Things started off on the wrong foot almost immediately. While I was simply checking the size of the uniform, holding it up to see if there was a difference in the width, an employee came over and snatched the second pair out of my hand as if I was trying to take something I shouldn't have. It was not a great way to start when I had barely gotten in the door. Next, the layout was also really confusing. The spa is spread across multiple floors with different sections and stairways, but no one explained where anything was or how to navigate the space. I spent a lot of time in the morning trying to figure out where I was and it felt like I was nosing around someone else's house: uncomfortable. The biggest issue, though, was communication. A woman in the locker room offered my niece and me a deal for two massages for $140 ($70 each) and asked me to send the money through Zelle. I sent $170, including what I thought was a generous tip of over 20%. She arranged the appointment, but I didn't confirm what type of massage I wanted. I foolishly assumed they would ask before starting. We had lunch beforehand - the food was delicious and the portion was huge. Unfortunately, they don't offer to-go boxes, so I needed to reschedule our massages in order to finish my meal. Before even finishing my meal, I went to the massage counter to see if we reschedule our appointments. A younger patron helped translate at the massage desk, but she needed my time slot and took it for herself. She told me the woman would help me reschedule and then left. When I tried to figure out my new time, the interaction felt rushed and dismissive. I was given time without being asked if it worked for me, and when I asked about other options, I was told there were none. I would have cancelled but had already paid, so I took the L. When it was finally time for the massage, we were taken back without anyone asking what type of massage we wanted. I realized my mistake because it was a much more intense massage style and is not my preference. At that point though, after so many rushed and uncomfortable interactions, I honestly didn't feel comfortable advocating for myself to tell them I wanted reflexology. The final issue happened while I was changing before leaving. The same woman who arranged the massage came over and told me I hadn't paid enough tip. I was confused because... it was a tip. She told me I owed another $20 and (to add insult to injury) that I couldn't get my license back from the front desk until I paid. That brought the tip to over 35% on a service I didn't choose and didn't enjoy. I came to King Spa looking for rest and relaxation, but instead left feeling like I had spent my hard-earned money somewhere that never quite felt comfortable and certainly not welcomed.

The pools aren't as varied as Aire but the salt water pool was the only one I really missed. It would be very helpful if the pools and saunas had some signs or descriptions. What was particularly disappointing was that I observed her interacting with other patrons in a similarly unpleasant manner. While waiting outside, I also overheard other patrons leaving the establishment and expressing complaints about the same staff member. We then experienced another issue upstairs at the rooftop pool around 1:40 p.m. A female staff member with slicked-back hair in a bun, approximately 5'2"-5'4", questioned our presence in the pool area and told us that my son and I were not permitted to use the pool area or seating past 3:00 p.m., despite the fact that we had purchased full-day passes. This interaction left us confused and uncomfortable. Thankfully, the other staff members we encountered afterward were much more pleasant, welcoming, and professional. Overall, this was extremely disappointing, especially because I had intentionally planned this experience to celebrate my son's birthday and spend quality time together. Bathhouse promotes itself as a relaxing, comfortable, and welcoming destination, but unfortunately, our experience did not reflect that image. I hope management takes these concerns seriously, particularly regarding staff professionalism, communication, and the treatment of guests. Aire had a wonderful onboarding with a detailed explanation of everything available and where to go for it. The massages were mostly rub-downs and were very relaxing (I fell asleep during mine) but not therapeutic, per se. Aire also has salt scrubs you can do, which is a nice touch, and overall the pools are immaculately maintained during the day. So if you're deciding between the two and have enough money to go to either, I recommend spending a touch more on Aire. It's worth the difference.

Despite the inconvenience, the staff remained professional, organized, and did their best to keep everything running smoothly. I really appreciated the effort. We purchased the VIP Experience (Monday-Thursday, entrance between 12-1 p.m.) for $138, and it was absolutely worth it. It included unlimited access to all of the spa amenities for the entire day, plus access to an exclusive private lounge on the top floor. We could order food and drinks, and the staff delivered everything directly to us in the lounge. I believe there are 14 different spa experiences, and we made it our mission to try every single one--multiple times! We spent the entire day there and enjoyed every inch of the facility. My favorite experiences were: The Grand Banya The Cold Plunge The Snow Room The Himalayan Salt Room And my absolute favorite--the Event Sauna Ritual The Event Sauna Ritual was incredible. It's a 30-minute aromatherapy experience that promotes circulation and relaxation using hand-tied oak leaf bundles and snowballs infused with essential oils. This group experience was very invigorating and therapeutic you leave the room feeling completely refreshed and relaxed. It was honestly one of the highlights of the day. Compared to an actual Korean spa, you have to bring your bathing suit. They have changing room areas all around the locker room. The inside has a ton of showers (both Korean style and American). They have an indoor sauna in the girls side and a couple hot tubs. Then you can go out to the outdoor areas. They had a cold waterfall. There were also several unisex hot tubs. This place also has a quiet area to lounge, several saunas with different medical properties, and a gym. The amenities here can go on and on. They definitely balance health with adding a coworking space. It's also interesting they have an infinity pool that shows NYC from the rooftop. The place also has a seasonal grill area and other food court options so you don't have to leave.
