Brought my car in for some highway noise to be diagnosed. They used to be straight shooters , but today told me I would need $2700 worth of suspension repairs and new tires. Better get a second opinion if you go here, had it checked elsewhere and I only needed $600 in new tires. I will not buy the tires at this shop ! read more

While on a road trip, our check engine light came on. I called Firestone and they said bring it first thing in the morning and we'll work it in. Got there at 7:15 and they had us fixed and out by 9:30!!!! Needed a new thermostat, coolant, etc. And got a military discount. Fantastic people and great service! read more

3 years ago Firestone replaced my alternator. Something stupid happened and the serpentine belt broke which lead to spewing lubricants all over the engine. They sent me off with a mess on my hands. Luckily I was directed to go back and have them clean it up. They emptied several cans of degreaser. Fast forward to this week. My alternator failed. The mechanic said it looked like something had coated and corroded it. The alternator went back to Firestone where they refused to even look at it to determine if they may have been at fault. Said it was well out of their warranty. What a bunch of turds! NO integrity. Stay away from Firestone! read more

TLDR a small 3 hour job became a 6 hour job that was not done correctly. My car needed new tires and an alignment, which I made an appointment for. When I got there they said it would take roughly 3 hours. After a couple hours they called me to say that I needed a new ball joint which I agreed to and they said it would take an extra hour or two of work. After roughly an hour I was called again and told that they had punctured the boot on my drive shaft. They agreed to replace and not charge me for it but it would take an extra hour to replace it. Finally after all was said and done I had my car back but there was now a loud clunking sound whenever I turned the wheel too hard or went over a bump. After confirming when I would hear the sound I called to try and get my car into the shop to have them look at it since this was something new from after they serviced it. Sadly they were booked out for weeks so I would not be able to get in any time soon. I then had a friend of mine help me look at it personally and confirmed that the ball joint was not correctly installed as the bolt used was a couple sizes small and the sound I was hearing was the ball joint popping in and out with how loose it was. Thankfully my friend helped me fix this but to say the least the only good thing about this visit was how courteous the front desk was about keeping me up to date. read more

They will take you out to your car and show you what needs to be done and why AND without making you feel stupid for having no idea what things are. Actually learned a ton! Very honest and thorough.. He also checked my tires to make sure the noise I was hearing wasn't due to any loose lug nuts, or an axle. He didn't charge me anything for his assessment, and simply shook our hands as payment. I came up for a weekend trip up the north shore and ended up having my water pump go out while in town. They were able to get my problem diagnosed that day and fixed the next. Very much recommend this shop, everyone was very friendly and made us feel at ease in a not so fun situation! My son is in Duluth attending college. The blower motor in his car suddenly stopped working. No blower = no heat. That's pretty important in Duluth in January. After checking the fuses, my son brought his car into Miller Hill Firestone to diagnose the problem. The shop told him he needed a new resistor and a new blower motor. $500+ repair estimate. (also changed $50 for the diagnosis) My son called and asked me my opinion. I told him that in my experience it would be odd for the motor to suddenly die and also for the resistor to go bad at the same time. Luckily the temp was just above freezing and my son had some time off. He drove the car home (without heat) to the Twin Cities where we installed a new resistor ourselves in about a half hour for $70. Problem solved, $400+ saved. Lesson learned. read more

I brought my Silverado in for an oil change, new break pads and to get the rotors resurfaced (Firestone was running a $99 special on pads and rotor resurfacing). Pads are easy and I would normally do it myself, but it was below zero temps that week and I do not have a heated garage. I get a call after my truck has been there for 2.5 hours with an estimate for several hundred dollars in a complete brake rebuild. New pads (that one is obvious), new rotors (they were too far worn to resurface, which I'm still skeptical about, but I'll accept it), and to top it off, new calipers! According to them, the slide pins were seized. I asked them to put the wheels back on and give me my truck back. I ordered new AC Delco professional rotors and pads from Amazon for 1/3 the price they quoted me, and checked the slide pins myself. As soon as I removed the caliper bolts I knew I'm never taking a vehicle back to this shop again. I expected to have maybe pound on the pins a bit, maybe heat them up and have to replace them and the bushings. Nope. Beyond a bit of corrosion on the ends (we do live in northern MN) there was nothing wrong with the pins or calipers). In fact! I was able to freely spin and pull out all four pins BY HAND! They weren't seized whatsoever. Either they didn't actually check them, or they did and wanted to screw me over, either way the blatantly lied to me. Absolutely not acceptable for a simple maintenance service and vehicle repairs in general. I highly recommend find a different shop. I normally don't write bad reviews, but trust in a car technician is something that's hard to come by and I hope I'm saving someone who doesn't have maintenance experience, from losing out on bogus repairs. read more

Do not take your car or truck her for brakes, absolutely the highest prices in the midwest. I recently had a brake line issue with a common model chevy truck. What turned out to be a very big job for my mechanic and cost me only $1000 dollars the Firestone want $2700 dollars for. They also estimated a 5 day return of the vehicle, my mechanic had it ll done in one 8 hour work day exact same job as listed on the firestone estimate Sales staff works on commission so get ready for polite sales people but extremely high prices and long wait periods. read more

