Came here on a Thursday at 7 and we were seated right away. We were seated in a booth next to the bar, so the bartender was our server, this made our service pretty slow, but we didn't mind. The food that we ordered came out pretty quickly, and it was delicious! The cheese curds are truly amazing!! It's not too noisy in the restaurant, but it does seem like a good place to watch sports so I'm not sure how loud it could get when the games are on. We will be back! read more

I've been curious to try this place since it's in my neighborhood but was a little hesitant after many mixed reviews. Our server greeted us with a bowl of popcorn to munch on while we looked at the menu. There are many tasty burger options to choose from. I had the San Diego smash burger (basil mayo on the side) and fries. The basil mayo was simple - mayo with slivers of basil in it. It didn't add much to the flavor of the burger so cold take or leave this. The fries were also pretty average but they give you a large portion. This restaurant has many tvs to watch a game and pull tabs if you are feeling lucky. They have decent food, good service and a fun atmosphere, I'm glad I gave newt's a try! read more

Met some friends here on a snowy weeknight. Not too busy due to the weather. I liked the booth we were seated in. It has a sports bar vibe with plenty of TVs for viewing. I chose a California burger for my entree. It was delicious. Huge burger. Nice and juicy. I liked that they had a side salad as one of the options to go with the burger. It felt a little healthier. Homey bar that serves burgers and shakes. There is plenty of free parking in the lot outside. Upon entering you get hit with the smell of freshly popped popcorn, and they bring a free bowl to your table as soon as you sit down. Service was friendly and fast. The milkshakes are very reasonable at $7-8 each. The oreo milkshake had good flavor, but the consistency was pretty liquidy and could've used more ice cream. The burgers are served with fries, salad, or coleslaw. The burger and fries is a pretty generous serving. The California Burger and fries were standard. My service complaint is not against the server. It is against the way the service is managed. There are 4 booths next to the bar. The bartender is assigned those booths. If there is a full bar and full restaurant expect terrible service. The bartender has to get all of the alcoholic drinks for the entire restaurant. Serve all of the customers at the bar. Then when she can take a breath, check on the 4 booths. It would be one thing if the bar and restaurant were slow but come at dinner time or happy hour expect terrible service! read more

My friend and I went here to catch up. Vibe is super cute and the popcorn was delicious. We ordered the burgers and they were pretty mediocre. Nothing that I would crave or go back for. However, the fries were delicious as well as the cheese curds. The one thing I will point out is the server was very rude. My friend and I had not even finished half of our burgers when the waitress came up and asked if we would like to-go dishes. She had not offered the check nor dessert or anything else just the to-go dishes. I'm not sure if it had something to do with the dinner rush that was starting to come in, but it wasn't an overwhelmingly busy night and we had not even been there an hour or close to finishing our food. We went here with our son for the first time. The popcorn was normal bar popcorn. The decorations had an older vibe with paper menus. We got the cheese curds to start and let me tell they are phenomenal. So light and crispy. Tasty AF. I got the boneless wings, and they let me pick two flavors. I was surprised by the large amount of wings I got. They were also very lightly breaded which was perfect. Good flavor. Overall I was very happy with them. My husband got the cheeseburger which was great. Bun was good, the meat was tasty. Big portion. Large portion of fries, which were only okay. The waitress was very nice and prompt. My spouse and I are starting to eat out after church on Sundays. I suggested Newts. I always see their billboards on my way to Rochester and ate at Rochester location one time years ago. Was given free popcorn which was real good and not overly salty. Was contemplating the Burger of the month Wonton Burger which was sirracha cream cheese, sweet chili sauce and wonton chips or Peanut Butter Burger with Bacon. Waitress said she hadn't had it. I went with Bacon Peanut Butter Burger and side salad. I knew I could eat spouse's fries. The fry portion here is huge. The burgers here are 1/2 pound and fresh, not frozen. I ordered mine medium. I only ate half and boxed the other half to eat later. The side salad had their own homemade ranch. Yummy, even better on the fries. Only pet peeve is excessive cheddar cheese on salad. Is Noone paying attention in the kitchen? At least 1/2 cup. It was kinda unusual seeing "Grace" MN official painting on the wall. Excess clutter on way to the kitchen was ugly. The Nordeast neon beer sign was cool. The server was very nice and refilled water and spouse's pop. They have a $10 cheeseburger, fries and pop lunch special m-f from 11-2 and $9 late night apps after 9 pm or 8pm on Sundays. Will definitely eat here again. read more

