I have a low tolerance for insurance sales pitches and was impressed that Carl genuinely put himself in our shoes and did not simply look for opportunities to get higher premiums from us (in fact, many of his recommendations actually lowered our overall insurance costs). The owner of this franchise, let's call her 'W' had an employee, let's call her 'A' who worked very hard for her but ultimately decided to quit to pursue alternative employment elsewhere. A did her best and put in long hours for W, and was very popular with the customers she helped. She was a conscientious diligent worker for Liberty, and the corporate entity even paid her for writing marketing/tax pieces for their website, but as a single mother supporting three children she wasn't earning enough from W despite helping her increase and grow her business. In fact, what W paid A was an embarrassment. So A left of her own volition (against W's wishes) to work through an employment agency in a payroll position with a large company with employee benefits that she wasn't previously getting. After several months of working through the agency the company wanted to hire A as their own employee as they were very pleased with her work. This was when I was asked to provide a reference for A because I have known her for many years. References are often the very last thing a company checks on, usually after they have hired someone - it is just a formality that's undertaken, not an actual part of the selection process it's more concerned with due diligence. I provided my reference and A also provided her previous employer W as one. What happened next I cannot account for, and appears to be one of the most spiteful acts by a former employer I've known - as W got A fired from her new job because W falsely made claims not only about the nature of A's departure, but also her working ethics & ethos, and flat out told the company she would not employ A. On the basis of W's behavior, I would not choose to conduct business with such a mean-spirited and selfish individual, and especially so within the realm of financial services, where you would hope to be engaging with honest, trustworthy and well-intentioned individuals. When I originally called, the person I talked to couldn't even find the quote and after explaining that an agent had actually emailed me she managed to contact the agent who tried to get in touch. The agent was busy and called back a few hours later and spoke to my husband. I was extremely surprised to find out that nationwide doesn't cover homeowners insurance in craven county especially since they actually gave me a price for the policy online. If you're shopping for insurance don't bother with them. You will be wasting your time.
