Had a fun time in Deep Cove. Due to high tourist season, it is best to go online to register and…read morereserve your kayaks. It will save you a lot of time when you pick up your kayak. Prices are pretty reasonable and we chose the two hour option due to our limited time during the sunset period. The staff were busy but friendly and assisted us with our kayaks. They will brief you about the kayaks, safety and where to go. Now, I would select a longer time to truly appreciate Deep Cove's natural beauty when you aren't dodging other kayaks or boats. The traffic can be somewhat chaotic in the summer time and it is main area for a lot of boaters heading out of the cove. We kayak around three islands within our two hour option, but didn't relax as much as we want. Again, the salt water, slight wind, and being in the 80's made it a wonderful but brief time.

Great place to kayak, incredible views, definitely worth a visit…read more Equipment and gear were great and in great shape. Our guides were knowledgeable and got us in and out of our kayak without us getting our feet wet. I didn't give five stars for two reasons. First, the two guides seemed a bit lax, they mostly paddled with us instead of taking lead and sweep positions, despite the fact that two out of the six of us had never kayaked before. They did look back periodically to check on everyone, but it was still strange compared to other kayak tours I've been on. Second, they didn't take pictures of us, other tours I've been on do it as a matter of course and email or post pictures to everyone. Still, this was a very worthwhile experience, and everyone enjoyed the views, the seals we saw in the water, etc., and no one had trouble keeping up despite the wind and the range of both ages and kayaking experience.

We paddled for 6 days and camped for 5 nights. The scenery and whale watching aspects of the trip were excellent. The camps were comfortable and well supported by occasional re-supply from the base back in Port NcNiell. The camp on Sophia Island was particularly well appointed with already set tents, cots and a nice kitchen and sitting area. The food prepared by our guide was excellent and hearty. I would certainly recommend this group for paddlers of all levels of experience.

We learned a lot from him and enjoyed spending some time getting to know him. Our guide, Korry, was also excellent. He was also friendly and welcoming and made sure we were well fed and had a good time. There is never a guarantee of finding specific wildlife when you are out in the wild, but Larry and Korry knew the animals behaviors and made sure to stay up to date on recent patterns and updates from all the other local teams in order to give us the best chance to see orcas, humpbacks, eagles, seals, and lots of other wildlife while out kayaking. Even if we didn't see any whales the entire time, it still would have been a great trip. However, we did see lots of orca and humpbacks during our time. They even came right by our island one evening, where we could see them from our dinner table and hear them while sleeping in our tents. I highly recommend going with Larry and Discovery Expeditions. We hope to make another trip in the future.

We made reservations for 11:00 am for…read morea group of 4 (2 couples) but we had to reschedule a couple of times because of a family emergency and we finally went and did the kayaking last weekend and it was such a disaster. First, when we got there we realized the business is actually a tiny shed - they don't even hang up the life jackets they just throw them on the ground beside the bench outside. They seemed to be pretty busy and there were tons of random customers who didn't make reservations that came to inquire about renting and they were so disorganized about what times certain kayaks were coming back and leaving. Some of their kayaks were up on the grassy hill by the shed and some were on the beach. One of the employees was trying to leave for the day because he had a birthday party to go to - and another younger blonde employee asked him to take a paddleboard instead of a kayak because they didn't have enough to rent out lol. If they have a book for reservations I don't understand why it's so difficult to plan out resources properly. So for some reason our reservation was written down as 11:30 but we still arrived at 10:45 am to sign the waiver and pay the taxes and I was told over the phone to arrive early for the "briefing" before we go out on the water. We sat around and waited until 11:55 am before there were two double kayaks ready for our group. That already annoyed us. Then there were a few extremely dirty PFDs (life jackets) left on the ground so I asked for a smaller size (I'm 107 lbs and 5'5") and was told that they were all the same size and we should just tug on the straps to tighten. It was the same younger male employee that told me to tug on the straps. I pulled the life jacket up to see if it would go past my shoulders after I tightened and explained to him that if a life jacket goes up that high it wouldn't save anyone's life if they fell in the water. Mind you I can swim quite well and I'm not afraid of drowning but with all the recent drownings and boating accidents in the news this summer in BC I just wanted to be cautious. I made a joke to the kid about suing him if we drowned and he responded with "did you sign the waiver? ha if you did then you can't do anything about it" REALLY? that's how you reassure your clients? TOP NOTCH service and attitude there. Honestly even if there was another groupon/social shopper deal I still wouldn't patronize this business they obviously offer no customer service training to their employees and place little value on the safety of their customers.

