Each one had its own policy. 1st Allstate, (total loss- our personal home) 2nd was a Duplex, (total loss) 3rd was a four bedroom home with a detached garage,( it received fire damage but survived.) When we purchased these homes back in 2015 and 2016, we had offered our primary home to Darren. I was really impressed, he said "no keep it with Allstate". This is a testament to his integrity, he could have easily bundled the 3 policies, instead it was left with Allstate. He throughly explained each new policy to us. For instance he had them insured as rentals. This protected us in case there was a loss of use and (a loss of income.) He dignified me with many answers to each question. He even offered extra coverage that I declined (I now regret) this too shows Darren is not a high pressure salesman. He suggested more personal property coverage, but I didn't feel our personal property was worth much. But that was MY Decision. With this new learning curve I now help others as others have helped me. AFTER THE FIRE- Everything had to be moved to a new location. If anybody understands business that means phones, faxes, communication, connections and Internet. That is not an immediate fix. They opened their doors as quickly as possible to start fielding calls and helping their clients. Many agents lost their homes. Coming into work, with folding chairs and folding tables. Just to get their doors open. Some without having a hotel to even stay in. For they too found themselves homeless, without their community and family. They were absolutely inundated, by the distraught, overwhelmed, sad and many angry clients looking for something and someone to blame. The staff took it all. Open during these extreme circumstances, Darren told me, there was nowhere else he would be. It was his civic duty to be here for his clients. Thankfully he was my agent and broker. He covered my assets as if they were his own. The tears, shock, distressed and depressed. I stopped by, and they graciously checked on me gave me personal hugs offered me water. This is an agent you would want. I couldn't suggest him more highly. if you're looking for someone with integrity and knowledge, Darren is the right broker for you. I have two homes in his capable hands. Now it's time to rebuild. I'll be staying with Darren.

This update is not so much a reflection on Keith's team as it is an indictment on State Farm in…read moregeneral. For the last 30 years I have had auto and home policies with State Farm. In that time, I have had zero accidents and zero claims that were my fault. I live in the western part of Chico where there is literally no wildfire risk. When time came to renew my policy, I was told that despite my home not being in a wildfire risk area and being a loyal customer for 30 years, they would not renew my home policy because of increasing risk exposure in California. I'll be the first to admit that wildfires are a problem in the state, but logical businesses understand that there are areas within the state with wildfire danger and areas without. Within 30 minutes I went to AAA who had no problem insuring my vehicles and home and I've turned my back on State Farm as they have done to every Californian. I encourage every single person with a State Farm policy to cancel it to run them out of the state entirely.

This was my first time going through the insurance process, and looking back, I feel like my lack of experience was taken advantage of. I trusted their guidance, but later realized I was paying for coverage that didn't really align with my needs. At the beginning, I was given several discounts (like a student discount) that I later found out I didn't actually qualify for. When it came time for renewal, my premium increased significantly after those discounts were removed. The most frustrating part of my experience was the lack of support after I was in an accident. They were very unhelpful during that process, and I ultimately went to seek help from another local Allstate agent. I ended up canceling my policy. I did have to pay about 10% of the remaining balance (around $20) to close out the policy. Overall, the experience left me feeling like I wasn't properly guided through the insurance process, especially as a first-time customer, and that my trust in their advice wasn't respected.
