Having been to other physical therapists over the years for various reasons and in different countries I had expectations that were no where even close to being met. His demeanor is friendly and very easy going, but horribly unprofessional. On my second or third visit, he must have felt comfortable enough with me as to curse in casual conversation, but I did not find it appropriate. I am a patient, not his friend. There is no point on showing up on time to your PT appointment as he is never on time. He usually is 10-15 minutes behind the scheduled appointment, and never apologizes for it. The receptionist is just as unprofessional. She is too lazy to get up from her chair to let him know the patient has arrived for the appointment. She simply yells for him; ie. "Dean! So and so is here!". He does not have an assistant so when he has multiple patients at the same time he jumps back and forth between patients; often without even excusing himself. I frequently found myself waiting for him after finishing a set of exercises while he would run off to work with another patient. Very rude. Very unprofessional. If he is being paid for an hour of physical therapy he should provide an hour of physical therapy, not half an hour of physical therapy and half an hour of waiting while he works with someone else. As for the clinic itself, it is very lacking in equipment and it looks like he might live there as a corner in the clinic is cluttered with his personal belongings. I would say he has about half a dozen machines, which is by far the least number of PT equipment I have seen in a PT clinic. The massage tables he has is tattered and disgusting. After my first visit, I wanted to ask my physician for a referral to another physical therapist, but gave Dean the benefit of the doubt and stuck with him for several weeks before declining further treatment. I had no benefit and found no relief from pain from the sessions with him. I found myself annoyed with his unprofessionalism and felt that the sessions with him were a complete waste of time. Please save yourself some trouble, time and stress, and avoid Dean Kashiwabara for any physical therapy.

I have had to use them a few times over the years ( getting old sucks) but they are always on top of their game with better ways to recover and strengthen the area that is not working properly on your body. After consenting to having a total knee replacement performed by Dr. Jay Marumoto of Queen's…read moreOrthopedic Associates at the Minimally Invasive Surgical Center, the nursing staff provided me with checklists of pre- and post-operation patient care instructions. Also, I was impressed with the detailed daily and hourly medication and exercise schedule, and noted Dr. Marumoto's staff coordination for an at-home physical therapy session 2 days after surgery. Wow! I didn't expect to have an at-home visit. Still, I understood the importance of starting rehabilitation exercises as soon as possible after surgery to promote mobility and prevent scar tissue growth. Four days before my Friday surgery day, I received a phone message from physical therapist Michael Maresca, owner of Maresca Physical Therapy. I scheduled him to teach me mobility (knee bending and straightening) and strengthening home exercises, assess our living space, and fit the height of walking assistance equipment (a walker and a cane I borrowed from my eldest sister, who underwent foot surgery last year). I was astonished that Michael put me on his schedule on Sunday morning, as I thought physician or specialist house calls were a thing of the past. Because I hadn't explained our condominium's exact location and parking garage procedures, Michael and I exchanged phone messages on Sunday, which delayed his arrival. However, once he met with my husband in the lobby of our building and entered our unit, I found Michael to be professional, well-mannered, and friendly. He was easy to talk to and seemed surprised that I was in good spirits and could stand, walk, and sit comfortably even after being "fresh out of surgery." I told him that I was concerned about not developing scar tissue because I wouldn't want to have to redo this surgery and wanted to return to regular daily exercises and functioning as soon as possible. Besides, according to Dr. Marumoto's office's medication and exercise schedule, I'd diligently exercise every 2 hours indoors, and I don't want to become a vampire afraid of the sunlight. Before Michael left, he reviewed the seven exercises he had taught me and provided a pictorial chart with instructions. He was also encouraging and fostered a positive and healing attitude. I made sure to perform the exercises to prepare for and incorporate them with my upcoming physical appointments at JACO Rehab Center, which followed this house call three days later.
