I went to first choice dental in Sun Prairie approximately 15 years ago for dentures. They began the work without first checking to find out the company they used at the time would not finance the work for me. They were too far along to just stop the work and I kept asking that they allow me to make payments to them. They had me go in for a meeting one day and informed me they were going to do the work at no charge. Fast forward to two years ago I went to them to make me a new pair of dentures. I was told I needed to see two different specialists because I would need a bone graft to insert some posts to hold the dentures. I was told I would receive a call from each of the specialists within a couple of weeks. My credit is good now and I had a good amount of savings so I was anxious to begin. However, they never asked me about how I could finance the work and their specialists never called me. I left several messages for the dentist I saw and she, too, failed to return my calls. I can only assume it was due to my past treatment being taken care of free of charge. The no charge work was offered to me. It was their decision. Now they won't let me pay for the work I need done. I was apprehensive about getting a dental cleaning and check-up due to COVID-19. I had an appointment in August, and the comprehensive safety protocols eased my fears. Thank you!! Also, I used to visit the Regent Street office when Dr. Sharkus was still practicing at that location. Every experience was pleasant. The hygienists, dentists, and front desk staff were awesome. I switched to the newer location on East Washington, which is closer to my home. WOW! What a beautiful space. The high ceilings and open airflow made for a very calming experience. Everyone I encountered was friendly, professional, and compliant in terms of safety measures. p.s. I am a very nervous patient, prone to fainting. The folks at First Choice Dental really listen. They are straight shooters and do not judge. I should know because I had a miscommunication with the doctor about my tooth, and was upset (I thought they had removed a tooth, but it was actually filler) and these folks responded with such professionalism and kindness that I feel overwhelmed. Gets the job done, but the dentist I had needs to work on patient interactions. There are probably other dentists there that have great rapport with their patients, I was just not lucky to get one I liked. Sadly, I don't see myself going back in 6 months. Pros: -Called and was able to make a new patient appointment within the same week: 2 days later! -Pleasant rep on the phone, was able to send me a reminder email -They also sent me the new patient forms to fill out online, but I chose to do it in the office (come about 30min early to do so). -Waiting area has a coffee machine and water cooler -A small table area for little kids -Very nice hygienist, personable, good listener, helpful, sincere in caring for my dental concerns -WiFi available, ask the front desk for password -Dentist was frank about treatment questions Cons: -new office location, no large outdoor signs to tell you where the office is in the plaza. (Once you find the door marked 258, go upstairs on the left then you'll see the dental office). -small waiting area, nothing special: not calming if you have anxieties dealing with the dentist or doctor visits in general, no real distractions for kids or big kids -DEAL BREAKER! Dentist need to have a better first impression and chair side manner with patients. (COMPLETE OPPOSITE of my previous dentist, made me miss him so much!) --1) no real introduction: didn't introduce himself to me before or after the exam. The hygienist told me but it didn't stick. --2) he never asked me if I had any questions or concerns. So I asked my questions, during which he was antsy to leave. This location on 1809 East Washington Ave has such a great spacious facility overlooking the Yahara River, lots of windows & high ceilings, dentist chairs that can have heat & massage turned on. The staff is friendly and professional, and take pride in doing things right. Hopefully next time this whole COVID thing will be under control. Right now we are to call first when we arrive, answer covid questions, then wait to be called back when the hygienist or dental assistant is ready and at the door to take the temperature. But in December it was COLD to have to wait outside or in the car for 5 minutes or more both times I was here this month. The waiting room is large with nobody in it. Is there any way one of the receptionists can take the temperature & let us sit in the waiting room (socially distanced, of course) until the hygienist or dental assistant can get us? read more

We have been clients at this location for 5 years, and 5 years before at the Fitchburg location. In general we have no complaints. They are friendly and patient with this forgetful mom with email reminders and personal calls. My kids love it there. They have a whole wall in the waiting room dedicated to the kids that visit including books and activities. They can get very busy at certain times of the year so please book ahead. read more

They have to fire the front desk lady. The lady is rude to customers and not trained how to communicate. Sometimes she is not polite and takes the customers to the edge so that they never turn back to this place again. The so called dental hygienists pretend that they are Dentists and give free advice on dental hygiene to everybody. They don't know it is their job to clean and not recommend expensive deep clean procedures. They are greedy. I caution people. They try to make business and do a poor job. What a scam! First off, I was asked what I wanted for today's treatments: cleaning and my partial repaired. Neither one happened. The appointment lasted 90 minutes. Not efficient. They told me that I needed a complete extraction and I said no, I just would like a cleaning. They were adamant about telling me how I need my teeth repaired and the cost. The did not listen to me one bit! The bill would have cost me over 7K. the funny thing is they did not offer to fill cavities at all. They went for what cost the most. The staff members at the First Choice--Corporate Drive location are very friendly but my last visit here made me decide to switch to a new dentist. The total exam time took 20 seconds. The dentist did not even look at all of my teeth and diagnosed me with a number of cavities, I assume by looking at x-rays. The hygienist asked the dentist later to look at another tooth that she hadn't looked at and she came back and said, "Oh yeah, that one needs a crown." No full exam, no explanation. It was a tooth they did a filling in last year. The cleaning took about four minutes total. The dentist recommended a $500 out of pocket dental night guard even though I told her that the one I got from pharmacy was working fine. I decided to pay out of pocket for a second opinion and a real cleaning at another clinic and I'm glad I did. The other dental clinic staff spent about two hours doing a full exam, including taking a full medical history, completing an oral cancer screening, checking my jaw, lymph nodes, and glands, checking my soft tissue and probing the depth of the pockets between all of my teeth and recording measurements, and letting me look at each of my teeth with a video camera. I'm sorry to say that these exams were never completed during my time at First Choice. First Choice mailed me another patient's dental records/x-rays by mistake. When my new clinic called to get the correct x-rays, First Choice emailed them over without getting verbal permission or a written release from me which they still do not have. When the new dentist checked my insurance compared to the x-rays that were sent, it appears that First Choice billed Delta Dental for x-rays they did not do. Lastly, the new dentist made different recommendations as far as treatment. First Choice gets an A+ for friendliness but low marks for competency, ethics, thoroughness, and following best practice guidelines. read more

At first they were great. After given an option for next treatment they refused to do it because the least expensive one was chosen. They work off commission (much like most dentists) so I could see why they refused but why give options on a print out if you refuse the service? They also switch up dentists so they can say that their "new" dentist isn't comfortable with doing the service. They are complete scammers who don't really look out for you, only your money read more