I brought my truck in to get a tire replaced and front end alignment about a month ago when I was in town. I'd done business here in the past with great results. This time the tire replacement and alignment went smoothly, but as usual and expected, they came out 4-5 times to try to upsell me on 'problems' with my truck. I maintain it immaculately so I knew these problems didn't exist, but they're in business to make money, so no big deal. I politely declined, waited, paid, and left. Later that day my brake light and ABS light came on. I check it and my brake fluid reservoir is low, like REALLY low, something I would have noticed much sooner if it was a problem. This isn't something that evaporates. So its either a leak, which hadn't been the case in the years I've owned the truck and the warning lights would have come on sooner if it was leaking. I fill it up and ever since have had zero problems with low fluid. The only reasonable explanation is they drained some out during the process somehow and never refilled it, or I really hope this isn't the case, they drained it to try to get me back in for more business. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here, and say it was an honest mistake, but I think I'll take my business elsewhere next time. Low to no brake fluid in the reservoir could have ended dangerously. That's not something to mess with. read more

The staff here are incredibly nice and well-mannered. That being said, I can't overlook a bad experience I had with them. Basically, I had to bring in my car three different times (each time being without my car for 3 days) because they didn't see something that should have been obvious the first time. Shelled out approximately $1500, and luckily they didn't charge me for the labour aspect of it. I'd give them five stars if not for this experience. read more

These guys had a perfect opportunity to screw me and did the exact opposite. I was driving back to Canada from Minneapolis and noticed a smell of gas around my car when I parked to have dinner. I'd smelled gas earlier too so was a little worried it was coming from my car. Decided not to take any chances. Went to Firestone an hour before closing. Asked if they could check for leaks. They put my car on the hoist right away, called me within half an hour to reassure me they couldn't find anything leaking on my car, and ....get this....didn't charge me a thing. I was so impressed, I bought them chocolates for their time. Very glad to have dealt with these folks. read more

Unless you want to waste your money I suggest never to use Firestone! I was quoted over 1,400.00 for front brakes, rear brakes and a new master cylinder. One my front brakes are brand new ( didn't need to be replaced). And as far as the rear brakes yes they did need to be replaced, along with a front sway bar and for the master cylinder brake fluid needed to be added only! Total cost at a reputable shop (parts and labor) $276.00 wow! Firestone is the biggest rip off ever!! read more

Very friendly staff, probably so they can try and sell you things you don't need. Went in for an oil change and they come back telling me I need 1200dollars of work on my car. I am a poor college student so that was not going to happen to start with. I do not know a whole lot about cars so I decided to look up all of the things that they said I should do and consulted a mechanic friend. Of all of the work they said I needed for the over 1200 dollars there I could easily do by myself or with aforementioned friend for five hundred dollars or even less. On top of that, half the repairs they said I needed I really did not and when I asked for a quote on the price of all the repair they added a 200 dollar warranty policy that I assuredly did not want nor ask for. They also charged 12 dollars to install a few license plate light bulbs that I already had and took more than likely a minute a piece, AFTER they told me I would not be charged for it. I paid my 36 dollars and left, never to come back I can tell you that much. read more

my last two trips to firestone have ended with them selling me or attempting to sell me expensive products and repairs i did not need. in the first instance, it seems to be a matter of incompetency or lack of vehicle knowledge. in the second, it was straight-up dishonesty. trip 1: brought my wife's rav4 in for a flat repair. they told me there was a gash in the sidewall so the tire was unrepairable. then they told me that because rav4s are AWD, all four tires would need to be replaced despite them being less than 6 months old - that uneven wear could damage the drive train. we were leaving for a trip the next morning so there was no time to get a second opinion. we spent $800 on four new tires. after returning from our trip, i did a little research. turns out that while he was correct in MOST cases, he wasn't in the case of the rav4. rav4s aren't true AWD vehicles and spend 99% of the time in 2WD so it would have been completely safe and acceptable to replace one or maybe two tires. this was confirmed by speaking with a local toyota dealer. i spent $400-$600 on tires that i didn't need. trip 2: i brought my car in for new tires. i knew what i needed and i knew what i wanted. no problems there. when i went to pick my vehicle up i was told that my brakes were shot... "beyond repair..". everything (pads, rotors, calipers) would need to be replaced. they gave me an estimate for $1,675 (ONE-THOUSAND-SIX-HUNDRED-SEVENTY-FIVE-FRIGGIN'-DOLLARS!?!) and urged me to get it done ASAP because my car was, they claimed, "unsafe for the road." well. fresh out of thousand dollar bills from my money tree, i opted to park my beast for the majority of the winter and spring while i saved. in the meantime, i talked to a mechanic friend who said it was very unlikely my calipers needed to be replaced and even if they did, it could be done for less than $800. after almost six months of inconvenience caused by being down one car, i'd gotten the money together to get the necessary repairs done. guess what? not only did the calipers NOT need to be replaced, either did the rotors. I did, however, need new pads and two pins. grand total = less than $200. nice try, firestone. i'll be taking my business elsewhere from now on. read more
