Many great dinners and memories here! Looking forward to many more to come. Coming up to our "up north" house, you either cook/grill at home, or the pickings of restaurants a reasonable distance away are pretty slim. FireSide though, is a fantastic option. Typically we either order/eat in when we arrive to our place in Port Austin or if the weather is rainy, we'll order/eat in here as well. The place looked slightly different when we started coming here around 2018. They continue to remodel as ownership changes, improvements to food items and beverages, and overall quality of experience. On a Friday or Saturday night in the heart of summer, this place can get pretty slammed with people. However, it's 100% worth it. Their pizza is amazing! It's hard to remember if I've ever eaten anything else here in the 10+ times we've come, but I may have gotten a burger or sandwich once or twice. But like I said, their pizza is the bomb! When you walk in, it's been renovated a bit but the rest of the place has that rustic, "up northy" look to it! read more

At the risk of alerting others to this gem, the Fireside is our go-to when we're at nearby Oak Beach and need a good meal at a reasonable price. Great crab special! They get busier toward 6 p.m., so arrive early to avoid a wait for a table, although the restaurant has ample capacity. Note the limited days and hours they're open so you're not disappointed. read more

Rounding up to a 3. Interior was clean, at least at the bar where we sat. We attempted two nights in a row to get pizza and breadsticks to go, first night we left as it was going to be 90 minutes. It is a holiday weekend so we gave some grace. Went again today, not advised of time frame but after ordering learned that they had 42 pizzas ordered in the past few minutes. We opted to keep our order in and just had a couple of drinks at the bar while we waited. We waited close to 50 minutes. I understand that it can be difficult to hire staff in small town, that is when management and the owners need to step up especially over a holiday weekend. The staff and bartender were over worked. Both of our drinks were not correct, no we did not say anything to the bartender, she was insanely overworked and we just dealt. The pizza once we ate it was fine, cheesy with a good handle. The dough nothing special. The breadsticks are "Olive Gardenish". This not so hot review is solely aimed at management and the owner. If you were not there supporting your team this entire weekend, shame on you. read more

Wow their pizza is sooo dang good. They don't skip on toppings that's for sure! I ordered the meat lovers pizza and it was so filling. The hubs ordered the baked spaghetti and said it was also excellent. Tons of leftovers! Hot dog bun with shaved beef. Cold onion rings. Service lacking. Had to ask staff behind scenes for carry out boxes. And went to bar to get drinks waitress forgot that had been sitting there. So...they were really busy when we arrived...we did get seated within 5 minutes, but there looked to be only 3 waitresses in the dining area....they were very busy and doing their best. We did wait for 10-15 mins to put in drink orders with another 10 or so minutes until they arrived. The waitresses were really trying....so, be prepared to wait a bit We had perch dinners...very good! The rest of our group had pasta and sandwiches...they said it was OK. Bring your own bottled water if you're not used to well water with iron in it....the taste can be of putting for some. Also...4% surcharge to use a credit card here....so, come with cash if you don't want the extra 4% tacked onto your bill Lastly, the Port Awesome is a lovely drink! read more

It has now been 2 hrs that 7 of us have been sitting in this place . We were seated 11/4 hrs ago still waiting for our food. Waited 1/2 hr for drinks WATER...Keep hearing it's a new system here but COME ON it's new owners and holiday weekend ....only come here if you are desperate like we were. Still no food and they continue to seat people . One star is even too much. The owner just told us if she talks to the cooks it'll slow down them down. Very pleased with our experience here. We are Vegan and so many times when we are in little towns we are stuck with iceberg lettuce salads! This place did a great job accommodating us. So we've been going to the Fireside Inn for years now, and usually it's been good - good food, good drinks, cold beer, great ambiance. That has changed. Now, you need to understand that it's under new management and we visited on Saturday of basically their second week. Still, it was a total disappointment. So the drinks are still okay - the bartender made me a fine Kentucky Mule, and my beer was cold enough, but everything else about my experience was bad. First, the service was slow. I mean really slow, like post covid and can't get enough workers slow. I don't know if that's the reason, but it wasn't like it was super busy either. Second, my steak quesadilla came out with chicken, and it was cold. The chips and queso? the queso was congealed on the top. All in all a bad meal that i had a bite of and was done. My girlfriend? She had the steak and onion. Yeah, had no onion on it. How do you make a steak and onion (it's in the title!) and forget the onion? Even granddaughter Maddie complained but I forget what. Only one person at our table enjoyed their food. And don't forget...it took forever. So...we'll be back, will give it a second chance, you know, growing pains, but boy, what a let down. read more

