We tried Shep's Diner on Aurora Road this morning for the first time. This place reminds us of an old style family restaurant from times past. It is clean and well maintained. We were welcomed as soon as we came through the door. Wait staff was very friendly and polite. Our order came out quickly and was delicious. It was great to have actual crispy shredded hash browns that we love and other breakfast items that were cooked perfectly. Prices are very reasonable. We will definitely return. Service is great. Diner is overdue for a make-over. Food is mixed. Their burgers, pancakes, eggs, grits and home fries are decent . Heard the owner retired and new owner will be changing up the menu. Hope if they carry buttermilk biscuits, fries and onions rings they are homemade. Would rather have a smaller menu with homemade items than anything frozen or canned. Great breakfast specials for $ 6.49 including coffee / drink!! Fast friendly service providing meals quickly at a ludicrously Great price. Waffle, eggs, biscuit, ham, coffee, hash browns all straightforward breakfast items. Server gladly accommodated request for extra crispy hash browns. Grits needed a little salt, but understandable as some like sugar vs salt. Interested in coming back for their $7.99 weekday lunch specials and Friday fish fry (they serve swai) Ambiance is those 1950s retro style ads and pictures. As one can guess for the price lots of retired folks coming in for weekday specials. That said we were seated and served immediately. Definitely give it a try!! read more

It took forever to get our order and when we finally did, it was freezing cold. They took both of our orders and put it in the microwave and my over medium egg became a hard boiled fried egg. I asked for onions in my hash browns, they never appeared. It took about 15 minutes for someone to take our order. When she realized it, she was such a doll. The service is amazing. The sausage gravy is really lacking sausage. I might try it again for lunch. Again, the service is very good. read more

Food was delicious and service was quick. It was around 12:45pm on a Tuesday and I was able to seat myself and waitress was very friendly. If dining solo, they also have counter service if you prefer that to a table. Nice clean atmosphere. read more

Stopped by this diner for lunch. The staff here is very friendly and our server took our drink order and delivered it right away. She was awesome and very attentive. We ordered the taco salad and a tuna salad sandwich. Our meals came in a reasonable amount of time. The tuna sandwich oddly lacked any mayonnaise and just tasted off. The sweet potato chips were limp and lifeless. The horseradish sauce that came with it was good but didn't help much. The taco salad shell was crisp around the edge but soggy on the bottom. It was filled with lettuce, meat, tomatoes, cheese, salsa, and sour cream. Honestly the taco salad at taco bell is better and cheaper. A real disappointment here. I ate because I was hungry. Maybe breakfast is better but probably will not return any time soon. 1 star for friendly staff and server. About it. read more

I ordered the three egg omelette with mushrooms and onions. Honestly, the eggs did not have salt at all and the food was swimming in grease. The home fries I ordered were okhay. I asked for peppers and onions with it and they weren't very well mixed in. Like the omelette, the hash too was swimming in oil. The biscuit that came with it was nice, but a neighboring restaurant serves the same kind of breakfast WITH a biscuit that is much better and fresher. This is a little mom and pop diner however, the lunch that I had was absolutely delicious. I had a sloppy Joe sandwich with fries ( these are the best fries, hands down!!) it also came with coleslaw and a pickle. The wait staff was very friendly. We tried Shep's for the first time on a Saturday morning before heading home after visiting our son, a student at Florida Tech. This is by far the best breakfast you can get in Melbourne! The pancakes, grilled homemade biscuits & fresh eggs are delicious and the portions are enormous! Shep's is a no pretense, comfort-food Diner. They keep it simple, with well prepared selections, friendly service and reasonable pricing. Breakfast is our favorite there. Shorty's Country Fried Steak Omelet is my favorite! Fluffy and perfect. Choose hash brown's & grilled biscuit, and you have sure winner! The Breakfast Burrito Bowl is well balanced and delicious. We've also enjoyed their pancakes, large, tender and very enjoyable. We've been back many times, and will continue to do so. Awesome place for home cooked breakfast! I had a mushroom and cheese omelet with hash browns and a grilled biscuit. It was extremely fillings and very good. My friend had the He Man breakfast. Shep's food is definitely home cooking but the place needs to get redone. The servers are very attentive and definitely work hard. There's lot of good things on the menu, including the free mimosas on the weekend. They're small but hey, they're free! Don't expect huge plates and loads of food, but what you get, will be great! read more

Saturday morning breakfast for two. Greeted and seated quickly. A nice surprise was the offer of a complimentary Mimosa or Bloody Mary. We had a chance to try both (and the coffee) before our meal arrived in a reasonable amount of time (for a full, busy diner). I love a place where someone on the staff (maybe not your server) comes around with fresh coffee (though it is "diner coffee")! People complain of smaller portion sizes but it happens everywhere (check the size of your bag of chips; the amount of ketchup you're buying; the amount of laundry detergent in that container). A small reduction in size helps reign in costs and prevents a price increase. The portions are probably appropriate and a healthy size but as Americans we've come to expect overflowing plates. There are places that offer larger portions but those portions come at a higher cost. If you're surprised by the cost when paying cash why not ask the server or cashier or owner at the point of sale. Dinging someplace in a review is too late. Just a thought. The food was tasty and hot and the service was fast and friendly and it's not a chain with chain store pricing. We're fortunate to be able to try different places with regularity. To some places we will never return due to service, cleanliness, or food prep. Shep's is a place to which we will happily return. We usually have breakfast here. Wanted home cooking and no fanfare. We got just that. Friday evening fish fry could not be better with a side salad and black eyed peas.
