Visited for my dad's 70th high school reunion--pretty amazing that about 20 of his classmates were still able to attend. I can only hope I'll be around and able to attend mine one day! I ordered the Vomacka Soup and the Walleye Tacos with Chips. It was my first time trying Vomacka soup, and it was outstanding. I'll definitely be hunting down a recipe to try making it at home. The tacos were excellent--loaded with all the good stuff and packed with flavor. The chips, however, were a letdown. I' assuming they were house-made, they were too thick and didn't taste particularly fresh. I'd definitely substitute them out next time. Wow! First time visit and I will absolutely be back!!! Came in with a group of 11 people and were seated almost immediately. Our server was extraordinary and attentive. There was not one error in any of our orders and the food was extraordinary. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were generous. The ambiance was great and offered many unique decor to enjoy. Child friendly, but also seemed like a great happy hour hangout. I went to Fishtale Grill with my dad, 2 of my siblings, brother-in-law and a few nieces on Friday, 4/4 for the fish special. It was quite busy, so the wait was understandable. Unfortunately, it was the quality of food that we have had in the past. The baked fish was ok, but could have used more seasoning. The deep-fried fish was tough as if it had been cooked earlier and then sat under warming lights for some time. Fries were also lukewarm and overdone. Mac 'n cheese needed more sauce... However, this was not the worst part... When we paid, those who had the fish special were all charged $19.95 instead of the advertised $16.95. What a surprise! We had multiple choices, including two that would have been cheaper had we known. Gets worse... When we pointed out the mistake to the waitress/manager, she said she knew and needed to update the website! She refused to give us the advertised price... OK... so we thought if we contacted the owners, perhaps they would rectify things with us. Sent an email to both owners listed on the website... Still no answer, although they have now updated the website to reflect the current price. VERY DISAPPOINTING... It was already not my dad's favorite place as evening lighting is dim and it is noisy. I was fortunate enough to eat here twice on my last trip to New Prague and plan to eat here when I return later this summer. Here are some points that might influence your decision to eat here or not: 1. First of all, New Prague does not have a huge selection of restaurants, and I think The Fishtale might be the best of them. I don't mean that it is the best of a bad bunch, because it is a good place, as I describe below. It is just that the food here is a step up from many other places in town. 2. The burgers are outstanding, and there is a choice of options. To me the best choice is the plain burger without a lot of toppings, which reveals how good the burger is: flavorful, well-done (my preference) but not dried out. 3. The kettle chips with the burgers are good, but the fried are better. 4. For soup, you have to try the vomacka soup, a Czech soup with carrots, celery, potatoes, and dill, among other ingredients. You can find the recipe online, but trust me when i say you must give it a try. The flavors all come together to make a hearty soup. 5. The star of the restaurant is the broasted chicken, fried chicken made in a pressure cooker. The cooking technique makes for very flavorful chicken, crunchy enough but surprisingly light. Sometimes fried chicken has a crust that is too thick, but the crust here is light but thick enough to add to the chicken. If you have never had broasted chicken, don't miss the chance when you are here. The potatoes and brown gravy were also outstanding. Hope you have a chance to give The Fishtale a try. read more

I'm giving this place a 5-star review because I've been here multiple times and it has been consistently delicious every time...and that's just wonderful!! I've been to Fishtale about 5 times now for lunch and dinner, and have always been happy with whatever I've ordered, and with the service. This is a busy place, and my only compliant about it would be that there is not enough parking. I've actually had to leave three other times because there was no parking :(. This place gets hopping! But with food this good I guess that makes sense :) Food...I've had the Russian Reuben twice...and likely will again if they keep it on the menu because it's so dang tasty! It's like a regular Reuben, but has coleslaw and it's just drippy, and tasty, and I want to eat it right now...Yum! They also have very tasty tater tots...Mmmm. I've tried the Vomacka soup (Czech) which was good, and interesting with the dill in it. Would I order it again...probably not as it's not really my taste, but was decent soup and people in this area love it! I've also had the Southwestern Penne pasta which was pretty good too. Lots of bell peppers, well-cooked pasta, and a very generous portion. The BBQ Chicken Chop Salad is also fantastic although very big, so a half size is plenty! Overall the portions are plentiful, the quality and taste is consistently very good, and the service is friendly and warm. We met for a mini-family reunion on a Sunday afternoon. Even with a Vikings game playing in the background, the acoustics were favorable to party members who have hearing challenges. That's important! The service was excellent and responsive. Our server noticed that elbow room was a little tight & graciously brought another table to expand space. Food portions are huge! Prices very reasonable. Some highlights from the table: definitely the smoked salmon (available as an appetizer or salad). It's sourced from local Odenthal Meat Market and was delicious. The fried shrimp were extra large and plentiful. My hubby had the pasta and said it had a really nice kick. 12/12 enjoyed their food. We will be back for sure. read more

