This is an older motel that has been recently remodeled and updated. It is clean, well cared for and maintained. The staff is wonderful and the maids were helpful, cheerful and kind. We appreciated the nice chairs and table, firm, comfortable king size bed, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, and good flat screen TV. The shower was spotlessly clean as was all of the bathroom. Love the separation of the sink and mirror so that each of us were able to use the facilities at the same time :-) Loved the 'beachy' colors, heavy curtains that blocked light very well, and all the dresser drawers came in handy too. We usually stay here at the Sandpiper Inn and likely will again in the future.

This inn is located very close to the Embarcadero, restaurants, and shops. A very convenient place to stay for a few nights with a good price. I really like the interior colors of the room. It feels relaxing. I only have one complaint; they need more lighting. As soon as I step inside the door, there's a light on that side of the wall, but no light on the other. It gets quite dark and have to open the blinds to let some natural light in. I don't like turning on multiple lamps, so installing a light on the opposite wall would be nice, or put the light above the bed instead of the side. Great stay though! They have a refrigerator, microwave, and TV. When you check out, you drop off the card keys in the key box outside the office.

Vent for the fan rusted and very loud.

Disliked · Room was horrible! Mattress was so lumpy and worn out couldn't find a comfortable spot! Upon entering the room we had to open all the windows and leave the door open for about 20 mins to air our the strong stench of bleach. The floor was disgustingly filthy! After returning from a couple hours out, a shower was going to feel wonderful! I went to get into the shower when I noticed the bottom of my feet left a dirt mark on the bath mat, when I looked at the bottom of my feet they were literally black. I ask my wife to check hers as well, Hers were black as well. I took the bath mat and shuffled across the floor and the mat was black beyond belief. When I went to show the owner the towel and condition of the floor he said to go and pack my stuff and leave now he would give me a refund!!! I told him there were no other vacancies or I would! He didn't even offer another room but did say that when maintenance came in the morning he would ask them to clean the room. Then he told me to wear shoes in the room. He said it wasn't dirty that the maids used an oil based cleaner! The next morning I showed the maids the issue and she said she can't do anything about it as the owner gives them 20 mins per room to clean. I then asked what they clean the floors with and she said the owner only allows a little water and a rag.... When I asked why the room smell so strong of bleach she said because owner have their pets stay and the bleach was the only way to get rid of the pee smell. I would not recommend this place to my enemy. If you want to enjoy your visit to Morro Bay STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!! You have been warned!!!

Late check in due to room not being ready. Hot water took awhile and water pressure for shower was poor.

Many reviewers mentioned how clean the property was and how comfortable the beds were, so I came in with high expectations, especially since it has a 5-star rating on Yelp. Upon arrival, I was greeted by who I believe was the owner. She was incredibly kind and took the time to explain how everything worked, including the air conditioning and refrigerator. From what I could tell, she and her husband are the primary people running the inn, and they were both wonderful hosts. Throughout my stay, they checked in to make sure everything was going well, which I really appreciated. When I walked into the room, the reviews were absolutely right. Everything was spotless--from the bedding and carpet to the bathroom. I was also pleasantly surprised by the shower's water pressure. At many hotels it's either too weak or inconsistent, but here it was just right. The bed was also very comfortable, making it easy to get a good night's sleep. This isn't a luxury hotel, but it does exactly what it promises, especially for the price. It's clean, comfortable, and conveniently located near downtown and the pier. If you're looking for an affordable and well-maintained place to stay in the area, I would highly recommend this inn.

First of all, it's affordable, which means more cash left over for fine scotch and local adventures. The rooms are quiet, clean, and refreshingly minimal--none of that unnecessary hullabaloo. Just the essentials, delivered with class. And let me tell you about the "Magic Fingers" bed feature. Great Odin's raven! Nothing says luxury quite like a soothing massage after a long day of strolling around town. Then, when you emerge from the shower like a majestic sea lion, there's a heat lamp waiting to warm you up. It's the kind of innovation that makes America proud. The customer service? Fast, friendly, and more dependable than Baxter guarding a wheel of cheese. The staff made me feel welcome from the moment I arrived. Location-wise, this place is in a prime spot. It's close to all the worthwhile shops and cafés, making it easy to enjoy the best of Morro Bay without having to embark on some epic quest. Would I stay here again? You stay classy, Sundown Inn. We got consistently good sleep here. Breakfast had decent food including kielbasa one day. Access to CA-1 is easy and it's not far to drive to shopping, Morro Rock and Morro Bay. You can tell they've put effort into keeping it fresh and comfortable. The staff? Genuinely friendly and helpful - great recommendations, warm greetings, and they actually acknowledge you as a member (which, let's be honest, doesn't always happen everywhere). Also...major bonus points for being dog-friendly. My pup was living his best life here. Now, let's talk breakfast. Or...my lack of breakfast. If you're plant-based, your options are basically: * Toast * Fruit * Plain oatmeal (if you're feeling adventurous) Meanwhile, my dog was over there enjoying what I like to call "my breakfast." Day one: cheese omelette. Day two: scrambled eggs and potatoes. Honestly, he was thrilled. I get that it's a standard hotel breakfast setup, but in 2026, throwing in one solid vegan option doesn't feel like a wild ask. Even a simple oatmeal bar or plant-based protein would go a long way. That said, everything else about the stay was great - clean, comfortable, welcoming, and easy. I'd absolutely stay here again... I'll just plan to bring my own breakfast.
