I needed to find someone to do my color that wasn't a revlon user (personal preference feels cheap) he was quick with response times to schedule an appt and I sent him photos of what I wanted. His approach is diff than what I'm used to but 2 days later after letting the color set, it actually matches! Pretty damn near! I texted him an issue I had and Recommended a tool for my Problem! I've been looking for a regular hair salon for myself and ran into this place while trying to find one for my son when he needed a super last minute haircut. I called and got an appointment within the hour and we got down there fast like lightening ! Located across the lot from the festival marketplace in Waipahu, next to where Sato Okazuya was (it closed down a couple of weeKs ago) so despite my sadness that Sato is gone, it looks like there is light ahead!! My son got Toney, and he liked his haircut and found him to be very easy to talk to and very personable. (Son is 16, he usually says he doesn't know what to talk to a hairstylist about). It was fast, but exactly what my son wanted and no complaints here at all. It was $17 for his haIrcut which is very reasonable. The salon is clean, and there's lots of parking right out front The place gives you that feeling like you're welcomed and you can see going there indefinitely. Comfortable, cozy, warm and friendly. I have thick, coarse hair, which is hard to manage, unless layered and thinned out on top and on the sides. I have the back shaved half way up. Toney is great. I am very low maintenance, so I see him once a year. (I should be coming more frequently since I'm always flat ironing...split end city!) I've had my kids get their haircuts here and they are very comfortable with him. He talks story with you so it makes the time fly. He does do a bunch of services other than the usual cuts, such as color, brazillian blowout and japanese straightening. I had questions on what product he uses for the japanese straightening because I had mines done somewhere else with less than desirable results. He mentioned that he buys the product prior to the service so that it is not sitting on the shelf, and its "fresh". I appreciated hearing that cause its not every day someone comes in to do something like that and you don't want "stale" product in your hair right? The parking is the only gripe I have but Toney has been here for so long, you gotta suck it up and deal with it. Since I work throughout the week I can only come on Saturdays and I'm glad I made an appointment earlier in the week because there were walk ins and I waited only a short time til I was seen. Two years ago, I entered a salon with hair down to my butt, with a specific hair cut and side shave in mind. I left with half my head shaved in a weird diagonal cut with shoulder length hair that I eventually had to fix by shaving all my hair off. Today I walked into Tony's with the same hair cut in mind. Not only did he know exactly what I was talking about, he gave me ideas for the shave, going for a burst fade instead of a regular ol shave. Also, he works fast! I found out about this place from my gf. Whenever she gets her hair done, I'm always impressed how this guy Toney makes my gf look. So she took me and got a haircut there. Located in old historic Waipahu, this place is surrounded by many historic landmarks.. for example, the old sugar mill, the old Big Way (now Indoor farmer's market), Shiro's, Arakawa's, and the infamous "S-ROAD" Oh the childhood memories. I step in this place wondering if Toney can make me look as good as how he makes my gf looks, but then I realize that Toney is a hairstylist and not a plastic surgeon or weight loss guru. So It's my turn for a haircut and he ask me how I want it. I tell him in 5 words, and he gets to work. And in less than 10 minutes: BAM! Amazed of the haircut, I stared into the mirror and smiled silently. He did a very good job. He did such a good job that I decided to bring my 2 year old son for a messy mo-hawk style. Went to N-Style By Toney for a long overdue haircut (my split ends were beginning to have split ends). My appointment was scheduled for 3:30 but Esther took me about 15 minutes early. She was extremely friendly and made me feel very welcome. It felt like talking to an old friend. The cut was only $25. I didn't want him to have only one review cause that is lame .. so I had to add one, too. Toney is great. His salon is a nice, clean and well kept family operated business. I had long hair that I would just tie up and back and even that got to be too much. I got out of the military recently and had to find a 'civilian' barber that I could develop a consistent rapport with and would be able to keep the hair tame and the wife happy about my tame hair. Where else to turn but Yelp. As always, Yelp, or rather, all the reviews on Yelp, delivered. Toney is easy to talk to, a great barber (or stylist as the ladies call him) and knows what he is doing. He understands fairly well the best way to shape your hair based on your head shape and pretty much cut my hair exactly the way it should be cut the first time I saw him. Most guys don't really get too much in to describing the style thing to their barber (at least I don't), just 'Make it shorter' generally works for me, and Toney happily and easily delivered without me having to go into a 5 minute diatribe on how I wanted my hair cut. Nice job Toney. I've gone back 3 or 4 times now, and I don't even have to describe how I want it cut. He just turns it into a solid haircut that works for me. (and keeps the wife happy) It's kind of hard to find, and if you search for it based on Google Maps, it will take you to the entrance to the shopping plaza that is 'exit only'. The best way to describe it is, it is in the 'Waipahu Depot' shopping plaza that you access via Waipahu Depot Street off of Farrington Highway. Ignore the instructions from Google Maps that say it's on Hanawai Circle. That is the back side of the plaza and you can't get in the parking lot that way. Just go Mauka from the Waipahu Depot / Farrington Intersection and it's in the shopping plaza on the left on the Makai side of the parking lot. read more

Went to correct my brassy hair color to a nice blonde.. but left with very dark ash brown (almost black) hair. So disappointed in the outcome and price I had to pay for this. I even had to go back in to get a missed spot of blonde toned. My hair is not only dark but is left more damaged than ever. The next day I went in to Ts hair and nails (my usual salon) to get all the dead ends removed. I really regret not going to Ts hair salon first. :( but the stylist was friendly ***Update 5/10/13 So I washed my hair last night and I noticed some of the toner was washed off as well. This morning when I went out in the sun, my hair color got lighter. It's not the blonde I wanted but it's a lighter brown. Hopefully over time my hair will fade to a lighter or darker shade of blonde. So I feel a lot better now then I did when I left the Salon 2 days ago. My only major complaint is a section of my hair is a lot lighter then the rest because the stylist ran out of toner and had to make a new batch for that section. So that section of hair had less time to tone then the rest. But my overall review is I'm not completely satisfied but I am starting to adjust and like my hair color. read more

I love going to Toney. He is very reasonable and good at what he does. He is also very friendly and social. I was new to the island as well and consulted YELP to find a good stylist. Great Job. Cute little shop, even though parking is atrocious. His mom comes in to help with side jobs, shes really cute even though she doesnt speak much english. The only downfall: He is the one and only stylist and sometimes has 3 clients going at once. So sometimes your in there for a while before he gets back to you.
