Five stars to Diane and Mylee at First Impressions!! My hairstylist cancelled last minute and I felt I could not go another day without a haircut. It was Friday afternoon and Diane, who answered the phone, worked hard to find a stylist who could take me last minute. Mylee offered to be available at 5pm and gave me the cutest cut - exactly what I wanted!! The salon itself is cute, with a relaxed vibe, and the other people working there seemed happy as well. Calling to make an appointment was a little weird. I don't know why there's a front desk if they don't know the staffs schedules. I would call, and they would hang up and call me back, or leave me on "hold" and I would hear them on the phone with the staff member for an appointment. I requested a pedicure, and the pedicurist was nice. I was looking forward to the massage chair. I wasn't offered to use it so I assumed they weren't massage chairs, until the person next to me had it turned on by another pedicurist. The service was pretty cut and dry. It's been a hot minute since I've been in a salon/spa so I did wish I was told these artists took cash only, when I asked if card was okay the response was kind of rude but it was fine, I had cash. This salon is great; I'm a long time client of Katie, but I saw Carla on a whim yesterday because I colored my hair a bit too dark at home. She was nice enough to stay after the salon closed to accommodate me & was really friendly & personable. She was able to do a really nice job on a cut & color in a minimal amount of time. Honestly everyone that works here is super friendly & really knowledgable about hair. Pricing here is also very reasonable as well. read more

I have used Carla before for a cut & color a few time & she did a good job with that being said... I will never use her again! I walked in yesterday to asked her when she could get me in for a cut & color & she today at 11:30, I was happy with that. I went in today 5 minutes early & she was just starting to put foil on a client, ok my appt is at 11:30‍ I asked her how long before she'd be ready for me & she said 15 mins (which I didn't see how that was going to happen). I live 5 minutes away & got a notification that a very important paper was delivered, I was going to tell her I'd be right back but she wasn't with her client so I asked her client to tell Carla I'd be right back, figuring she still was in foil. I literally was gone 7 minutes. I walked in & she texted me she couldn't take me . I texted her saying I was in the lobby. I strongly recommend Scott Whitesides for haircuts. He's new to the shop, with limited hours, but he's cut my hair for over 25 years at his previous shop. It always looks good from day one to the next haircut (for me, six or seven weeks out). I'd recommend him especially if you have "difficult" hair like mine, thick and wavy, hard to keep looking good. I've never had my hair professionally done other than Supercuts. Tami was patient, kind, and calmed me down from the minute I walked through the door. I was nervous about the initial idea I had in mind and she was constantly reassuring me and making sure I was happy with everything as we went along. I recently moved to Benicia post grad and was looking around for a new hairstylist. After reading reviews, I made an appointment with Mylee Do at First Impressions and I am so happy with my cut. We chatted the entire time as she was so kind and funny. She cut my hair exactly how I wanted but even better than I could've hoped for. She was super precise with the cut which is something I look for. I'm super picky about my front bangs and she did them exactly how I asked based on previous pictures. To Julie my daughters hair was damaged severely guess you should mind your own business because the reason I came inside the salon is because the horrible things the owner was saying to me outside I wanted to come inside so the whole salon could hear her mouth. Guess you didn't know ahn was in the back crying after day one asking everyone what she did wrong to my child's hair she knew she ruined it and had no clue how to fix it. And for the record Omar is amazing he belongs in a high end studio not this shit show of a business. Omar was the only person to actually handle the problem there "experienced" stylist ahn created. If you can't dye hair you shouldn't. She needs a new career. And Julie I didn't walk out I stayed and spoke with Omar and Omar took care of my daughter the way a stylist should. Hannah is awesome! I'm always nervous about having new people cut and color my hair but man did my hair need Hannah! Hannah listened to exactly what I asked for, she was fun and engaging the whole time! She was also very patient with my thick, long and hard to manage hair and her work is amazing! I highly recommend her! She has gained a new client with me. The salon itself is clean and up to date on the latest stuff. The front desk person quoted me $35 for a mani pedi (she went and asked with me on the phone) but the women in the nails salon refused to honor that rate after providing the scheduled service. Their rates are not posted. It ended up being $80 with the tip. The work they did was good, except I ended up waiting around because no one could accommodate a mani and a pedi, though I made the appointment several days ahead. I went in for a color/cut/style on a Saturday afternoon after calling just 2 hours prior to the appt. This wasn't the first place I called but they had an opening and I'm really glad it worked out that way. My hair person for the last 12 years retired so I was hoping to find someone equally as good and I sure did at First Impressions! Received a friendly greeting as soon as I walked in, the salon has a nice ambiance - the stations are set up at angles so while you're in the chair you see/hear maybe 1-2 other customers at most. It wasn't like a long hallways lined with chairs. I was soon greeted by my new stylist, Alisa. She really listened to my hair concerns, she did exactly what I wanted and even tried a style I hadn't thought about (I am always open to suggestions for style, but I was 100% on the black color). My hair was probably about 14 different shades of brown, blonde and gray and a mess. Alisa worked her magic! I didn't feel like I was there for hours on end and she's really nice and easy to chat with. It wasn't cheap, but neither was the quality of work - to me it was worth every penny! read more

