one space per room but apparently they don't enforce this. read more

We were in town visiting family and attending a wedding in Santa Margarita; however we chose to stay close to the coast. Sand Piper was located in a very convenient location. Management was friendly and the property was kept very clean. Would definitely stay again if the occasion ever came back up. read more

This place was not the best and probably the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on. We had two beds and didn't get a good night sleep for the two nights spent there. Pillows were just as bad. This is the very first review I've ever given a motel. After this visit to the Sandpiper, I felt it was my duty to subscribe and comment on Yelp. The owner was as nice as pie when we first got there. After I told him the issues I had the next morning with the room, he flipped his script and became very rude and borderline mean. Then when I asked for a 30 minute later check-out once I got back to the room, he started raising his voice and being combative in his talking. The thing is, I was completely nice to this guy and didn't even ask for any refund for the issues we endured. We dealt with a clogged shower, drywall powder that covered my wife in the bathroom and black mold was heavily apparent. I never complained about it but the smell of pine sol was really bad when entering, the people above us were dancing all night, furniture was very old, ripped and nasty! If your reading this PLEASE AVOID the Sandpiper Inn! You can't say you weren't warned! read more

My college student son was trapped in Morro Bay during the recent flooding that closed the highway. The gentleman at the desk was extremely helpful even giving my son some food as the power was out throughout the city and no restaurants were open. He also gave him a discount on the room under the circumstances. This is an individual with integrity as other places were price gouging folks trapped during the storm. The room was very tidy & clean and the property appears well maintained. If you like cold showers give this hotel a try. My wife and I stayed at the Morro Bay Sandpiper Inn on Sunday and Monday nights. We checked into room #1 on Sunday afternoon. On Monday Morning we tried to take a shower but there was no hot water. We called the front office and were told to "let the water run". We turned on the water in the sink and shower and a little over eight minutes later the hot water arrived in our shower. On Tuesday morning we got up early and once again discovered no hot water available. We had to run the shower and sink for over 16 minutes to get hot water. When we asked the property manager about the issue he said this problem has been around for MANY MONTHS and the owner is aware of it but has decided not to do anything about it. The hotel has 30+ rooms and if each room has to run the water for many minutes it must lead to an incredible amount of wasted water. We don't think a hotel should be allowed to operate without offering hot water in a reasonable time frame. We will not be returning to the Sandpiper Inn but we hope the owner will correct this condition for the health and safety of future hotel guests as well as the conservation of water for the community. read more

Nice location, pleasant decoration and clean. Showers had hot water, but the heater/AC wall unit didn't work so we were freezing in January. Brrrr. The front desk advised we "keep playing with it" but otherwise wouldn't come check on it or let us move to another room. We wanted one bed but got two and they weren't very comfortable or warm enough. I hope they can improve it, it could be a very nice place to stay with a few upgrades. read more

We've stayed at the Sandpiper Inn while visiting Morro Bay on a few occasions by default. On our last visit, bed bugs bit us throughout the night. Shower never got hot and I notice black mold at the base of the walls in the bathroom. my wife fell ill in the morning and we asked for a late check out. At 1st, the owner gave us 20 minutes past check out for free. When I ask if an hour would be OK, he turn bitter and said the room was booked and required additional 25.00 + tax and if we stayed a minute lon. charge us a extra night. I booked a room in Feb. 2023 for one night (6.17.23) for a College Graduation. it was confirmed and at the last minute the Sandpiper Inn cancelled my confirmed reservation for no reason. Morro Bay's choices of motels are limited to mostly these small, older, exterior door, park in front of your room type places. Having said that, this is one of the better one's in town. I always rate motels by rate and cleanliness, etc. For what I paid (around $50) this place is 5 stars for the area. I'll be staying here again. Good; Price, clean, great location. Highly recommend!!! This is an adorable, clean motel within easy walking distance of the waterfront/restaurants/shops, about a mile and half from Morro Rock (which you can see from the motel). The neighborhood is nice and quiet. Great customer service touches: a welcome email and map the day before arrival; requesting how often you need room service (some places don't offer it at all due to COVID); and a post-visit thank you email. Gentleman working there was extremely friendly. Basic amenities and toiletries (FYI, no lotion, and BYO conditioner if, like me, you have unruly hair; those 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner combos don't work for me!). Water pressure was kind of weak. Plenty of free self-parking. They don't offer breakfast or snacks (just coffee maker in room) but that was okay because the room had a small fridge and microwave - and the rates were unbeatable. There were many issues with this hotel. First, the cost for bringing a dog is not advertised until you check in and is higher than other places( $40). Second the room that we got did not have a closet and we were staying for a few days. Third, the soda machine only had sugar sodas and no water nor diet free.
