My husband and I went to Firestone for an oil change and complete vehicle inspection. The car has been acting funny for a while due to not having been properly taken care of by its prior owners so we knew there would be problems having come out of the inspection. When we pulled up, we were immediately informed that we need new tires (which we then informed the attendants that we knew and were planning on doing soon). Once they were done, they informed us that the only problem with the car is that it needed new tires and that everything else in the car was completely fine. They emphasized the importance on changing the tires as soon as possible. The cost for the Firestone tires was too expensive so we left. The person we spoke to constantly mentioned the tires to us, as well as to every other customer that entered while we were waiting. We managed to find a more reliable, cheaper set of tires at a different tire business. While here, we found that Firestone did not return the wheel lock forcing us to pay extra to have the tires removed. My husband called Firestone about this and they were very rude to him. Once the tires were removed, we were informed that the struts of the car needed to be replaced and would have caused major problems in the future. Clearly, Firestone is getting massive kickbacks from selling tires that they can't be bothered with any form or customer service or ensuring that people are driving safe cars. Thanks for nothing, Firestone. We definitely won't be back. read more

Beware of this Store trying to sell you services that you don't need! My usual tire store could not get the snow tires I wanted so I decided to give Firestone in Montclair a try. They were not the cheapest but had the tires I wanted and were close. After they put the tires on my car they called me to tell me that I needed the front end aligned then offered me either the $89 one time alignment or a $169 lifetime alignment and asked me which one I wanted. Since it was a brand new car I told them don't do either and took it back to the dealer I purchased it from since it was under warranty and they do the alignment for free. The dealer checked my vehicle out and said the alignment was fine. I would not go back to Firestone in Montclair. read more

In the past I brought my car to the dealer for general maintance and it was always 5 + hours and never less than $300 usually much more. I moved close to this location of firestone, I couldn't get to the dealer and needed Maintance. I had low expectations but surprise surprise they did a great job, on time and way less than the dealer. Now I get all of my general Maintance and tire issue exclusively here st this location. Been there yesterday to have my car aligned. The guy at the customer service counter tells me that my wheel bearing repair was not done correctly and they cannot align the car (I had my wheel bearing repair done elsewhere). also tried hard to sell me new tires.... I knew the bearing repair was perfect, and the Firestone guy didn't want to do my alignment because it was covered under the Lifetime Alignment plan and thus wouldn't get paid extra for it. I then went to the Firestone location in Jersey City, which also co-incidentally has much better yelp reviews, and they did the alignment PERFECTLY. read more

What a refreshing experience! I walked in on a busy Saturday am with no appointment and was taken care of completely even when my car required additional service that I did not initially bring it in for. Friendly, knowledgeable staff that kept in touch with me throughout the day and consistently updated me on the status of my vehicle. Really made a woman feel like there are great mechanics out there that you could trust and not have to worry about trying to get one over on you because you don't really know all that much about cars. Cesar and Chucks were super friendly and informative from start to finish and commend them and their team for running such an inviting facility. It's rare to have an auto repair shop (especially a chain) where you do not walk away feeling ripped-off. Firestone in Montclair has been essential in giving the best maintenance for our cars since we moved out here 4 years ago. Particularly, Rich, Chuck, and Caesar have been incredibly helpful finding the best prices and always make time to explain everything thoroughly. Walked into the Fire Stone for an oil job. As I'm waiting behind a lady who I hear is getting the same thing done to her car, it's about 60-90 minute wait. I approached the desk and the older guy behind the counter asks me if I have an appointment. I replied no but I've been coming here for years and I usually wait. He tells me it's going to be a 5 hours wait. I responded " for a 20 minute oil job?" He said what do you want me to do.... No customer service what so ever. I wasn't going to bring up the fact that the lady in front of me got a 90 minute window just due to the fact that I would make a customer feel awkward. The desk person was fine when I came in to repair a flat tire, but gave me the cost, w/o explaining what was included. I was in a hurry so I didn't focus on it. When I came back in I paid, and then looked at the bill...it included a number of items that I didn't know what they were. One, a protection plan of some sort for almost $10 was included and never explained to me. WHen I complained i got a blank stare. I like the idea of a warranty (which should come included for the price I paid for a single tire), so I didn't have it removed. Then I stood there....and finally, I said, "Where's the car" and he answers somewhat rudely that it was outside..but that was news to me since I didn't see it as I came in. Overall, the repair was done and I guess I got a tire that works (which kind and options were never explained to me), but the cost was hight and included a package that wasn't explained to me. Shame on me for not pressing upfront, but the service was just not there. read more

Been a long time customer with two cars that have been serviced here...everything from simple oil changes, to tires, brakes and major services. They used to be good back in the day, convenient and relatively fast and reliable, but in more recent years they've just gotten downright sloppy. They get a lot of business, there are always more cars in their lot than they can normally accommodate. But it seems the boom in business is causing them to skimp, skip and forget things, just to get your car in and out! No topping off of liquids with an oil change, did they put all the caps back on, oh, what about your lug nuts...probably still sitting on a nearby shelf in Firestone. There have been more than enough reasons - big and little - for me to complain, but the convenience kept me going back. This last episode though was the deal breaker for me. We went for new tires and they had stripped and reapplied the bolts. We only found this out when we took it to the dealer for replacement of a major system in the car (Firestone couldn't do this one), and they looked at why one of the sensors was going off and wouldn't allow them to properly fix it. The dealer actually replaced the stripped bolts and boxed the stripped ones to show us. They said, "whoever did your tires...you need to take this to them and get your money back. It wasn't done properly and it's not safe." We took the stripped bolts back and showed Firestone. In checking it out to see what the issue was, they then left off a few lug nuts on our wheels, multiple wheels. They gave us some money back for the stripped screws and bolts, but the whole transaction and discussion didn't leave me feeling confident in their standard of service excellence. But that was just the stripped bolts...now comes the fun part. We didn't even know about the lug nuts until about a week later while on a road trip. Strange sounds and wheels started shaking while on the highway (I-95) in NC!! Had to pull over into breakdown lane to check it out. We had to remove the remaining few lug nuts and redistribute them. We ended up getting off the highway at the next exit where there was a PepBoys. We bought extra lug nuts and finished the ride home. But who needs this bs after you've taken your car in for tire service and paid for it?!! We could have been in a serious accident due to their negligence!!! Just can't go back to this Firestone. We don't trust that they aren't skimping, skipping, forgetting, overlooking and rushing. read more

