The woman who cut my hair today really f*cked my hair up. I started by showing her a picture of the style I wanted which is a basic medium length texture fringe. I don't think it's a language barrier because we were both speaking Chinese. She started buzzing, I don't question how barbers/stylists use their techniques as long as they get the job done. However, she kept buzzing more and more and I a bit confused and realized a bit too late she was basically buzzing everything off and just leaving the top. What I asked for was trim the back and sides, leave the top. I'm a patient guy, so I thought maybe this fade cut she is doing might turn out looking decent, or half decent at least. Something I can work with? Nope. It was piss poor, uneven, and crooked. The sides and back were buzzed leaving a blotch of hair looking like a badly shaped bowl cut (Bowl cuts aren't uneven). I looked and felt like a clown. I could have buzzed all my hair myself or had a friend/family member cut it and it wouldn't have been this bad come on now. I was too embarrassed to examinee how bad the hair was and I'm usually polite in public so I didn't make a fuss. When I got home, I confirmed that the hair was really awful. This was a horrible job and a waste of my money. I'm not sure how you can get away with doing such a terrible job and why did I even pay for it. I wish I took more pictures of the haircut but honestly it was so bad I didn't want to look at it myself but I have one for proof. I have to attend a wedding in less than 3 weeks and you really fcked it up. I buzzed my hair with a #3 guard when I got home and I don't look like a clown anymore. I'm not sure how you have customers if you mess up hair like that. EDIT: I really should have checked the reviews but I didn't imagine a haircut this bad. Interestingly enough, other people have had awful cuts here and I wonder how many did but didn't make a post about it. read more

The reviews on here are so bad that I didn't want to even try it but I have tried most of the salons on 86th and I was like oh well how bad can it get. My wash was amazing, my hair needed that intense long wash that I am too lazy to do. Then my haircut with Amy was the best. I loved my simple one length cut that's looks easy to do but it's not because the front is longer than the back. The customer service-first class. It was a stressful day and this is exactly what I needed, a quick pick me up for a great price! read more

By far the worst hair cut I have gotten all my life. I went in and asked for a hair cut and I got seated down to the last guy on the left (by the hair sink & coat hangers). All I asked for my ends to be trimmed. I had medium long hair, right under my collarbone. I've always had straight blunt cuts because I never really liked the layers look. I was worried on how he was cutting my hair because of the different angles he was cutting. Usually they comb my hair down and start chopping. He left my hair so choppy and full with ugly blocks layers. I was so angry and annoyed I just wanted to pay and leave. I just went somewhere else to get it fix. I love coming here for a wash and blow dry! This salon takes there time when it comes to washing the scalp and it's taken me years to find a hair-washer that does that!!! So far the two hairdressers that have done my hair have left it flawless and the blow-dry always lasts me for about a week! Last but certainly not least the price for my hair is about $15 but with tip to my hair dresser and the wash lady it'll come out to $25 which is still a steal!!!!! I just wish they had an option for card for payment instead of just cash only! read more

John did my hair today, I have curly hair and he doesn't know how to deal with curly hair; if you're working at a salon you should know how to manage all hair types. He started my hair but brushing top to bottom.. you don't do that. That's how you get breakage and weak hair. He then continued to yank me out of the chair because of how hard and fast he was brushing my hair and he screamed " ITS HARD TO BRUSH". I understand that but do you have somewhere to be? This is like my tenth times coming back to Mon. She is amazing. She does my hair to perfection and she takes her time and never rush. This time I did color and oil treatment too. I'm Asian and have natural thick dark hair. I did my own hair at home with help of a friend. Lesson learned not good. It didn't come out blonde but copper like. Omg!! I came to the pros at First Hair. The colorist is named Jay. She is honest and tell you if a color is achievable. I wanted natural blonde without harsh bleaching. She did my hair and took her time. We did ended using a little bit of bleach. But only so lightly. It came out so beautifully. I LOVE it!!! The oil treatment restored my luster so that was great. I got a cut from Mon last and of course that is great as always. I got a great price for everything. I will never need to find anyone else for the rest of my life. read more

I live in Manhattan, but I will try to go into Bensonhurst for a haircut at First Hair & Beauty. Each time I am there I would request for a wash and I have a different hair washer every time but they are all very friendly. They try to start conversations with me as I relax and they deeply clean and massage my head. When I'm there I look for Cindy, who has been cutting my hair for quite some time now. She does an excellent job and mostly uses the scissors to cut my long hair. Besides the way she cuts my hair, she is very experience and does a very fast job. When everything is finished, I also get my eyebrows done in back of the salon. Everything seems to be very clean there and I'm happy with their service. It costs me around $30 for my hair to be done and I will tip them a well. read more

FIRST HAIR? They need to change their name to WORST HAIR. Been getting my hair cut by Cindy for about 20+ years. Followed her from another salon. If I'm not mistaken I think she's the owner of this place. In the last 2 decades her "skill" and customer service have gotten progressively worse. Same for the other employees. Carrying on conversations while you get a shampoo, talking and interrupting each other while they're chopping off your hair. I've had my hair cut by at least 2 others. One guy actually watched tv while cutting my hair. I get the same chopped cut no matter who I go to or what I ask for. I see people walking out with uneven hair as well. I'm angry at myself for continuously giving these people the benefit of the doubt and I'm angry that they keep taking clients' money without giving even half a decent service. I've been coming here for years. The service and haircuts have gone way down. My last haircut was three days ago and I went to John. Let me tell you, he chopped my hair up. I have a basic Bob cut with baby bangs, easy pleasy. Unfortunately, he gave me a uneven A_line one side is longer than the other. If I can give a negative star rating I would. Very very displeased with the service I received.I asked for them to make my hair a burgundy color and they gave me neon purple I told them I hated it and they told me to come back tomorrow and they'll fix it. I went back and they told me it was 50. I was absolutely furious that they wouldn't fix the mistake they made for free. I reluctantly paid but didn't tip. Never again. read more

They were talking about shopping while washing my hair and one of them showed the women who was washing my hair a picture, she stopped and discussed with the other women what she should buy. And it was not comfortable or relax at all. Everything look old and dirty. The men who cut my hair and my bf's hair was.....bad. He cut my bf's hair so ugly and unbalance and said that's the way it should be. So stupid. He charged me $25 for cutting my bang and 15 for cutting the unbalance hair for my bf. I gave him 50 in total which was expensive. Other salons are cheaper with good service. Trust me, really bad service. Don't ever go there. read more

Hit & miss every time I go...Mon cuts my hair, she does a decent job but it's always the same cut & style so lately I've just been asking for a trim to freshen it up...I have been going every 3-4 weeks to dye my roots & I've paid a different price every time...why is that? The first time I dyed the whole head, that was $85.00 & it included the cut & blow...then when I went for the 1st touch up I was told $25.00 & that included a blow-out (I didn't want it cut), but when I went to pay, Mon charged me $45.00...I paid it because I didn't want to start an argument over $20.00 but I was very annoyed...the girls in the back say one thing then when you get to the front it's something else...the other times I've gone for a wash/cut/blow I don't always get the head/neck massage just the shampoo, don't know why that is... read more
