    Strawberry Tres Leches French Toast

This restaurant was a nice way to start our day. There wasn't a long wait so we could be seated quickly. Our waitress was kind, patient, and organized in receiving our orders. We had a large group and she was able to manage our group well. The environment was clean, but next time, I would ask for hot water to pre-dip the utensils in to get some of the dishwasher stains off, but nothing a quick wipe couldn't fix. As for the food, we ordered some options off of their summer menu. I especially liked the Strawberry Tres Leche French Toast, Blueberry Lemon Cornbread, and the Million Dollar Bacon. These were the stars of the show! The overall taste of each of these items was great, not too sweet, or moist, I wouldn't change anything about them. Kinda wishing I ordered an additional cornbread to go- I might regret that later... The Bacado was good but I do think the bacon inside was overcooked. I would order the Morning Meditation again. It's a great drink option I would recommend trying, you could taste the beets and turmeric, which was satisfying. A nice spot to bring your family to that has plenty of food options that can be indulgent or healthy if desired.

Very nicely decorated and great atmosphere. It reminded me of farmhouse chic. Service was wonderful everyone we met was so nice. I loved that they had gluten free options that I didn't have to pay extra for. My husband loved his breakfast tacos. We would go back if we go up to Melbourne on the weekends in the morning. I enjoyed the fact that they also leave you a carafe of coffee so you can just refill as you need.

I had the Shishito Brisket Hash and the Blueberry Lemon Cornbread. The cornbread enough is worth stopping in. It was delicious. My Shishito Hash, however, was out of this world. Kudos to whoever wrote the description because I was sold as soon as I read it. I cannot begin to describe all the flavors. It was absolutely amazing. A lot of ingredients and you can taste every one. Our server was attentive and enjoyable. We don't get there often so I had questions. The place is nice and clean and bright with all the windows. We will go back!

This is the "extra avocado" I got

First time here. Busy place, I will come back. Just disappointed in the dry turkey sausage and the fact that I asked for avocado on top of my omelette and you'll see I only got 2 tiny slices. When I asked for more avocado I only got 2 more little slices! I forgot to check the bill to see what I was charged for the "extra" avocado. But it would probably have made me mad anyway.

The place was packed with people, but that's a sunday at 10am for you. Despite this ai felt well tended to, our server was sweet and prompt and our food came out probably within 10 minutes. The food was delicious and the manager seemed very involved with not only the staff but the customers as well which is always nice to see.

For any of my loyal friends who've followed by reviews back when I was far more active, you all know that I love breakfast and brunch restaurants. Simply check out my reviews for Kiki's, Oh Biscuit, Egg & I (now closed), IHOP, and Sunshine Cafe to see just how much I LOVE breakfast and brunch. So when I heard First Watch was opening in Melbourne in the old building that used to be Red Robin, I knew I just had to eat there. Today, I get the chance to do so with my family and I have to say, I am more than satisfied, I am extremely happy! Upon arriving at First Watch located in "front" (south) of Melbourne Square Mall, you'd notice they went a more minimalist approach with their look. A lot of simplistic planes and angles used for decor and furniture that looks like they came from either Ikea or Bed, Bath & Beyond. A lot of warm monochrome shades used with wood highlights too. In short, it was simple, but it gives off an ambiance of casual sophistication and cleanliness. We had to wait for our table about 15 to 20 minutes, but it didn't take too long. Found out you can go online and reserve a time so your wait won't have to be too long. I will give kudos on whatever they did with the chairs and floors. Usually, whenever you drag chairs on the floor, it "catches." However, the chairs would literally "glide" so it was easy to move. I assume they used either sliding pads on the bottom of the chair legs or there are soft ball bearings that lock when weight pushes down on them. I don't know but I wasn't going to turn a chair upside-down to find out. Food. Well. It was superb for breakfast and brunch. Please check the pictures to see what we ordered. I will simply say it was prepped well, spiced and flavored adequately, and visually appealing: A "trifecta" of deliciousness per se. I personally want to try the protein bowls and their take on traditional breakfast/brunch food, but right now, I (and maybe you should too until you cover it all if you can) will work the Spring Menu since it is there for a limited amount of time. On a sidenote: the restrooms were clean but seem to be lacking in stalls, well for the men's restroom. One urinal and one toilet seems to be short in number for a busy restaurant such as this. As for price, it is "TWO Dollar Signs" meaning most of the food will average between $10 and $20. Definitely will be back to try more of their food. Though a franchise with many restaurants and 40 years of history, I am giving them a "PERFECT" because it was everything I expected and more.

Then after having many other burgers/sandwiches on our trip I opted for the chickpea pasta with veggies and leaving off the parm to make it vegan. I appreciate the volume of veggies in the dish, though the sauce was a touch too oily. The main issue was the cooks WAY over cooked the chickpea pasta so when they tossed it with the sauce and veggies 2/3 of the pasta had broken apart...

They have the hot griddles built into the tables so that you can make your own pancakes which is what they're known for. We didn't have to wait for a table and the service was pretty quick. My wife had the pulled pork Bennie. I am not a fan of pulled pork, but I must admit my fork wandered over to the plate a few times. She loved the dish as well. It was so big, we took half home. And there is where I may have finished it without permission. LOL. I really wish Yelp had the half star option. 4 1/2 is more appropriate. Go here. You won't be disappointed.

**INITIAL REVIEW**…read more Most of my fellow Yelpers know if food were categorized by a genre, breakfast and brunch has a special place in my heart. Ergo, I am on the constant search for more breakfast and brunch places to add to my repertoire. With that in mind, I must stress that Historic Downtown Melbourne a.k.a. Melbourne Main Street has an amazing number of breakfast and brunch places. But the one I admire the most is The Roots Restaurant Tavern, which I will shorthand simply to The Roots for the remainder of this review. Though an address is provided, it must be stressed The Roots is a little "off the mainstreet" of Melbourne Main Street. Just west of the train tracks, the road splits in which the northernly direction is the continuation of New Haven Ave. or the actual Melbourne Main Street. The Roots is on the southern road, right next to The Iron Oak. Take note that The Roots is quite a cozy location. On the outside, The Roots has this look of an old saloon out in the wild west. There are a few tables and chairs for outdoor seating, excellent for people-viewing while eating your meal. Inside, The Roots looks delightfully tacky with all the knick-knacks hanging around and about on the walls. Imagine how Cracker Barrel used to look before the new CEO decided the decor should be more minimalist. But my statement on how The Roots looks small from the outside definitely shows when you are inside, too. The place is small. They definitely utilize the space as best they could, with large party seating being in the back for only one party. Still, take note of this limitation. My waitresses were very kind and attentive when serving me. But I am sure you all want to know about the food. The times I have eaten here, I have had three meals: The Eggs Benny Flight, and Pancake Flight, and Shrimp n' Grits. I will detail each in the pictures of food (if I have them), but I will say that everything here was delicious. My one lone criticism is that some of these flights are best enjoyed with another, not by yourself. On a sidenote, the restroom is clean and stocked, but there is only one and it is unisex. As I said earlier, The Roots is the best breakfast and brunch restaurant, well for me, in Historic Downtown Melbourne. So it is understandable why I am giving them a five-out-of-five stars for their review. Food, service, and ambiance are all excellent and the issues are way too minimal for me to consider them having any major affect. If you are ever going to eat at The Roots only once. My suggestion are the flights. Either eggs bennies, pancakes, or mimosas, you can't go wrong with any of them.