If your car has a problem, they will find it. If your car doesn't have a problem they will recommend that they fix it anyway. They are definitely skilled, but beware they will recommend completely replacing parts even when alternatives are cheaper and just as efficient. I was quoted $1000 to replace my back set of brakes from them. I ended up getting quoted $400 and $300 from two other shops and eventually paid $290 for the fix. It's absurd that they, in good conscience, recommended $700 worth of more work than required. What's up with that? read more

This is by far one of the best shops I've had the pleasure of doing business with. The level of professionalism, customer service, and quality of work is superb. I called with very short notice and was accommodated for a same day appointment. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with respect, given an explanation of the work and wait time, including an update while I waited. Not only was it relatively quick, but the cost was less than what I was expecting to pay. While this was my first time here, I will definitely return if necessary. Horrible experience and awful customer service. I've been going to this place for years. I brought my car back after it started to make a noise after I had an oil change. They said it needed mounts and tried to sell me on buying tires. Then they had the wrong mounts and had to order them, holding my car overnight. The next day I ended up paying more than I vaguely recall was the estimate. Later that day the car was having the original noise. I brought it back and the technician found that the noise was from the hood prop was broken off/missing and that stick was resting on the battery creating the noise. The manager was slow to respond and provided two options which I did not like. The technician secured the hood stick with a twist tie! Now I'm waiting to hear back about them fixing the hood prop and I'm hesitant to return to this location as they will probably mess something else up and I have to use my time again for their mistake. read more

Surprised at the mixed reviews. I am a car guy and have brought 2 of my vehicles here. Both have had great service from multiple customer service reps and technicians. No bs; just the logistics for what i needed. The only disappointment is that there is no welding on site, so if you have a heatshield rattle they will use clamps. I took my Jeep to the Montclair Firestone over the weekend because The steering felt a little loose and the steering wheel vibrated like crazy when I hit a rough patch getting on the highway. The first thing I thought was alignment, but after bringing it in, they noticed a bolt holding my steering stabilizer in place was loose so they tightened it up and called me. They suggested I check all the bolts before having the alignment and sent me on my way. I really appreciate them going the extra mile and checking other possibilities before just doing the alignment, which wouldn't have done anything. Will be back with all of our cars. read more

.Women and FOREIGNERS BE AWARE OF THE PREDATORY MECHANICS. I purchased a auto battery from this place and it was defected. My car was unable to start after the replacement. I explained the situation many times and they refused to replace it. I would need to jump the vehicle to be able to operate it. A separate mechanic shop showed that the issue was the battery. So I came back to explain the battery problem. eventually, they accepted battery has a problem and changed it. I had a hard time for 5 months because of this problems and they also try to get paid as much as they can. They said that is free when the battery has a problem but they charged some money for other reasons. From the beginning, when I try to buy the battery, they wanted to charge money for some other reasons more and more. They explained first time if battery has a problem, they will change for free but when they changed it, they asked money to check my battery situation. I don't understand, they gave the wrong battery. That is their fault then why they charged money to check the battery. I have to get money from them because they wasted my whole time and gave me stress. My impression of this store is, they are crazy to charge money every single time. When I complain about it, they made me wait a long time, it looked like there were no costumers and they said I should wait 2 hours and I waited and then the people who came after me, they gave the service first and I was so upset about it. horrible, horrible, extremely horrible place. Watch out for the guy who had a mole. If you don't know about the car, he will try to deceive you. If you are a woman, don't go there alone. I want to begin by saying I would never come back again to this location. My experience with the service manager Mardy Martin was horrible.I'm not even sure how he works with people. He was so rude, argumentative and almost bullying. First he asked if I had appt which I did. He looks it up and says that they overbooked in error. That it would be a long wait.2nd..when he discussing pricing and wanted me to sign..I told him I will wait for my husband to come back(as he was moving the car) and he was very persistent on me sign something I didn't understand. 3rd.. I asked him if their alignment machine is working because last time I bought tires..the alignment wasn't done cause the shop said the machine was broke to come back in a few days. And still when I came back in a week it still wasn't fixed so I never returned for the alignment. I ask if there were any discounts as it wasn't done. I'm not even sure if I got charged the first time. His answer was I should've went somewhere else and that's impossible that his machine was never broken.he argued me down about it and he was so sure I was wrong.then another service guy walked in and confirmed that it was broken at that time. then Mardy ignore that and kept talking over me. He showed he didnt even care for customers.I told him that he is rude. And that why he can't just apologize for the inconvenience and move on. And i told him I'm only here cause my husband wanted to come and i already drove 25mins with my front tires shot..wires from the tires showing and I had a flat with a nail stuck.i ask for his name and i told him that I will make a complaint. He had the nerve to tell me that me making a complaint would only look bad on me not him. This guy is beyond rude.