We arrived eight minutes before our reservation. The staff (two employees) were busy setting up a large group about to go out. A couple minutes later, after they got the group in the water, we got to get set up. Looks like if your forget your hat and sunscreen, they have some spares in the office they can lend you. I came prepared but as someone who can sunburn on a cloudy day I appreciate that I would have been covered either way. The office is a shack, small but functional and kind of adorable inside. The staff is friendly, easy going and quick to make jokes. They are kind enough to hold on to any bags or things you don't want to go out to the water. We got quick lessons on dry land then they helped us down to beach. We were in a tandem kayak. My husband is not a strong swimmer and has never kayaked before. I have only kayaked in small lakes and ponds before. But the location was perfect. The water is serene, and even the waves from the passing speed boats are tolerable. On the Monday we went, most of the traffic on the water was other kayaks and a few paddle boarders. The sights were amazing and both my husband and I agreed it was worth the two hour train and bus journey from Vancouver.

So our guide had to get out of the raft couple of times to push the raft out of rocks. in between the River Rafting adventure, we also got out of our raft to do a short hike to the water fall. We also got our pictures taken there as well. Each raft could only hold a maximum of 6 people + the guide. Lunch was included in our adventure. It costed $125 to go River Rafting but it included the wetsuit, lunch and other gears. Also they posted pictures of our River Rafting session on Facebook for us to download. We also had the option to pay $30 for a USB with all photos loaded on it. Overall, I had a great time and will definitely come back. I am thinking of next time doing Kayaking. Also for River Rafting its better to go in June (I was told).

My friends haven't done the Canyon one so it was new to them. They loved it as it was even more challenging and had more dips and rapids. I sat in the front of the raft with another friend, Lee. We got hammered by the big splash of water whenever our raft would dip down over the rocks and rapids. Our guide this time was Sam, he was great and funny. My friends can be a little 'excited' so I'm glad he was able to play along with their antics. The weather was insane yesterday. It was sunny when we drove there from Vancouver however by the time we got changed and started to take the bus to the starting point, it was snowing. Yes, that's right. It was snowing. When we got into the raft and while Sam was explaining the commands, it turned to hail and then rain. The first part of rafting, it was raining. By the time we finished, it was sunny so we had 4 seasons of weather. It made for an even better experience. There were only 2 rafts this time. Last time I went, there was 8 rafts. With only 2 rafts, it was better and more personable as we are able to joke around a bit more. They have a small sauna shack so when we got back, we basically went there to warm up. Again, I recommend coming here for rafting.

Prices are reasonable, but not cheap, and the equipment is a lot nicer than you get at other places in the area (Rocky Point Kayak, Creekside Kayaks, Crescent Beach Paddle Shack, etc.). A downside of the nicer equipment is that the equipment needs more care and maintenance and the staff here seem overloaded and don't always get to checking over equipment, e.g., I used a surfski here at opening and the boat had clearly not been rinsed after its last use, which caused the bailer to be clogged enough that it wouldn't open without a series of hard whacks and wouldn't close again until it was rinsed out because there as so much sand in the mechanism (there was sand all over the rest of the ski too, but the rest of the sand didn't cause a problem). Overall, I think this is the nicest place to rent a kayak from the in the Vancouver area since free parking is so much easier to find than at Deep Cove or Jericho Beach and the equipment is just way nicer than what you get at other rental places.