Despite rising gas prices, I still love road trips. I always have, and hopefully always will. I have fond summer memories of driving up the coast of Saginaw Bay on the thumb of Michigan to the Caseville/Port Austin area. It's a great vacation spot on Lake Huron and the beaches aren't overcrowded. If you're a FFF (fish-fry-freak) like me, and you plan it just right, you can hit 2008's 31st annual Fish Sandwich Festival August 1-3 in Bay Port, MI on the way! If drinking and driving wasn't dangerous (and illegal) and you were to stop at every roadside bar on the way to Caseville, it would take you 4 days to make the 6 hour trip. Fireside Inn is one of these roadside bars that has a decent-sized rustic wooden booth lined restaurant attached. And like in Wisconsin, what do we do on Friday nights in Michagan? You got it! ALL-U-CAN-EAT FISH FRY! It's tough to say "oh, this is the BEST fish fry I've ever had." I have discovered so many good ones over the years that it sometimes boils down to how good of a time I had there. Fireside holds its own in the FF department. Their pizza is quite good. I've encountered that at random Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan bars. It's quite weird. Maybe it reminds me of home or something. Fireside Inn and their friendly wait staff is on Port Austin Rd. between Caseville and Port Austin. It's worth stopping in for a bite! read more

We just got pizza take out and not only was the food amazing but the entire experience was extremely COVID-cautious! There was a patio walk-up window--I didn't even have to touch a door. I watched the cashier spray the take-out window between patrons. Masks were required. I paid over the phone with my credit card. I mean, I don't even require all those things, it was just really nice to see the restaurant was doing their part to be safe. We go camping every year at Port Crescent and always make sure to stop by Fireside Inn for a break from the hot dogs and s'mores. This year was no exception and we were not disappointed!! read more

Always our go to for BBQ ribs. I miss the BBQ chicken they used to serve. Have taken friends there for dinner and they were very happy. I have never in all the many times we have eaten there have we ordered a hamburger or other simple. Love their BBQ. Baked potatoes are good also. Nice atmosphere wood cabin style / up-north feel. The fireside inn is one of very few restaurants i say that I will never eat at ever again. We walk in and we were seated immediately. We waited about 10 mins and the waitress finally came to take our drink order. One of the guests at our table asked for a bigger straw and she replied in the nastiest way saying that we only use them for takeout. At our table we decide to time how long it toke to get our food. 45mins. And we only order appetizers. And not once did the waitress come to check on use. The drinks were warm. But the food was good but not worth the wait. We immediately asked for the bill but she wanted to take another table's which had 12 people sitting at it. But we told her that we had been waiting long enough. So she gave use the bill with a nasty glare. If you are going to eat here clear your schedule for the rest of the day. read more

This a pretty good spot. Your food will be decent, and the prices are reasonable. Everyone that is complaining about slow service at any restaurant in the thumb has to realize finding workers in small towns is very difficult. Also, we live a slower paced life style. So, take a deep breath and enjoy the company of the people you are with. This is not Detroit, it's the thumb. read more

We visited the FireSide twice during our vacation in the area. On our first visit we had two large pizzas. We found that they were very large, the toppings were fresh and delicious and overall the service was very good. On our second visit we came on a Friday evening and my wife had the fish and jumbo shrimp special ($14.99 I believe). She ranted and raved for a couple days about how tasty that meal was, especially the shrimp. I had a burger and thought it was well prepared and was very delicious. From a food perspective we were very happy with both of our meals. Obviously not fine dining, but good quality. From a service perspective we had the same waitress for both visits. On our first visit she was quite prompt and we had a great service experience. Our second wasn't as good as she seemed quite overloaded and took quite some time between visits. The disappointment was on service when we were charged full price for kids drinks (drinks are included with kids meals) because our kids were served in adult glasses rather than kids cups. The waitress did ask us if we would prefer adult glasses (which can we usually say yes to so they're not wasting disposable cups and so the waitress doesn't have to do so many refills), but neglected to mention that we'd be charged full price for them. When it was pointed out she did have the charge removed, but not until she pointed out that she asked us. The biggest service positive was that on both occasions we came with lager groups and they happily split the checks and did not automatically add a 15% gratuity as stated in the menu. Overall the food was very good, service acceptable and prices reasonable. We'll be back again. read more

I have eaten here twice this past week, so this rating is an average of the two. The first trip I was dying for some fish and chips-since my mom mentioned my little brother comes here for fish and chips I figured it must be good. I must say it started out excellent as the cole slaw seemed homemade and was outstanding! But then when the meal comes out tartar sauce is in a small pre-packaged kraft tartar sauce packet. Come on now! Tartar sauce is not that difficult to make and stores seemingly forever. Also, one small package of tartar sauce for three pieces of fish? My mother also ordered fish and chips and got the same. The second knock is choice of fish. Pollock is a decent fish, call me old school but it's not fish and chips unless it's cod or haddock. There were three large pieces (long and thin) and batter was light and crispy. My wife had a hamburger and fries. The patty seemed to be pre-made/frozen and was under cooked. Although the restaurant was not busy, service was slow. So this was about 2.5 out of 5. Three days later on my daughter's birthday, we were looking for a good pizza to order. The pizza place we had planned to order fell through (cash only and we didn't have enough on us at the time), my wife suggested we try Fireside Inn because the folks next to us when we were eating there had ordered one and it looked/smelled excellent. So very reluctantly, we ordered one for pickup (one large cheese, the other a large supreme-like) hoping we weren't going to end up with a bad pizza for birthday dinner. Both pizzas were fantastic, especially the supreme. They were even better reheated the next day in the oven. So the pizza was 3.5 out of 5 and one of the best that we've had in this area of rather limited choices. read more
