I have been coming here for some time now. Today went in omg I feel bad I believe her name was Marisol or Maribel? She was the sweetest. Everything was going well except when we ran into a Karen! She happened to be there before we arrived we were waiting our turn. First she complained because the airplane seat was not clean enough without any hairs ( surprising huh in a kids hair salon) the employee did her best to try and clean up (note she was all alone doing everything) she offered her another chair but the lady refused. She then proceeded to as for a small trim with scissors only. Maribel said ok. She trimmed the little bit she could as she stated not too much then asked the mom if she can even out the back with the electric trimmer . Kid went a little off , understandable when it's their first time. The mom just told her to stop so the employee did. Then next thing we know the mom starts going insane saying she was rushed and stylist cut him twice. Which sorry if you pay more attention to your child and help position him things like this won't happen which I did not see any cuts but I wasn't examining the other child just trying to distract my little one from her yelling. She kept yelling at the employee and saying she always does a bad job and the other person is better. (So why didn't you book an appointment with them? Or if you claim this poor woman sucks.... Why didn't you stay) I told her to calm down and she tried raising her voice at me which I said nope not today. She ended up Leaving but the poor hair stylist ended up Shacking in tears. She kept crying saying she had done this job for 14 years! I tried to comfort her. Not even 2 min Mrs Karen returns to get her name managers names and make yet another scene. So sad. Look things happen and sometimes we don't like jobs but there is no need to yell at people and belittle them! I felt horrible and used this as a lesson for my munchkin not to do those scenes in public. Besides this sad experience which I hope the manager won't discipline the hair stylist we had a great amazing hair cut. My kiddo came out saying I look goooood! All happy and he got a lollipop he was very happy. Only advise I'd give the owner is don't boom every 15 min do min of 30 min to give the poor hairstylist time to clean up or hire someone to help them clean. Although it's a quiet plaza so maybe just give her a little extra time! read more

It was my first time here and had a terrible experience from the get-go. Made an appt for 10am but the store was still closed. Walked around a bit then came back to see a lady inside and she motioned me to wait while counting her cash from the register. Walked around some more then she finally opened. Seemed like she double-booked me and a different customer. If I hadn't come back first I'm pretty sure she would've served the other customer first regardless of us waiting with 10am appt time. Got my son in the chair 10:15ish and I asked her for the most simple fade haircut. It was so choppy and every time I asked her to fix it, it turned out worse so just accepted our fate. Paid. Left. First time here and was honestly disappointed. I told the hairdresser how I wanted my son's hair. It was simple, medium fade with #1 and the back of his hair squared off. She also thinned out the top of his hair for some reason. When she was done, I wanted her clean behind his ears but she was struggling and said he moved too much. So I just said nevermind. My son has been getting his hair cut since he was 8 months and he's over 2 years old. I've never had a bad experience before nor has a hairdresser blamed for anything. We waited an hour, just to have his hair messed up. Although she did give him a toy for the long wait. Now I have find a place a fix this and I'll end up paying double. We brought our daughter here for her first haircut and were a little worried she might get scared, especially after reading some of the reviews. However, she was completely distracted from the cute airplane seat and the TV. The stylist did a great job, and we've received so many compliments on her haircut at her school! The salon is located inside the PV Mall, right next to the PV Ice Rink. I think the space itself is a bit dated...with some worn-out seats that could use an update. The overall experience was great. The good: I got my daughter's first haircut here! She was scared and didn't want to climb into the cool airplane kids' seat but I held her on my lap in the adult seat and it worked out. I like how whimsical the space is with a rocketship game, free lollipops, toys for sale, TVs playing different kids' shows and videos, and an overall colorful and retro 50s- looking vibe with the checkered floors and a Nickelodeon feel with the green and orange colors. I liked how my girl's hair was styled with small flowers and two pigtails. The cut was quick and done with a spray water bottle. The free lollipop was clutch because my daughter was lured into sitting down with it. The bad: Its pricey at $28-29 for a toddler haircut. I called two days in a row during their operating hours and got no answer. I decided to go in person and saw a sign that said they were closed for a personal issue. It would've been nice if the voicemail box claimed so but perhaps it was a last minute emergency. The interesting: They want you to pay in cash. I've come here twice now for my 2-year-old's haircut, and both times were a disaster. Kiddo was crying and refused to sit in the little airplane chair, so I had to hold her for the haircut while she tried avoiding the hairdresser. Miraculously, they were still able to cut the squirming toddler's hair. The first haircut actually turned out pretty good, but the second one was a bit crooked. We brought my ~1.5 year old for his first haircut and it was so nice! He was scared and she worked with him and tried to make him as comfortable as possible. Lots of toys, that I saw her cleaning after he played with them. TVs at each station showing cartoons (including Bluey). Cool rocket chairs. He looks adorable! Although the woman running the front was very sweet and got us in without an appointment, my sons haircut was the worst I've ever seen. I had to take him somewhere else to have it fixed after paying $40 (tip included) for this. I couldn't tell how bad it was until I got home, because it was still wet when we left. He was excited to watch Paw Patrol and sit in the rocket ship chair, but the stylist came at his hair aggressively, started ripping a brush through it, spraying his hair with water without telling him what she was doing...she got hair all over him and he was so confused. I am not impressed at all. I have a daughter with curly hair. I booked a wash and cut as well as noted this is her first cut in three places (in the apt booking, when I called and in person) as they advertise making it a special experience by giving a lock of their hair and a certificate. First off the hair dresser noted the hot water isn't working as they can't wash... The hair dresser seemed to be rushing (maybe the move quick with kids I thought) but wasn't necessarily being gentle when combing out my daughter's hair. She has medium textured curls and she was yanking out the tangles dry- not spraying to comb through easier. When she was done I asked about the first time cuts certificate and lock of hair which she said nooooo we don't do that anymore.. so I quickly picked up a few pieces of her hair off the floor before she swept it up. I asked what product would be good with her type of hair and she noted two products that were on her station. A detangling spray which she said they don't sell and an oil which she didn't even put in her hair.... As a person in hospitality and customer service. It is really frustrating to get this kind of service. I'm not expecting the Sun moon and stars but simply what is advertised. Never yelp but was just really disappointed. Will not be back- read more

