Sure they inspected and did oil change, but did nothing to fix the exhaust problem (reminded on phone twice) and then tacked on extra charges (not associated with exhaust) without calling us for approval for the service. read more

My Corvette that is stored during the winter needed a NJ motor vehicle inspection performed. I called Jim and asked if I needed an appointment. Even though he was busy, he told me to come right in and he would take care of it. I arrived and he took the car right in (I didn't even turn it off). He performed the inspection immediately and had the sticker on in less than 20 minutes. We had a nice conversation and I got to know Jim. He is a dedicated mechanic who is fully equipped and capable of performing any maintenance on any vehicle. His expertise and attention to detail is remarkable. Was in the market for a new mechanic. I used to go to Tim at Claridge Sunoco but they closed. Had a very upsetting experience with another mechanic at a local gas station so I gave Bunky's a shot since they were close and have been there forever. First car I took was my grandfather's 08 Avalon for an oil change. Was told it would need rear brakes and rotors, which I knew were on their way out anyway. They even took me into the shop to explain and show them to me. Took it back next day and waited while the brakes were done, about an hour. Fast, easy, and simple. Then I took my 01 Blazer in for rear breaks and rotors as well, I provided my own parts, and had them look at a list of other things. Out of about 8 things on that list that they could have easily charged me for they said only 2 were necessary, breaks and a front idler arm, which expressed one of my concerns on that list. Picked up my Blazer and dropped off my 02 Camry that I inherited from my late grandmother and had them look it over for anything that needed to be done. Here is where anyone that would be out to scam you and make money would bite, got a call that it was ready and there was nothing that he could see that needed to be fixed urgently or in the near future and only charged me 25 bucks. I cannot say enough good things about this place. It is so hard to find a good, honest, and reasonable shop that is willing to work with you and not rip you off. Alan you just gained at least 3 new customers, me, my grandpa and my mother. Mechanics and shops like yours are hard to come by. Buyers BEWARE. NOT TO BE TRUSTED. First off, this place Had amazing service, negotiated prices and Used to do really amazing work. The quality of mechanics and "technicians" was pretty good throughout the years. Then, The Owner Retired. Mr. Bunky himself left for the West Coast a little while back. That man knew how to make deals and how to treat customers. He was short-worded, to-the-point and knew his stuff. He'd always make you feel valued without even really saying it... He left the business to a family member, and although a decent human and an average mechanic, he has no idea how to run any business; especially a small business. You see, I had already taken the car to the dealership and another mechanic for diagnostics. I wanted to revisit this location and see if they matched the other two assessments, then I would just leave it with Bunky's because, well...why wouldn't I? I thought out of Anyone...I could trust Bunky's. I used to but now, they tried to overcharge me and sell me on unnecessary items. I was in complete Shock! I brought my car in for some basic repairs. I've never been at a shop that was so disorganized. I had to speak with three different people, who gave me three different opinions about issues that didn't even need work. I called well in advance...over a day...to give them a heads-up that I was going to come by, and they seemed to be so overwhelmed that they weren't able to get to my car to fix it, even if I wanted them to; they only needed to order one part and if they had done what they said they would do originally, it would have been ordered the same day and my car would be taken car of. If you can't take on a new client, then don't; and if you do, don't cheat them out of their hard earned money. I mean...c'mon, What's more, when I called them out on it, the new owner literally yelled at me and without going into explicit detail about his rhetoric, he said he didn't care about--I'm paraphrasing--loyal customers. So, I took it elsewhere. He also threatened to charge me a bunch of fees for just showing up, which was never the case in the past. The best way to look out for yourself and your car, is to go somewhere else. They do not value customers. They do not operate efficiently. They are average mechanics at best. They will always make you think you're getting a deal, when they're overselling or charging you. It's really a shame to have a legacy ruined like this...I was very disappointed. read more

My wife took her car here a few days ago for a service.Nothing More than a tune up/oil change etc. Turned out we needed new tires. Charged too much and poor customer service. My car would not start, and an AAA diagnostic showed it was a problem with the fuel pump or fuel line. Towed the car in with this information. We were charged $75 for the diagnostic "car does not start" - this is verbatim what was printed on the invoice. We were charged $305 for a new fuel pump, which is $255 at Autozone. Labor was reasonable at $40 per hour. But $125 in unnecessary charges. The staff were not hostile, but I would say they were rude. They didn't provide any information about what they found for the problem (eg was it just the fuel pump or was the fuel line also dirty that could cause a similar problem soon). They ordered parts and started work before providing an estimate for how much it would cost. I expect more communication that "This is Bunky's, your car is ready" when dealing with a garage. read more

Car dealerships, mechanics, etc...When I moved to Verona I wanted to find a good local mechanic who I could trust...One of my buddies told me about this place and I am grateful he did. I took my car there after going to the dealership and them indicating I needed a bunch of stuff done... Bunky was looking to save me money and told me what I REALLY needed versus what he could make an extra dollar on like the dealership was trying to do... What gives Bunky's 5 stars besides quality service, reasonable prices, and his honesty is the fact that one day I went to drop off my car for something and he asked me if I lived nearby. I said I can't walk there so he said "take my car" so I was expecting an old jolopee or something... NO, he gave me the keys to his brand new Honda with less than 10k miles on it. It was his personal car and I had only been there a couple of times but he wanted to provide me customer service and convenience and that he did. My daughter went to Bunky's -- it's on her way to work -- with a 'thumping' issue. Bunky's diagnosed it as probably being an artifact of quite worn tires, and didn't charge for the diagnosis. I appreciated the fact that they were honest and did not suggest any expensive (and unnecessary) repairs. They quoted her a fair price for tires, no pressure, and she had them install four tires a few days later. They ordered Dunlop tires for her, a solid brand, and the new tires solved the original problem. There was no question she needed new tires and they even told her she could 'get away' with only two tires for now. I was buying a car with my son at a local dealership and wanted to get a pre-purchase inspection to ensure that we weren't overlooking anything. I called Bunky's and asked if they had time that same day to take a look at the car. They asked me to bring it in after lunch sometime around 1 PM, and expected that they would have an open lift at that time. We arrived with the car a little later than that and had the car inspected almost immediately. The mechanic, who I believe was the shop owner, road tested the car and then put it on the lift to examine the suspension and underside of the car. He tested it for emissions and gave it a thorough look-over before confirming that the car was in terrific shape. Turns out that he owns the same brand car and gave me some reassurance as to their reliability. We were in and out in about twenty minutes. The price was very reasonable, and well worth the peace of mind that we were making a good purchase. I'll be keeping Bunky's in mind for future auto repairs. read more

I'm not really sure why others are complaining about rudeness. I've taken my car here several times (chose it partly for the proximity to my house so I can walk home if need be), and they're always nice. Usually they try to do the repair while I wait, and if the weather is bad, they have a little room where you can sit. It's crowded and not very comfortable, but there's a space heater there in the winter and a fan in the summer. Last time, it was very hot outside. They invited me to sit in the room and when one of the mechanics came in to get a soda out of the fridge, he offered me one. They were very nice, and I feel their prices are fair too. Once, I went there because I was on my way out of town and my Check Engine light came on. I happened to have just passed Bunky's, so I turned around and pulled in there. They checked my car quickly and told me honestly that it was safe to drive and I could come back when I returned from my trip. They didn't charge me to check it. Who knows-- maybe I just happened to deal with different mechanics than the others who wrote reviews. read more
