She said I don't Wanna do it ok that's fine lady but don't be fckn looking at my daughter the way u did and make the comments u did.. My boyfriend likes to come here to get his hair cut and eye brows waxed.... I just follow him to get my eyebrows and upper lip waxed once in a while. My personal experience with waxing, I do not like waxing but gotta get it done because I'm naturally hairy due to my blood culture. I honestly forgot to give a review for this place a long time ago, but I still remembered them and this place just crossed my mind. I'm in the mainland now and it's so hard to find a place where I can get my haircut and color done. When I was thinking about a place that was affordable and nice I automatically thought about this place. When I do come back to Oahu and think about where I want to color my hair, I'll come back here! Gave them 2 stars in consideration during this time due to covid I understand there's not much staff available to do certain services, BUT I waited for 40 or more minutes to just get my eyebrows waxed and I even booked an appointment. They serviced my boyfriend first for his haircut and I waited on the side for them to service me. I counted the time and about 30 minutes I started to get agitated, I noticed they had 4 staff members that could've told me that I had to wait for the employee who was cutting my boyfriends hair in order to get my service done but no one talked to me, instead I felt disregarded and at the end I walked out. My boyfriend was happy with his haircut but I'm still in disbelief at this salon, I would've given them a one star but I'm taking in the fact that right now is a hard time for every small business owner. read more

First of all the sign outside that says $16 something is not the real price. DO NOT COME HERE!! I used to come here when I was a child and since I've been wanting to cut my hair since I came back to Hawaii, I've been looking for a good low cost hair salon. This place showed up on yelp and I thought I'd go walk in. They told me that the price outside isn't accurate. So I was like okay. I started off with long layered hair and wanted to go short, but I only wanted 2 inches off. For layered it's $35 and for straight cut it came out to $20. So I was like okay, I'll just straight cut it. The lady that did my hair was rude. I gave her a compliment on her hair and all she said was "ya it's layered" in a rude way. She had bad service. I don't know her name but she has long brown hair and is young. The only time she was nice was when I gave her a tip. I Wouldn't recommend this place and I see why people don't come here. See Anna when you go here. She takes time and I've never had to "re-touch-up" my hair when I get home. She cares. A haircut for a man, a simple cut with all the goop to make you look sharp and ready to take on the crowd or a meeting, etc. is $13. I use to go to Avada at Ala Moana for my cuts and pay $60 Anna is just as good, though no massage or washing. Tip 25%. That's $3. That's a really fair tip and brings your total to $16 for the best on Island. Avoid Super Cuts, Avada, and the other high-priced places on Island where it's hit-or-miss on a good cut. I used to go here more regularly because they usually do a good job of cutting my Asian hair nicely and quickly. It also wasn't that crowded and it's pretty cheap. However, there is one barber there who I really don't like getting. In the middle of my haircut, she should walk away and chitchat with a coworker for a minute or two. She doesn't hesitate to answer the phone when it rings, and I'm just sitting in the chair waiting for her to finish. I'd let it go if it didn't happen almost every time I got her, so I only go if I'm in the area and happen to need a haircut. I'll skip out if I see that barber too. read more

One of the ladies that cut my hair was having a bad day I think cause her face seemed mad. While she was cutting my hair I asked her if she could make it shorter, then she replied; "that's why I asked you before" I got mad, but didn't say nothing, I just laughed silently. At the end, I went to pay, I only had my card though. It was another different lady cashing out then the one that cut my hair came and they talked in their own language for a while and then she said it was ok, so when they handed me the receipt I put $0 as tip. And then the receptionist said; "you can put tip" so I replied; "I could but she didn't do good job, look". I showed her my pointy hairy sides. She didn't clean it, only made it pointy. This place is good for haircuts for kids and adult basic cuts. The people are friendly and the service is good. They take their time cutting your hair and listen to how you want your cut to look. Have been to Don Q a handful of times and never saw this place, but decided to get a wax here since the location seemed convenient. My mistake. I woke up the next morning with a large scab on my face. She had not only waxed off unwanted hair, but also a good deal of skin. Initially it was red but I thought nothing of it since the redness usually goes away, however now I am just praying for no scarring. I do not recommend this place for waxing at all. A friend of mine recommended me to this place...She's got great hair so I thought why not? I'm use to going to high end salons where a person would not pay less than $100 for a haircut (not including tip)...so you can imagine my worry when I arrive at this place. It looks like a super cuts but only with Korean ladies working. Everyone was really friendly greeting me when I entered. As soon as I sat down Jackie asked what I wanted done and I showed her a picture. She started cutting right away! My thoughts - no hair wash or conditioning? What about a scalp massage that I always look forward to?? Oh well. The only thing that mattered then was the final product which I totally loved! She's a great stylist and I have never been happier with my hair. She did exactly what I wanted and in that case I am forever giving up shampooing, conditioning and the scalp massage! That's coming a lot from someone like me so I must be a happy camper! I will absolutely return here and of course to Jackie! Oh and the haircut only came out to $20?! I came to Hawaii about 2 years ago. I love short hair, but I have very, very straight and fine hair. When I was ready to have my hair cut, I went to a beauty salon near me. I asked for a cut, but the lady who was very nice, seemed to be was afraid to cut as short as I wanted. The perm I got was OK. A few months later I went to the same lady and the same problem. Since the perm didn't last very long due to the nature of my hair, I asked for a little bit tighter perm! Big mistake! The perm was way over the top! This time I literally looked like Little Orphan Annie! She didn't even bother to dry my hair. The look may be great if you are a 10 year old cartoon character, but not when you are a heavy set woman pushing 60! After that experience I sort of let my hair grow out. A little more than a year later, I couldn't stand my hair and decided to give First Hair Cuttery try. They appeared to be used to short hair styles as they also cut men's hair. I was a little *gun shy" but I made an appointment. The ladies there were very friendly and greeted me with a smile as I walked in. Since I didn't know any of the stylists there I just told them I needed to have my hair cut short. Jackie guided me to her station and asked me how I wanted my hair cut. I told her really, really short. After shampooing my hair, she pointed out a picture to gage how short I wanted it. She was spot on! She cut my hair and started with the perm. Another lady stepped up and helped with the rolling, which really speed-ed up the process. After the perm was finished, Jackie did the second cut. She was so professional and I finally had the hair cut I wanted! I really felt good when I left. The final surprise came when I was ready to pay. It cost me half the price of my first hair cut and perm, 2 years ago! I was expecting over a $100 including tip, as I had paid so many times in the past. The cost was inexpensive and and I got the hair style I wanted! I am thoroughly delighted with this shop and will definitely return when my hair starts to grow out in a couple of months! I was referred to this salon years ago by my friend. I needed to get my hair styled for my 10-year high school reunion. At the time, my friend referred me to Esther, who did a wonderful job curling my hair. After that, I went back to her for haircuts. Then one day when I asked for her, staff told me she didn't work there anymore and I was kinda sad. They introduced me to Jackie though, who is just as good as Esther. I usually just get a v-shaped/layered haircut. I've also had my hair cut by Chong recently and I am just as satisfied. I even referred my boyfriend to this salon since his regular spot in town closed a few years ago suddenly. He sees Chong for his haircuts. Once, he "cheated" on Chong and went to a nearby salon that opened up where we live because we had a funeral to go to and he desperately needed a hair cut. Big mistake!
