Easily the best coffee in the area. Solid drip, good cappuccino, a long with bags of freshly roasted beans to go. A quaint stop whenever we are near Royalton, and it's always a good idea to hit the coop next door. We would be so much more often, but unfortunately having to make the trip over the mountain makes it a tad difficult. But whenever we start running out of beans we make the trip. read more

IF there was an apocalypse and our capitalist economy decided to churn for one more day AND that day was a Thursday, I would have my last consumer purchase be a breakfast sandwich and an iced brown sugar oat milk latte from this establishment. I am of the opinion that breakfast sandwiches are one of life's greatest pleasures, and as such, have consumed many, but NONE as good as this one. Warm, buttery biscuit, some sort of cheese that works perfectly with the egg and bacon? Can't do better, truly. Don't be fooled--they only usually have them on Thursdays, but they are a true delicacy. Favorite day of the week. I also happen to be a Lorelai Gilmore-level coffee consumer, and am pretty picky when it comes to my brews. Any medium roast they have? Impeccable. The lattes always come out that rich brown reddish color, just enough espresso, just enough milk, not too sweet. Another thing--they take their time making the drinks. We LOVE First Branch. We stopped here 3 times this past month en route to various destinations. Easy off and on the highway, nestled between cute storefronts off the charming VT town green. These radiant people in this cute little place are doing it right!!! There was such a sweet, heartfelt and magic tinged community feel to the place, that we half expected the staff and customers to burst into a morning muffin fueled musical number! Their espresso based mocha was as good as it gets (hot, creamy, rich, beautifully presented) and the fresh-made donuts we had were out of this world! What's more, this little coffee shop is part of an amazing local effort called Building A Local Economy (www.balevt.org) which supports the cultural and economic vitality in this lovely Vermont river valley. Nice little coffee place right across from a beautiful town square! The maple latte was a very mild but algood flavor and the iced Mocha was super chocolatey... it may have been iced hot chocolate with a splash of coffee but it was good! I bounce between CT and Vermont just about every other week and love java. When i am in town visiting family this place is my go to for coffee. I start my day early capturing life on film just as the sun comes up and usually by that time i have pumped 3 or 4 cups down my throat. I stop in around the time they open and go for a cup of decaf, sometimes a treat and at that it's always fresh. Just about every time this beautiful young woman with a personality bigger than life remembers me and my order, It's genuine and rare. Went there for an early lunch today. Had a peanut butter cupcake, an iced maple latte and a ham and cheese sandwich. Everything tasted excellent. The atmosphere is relaxed and modern. The service was very friendly and accommodating. The facilities were spotless. I'd tried this place when they first opened and wasn't crazy about it but my opinion has completely changed. Positive addition to the South Royalton community. Yummy coffee, good atmosphere, and a good environment to sit and do work. The events on tuesdays and fridays are great for the community since the showcase awesome bands and great food. And no the music is not overwhelming. Their matcha latte is one of the best that I've ever had! The staff is always super friendly and are happy to recommend their favorite drinks if you're not quite sure what to get. It also serves awesome tacos on Tuesday nights and Upper Pass Beer on tap. Drove all the way from Boston to meet a friend here who had high praise for it. I have to say it doesn't deserve the hype. For one thing the owners and staff seem to have an exaggerated sense of their own importance in the way they interact with the public, especially with those patrons whom they don't already know, and it was clear that they knew 90% of the people that were there. The proprietors of this place were clearly drunk on their own "kool aid", which if I'm not mistaken is actually illegal and a violation of liquor licensing laws at least it is where I'm from. My recommendation is take your business elsewhere and be rewarded with all that VT has to offer, not with drunk hosts, arrogant facial expressions, general rudeness and beer that's largely brewed by another company in Stowe with their own label on it, which on top of the too cool attitudes just makes them all come across as poseurs! read more