First time at Newts ! Walked in and nice place! Patio seating available- we chose to sit at the bar lots of screens for sports viewing and the bar stools are big and comfortable - always nice NA beer options bud zero and Odouls so my choice was a bud zero and the hubby had a Fulton blonde - 7 beers on tap and most importantly COLD ! Yes! I had Dave's burger and picked the Cole slaw as my side Hubs picked the Marty's burger and fries for his side I am on the hunt for the best Cole slaw - Newts was good but I prefer it really cold Burgers are fresh hand patty prep and delicious! After listening to some mixed reviews and keeping our fingers crossed, we tried out Newt's tonight for some burgers. 4 people at our table, 1 hour before the dinner rush started. Wait time: The food came relatively quickly, and was hot. Food: All four of us got different burgers with varying success. None of us were able to finish them - we've never had burgers with that much salt in our lives - they were mostly edible but VERY overcooked and not enjoyable. The fries were fine. Any special orders (including requesting no bun) seemed to throw them off and result in some missteps. Staff: Our server was brusque at best, and was only nice when she brought us the check. A busser was efficient, but tried clearing our food before we have even given up trying to eat it. Atmosphere: This is a good sized restaurant, but not huge. At a quick glance, I would guess a max of 40 tables plus a small bar. We counted 17 TVs. SEVENTEEN. That's insane even for a sports bar, which Newt's is not proclaimed to be. We visited for lunch. After you are seated they bring a bowl of popcorn for snacking. We had the Fried Onion Blue Burger (added mushrooms) and the Pulled Pork Sandwich. You are supposed to be able to order burgers cooked to order so I ordered mine rare. Unfortunately it was medium in the middle. The inside was juicy but the edge was dry and chewy. And the added on mushrooms were almost non-existent. If it had been rare I would probably have really liked it. The pulled pork was dry with hardly any BBQ sauce. My husband only ate a few bites and gave up. No additional BBQ sauce is offered and it needed more. The fries were excellent and the fried pickles were very good- just a little too greasy. The person seating us and the person taking our order seemed to have no personality at all, but the person that brought our order was very friendly. The cheese curds were okay but nothing to be exicted about. I order a Bacon Cheeseburger that was pretty good sized but was bland. This place has the biggest pieces of cheesecurds I've ever tried. They were super soft due to the style of breading they use. The burgers were heavy on the grease, probably because they cook them on a griddle flat top. The fries were good For $2 extra I got fried pickles but I wasn't a fan of the breading. I prefer the panko breading for that crunch factor but that's a personal preference. They have free popcorn to snack on before the food comes and it's good popcorn. Wanted to try the onion rings. Server informed me there is a $7.00 upcharge to sub onion rings instead of fries or salad. That seemed expensive but I did it. The onion rings were good and it was a large portion. The chicken strips were listed as being beer batter breaded but when they arrived they didn't seem to have much of a breading on them and were average at best. Got 5 very small chicken strips. Chicken and onion rings not at all worth $23.50 I was charged. Beers were nice and cold. My husband paid $2 upcharge for tater tots instead of fries and they were just OK. He said his burger was good but the meat was overdone. The booths design was poor since there was one shared back to the seats between booths. When people arrived at the booth behind me the whole back of the booth moved. Like having someone kicking the back of your seat on an airplane. Server didn't seem too friendly. Our dirty plates sat at the edge of our booth for about 20 minutes. Seemed very inefficient since the busboy and server walked past our table at least 6 times without grabbing anyone's dirty dishes. No thank you or "have a good night" from the server. She simply left the bill in the to-go box she brought to the table. There are much better places in the south metro to eat than Newt's. My family and I stopped by Newt's on a Tuesday night when none of us were feeling particularly motivated to cook. My dad had heard they had good