However when my wife attempted to use it she was told the gift certificate was applicable to purchasing products. Wow!! Beautiful salon and I love love love love Hannah!! She is amazing, artistic mindful, patient, honest and punctual! She is the kind of hair stylist everyone needs in their life! I've been with her for years now, and I travel about 40 min to see her each time. She works me in at last minute many times as well and I can't say how much I appreciate that when I have something special come up that I need to look great for, she is always there for me! I went thru cancer, and she has taken me from Bald to a toe head pixie, to now a blond bob! She has been artistic and creative all along the way of this terrible cancer journey. I have curly hair and have a hard time finding hairdressers who know how to cut curly hair, so I looked specifically for a Diva stylist close to me and found Brian in First Impressions. I was in his chair for something close to two hours. For a haircut which I initially liked, but after a few days I began to notice hairs sticking out, different lengths on the sides, the back longer on one side, lopsided sides . . . so I called and made an appointment. I showed up today at 11:00 for our scheduled appointment (I made the appointment with him personally), and he came out to the waiting area and told me that he had a color client that he had forgotten about. So he can't call me (I guess not because he didn't even know my name)? He asked if I could come back. I could not. Then he told me to go sit somewhere and he'd see what he could do. This is my hair. It's Christmas time. I left. As far as I'm concerned, this was uncalled for and unprofessional. He didn't even apologize. I guess I have to go into Oakland or San Francisco for a decent haircut because I can't seem to find one in Benicia. Very disappointing. read more

I have several good things to say. 1) I called and left a message and they called back, not once but twice and were able to schedule an appointment. 2) I got a same day appointment (2 and a half hours after I called). 3) I was scheduled to see the owner 4) The owner is amazing. I felt comfortable with her and for the first time in a year of my short hair adventure, I felt like I found someone who knew what they were doing. 5) The salon is super nice. You can tell they really care about the place. 6) Pricing was surprisingly reasonable. Conclusion: I love this place. The owner Kathy finally gave me a call back not taking any responsibility for her salons stylists, receptionist, and horrible work. She wanted me to take my post down on Yelp and Facebook telling me I'm bashing her salon for writing ONE negative review on Yelp. She is more worried about her salons REPUTATION then taking responsibility for her salons actions. She said, " that every salon has ONE person that is NOT as TALENTED or well skilled at doing hair cuts." This is not an excuse!!!!! Why do you have them working for you? My 18 year old daughter and I have been getting our hair cut and colored here for 2 years and could not be happier. I was in the salon when Amy L. and her very blonde daughter came into the salon. Amy was screaming at the receptionist, and other stylists that her daughter's hair was green, and using foul language (F this F that). It was really stressful to see how angry she was. One of the stylists offered to redo the daughters hair and Amy left. It seemed the woman was angry and just wanted to make drama. I have been twice now and have been very happy both times. Hannah is my new stylist, sorry Hannah, I am loyal- good luck getting rid of me. I went in the first time with an open mind and she made suggestions without taking advantage. I loved the color, so we went for it again the second time along with a layered cut. She's confident in her work and it shows. She is also extremely accommodating. I needed to find a time that worked with coordinating childcare and that was no problem. I feel at ease when I am there and enjoy chatting and getting out of my head for a couple hours. Great experience from start to finish. Really nice salon too. read more
