This the second time taking the baby there the first time he was 4months old and it was fairly easy. He's 7months now and a lot more active... Up until two weeks ago, my 3 year old son used to hate getting his hair cut. Not only would he scream and cry, but his hair cuts turned out uneven because he couldn't stop squirming around in his chair. I am so thankful my friend recommended First Cut. It's a bit of a drive for me, but well worth it. This salon caters towards children and they have TV's, DVD's and video games to keep them preoccupied. My son loved watching Wonder Pets and for the first time, he did not cry! He was actually happy and surprisingly asked to go back the next day. The hair stylists all seemed equally careful and caring, and the best part is that the salon was very clean. I've been to a bunch of salons in my life, and this one is by far the cleanest I've ever seen. Had an appointment but they made us wait 35 minutes after we arrived. Our toddler isn't fond of haircuts but Jenny did an excellent job. Had an appointment with Rose but since she didn't like crying babies she was rude and switched us. We left something behind and came back for it and caught Rose complaining to another about our crying toddler. Whatever you do don't go to Jenny . Jenny works morning shifts 10-1 . My son got 2 bad haircuts from her. She chopped off all his beautiful curls and it is also uneven everywhere ( I will try to add a photo so you can see how bad it is) . Jenny is so rude as well on the phone and in person. She is rude to me and rude to her co-workers. Go to Maria she is so nice and does a amazing job ,Maria works the 1- later shift--- but be careful if you go at 1 and Maria is not their , Do not let Jenny touch your kids hair. I am giving this place one star because of the attitude shown by one of its employees. There are two - one with black hair lady (BHL) and other is blonde. BHL was rude and did not take time properly cut my kid's hair. She looked irritated that she needed to work. We went to this place more than a year ago & had a very bad experience with hair stylist named Jenny. After that we never went back. Every Time my son needed a haircut I drove all the way to Santa Monica to a kid friendly hair salon. Today, I didn't have enough time to make it to the westside & I figured I should give these guys another shot. First cut is located inside PV mall next to Ruby's & the ice skating place. Parking is incredibly easy. We walked in with no appointment. They were very welcoming & politely let us know the wait would be about 25 min. Hair stylist, Maria, was there. She cut 1 girl & 2 boys hair in just 25 min before it was our turn. She was super fast, so nice & friendly with the kids. & she really did a very nice job. My son cries everytime he cuts his hair, this time he was seating perfectly, didn't move & followed Maria's instructions. My son loves Maria. We had a really good experience this time & im so glad we went there today. The basic haircut is only $22 & if you get 10 haircuts your 11th haircut would be free. They keep that record on file with your phone number. This hair salon is very kid friendly, they have nice decorations. They have a rocket & 3 helicopters & regular chairs that are orange. Very happy & colorful. Will definitely go back to Maria again :) read more

For a kids' haircutting place, First Cut's ambience is much better than most. The place is clean and comfortable. Kids books are available and flat screen TV monitors are in every cutting station. Staff is nice. Only bad part was the actual hair cut. Our appointment was a Sunday, thirty minutes before closing. My son's hair was long enough for the stylist to work with; virtually a blank canvas. All she had to do was cut a bit of the bangs, thin and trim the sides and back. The stylist gave him a crooked bowl cut in the front, didn't thin out the sides (we couldn't tell at the time because his hair was wet), and the back was noticeably crooked, as if the stylist's head was tilted left the whole time. We asked her to fix it but she was making it worse. We gave up and paid our $26. A waste of money. read more

I'm so disappointed with my daughters haircut I had to cry. It was her very first haircut since she was born. she's turning 4 in a month and a half. I asked for a shoulder length hair cut and the lady cut her hair just right below her ear looking like a bowl cut. she actually cut it shoulder length first then she took an inch and a half part of her hair (that i thought she would layer) and cut it. After taking my niece to First Cuts for the second time, I decided it was time for a review. What a great place! Let me explain that Rebecca is four years old and has always flipped out (not in a good way) when my sister took her for haircuts. My sister's friend lives near PV and mentioned First Cuts last year...so we decided to try it. The salon itself is adorable (and clean!!!) and she has so much fun there--when we told her it was time for a haircut last weekend, she actually jumped up and down! There are video games and DVDs--they just keep the kids entertained so the grown ups can actually relax for a little bit. So I called earlier this morning to inquire about their $75 "First Cut Package" advertised on their website. I mentioned this package to her during the call and also mentioned that I wanted to give this as a gift to my godchild. She confirmed that they had gift cards for purchase. So here I am now at the RHE First Cut 4 Kids. The same lady whom I assume answered my call now tells me that there is NO package, and that they sell NO gift cards. She did acknowledge that she is aware of the website promoting this "package". We didn't have high expectations but we were hoping for a cut better than Super Cuts. We did not get this. My daughter's hair came out lopsided and uneven. Cute place! Great for first haircuts, but not the cheapest place to go to if you have more than one child. They treated my little ones with care which made their first haircut experience a great one. I guess what really sells this place is that they are visually appealing and tend to hire staff on the younger end (at least that was the case the last time I was there). Other than that, there's nothing super different about how they cut hair. I did appreciate the fact that they handed me an envelope with strands from my kids' first haircut. But after that initial first cut, I decided to save money and take them to a local place which has been wonderful since. read more