I really wanted to like this place. The service was decent. Nice even. Unfortunately that doesn't make up for the food I received. I ordered the grilled mahi-mahi on "coconut" rice. It was a hefty $19 so I expected something with lots of flavor. What came out though was quite the opposite. The fish was almost like rubber, the "coconut" rice was just plain rice, unflavored. Ultimately, after 3 bites I realized that I couldn't eat this flavorless rubber. The person I was with ordered the walleye sandwich and said it was good. So there's that. And I wasn't made to pay for my meal so I appreciated that. I suggest taking it off the menu so that future patrons don't make the same mistake I did. read more

My one-star rating reflects my last visit. Over all, I would give this restaurant a two-star review. I have been here many times and I usually just go for Saturday night prime rib. I also risk visiting Fish Tail because it is sadly the best restaurant in town (for dinner anyway). My visit last night was so bad though that I am going impose on myself a Fish Tail ban for at least 6 months. Hopefully, things will improve. And by "improve" I mean not be horrible. There is glaring lack of a management presence on Saturday nights here and it is the worst time to go. As for the food, do not order the mahi-mahi entree. The kitchen here has absolutely no clue how to prepare fish. Just don't order it. It's horrible. Skip all of the fish. Even the breaded fried fish is ridiculous. It is prepared with a heavy, dry batter. Gross. The local Pizza Ranch has much better fish on Fridays during Lent. It's really that bad. The burgers are your best bet. Or try the chopped steak entree. It's hard to mess up and is great comfort food. Ask for gravy on everything. The prime rib is usually fine but not always. The vomacka soup is good and is probably the best menu item. If your looking for a beer and a burger you probably enjoy your visit to Fish Tail. If you are looking for anything more, drive out of town. read more

The Fishtale is super cute! We were out riding the Harley and needed nourishment. We stopped here and I couldn't have been more pleased! From the outside, it looks sorta funky, but the inside looks like.... I'm not even sure how to describe it. I felt like I was IN a log cabin but then there were canoes and fake fish hanging on the walls. So.... I dunno what to tell you. I LOVED it, but it was a funny mixture of stuff. My favorite part was the kitchen. The kitchen was hidden behind a fake cabin with a boat on the roof. I mean, it was so cool! I totally failed to take a picture of it though. I started with a bloody and holy crap! It was amazing! The special of the day was a fajita wrap made with prime rib. Oh hello, my ears perked up and I was instantly sold. Prime rib is my jam and I love it with all my heart. My guy and I decided to split the fajita wrap with cottage cheese (ew, him) and the french dip with fries (yum, me). Everything was so delicious. The fajita wrap was everything. I was eyeing my guys half, even though it was in his hand and half gone.... The french dip was tasty and enjoyable, but after the fajita wrap, nothing could compare. I loved the fries, crispy on the outside and soft inside. Apparently, this place has some sort of food challenge involving a 3 pound burger and a ton of other crap that equals six pounds of food. I can neither confirm nor deny this. I only saw it on the website when I was searching for the menu on their site. All in all, it was a great meal! Would I make a special trip just for the food? Probably not. But if you're out on a motorcycle ride or passing through town, it's totally worth a stop. read more

I was in the area visiting family. We had dinner here and it was good! I had the shrimp. Ok... It was good but obviously shrimp aren't native to MN. I would have gone with a fresh catch meal if I had to do it all over again. I was part of a group of 4. Besides my shrimp (which were good), someone had the prime rib (she loved it), someone had the pork and dumpling special (he loved it), and the 4th person had the walleye (she loved it and so did I as I tried it). Had excellent meal and service this week. They offer outdoor seating, both screened porch as well as outdoor tables with umbrellas. All staff that we encountered were following Covid protocol. Server was friendly, attentive and helpful. We experienced speedy food service. Hubby had the special: roast pork, dumpling, gravy and sauerkraut. Very tasty and included homemade gravy, no artificial flavors were used (I'm a gravy snob). He enjoyed every bite. I had pulled pork wrap which was outstanding.
