    Alignment specs (before and after)

After changing the struts on my car I needed an alignment(the strut does camber) had a noon appointment and dropped of the car and told them they could have it all day. Picked up the car right before closing and first thing I notice is on the alignment paperwork there was no change to camber or caster only toe. Got in the car and immediately notice the car pulling to the left. If anyone comes to this Firestone beware they don't do alignments they seem to only be able to adjust toe.

    The special "LIFT"
    Matt C.

I made an appointment to get my Alignment checked and buy the Lifetime Alignment Policy. The Lifetime alignment policy is a great value. Pay once, and never pay again. I have it on all my cars. I bring my other vehicles to the Firestone Place on Marconi & Fulton. Unfortunately, my car is too low to go up on the "RACK," it has to go up on the "LIFT." This is the only location in the area that has the lift. So I made my appointment, and showed up on time. I dont recall the name of the person I spoke to but he was friendly, professional and knew what he was doing. He was very helpful. That's where my satisfaction ends. Somehow, when the put it on the lift and tried top start it, the tail lights were flashing and they said my car had a problem. They asked me if there was a special "trick" to get it started. I said no. So I went over and it appeared to have a dead battery. It was fine when I started it in the morning. So they jump started it and did what was necessary. When they were done they told me my battery was dead and needed to be replaced. I think they did something wrong when they hooked up the battery. But the worksheet Inspection documentation says the battery was normal like 83%. I stopped at Walmart Automotive on the way home. They tested my battery and said it was FINE, eighty something as well. So I get home, and I'm concerned because the battery is old, but tests fine all the time. So I called Triple A (AAA) because I dont want to take any chances. The mechanic that came out tested it twice and said it was 82%. I suggested that we just replace it anyway. She said they are not allowed to replace a perfectly good battery. She also said that she's tested thousands of batteries and that I have nothing to worry about with my battery. I was fine before - and It's been fine since. I dont know what went on, but it ended up being a wasted day because of this episode. Now I'm either going to have to find another Firestone with the special platform, or take a chance here again...

Taking that advice at face value, I spent the money on a brand-new set of factory replacement rims. Ironically, those new rims were improperly mounted, resulting in a vibration that wasn't there before. So my solution to a balancing problem was... another balancing problem. Fast forward to this visit. I brought in my spare wheel to have a new tire mounted. Simple enough. I returned the next day expecting to pick it up, at which point Justin informed me there was "a problem." It turns out my wheel had apparently gone home with another customer. I paused for a moment, assuming the punchline was coming. Instead, I was offered a black wheel as a replacement. The trouble is, I'd previously spent good money buying matching factory silver rims, so introducing one black wheel into the family felt a bit like replacing a missing tuxedo shoe with a flip-flop. Curious, I asked how this could happen if every wheel is tagged with customer information. I was assured they are. So naturally I asked how mine ended up with someone else. The answer was refreshingly concise: "I don't know." I suggested perhaps calling the customer who had accidentally driven away with my wheel. After all, if every wheel is tagged, surely there would be a record of who received it. That seemed like a reasonable plot twist, but nothing came of it while I was there. The result? I use my truck to haul my bikes on weekend rides, and without a proper spare I decided not to risk it. Weekend canceled. Then came the equally enjoyable task of explaining to my wife why our matching spare had vanished and why the proposed solution was a black wheel that wasn't ours. If you've ever tried explaining that sentence out loud, you'll appreciate how little sense it makes. To the store's credit, they called Saturday to say the other customer had returned my wheel. I genuinely appreciate that. Unfortunately, they were closing before I could get there, so the damage, in terms of lost plans and unnecessary frustration had already been done. Everyone makes mistakes. Losing a customer's wheel isn't ideal, but it can happen. What left me scratching my head was that the systems designed to prevent exactly this scenario didn't seem to prevent it, and no one could really explain how it happened. Honestly, I'm left wondering what adventure awaits on visit number four or five or whatever it is. I'm not eager to find out.

