I'm a mechanic by trade, I know my car pretty well. I went to another smog place before this one because i was told the were going to be able to see find the the numbers on the CAT. Keep in mind all the visual in the engine was already done by another smog shop. And theybpassed it. Now they checke it out and they said the found a vacuum hose that goes yonthe brake booster damaged. I would think ther smog place would have told me about it. Specially since it was just hanging there. I look under the hood and the hose was not even on. Not only that but I ssee that the damage was done but a knife or a sharp object. Worst place to go. Also since I know it my cat was good my brakes felt off, and my car, when in idle, reved up to 2k then back down. It didnt do that when I brought it in. read more

I would never come here again as is was a waste of time. I brought a car in, asked if it was doable and they said they would give it a look over free of charge but ended up charging me anyways for some wasted time. Their prices aren't competitive and there are tons of other places with better deals. I would only come here if you want your money taken and nothing gets done. Avoid at all cost. read more

Just had my truck smogged here, making a total of a dozen or so times I've taken our family's 3 vehicles to First Street Smog. Today I dealt with Raj, owner for the last 4 years, and he was extremely friendly and professional. There were two vehicles ahead of me when I called, so he fine-tuned exactly when I should come in, so that when I drove up and walked into his office, my truck was seen within a minute or so. When it was all done, he also gave me advice on how to renew my DMV registration online on a Good Friday (after I had waited until the Friday before the due date on the coming Monday). I've never had any problems with this establishment. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone, or to bring my next vehicle there when its smog-test time comes. read more

UGHHHH need my smog check AGAIN, was how I was feeling about seeing that on my DMV renewal. Nothing to ever look forward and I've never had or found anywhere that offered a pleasant experience. Until today, Called at 9:05 for an appointment, set up for 10:30, got there 2 minutes late and I was then passed and home by 11! So happy I found this place here in town. They are so straightforward, explain things, recommend things, are honest and do their best to accommodate your needs as quickly as possible. Power window broke a month ago - they explained all, fixed it and had the car back promptly. Yesterday car not turning over - trouble starting. My Hum detected a sensor problem. I called this shop, they immediately had an answer, gave me a quote - done. I had an appointment for next Monday but today I was out at a store and it wouldn't start. When I finally got it to turn over, I drove straight to the shop, they greeted me by name, said they'd get the part and get it done today. Cannot thank this family owned business enough. Got my 4-runner smog tested today. The service was extremely fast even with a few people in front of me, I was in and out in 30 minutes. They charged a flat 40 for the inspection and certificate on my 4-Runner (most places like to charge extra when your vehicle is bigger.) It was fast, efficient and the staff was nice. Really everything you could ask for. The hardest part for me was finding the place (they are in the same plaza as the Big-O tires) I'll be bringing my other cars to them as they come due for a smog test. read more

If using a Garmin GPS to locate this business, type in 4001 1st street- not "first street". It will save you a lot of extra driving. I used to love this place. Now, it's unfortunately, just average. The story is that a guy came over and bought out the old owner. I was alright with that. The tech that I used was still the same guy, and I got along with him well. He was professional yet cordial. So I kept coming back. The new owner seemed like a cool guy too, and I'd see him around town from time to time. Then, the new owner fired everyone. Everyone. New staff, new business practices. In short, the entire shop changed. The new tech that I last dealt with was a younger kid with a stick up his ass and a bit of an attitude towards customers. I've brought six of my cars here as a repeat/regular customer over the years, but now, I'll be in search of another smog shop to consider as my regular place. It's just too bad... :( read more

