EDIT: post installation problems because this is what really counts. The system has only been running officially for 3 months. Our battery has stopped charging, inverter has an error and it stopped producing by about 50%. It's difficult to get a hold of anyone quickly but Tony reached back out a day later for an appt with a tech and fox rep 2 days away. The tech did not turn up. fox and myself couldn't get a hold of anyone for 2 hours while we are waiting for info on why they aren't here. Fox found installation mistakes and helped identify the issue even though they aren't supposed to touch the installation, 2 panels shorted out and I need first American to fix it. The tech made some excuses for not turning up, said they had turned up at a different time for some reason, although my cameras don't show anyone at that time either. It's now been a week and no one will provide me with a day or time for an appointment. They outsource the techs, they do not work for first American. Im left with a system that won't charge, producing 1/3 of the output and im left holding the bag with a company that won't provide support service, you pay the money and then you aren't a priority when it doesn't work. Zero priority even when they missed the appointment. Tony's been answering the phone so he's the only one I can put a good word in for but there's no service reliability from First American after the fact. Agreement for my rooftop solar was signed on September 3rd, 2025 where I was assured, verbally, that the project would be completed before the end of year. Well, that never happened. Final inspection was scheduled for April 24th and I was asked to pay my 2nd installment (Over 90% of the project cost). The installation did not pass inspection! Project manager assured me, verbally, that the corrections would not take more than a week or so. That was five weeks ago. We are nine months into this project with no end in sight!!! Nightmare so far. This has been the most disorganized and chaotic home project I have experienced as a home owner. But this is SOP I'm told. I question the leadership as employees seem confused, projects are poorly planned, pm was unaware of what elements are critical path and they just seem consistently unprepared at every step. Then we proceeded to get a few estimates. My husband was really impressed with the quote we received from Tony Mirzakhanyan who is the president of First American Solar in Montrose. Four months later we decided to proceed and everything was pretty seamless. First American Solar also took care of getting the permit from the City of La Canada which seemed to be very quick. We just had the panels and everything installed a couple weeks ago and we're very happy with it. Hopefully we'll get some rebates when filing this years taxes and it will pay off in the long run. Tony was quick with the quotes, explaining the sales process, giving a reasonable price, and responding to emails. Dominick was the Project Manager and was awesome. We started with a different project manager, who thankfully was either let go or quit, since she was very unresponsive and unorganized. However, when Dominick took control, he was awesome. Very great at being responsive, managing the project, and a great guy. I couldn't be happier with the service and quality from First American. Even with some items that needed trouble shooting, these guys were on top of it. They have my highest recommendation if you are looking for solar at your house. My hubby doesn't have Yelp, so he asked me to post this with my account. We live in the same house, so I saw all the steps. Customer Service: After speaking with 50+ installers we settled on First American Solar and we're really happy we did. I'm a self admitted very particular person and can definitely be annoying. After our virtual consultation with Tony, I peppered him with literally hundreds of questions over emails/texts. All answered without even the smallest hint of exasperation. When I wanted small nuances written into the contract before signing, all answered with professionalism with an easy going temperament. Quality of Installation: We went with high quality components and have not been disappointed. The install team was very professional and had no problems making any adjustments we requested. For example, I wanted an ethernet line run into my house and they were able to accommodate with ease. I also definitely wanted the consumption current transformer installed and again, completed as requested. They showed up on the days they said they would and always on the early side of the window. Everything is lined up well and the install looks great and producing power as it should be. Timeline: From signing to PTO, it took about 60 days which likely would have been even shorter had it not crossed over the year end holidays. Communication: I never waited for Tony to reach out to me for updates, but that's because I'm that type of person and was always reaching out to him. Not that he wouldn't have reached out to me, but because I was peppering him basically every day, I never gave him the chance to initiate. But not once did I call and he did not answer or return my call within a few hours. Same with texts and emails - always answered within the same day, most frequently within minutes/hours. Misc: We did not pass fire inspection the first go round, but corrections were made quickly and then we passed the second inspection. We passed the city inspection on the first go round. Did not get PTO granted the first or second time around due to some paperwork inconsistencies, but again rectified quickly and then we received PTO shortly thereafter on the third attempt. Areas of improvement: After everything was complete and I had dropped off the final payment, Tony called and asked what they could have done better. I told him that overall they were great, but if I had a few things I could nitpick about, it would be the fact that when we did not pass the fire inspection, I would have appreciated knowing exactly why we didn't pass and when it would get taken care of. Instead he just said we'll take care of it ASAP. To his credit, it was completed the next day or so, but I would have appreciated knowing something like...we'll fix this on Tuesday at 10AM - again, I know I'm very particular so most people might find "ASAP" as acceptable but I'm weird like that. He took this feedback well and with patience and grace, very much like all of our other conversations. Overall: I would definitely recommend Tony and First American Solar if you need solar for your home. They weren't the cheapest, but were definitely fair in pricing. We had gotten fed up with sunrun who was so slow and did nothing after 6 months..so we researched for months and after creating a 20 column checklist of what we needed we hired a local company named First American Solar in Montrose CA. The Owner Tony is a sweet, kind man who wants to be kept in the loop at each stage of getting solar panels and if you ever have any questions or complaints he answers right away and sets up getting what you want to know or do done right away. We wanted to get a new electrical panel and our electric company is Glendale Water and Power and that took longer to do than getting the solar panels all done. In any event, my advice is DO NOT LEASE but BUY your solar panels. Their salesman is a genius and builds his own computers. He cam explain anything about the whole process and knows all about the different types of solar cells and why some work better than others and explains things so well we have not been sorry. He can show you on your computer screen how it all works and came to our house and sat with my elderly mom and I explaining it all to our satisfaction. We vetted 15 other companies most were terrible and their salesmen seemed sincere but their customers ratings were awful. It was as if the salesmen didn't know what their company really did. It's been about 4-5 months but the first three were getting a new electrical panel and that wasn't their delay but Glendale Water and Power. And our new Solar panels are guaranteed for 25 years by both this company ( which is about 8-9 years old) and IF they go out of business the company that makes the Solar cells will still guarantee them for 25 years and you could get any company to put them up. I am a stickler about every part of this and have found First American Solar to be the best solar Company in the LA area. And they are even willing to travel to other places within a few hours away. Satisfying experience with First America Solar, from the first day (scheduling online meeting with Tony) to the last day (getting PTO from utility company). Tony and Dominick are quick in response, answered all my questions via Email. Given such a reasonable price, I have no complain and feel very glad to pick them to install my first solar system. Exclude the time (months) for waiting approval from utility company for the NEM2 application, everything is smooth and quick. Getting all the material for the application takes less than 2 weeks. Tony never put any pressure on us, even we are rushing the final 3/4 weeks for the NEM2.0 application deadline. The whole system was installed in 1.5 days, inspection in the following week. Wait another ~two weeks for the official final PTO from SCE. For the system, I checked google. They are using high quality materials (panels and invertors). We had a 7.2kW system, and mainly for running a pool pump in the daytime. It is more than enough with a buffer that we may need a EV charger in the future. Here is South Cal, expect the system will be breakeven in 5 years. We also learnt a lot from Tony as well. So glad we pick First American Solar and supporting local business.