Great place and the lady always have a great attitude. However it is always packed and the poor worker has to double time it all the time. Wish the owner hires more ppl or at least 1 more that way the costumers don't wait too long. The only reason I go out of my way to come out is because the employee is always so nice on Saturday. Actually this place have improved. The staff is kind, friendly. Well mainly it was this one middle aged lady. I don't see any other staff there any more. We have been coming here for over 2 years now and their hair cut is ok. They charge $30+ 6 year old cut. Made an appointment for and got here on time but they had three people front of us. We had to wait 30 minutes since they were behind due walk ins they said. The lady was nice but I don't appreciate people not honoring appointment time due to walk ins customers to make more money. Take only walk ins if there is no point of making appointment. They should be more respectful of people time. The lady was working alone and customers kept coming in and she was rushing and didn't even dry my son's hair when I asked and didn't take time to clean his neck area after the cut. My son always had a full head of hair and has been getting his hair done since 6 months old! We have been to many best-rated hair salons geared toward children in OC as well as the South Bay, and First Cut 4 Kids is our favorite. I was a bit skeptical due to some of the negative reviews on here but I took a chance since they are so close to our new home. Clara has cut my son's hair a few times already and she does a fantastic job!! And the haircut looks even better as it grows out. That's how you know it's a GOOD haircut. People always compliment on my son's haircut. We like the haircuts so much that even my husband got a cut from her and honestly he looks 10 years younger?! Now I'm jealous, lol. We happened to be at Ruby's Diner and checked out the rink and literally just stumbled in. The owner was sweeping up and I asked if they took a walk in as son was long overdue for a cut. The mullet was driving me nuts. What's really cute about this place are the lil' rocket ships for the tiny ones and the video games. Perfect distraction for something my son abhors every 6 weeks. The franchise price is just a bit steep at $22 to chop a lil guy's locks but value added since son get's his gaming fix. (To Wii or not to Wii... I chose not to.) I'm giving it 4 stars because it was kind of pricey ($25 base for kids haircut), but I'm not going to go to a regular salon for my kid, so it's kind of par for the course. I'd highly recommend Clara who was very patient with my toddler son, and though the haircut didn't take very long, she really took her time and didn't rush. She says Mondays are their quietest day. Not only does no one here have experience with it (I thought beauty school/courses instruct all types of hair and styling? Maybe nobody here went) but they rudely will scoff when asked those questions. It's clear from most of the recent reviews that they also seem to lack class and or professionalism when dealing with customers. How can a business work with little kids where patience and good energy are key when they can barely address adults properly? Maybe diversity only goes so far here, which is unfortunate because options are already limited in the South Bay. I'd give 0 stars if I could. Maria is the best stylist at First Cuts! She has cut my son's hair since he was 5 year old and now he is 17 yr old teenager! They accommodate your time as walk in client if needed, and Maria is very talented. She makes sure the haircut meets every mom's inspection for every kid! Best place for my son who hates haircuts. I've taken my son 4-5 times since he was 1. They followed my directions using scissors first and razor at the end because he's afraid of the noise. He was comfortable (as he could be) and i was comfortable. I've taking him to other kid friendly, regular places and it was traumatizing. Maria was really sweet to him and even though the haircuts were not perfect because my son was impossible. i was satisfied with the service. it's also a little pricey and my son is ok with haircuts now but i'm still planning to bring him here. I am really torn about how to rate this place. I have two 3 year olds - one boy & one girl. My daughter has totally straight long hair...no bangs, no frills so I just take her to supercuts because my DH will only let me get her hair trimmed (not cut). The haircuts here are $22 (which sounds super expensive compared to $13 at supercuts! However, if you have a boy (or a girl with a real haircut) then this place is TOTALLY worth it. First of all, they use little airplanes & rockets as the kids chairs which are totally cute - all the decor is great in here actually. Bright white & orange and quite clean. They have little flat screens at each station and let you choose a DVD off their menu. Take my advice...ask for MARIA - she is the only one that I will let cut my son's hair! I made the mistake of letting someone else do it because I didn't want to wait for Maria and he got a really shitty haircut. I called back that afternoon to ask for the other lady's name and told the owner that she did a really bad job so she invited me to come back the next day to have Maria fix it at no charge. This place is horrible, my fiancee made an appointment here for my son's first haircut. I wanted to take him to a barber but she was scared he would be traumatized and not want to get a hair cut again and these people only cut kids hair. So I say okay, get to his appointment she chops his Pony tail off, cuts the sides with the clippers and trims the top with scissors. The sides look butchered and all one size I asked her to blend it in and give him a fade just like mine, she says yeah your right it does look a little long so she uses a smaller size and goes over the sides again but still doesn't blend it in. These people do not know what they are doing, they don't know how to clean up the sides so it makes the whole haircut look like shit. I had to rush him to a barber and get it tapered but they had already cut his hair too short on the sides for the barber to work with. For boys I would just go to a regular barber and girls a salon. Avoid this place at all costs. I do not know the name of the woman who cut his hair but from reading the other reviews it seems like no one at this establishment is cabable of cutting hair. read more