I didn't think it would be so easy for my daughter's very 1st hair cut. I initially took her somewhere else and she lost it and was screaming so loud in the salon, the stylist was afraid to even attempt a haircut. I decided to bring her in and Maria did such a great job of putting my daughter at ease. She was careful with the haircut and even tied her hair in super cute pigtails afterwards. Maria did a great job giving our son his haircut considering how much screaming and moving he was doing! She was very patient and kind, making sure we were satisfied with the cut before stopping. You have to be realistic and understand that if your kid hates haircuts and moves around like ours did, the cut is not going to be perfect. We were more than happy with the results. We took our one year old for his first real haircut on a Saturday (I say real because he's had one other that he didn't sit for and ended up getting half a haircut). It was like 45 to closing and we were the only ones there so no wait at all.They have the whole tv, rocket ship chairs, lollipop giving thing going on in order to get the kids to sit still which totally works. Clara was great w my little one, she said she's been there for about 6 months but perhaps she had experience else where because she was very patient and attentive to his needs. WOW! I cannot say enough good things about First Cut! Great environment for kids! My son was so excited to be sitting in a rocket and watch his favorite movie (Toy Story) that he forgot about the haircut! It helped a lot that we had an amazing stylist, too! Jenny was so patient, and kind.. I am so grateful to her for making his first haircut special and memorable. When I first came in, I showed her pictures I printed online of what I wanted and she listened! She really took the time to understand what we wanted and didn't make us feel like we were rushed. She got to know us (my husband, my son & I) by name and made sure my son was comfortable. She had us put him in this awesome rocket ship (instead of the usual boring hair-cutting chair) & asked us which movie our son liked off of a movie menu! He was so happy to be sitting in a rocket like his favorite character (Buzz Lightyear) and watch Toy Story he forgot he was getting a haircut! I totally thought he was gonna freak out and he actually sat quietly. He did squirm a little, but Jenny was soooo patient and kind with him. She talked to him the whole time and made sure with us that the length and everything was ok, too! She even let us get all the first haircut pictures and put aside a lock of his hair! Needless to say, his haircut came out great!! Perfect little surfer boy haircut EXACTLY as I described it! She gave him a sucker and a balloon and put his little curls in an envelope for me dated with his name on it and decorated with these cute little froggy stamps!! I cannot thank her enough! My experience here is mixed. We've been here 4x now and first 3 times was with Jenny. Jenny did a great job cutting my 3 1/2 yr old son's hair. Jenny is a sweet older lady who used to be a preschool teacher. Since every time we went at 10am, she was there, I think she works mainly in the mornings. Since my son started going to preschool every morning, I took my son in for a haircut in the afternoon last week. We got another lady and she did a horrible job. I wish I got her name to warn other people, but it was a lady with long blonde hair, curls on the sides. With all the TV shows you can watch like the Wiggles, my son was not moving at all. So she cannot blame the bad hair cut job on him being difficult. Believe me, he was stiff like a zombie. Well, when we were walking out the door, she came back and said she needs to fix something on the back. So she did. That should have been a warning sign... The thing that really bothers me about salons is that they put gel on kids' hair. It may look good when you walk out, you never know if the hair cut is actually straight or not until you wash your child's hair. So, after washing his hair, I saw that it was a total disaster. The back wasn't short enough and his bangs were straight, like one of those old school Asian "put a bowl on your head" hair cut and it was crooked. This was after $22 plus a $5 tip!! I really wanted to go back to have them fixed, but knowing that we can't get Jenny (since I can't take him in the morning anymore) I've decided to pay another $20 to get his hair fixed elsewhere. This time, it came out much better and the lady who fixed his hair had to cut off a lot in the back. This proves that the other lady didn't cut much in the back at all. So, after $27, what did she actually do??? Other than giving us a horrible hair cut, I have no idea. We won't be going back there again...unless we can go there in the morning. read more

Took my 3 year old boys there. Three stars for one decent haircut (a nice older lady w/glasses) but 1 star for the other one (another lady). This lady wasn't as good w/kids in general and a tiny bit rough. I tried to tell her that I wanted the front a little long a few times so he wouldn't have a bowl cut. We left alright b/c his hair was gelled, but after he took a bath, he suddenly looked like friar tuck/jim carrey from dumb and dumber, dammit! They had a 50% off new management promotion so I would've been pissed if I had to pay full price for that cut. We went 2-3 years ago (w/nicer staff) and also got a bad cut. First of all, this place is soooo cute- it's really perfect for kids! It's very colorful, bright, has all kinds of things that kids love- like TVs, video games, DVDs, books, etc. It even has rocket ships that the kids can sit in while they get their hair cut--which is so cute. I really love how clean this place is too--it makes me feel better to take my son somewhere clean and neat. They do a great job with cutting kid's hair (which is not easy!) and I've found that all the stylists I've tried are equally good. At first I thought it was a little expensive for a hair cut for a kid- but then after seeing all the amenities and seeing how much my son likes being there (which is a huge relief for me), it's totally worth it. read more

There were two kids being served and supposedly they were expecting two more clients half an hour later. I took my 16-month old son here today and it was such a great first haircut experience for him! And for me, too! Maria is awesome! She was so patient and gentle with him and always making sure he was comfortable before doing anything with his hair. My son usually can barely sit still for more than a few seconds, but he was able to sit still the entire time of his haircut! My son loved everything about this place and he didn't even want to leave. Customer service is excellent and Maria really made my son feel so comfortable. I love how the salon is totally decorated just for kids and they really know what kids love. Oh, and since this was my son's first haircut, Maria was so kind...she saved some of his hair from her first snips for me! He even got a balloon!
