I called versatile plumbing and heating looking for someone to come out and provide an estimate for an entirely new heating system (boiler, baseboards, piping, all of it) in a residential home. Before even asking anything about the house or the job he instead asked how many other people I had looking at the job. When I said that I have had 2 other people look at the house and am looking to have 1 or two more estimates before making a decision he said that he was not interested in a job if more people were going to look at it. When I asked why he indicated that if there were more people looking at the job then I was just interested in comparing all of the estimates and choosing the cheapest one....Which is exactly true...because thats how business and estimates work. So apparently if you want the job to be high quality and competitively priced Versatile Heating and Plumbing is not interested in providing the work. I cannot say anything as to the quality of their work as he has not done any work on my home. But as a professional myself I would not trust any business that discourages getting multiple opinions and estimates. I imagine if I had gone ahead with Versatile a heating system would get installed but it most likely would be overpriced for the installed product. After one single conversation Mr. Patterson and Versatile Heating and Plumbing are definitely not worth my trust. I would suggest you call around...there are plenty of other plumbing and heating businesses out there willing to provide estimates and honest work.

Formal Complaint for Unlawful Business Practices and Endangerment + ZERO response over months…read more The typical cost to replace a sump pump in Maine is $524, but it can vary between $308 and $749. The Company charged over the highest cost on the spectrum and never completed the job. Augusta Natural Gas, "The Company," used multiple dubious business practices by charging to replace a simple sump pump for MORE THAN THE HIGHEST PRICE IN THE STATE, while: 1. Neglecting to first notify the Client, or get authorization from the Client, for the unconventional and egregious hidden fees including: A) Issuing a secretive debit card use penalty for paying the (unfinished) job in full using a debit card. B) Fuel charges. By a local fuel company. To travel 10 minutes. Amounting to $1/minute. 2. Leaving the job undone; rendering the pump useless without having been put into a standard level in the ground, for the pump to work at all: without communicating that the Company's plan has been to try charging the same Client as though the completion of the job is another separate job. This is an unlawful and unacceptable attempt at stealing yet more money from Client. 3. Using extremely cheaply-built parts, kits of which the exact parts that are found at retail box stores and online for far less, and which kits were separated by the company and then charged the parts individually at inflated prices. There is a clear pattern of deception here across the board. Company's worker also left behind the trashed parts that they were here to replace and did nothing to properly clean behind themselves before leaving the job site. 4. For more than 2 months, this Client has left emails and called multiple times only to be lied to directly by the receptionist. Each time she guarantees verbally that "Todd is out of the office..." but that he will call back. No callback has happened for months now; while this Client has lost yet more money from all of the billable time taken from MY business - to get someone here to finalize the job -what should be a simple matter. 5. Severe damage can happen any day to this house and inhabitants if this Company continues to refuse to simply do the right thing and finish the FAR-OVERPRICED job and put the pump into the ground. Otherwise, it's completely useless. 6. False advertising, another serious offense, appears on the front page of the company's website, misleadingly claiming they "provide exceptional service to our clients needs based upon their individualized situations and needs." The evidence above proves the exact opposite is true. 7. This Client and family has been put in harm's way due to blatant greed and negligence by the Company, Augusta Natural Gas. This final request has been emailed on 9.25.24. No reply as of 10.18.24. FORWARD THIS TO ALL Entities which protect consumers from sloppy, predatory, lazy, dangerous business practices like these.

Not reliable or trustworthy…read more I had a 10 o'clock appointment on February 25th to get a leaky sink sprayer replaced, see about installing a new dishwasher , and repositioning a water heater. They didn't even have the professional courtesy to call and let me know they were running late. At 10:45 AM they still hadn't showed up so I called the office. The receptionist offered no apology, just said they were running late. (Duh!!) I replied, so why didn't someone call?? She simply responded, 'I'll get back to you and hung up.' The plumber finally arrived at 11:45 AM with a journeyman, and offered no apology. In fact, he was not a very pleasant or communicative person, although with each thing he looked at, he informed me there was a problem. To make a long story short, what I assumed might be $200, was almost $500. Unfortunately, I was told upfront, their policy was not to give estimates so I took my chances. I had used them in the past, as had neighbors in my condo development and been happy. THIS IS A VERY DIFFERENT COMPANY NOW and not for the better! In hindsight, I believe the 'no estimates' is their sneaky, dishonest way to inflate prices. They seemed to have no problem cashing my check within 24 hours , yet they've refused to respond to phone calls and VM to get back to me with a price breakdown.