We were at the mall and I figured why not get my daughter a little trim. Clara was so sweet and great with my fidgety 4 year old daughter. She did a wonderful trim and even did an adorable mini style with twists and flowers. Clara definitely gets 5-stars! But the prices here are ridiculous. I have taken my son here for every hair cut but one haircut. Today, I want to specifically write about how awesome Jenny was in terms of interacting with my son and really giving him what I wanted in terms of a haircut. This would be his 5th or 6th haircut here, so they have how we like things on his record. Jenny read the record first and made sure this is what I wanted for him. Once she was done with him, she let me review her work and made whatever adjustments I wanted. I think that his current record doesn't reflect that we like more cut off the top these days. She was super careful about how much she cut and asked before cutting by showing me what would go in between her fingers. I would go to her again any time. My son even threw a mini-tantrum because he couldn't take some books that belonged to the shop with him and Jenny was so supportive and understanding. She helped me get him to cope a little better in order to part with the books. She was great with him and me! read more

For a $28 haircut, I would expect the stylist to take a little time in making sure that my sons hair is even. She totally used the clippers behind one ear and not the other. The bangs were cut so uneven and left longer than I asked. The only good thing is that they had actual seats for toddlers and the TVs for entertainment. I don't plan on going back again. read more

These guys are amazing. They treated my 19 month old like royalty. I was scared to take her in but after the rocket chair, animal crackers and movies, how could a kid be scared. After the cut they gave her a certificate of completion (very cute) and gave me a snip-it of her hair for my scrapbook. Trust me, these folks are very kid friendly and understanding of all the various tempers. One kid was there who pitched a fit but some how they were still able to work around it. The price is high but you aren't just paying for a cut. You are paying for atmosphere and experienced staff. I would pay the $25 again without a blink. read more
