The girl on the phone Ashley was prudent and said that she's never heard of my insurance and I let her know we would do the bloodwork without our insurance and she said that they're booked two weeks out. If you're booked two weeks out and I want to make an appointment that is 12 weeks out for my health, whose to deny me of that? I read once that as you get older, you need to find a doctor that's comfortable for you, relatively close to your age, a professional that knows your medical history and will continue to treat you as you get older. Dr. Pak Yoon Suk has been my physician for several years now and he's great. Being that he's not that much older than me and 1.5 generation Korean, he understands my needs and physical issues. No nonsense, direct, and to the point. He also has the same Korean name as me. Coincidence? I think not :) He has twin older brothers (both work in the same office) and one of them (Dr. Pak Jae Soo) treated my Father many years back and still treats my Mother to this day. We like to keep it all in the family, Gangnam Style. The 3 doctors pretty much own Cerritos and the neighboring area when it concerns healthcare for elderly Koreans. When I visit, I'm always the youngest one there. Whether it's my annual blood test and physical, an infection, acid reflux, colonoscopy, common flu, or if he needs to refer me to a specialist, I feel safe coming here. He gives me good advice to live healthy and safe. The front desk manager (Esther) is super efficient and gets me appointments relatively quick and sometimes even same day appointments, as long as I wait for a bit. The nurses in the back are really nice and accomodating. They get me samples when I need it and always treat me with respect. As we're young, we forget that we're not invincible and that the decisions we make now can have serious repercussions later in life. So these days, I try to think healthy and about preventive care, before something bad happens. read more

One morning I woke up and was hawking a loogie and blood came out. I had a sore throat all week and I was heavily congested. By seeing blood, I freaked out. I called my mom cause I was scared and she insisted on going to see a doctor. My aunt comes here so she made an appointment for me and luckily they were able to get me in on the same day! They were very nice and spoke fluent English! The office manager seems a little crazy cause she was spazzing out on her own cause she had so much stuff going on. Kind of unprofessional but hey, it's a korean place, what can you expect. The nurses were very helpful and sincere. It was $60 for my checkup which is pretty cheap. I've been to many doctors and I can say hands down First Medical Center is THE BEST!!! They have amazing staff and my doctor, Dr. Yoon Pak, is wonderful. He's the youngest out of the three (they are actually all brothers) and he is very comfortable to speak with. Another great thing is that it doesn't take weeks to get an appointment like other places...they can usually get you in the same day or at the latest the next day. When you have an emergency they'll usually see you right away. They do the basic check up, blood tests, and other tests (colonoscopy, pap smear, etc). Patients especially elderly who are over the age of 75 years old and primarily in good health, please be aware! My grandma went with Dr. Pak Jae Soo recommendations and underwent a colonoscopy even though she is 80 years old with no underlining health issues. What was to be a simple checkup ended up in a nightmare! The doctor punctured her intestines because he pumped in too much gas. She went into emergency surgery and now for the next 6 months she has to poop out of a bag and then she has to have another surgery to reconnect her intestines which requires another 6 month recovery period. Please be aware, and do not send your loved ones to this office, do your research and know your facts. My grandma was healthy and independent and now she is on bed rest. And the worst part is, Dr. Pak Jae Soo is not acknowledging his mistake and is avoiding my Grandma's surgeon to discuss the matter. Please share this with Korean community especially the elderly. No. Definitely no. My mom has been coming here for years to do regular body checks. Last time she came, she denied to do a colonoscopy. Six months later we receive a bill for $450. We call to ask what it's for, turns out it's because she denied the colonoscopy. We were told that they couldn't charge the insurance enough so they were charging us instead (insurance fraud???). So then she told us that if we came in for the colonoscopy that they would waive that payment. We make an appointment for 9am. We get here before 9am but we waited for almost 40 minutes. But I watch as people who came in after get called up. Then I notice a pattern. They were all Korean. We are not. I know Korean and listened to them all. I got tired of it and asked the receptionist why we have been waiting for so long and she doesn't even answer us and goes to check. Like. What? She finally goes in and my mom is seen. But now I'm wondering what does she even need a colonoscopy for??? She is totally healthy and has never had any problems with her colon. I really don't like this place. Suspicious as hell. read more

My appointment was for 3:30 pm. I got there at 3:15 pm. I didn't see the doctor until 4:15 pm. He was with me for less than 10 mins. I already knew what I need antibiotics. Which is what he knew in less than two mins with me. He wrote me a prescription. ALL this cost me $170. They are a RIP OFF. They charged my insurance company $170 dollars. They collected from my insurance company $90 which is more than enough for the services they provided but they are greedy and charged me for another $80. DO NOT GO HERE. I called ahead to make an appointment and was told over the phone doctors visit is $50. Scheduled an appointment at 11:30, went in at 11:15. I waited about 30-45 minutes until the doctor finally showed up to the room. He took a quick look at my swollen bug bite and told me it was infected and that I should take antibiotics. Then he said if that don't work I should come back to drain it. This process took about 5 maybe 10 minutes. He didn't bother asking me when it happened or if it was causing any pain ( which I was). He wrote a prescription and left. Then the nurse came and took me to get a shot of antibiotics. i then went to pay for the visit. $50 for the shot and $60 for the visit. But I was told the visit is $50 over the phone earlier on. I didn't bother to complain because it's only 10 bucks but I didn't like how they scammed me of $10. The office was clearly overbooked and the doctors seemed like they were in a rush to jump to the next patient. I would expect a doctor to at least spend more than just 10 minutes to talk about the issue. It just seemed like all they want to do is make money as quickly as possible and not care much about the patient. Also the billing lady wasn't very hospitable person and she looked irritated. If you are looking for a doctors office with a doctor that is willing to sit down with you and discuss the issue in detail, go somewhere else. The patients here were mostly elderly Korean people. Busy on the weekdays, my wife and I were referred to this establishment since they are open on the weekends. She had an appointment at a prescribed time but had to wait almost an hour. While that was not a problem, the billing was. First, they were going to give her an X-Ray but the machine was broken. They told her that they would do the X-Ray on the next appointment. However, when I got my statement, they charged for 3 X-Rays and other services that were never rendered. Furthermore, she only visited them once during the billing statement cycle yet they charged her for 2 medical visits and listed three different dates of services that they did for her. Is this how they treat their patients? Do they think that because their patients are usually elderly and Koreans that they can rip them off like this because they never check their billing statements? My wife called them and they tried to make different excuses. My insurance fit the entire bill but that does not justify what was done. I want to have the piece of mind that the doctors are actually thinking about my wife's well-being and not another cash cow. They prescribed several things for her and now I am wondering whether it was legit or not. My wife went a total of 2 times (have yet to receive the next statement). We'll see what other fraudulent charges they make. I am going to report this to the BBB. I want to warn other people that are planning to go here. I was a walk-in patient that didn't need to see a doctor, I just needed some blood and urine tests. They said that was fine and didn't charge me for an office visit. I waited only 5 or 10 minutes before my name was called. Everyone was nice and cordial, and there was a lot of tut-tutting when I told them why I needed these tests done (I was having surgery the next morning), which was touching. I needed these results to get to the lab STAT, and they were very accommodating. They sent the results to my surgery center first thing in the morning when they reopened. Everything came out to be $100 flat, but as I had no idea they were CASH AND CHECK ONLY, I counted up all the bills in my wallet and came up with $95. They said it was fine. I definitely recommend this place. Super fast and efficient. Just a note: 99.9% of the staff and patients are Korean, but they speak English as well. read more
