I tried a lot of things myself as I'm pretty knowledgeable in this area. I called Kerry, the PC Mechanic, and arranged to drop off the PC the same morning. He fixed enough to get it do boot off a CD, backed up all the files to an external USB drive, completely installed and configured WIndows 10, added all the updates, and setup the computer with an automated backup system.