As fate would have it, I took the car to the dealership for a recall and they discovered that one of the tires had a small bubble. I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to celebrate almost two years with the car by treating her to some new tires. I reached out to Chris who quoted me $1,200 (including manufacture warranty) for four thick profiled performance tires, which was $1,300 cheaper than the quote that I received from the dealer. Chris quickly placed the order for the tires and called me the next day to inform me that they had arrived. Since the establishment is generally very busy on the weekends, I decided to visit on a weekday in hopes for a quicker experience. Thankfully, there was only one car ahead of me when I arrived. Chris instructed me to pull the car into the shop and immediately began removing the tires (I'm always impressed by a hands-on owner). Less than 30 minutes later, the job was done and I was in the office checking out. As Chris implied, I can confirm that the ride quality of my car has significantly improved. I have been a customer for seven years and have referred many friends and family to the shop. It was a great deal however one hiccup was that he forgot to print out the readings on my alignment. This serves pretty much as proof that there was actually an adjustment and that it was done within spec of the car manufacturer. Since I was getting this job done for a friend it was very important to me to get the printed specs. I was told that the print out would be in the car and didn't think anything of it until I got on the freeway and wanted to take a look while sitting in traffic. Honest Mechanic Alert…read more As someone who has written plenty of Yelp reviews over the years, I don't throw around praise lightly--but this shop absolutely deserves it. My entire family brings our vehicles here, and for good reason. If you can, ask for Ali. He's handled everything for us, from routine maintenance to larger repairs, and the work has consistently been solid and reliable. For context, this shop is essentially maintaining a fleet of vehicles for our family business, and they've earned that trust through honest assessments and fair pricing. I also know my way around a vehicle, so I can tell when someone is being straightforward versus trying to upsell--and I've never had that issue here. Yes, the current economy means car repairs everywhere feel a bit more expensive than they used to. But what you're paying for here is transparency, quality work, and excellent customer service--and that's hard to beat. If you're looking for a mechanic you can actually trust, this place is worth checking out.

What was most disappointing wasn't even the noise itself--it was the response when I returned to the shop. I was told that "all cars do that" and that I would need to pay for a diagnostic. No one offered to recheck the wheel installation, inspect their work, or verify that the vehicle was safe to drive. I'm not claiming the shop caused the problem, but mistakes can happen during any service. Tire installations and rotations involve human work, and I expected at least a basic inspection when a new noise appeared immediately after the service. Instead, my concerns were dismissed. As a customer, it's frustrating to leave wondering whether the vehicle is safe to drive and feeling like no effort was made to investigate the issue. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this shop. Don't go here please go across the street your safety is very important!!!!! Thank you for your response. To clarify, my concern was never that a tire rotation requires disassembly of suspension or steering components. My concern was that a knocking noise appeared immediately after the tire installation and rotation, despite the vehicle not exhibiting this symptom beforehand. I did not ask for a free suspension diagnosis. I asked that the shop verify the work that had just been performed. As a customer, I expected basic checks such as wheel torque, wheel seating, and tire clearance before being directed toward a paid diagnostic service. Had someone simply said, "Let's double-check our work first and make sure everything related to the tire service looks correct," I likely would have had a very different impression of the experience. I understand that the noise may ultimately be unrelated to the tire service. However, when a new symptom appears immediately after service, I believe it is reasonable for a customer to expect the work performed to be verified before additional charges are discussed. I should mention that these particular wheels require an inner tube, unlike some of the newer styles with different spoke placement. Balancing also requires a finger-style adapter for the balancing machine, something that I had only seen one example of in my many previous interviews with other tire shops. My initial contact was with Tony who must be the manager. When I first listed all the requirements presented to me by the wheel manufacturer and showed him an old (damaged) wheel, Tony didn't think they had the correct adapter, at least the way I was describing it. After discussing it for a couple more minutes with him agreeing that he could do the job if only he had the proper finger-style adapter, he said good-bye and I prepared to drive away. But before I could drive off, Tony was tapping on my side window with the proper adapter in his other hand. He had one of his technicians with him and we all agreed that it appeared that Radial Tire could do the proper job. I told him that I would return the next day with all the tires and wheels. When I returned the next day, Tony was joined by Kirby, the owner of that location plus two or three technicians. Kirby's main concern was that the finger-style balancing adapter fit properly. As it turned out, we hadn't really looked very closely at the fit of the adapter the previous day, and, sure enough, the fingers were just a tiny bit too short to seat properly. Needless to say I was very disappointed. But once again and without saying much, Tony retreated to the office and found a set of longer fingers for the adapter that did the trick. If it hadn't been for Tony, I'm not sure if the problem would have been resolved. So we proceeded to unload everything and I handed Tony my list of what they were to do as specified by the wheel manufacturer. By the time we completed the paperwork, it looked like half the shop personnel was hovering around the tire mounting machine with the main technician reciting the list of do's and don't's that we had discussed. This struck me as about as close to TLC for these tires and wheels as I could hope for at any tire shop. I must have interviewed a dozen shops based on recommendations from a few of my classic car hobby friends before I stopped by Radial Tire Center. This is a professional and competent organization that I will be happy to patronize again in the future.
