Tons of parking was available. The song service was well organized & rehearsed, so no big bloopers were made. (One of my pet peeves because it's so distracting and embarrassing when someone is off tune, out of sync, or clearly didn't practice enough!) Not the case here. They had a clean & updated nursery room for babies, age newborn to 3 years old, where ladies were available to watch them during service (I chose to stay in the nursery with my little one). They also had a small room with two-way glass window so you can see / listen to the sermon while nursing or holding a noisy baby. Some older children, depending on age, can go to Sunday school. The following is for people who want to know what else to expect: --The worship style was contemporary, yet quiet, as in the audience doesn't participate much. Lots of whispery voices & silent worship. --There were probably 100 people in attendance, and it wasn't cramped or completely full. About 95% were Caucasian. I saw one Black woman, one Asian woman, and a few I couldn't quite place (Latino/ American Indian??) --The average member was over 45 years old, although there were a few (maybe 10) outliers / younger adults (not counting kids). There were also a few children in attendance with their parents or grandparents. --The preaching style was more like teaching, and he wasn't repeating himself over & over. Organized, clear, concise, and not too long winded.

The services are very short (1-1.5 hr.) and to the point and includes original praise and worship music that give it a unique personality. There is a surprising amount of volunteerism within the group compared to many churches. They make a concerted effort to help their community and participate in public events as well. They really have a very well crafted kids program too.

I found this place to be close to my home so I risked the ride over. I went a couple times back in 2013 and now recently a couple of weeks ago due to the transportation issue. I went to the sunday school held by the men of the church. It was sad to see they were in a study of a book something to the effect of marks of a man. They were reading this book expositionally, line by line, word by word, which I found strange because they didn't seem to do that with the bible. I didn't bother going to the service. Theologically speaking this place is starving for the meat of the Word. In all fairness, at least it wasn't Pentecostal or any other wild animal in between.

Part of the mission and vision statements include: "We share the good news of God's love by... - Inviting those historically excluded from the church into our community - Welcoming all with opennes and without judgement - Performing acts of compassion, mercy, and justice in the neighborhood, the community, and the world" I could go on and on about all the wonderful things this church has done and has to offer but I will just highlight the following: - We are a Reconciling Congregation which means that we openly accept gay, lesbian, transgender, etc. people into the congregation - There is an amazing music department, including Sanctuary Choir, Children's Choirs, and Bell Choir - Instead of kicking out the unsupervised elementary children that began hanging out on the property after school, an after school club was created by volunteers to help the children with their homework and provide other enrichment activities I know quite a few people who attend the church even though they are not United Methodists. It is a welcoming, non-judgemental place. Sunday morning services are at 9:30 and there is a once a month Taize service on Sunday evenings. More information can be found on the website.

I had learned to ring handbells in junior high and high school, and I found WCUMC's website when I was looking handbell groups in the local area. The website has since been redone. I found a beautiful sanctuary and an order of worship that was familiar to me, because my family attended a Methodist church when I was in elementary school. I found a thriving music program, and I met the director of the 2 adult handbell choirs that rehearse and perform at WCUMC. I found an engaging Pastor who presents issues with contemporary relevance in a spiritual context as food for thought. What has kept me coming back? The people of the congregation welcomed me from the start with genuine personable warmth. I can be a little shy in new situations, but I was put at ease with so many honest, friendly introductions. The topics of worship consistently invited me to consider new perspectives and enrich my understanding of scripture, Christ's teachings, and God's unconditional love. There are so many ways to Get Involved but "no pressure" to do so. I have joined both adult handbell choirs and the vocal choir (which I'll miss while we're on Summer hiatus). I've performed in the Annual Talent Show. I've been to a couple very informative and thought provoking "adult sunday school" meetings after the worship service. I've enjoyed regular opportunities for fun and casual fellowship at different social events. I could go on and on... I joined the church officially in March 2009, because everything I've described above has become an important part of my life. I also appreciate the "soft sell" approach that gives me plenty to consider and learn without pressure or judgment. I have made so many friendships with people who are practicing a living, breathing Faith. There is so much going on within the Church, and there are too many ways to list that it has a presence and makes a difference outside its own walls. I can't stress enough that EVERYONE is welcome here, and you may absolutely wear your "Sunday best" or show up in jeans and short sleeves. Come As You Are. What do I love the most? It is difficult to choose any one thing, but I guess it would have to be the people. I find a precious and otherwise rare synergy between the intimate camaraderie of the membership and the seemingly effortless way with which newcomers are invited to be an active part of it. Update 11/11/2009: Join us this December for two special holiday events! A stage performance adapted from "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens will be performed on Saturday night, Dec. 12 & Sunday night, Dec. 13 at 7:00pm in the Social Hall downstairs. I love that this church is highly introspective in looking at attendees relationships with God. Many other churches in our area are excessively focused on secular causes...so I appreciate the messages here and study/application of Bible messages.