I am not sure exactly 'how' Raj knows that I happened to have gone to another smog check facility to have my car smogged - Sounds like an invasion of my privacy to me! It also may imply that Raj owns ALL of the smog check facilities in Livermore, in which case that sounds like an unfair monopoly to have. Just for the record, though, my car PASSED the smog check perfectly at the other shop where it was actually allowed to be tested, and the only problem experienced was that they needed to have the formal barcode information from the parts manufacturer in order to fully pass the state requirements. This information is being sent to me and once it arrives, I will take my vehicle back to the other shop and it will have fully passed the smog check. The fact that First Street Smog blatantly refused to even test my vehicle once they saw that it was modified (for only an airbox / air filter modification, of all ridiculous things!) is the main reason for the negative review here. For anyone that has ANY type of modifications, AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COSTS! They are NOT customer friendly and are not willing to work with you at all!! read more

My car is 5 years old and the DMV needed me to smog check my car. My husband had dealt with this company some time before, and remembered a good experience. He called and I was able to get in this morning! I arrive to the business, walked through the door and the gentleman at the counter, Raj, already knew WHO I was and greeted me politely! my fisrt experiance here was desent and i would have rated it a 3-4 if that was my last visit there.the second time i went there to get my vehicle smoged there the experiance sucked the guy who did the smog test from the paperwork to the EVAP test was a jerk (there is a pic of him hes standing on the right) . right from from th get go the guy was rude,conceded and later on realized he was DISHONEST!, i have a fake duel exhaust on my truck, (92' chevy with a california customs package on it it). was real up entill california started testing for NOS gasses. i had to plug up one of my two exhaust tips in order for my exhast system to create enough back presure to activate my E.G.R. valve i asked him if to do a 100% legle simple task in by puting the smog testing stick into my exhast pipe and not into the dummy pipe. He agreed. i stayed in the wating room untill i herd my truck getting tested in the shop. when i herd it getting tested i went out side to watch my truck getting smoged and WHAT DO YA KNOW the guy had the smog tester in the wrong pipe!, the fake pipe! and he knew it was in the dummy pipe cuz i called him out on it. his rude attitude changed real fast along with a bunch of his conceded mechanical talk whitch did not make any sence. then he asked me, HOW DO YOU KNOW THE PIPE IS A DUMMY PIPE? natually i was pissed becuse i had a professional exhast shop (30 min. muffeler) plug off the one of the exhaust tips makeing it a DUMMY exhaust pipe. so of corse my truck did not pass i had to pay about 70$ and then he says bring it back when you fix it and ill charge you half price....... A day later i had the truck smoged at a diffrent place and sure enough IT PASSED read more

I have been bringing all my vehicles here for years, that would be most of my fleet in the past decade, and as my newer vehicles need their first smog test, I don't think twice where to go. I've been dealing with auto-services companies for over 30 years and can count on one hand(2) places that I trust and recommend to others. This is one of them! Not only fast, and efficient, but truly great customer service with honesty and integrity. More concerned about doing the right thing and helping the customer as opposed to seeing what they can profit from in the short term. Raj and Steve, are great, I take all my vehicles here, even when I had one I was a bit concerned with. They could have easily let me come in and fail, charge me, then charge me for a re-test. I brought my older Honda here to be smogged for the DMV. Great customer service and I was able to get an appointment the same day. The numbers were barely passing due to a mis-adjusted distributor cap. They went in and adjusted the cap for free. I was so impressed and will take my business here going forward! read more

Needed a hose replaced in order to pass the smog test. I asked for an estimate and was told the part would be $47 and it would be $67 to install. Since it was sitting right on top of the engine and only needed two clamps unscrewed to replace it I made the mistake of assuming they meant it was $67 total. Wrong. I was charged $67 in labor for a job that could not have taken more than 5 minutes. The service was fast and efficient and the people I dealt with were very nice and professional. After dealing with Speedy Oil Change, and a couple other places, I was looking for a new smog place. I read Yelp reviews and chose this one. It's around the corner from my house so it was very convenient as well. I called to make an appointment and I spoke to Raj the owner. He couldn't have been friendlier and I explained I was going to send my niece in with my car to actually do the smog. He asked for her name and she told me upon arrival she was greeted by name and was taken right away. She was gone maybe 25-30 minutes total, and it was only $40!!
