We decided to check out Fish Creel in Anderson, AL. It was a scenic drive thru Limestone County into Lauderdale County. There was little traffic just before lunchtime which afforded us an opportunity to look at the scenery. Fish Creel is located just inside Lauderdale County out in the middle of nowhere. There is an ATM by the entrance as the restaurant only takes cash or check. We walked in and were greeted by a few ladies at the front counter. There is a sign to take a seat and if the party is larger than 6, please wait for assistance. As soon as we sat down, our waitress came by to give us menus, flatware and to take our drink orders. Hubs ordered the large catfish filet platter, baked potato, and slaw. I opted for the Friday lunch special chicken and dumplings with green beans, macaroni and cheese and tomatoes, cucumbers and onions in dressing. The lunch special is 1 meat, 2 sides, a drink, and dessert for $9. I was given the option of swapping cake for a side so I took it. Hubs catfish was phenomenal. The best catfish ever!!! My chicken and dressing was ok. I am not a catfish eater and that's why I ordered the lunch special. There were about 14 others out of 20 that ordered the chicken and dressing. My taster might be off. All in all it was good food and we will be back. If you enjoy countryside scenery and awesome catfish, get in the car and drive to Anderson to try out Fish Creel. It's worth the drive for the catfish.

From where we were at the Tennessee state line, it was about a 50 minute ride on small country roads. We arrived at Mike's Cafe after most of the lunch crowd was gone. We ordered the smoked chicken with fried potatoes, pinto beans and okra, a double cheeseburger deconstructed, small onion rings and a BLT to go. They didn't have turnip greens or collards so I ended up with fried potatoes. Fried cornbread was included. Inside the restaurant the ceiling in the small dining area was similar to galvanized siding. It was shiny new. I didn't ask if the dining area was a new addition. The shiny caught my attention. I believe there were 12 booths for seating. We were the only customers inside sitting while Mike, the owner, was back in the kitchen preparing our foods. We introduced ourselves and told Mike we drove over there because we heard so many great things about his food and that his restaurant was clean. It was clean too! Mike brought our foods out and we headed to the car. As we were about to leave, Mike came out with a sample of his hamburger soup on the house. What a lovely gesture. We thanked him and his wife and headed home to devour our haul. The smoked chicken was delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed the fried okra, pintos and fried potatoes. The BLT was made with a lot of thick cut bacon. Yummy! The double cheeseburger we shared later was delicious and cooked perfectly. If you like old style good home cooking, please stop by Mike's Cafe. His food is fire!

However when I don't get half of what I ordered and I get told to just come back and I can get the rest of it and if not I have to go thru door dash to get a refund ( fyi it takes 5-10 days for them to process it) but they take it immediately. I don't live in that direction so completely out of the way to do so but my daughter wanted crispitos so that's what I ordered. Would not recommend and won't go there again. Also I ordered a blt and I guess I didn't read the description but I didn't think I would have to it's pretty simple but they add onions to it so they need to advertise as a blto so that you don't order something you are not expecting. I like to do local but get it right I was told that's how they make it but there menu clearly states bacon lettuce and tomato no onion what so ever was mentioned so I was lied to and I can't respect that in a business

Hubs ordered the Goodfella Pizza, with a couple of deletions, and loved it. I chose the Elana Ruz sandwich and it was glorious! Not exaggerating, that sandwich was such a delicious combination of flavors. We were able to find seats inside while we waited, and then hubs found a table outside right before our food was ready. The weather was delightful so we enjoyed sitting outside. We loved the overall vibe, although inside was a little loud. Their decor everywhere was so much fun! We also appreciated the drink refills as we headed out. As we left, we saw tons of parking in an adjacent lot, which I've noted for future visits. Mountain Goat Market is now definitely a must-do on our next trip to The Caverns.

In a very large open room, I was reminded of a high school cafeteria. We were able to get a table right away. Order at the counter and seat yourself. We took turns ordering because our table was the last one and we didn't want to lose it. The meal took only a few minutes to prepare and we were eating by 12:55 The Reuben looked amazing as did the pizza. I was a little jealous. Especially since I ordered the fiesta burrito and found it to be mostly ... just.... okay. I was disappointed that the gift / souvenir shop was closed.

Everybody I know loves their Granny's collards best, but I swear that these are truly outstanding. The werewolf was great, I really liked the slaw/collard/mayo synergy, with a generous amount of roast beef. Service was great today, so I am assuming my previous visit was the exception. I have been recommended this place by multiple people throughout the years and finally got a chance to give it a try. (Well, I say that but mainly because I go to Gold's Deli everytime I'm in Columbia. So it was time to share the love) They have a pretty large menu of various sandwiches, I wish I had grabbed a picture of them. I asked the cashier if she had to pick one sandwich which one would it be, she gave me a list of about 3 that all sounded amazing. The fourth she suggested was if you're overwhelmed or unsure just get the Italian. I LOVE Italian sandwiches so that is what I ended up with. Everything here is fresh so I waited about 5-10 minutes for my sandwich to get made. I will definitely be trying out some of the more adventurous creations next time but this was so good. This Italian has a freshness to it that I have a hard time describing but their olive oil blend is lovely, the olives, banana peppers and lettuce helped with that fresh taste as well I'm sure. The bread is incredible! It taste house baked, crisp outer crust with a pillowy interior. The house chips were also really good and salted perfectly. The inside is cool, it's a microbrewery and there's subtle like alien themes throughout? Overall can't wait to try it out again, stop by if you're ever down in Columbia!