burgers, so we decided to give them a try. My mom and I both got the cheeseburger, and my dad got the Marvin's burger. The cheeseburger really was just cheese on a burger. I feel like cheeseburgers that I order typically also come with lettuce and tomato...but this was just cheese. I suppose I should have asked if I could add those things. The burger came on a huge bun that didn't really fit. I had to cut a lot of the bun off to finally reach my burger. The bun was also almost sweet tasting, I'm not sure why. The burger was very thick and juicy, which was good but it didn't taste seasoned or anything. It just tasted very...meaty. There wasn't a ton of flavor. The fries that came with my burger also were just okay. They weren't crispy or seasoned super well. My parents had similar feelings about their burgers, but my dad's burger did have more ingredients on the burger which I think improved it. However, his burger was expensive. All the burgers that had more ingredients on them were around 17-19 dollars. Which ok I guess is pretty standard in the city, I just wasn't expecting that kind of price in the burbs. Visited here this past week since its in our local neighborhood and I'm from southern MN (Rochester), where the original Newts is from. Let's just say it's not the "Newts" I'm used too or grew up visiting in southern MN. I'm not sure if it's the lack of good staff or poor management - but the quality of both environment and food was very poor. Food: They're known for their burgers but this new location is not going to live up to the original Newts reputation. From poor presentation, to lack of getting orders placed correctly - just was a poor experience for me and my guests. I was really hoping for something more, some better, but didn't get it. I had Marvin's Burger and didn't get any chipotle Mayo (the special sauce of this burger). I requested no butter on the bun and they instead over buttered it and left our the Mayo. My guests all had issues with their orders too, with one of them needing to go back to the kitchen. Enviorment: Walking in all you smell is the buttery salty popcorn ~ but to the upside that was the only good thing that we actually enjoyed (and it was free) lol. It is seat yourself style, but every open table was very dirty - staff wasn't cleaning or keeping up with folks leaving. We had to ask for our table to be cleaned which took about 10 minutes for the staff to finally do. We noticed people leaving because of the dirty environment. Some of our tableware was even encrusted with old/dried food. I noticed through out my meal that a lot of the staff was just standing around, when they could be cleaning and wiping things down. Poor management, lack of staff motivation to actually work - just poor combos of everything. All I can say is we won't be back and it's upsetting to experience such a beloved burger joint from southern MN so epically failing here in the twin cities suburbs. read more

First time at Newt's... For a place with burgers in their name, I was deeply disappointed. An extremely average burger (maybe even below average as I can think of many fast food options with better burgers). In fact for almost $15, this burger was a rip off. Remember the old Wendy's commercial and the "where's the beef?" tag line. While this place definitely skimps on the beef and over does the bun and lettuce. Deeply disappointing! The Kaiser bun is enormous and basically glorified Wonder Bread, tasteless and bland! My California burger had half a head of iceberg lettuce and no mayonnaise (ever though I went out of my way to ask for mayonnaise on it). If a fast food restaurant can make a good burger, this place has no excuse for the garage they served me for $15!!! The other food our group ordered was acceptable, but nothing overwhelmed expectations. The atmosphere is great! I really like the place and the staff was fantastic. My husband and I did a joint family meal here with my kids dad and their stepfamily for a joint celebration recently and despite a pretty decent size menu I'm not sure anyone was very impressed with the taste of the food. They do have gf buns available and can modify burgers slightly but I did get cross contaminated which was pretty disappointing as I do get quite sick when I get glutened. So not sure I'd be able to recommend this for anyone who has a higher level of gluten intolerance/sensitivity/allergy. read more

Let me start off by saying our food was great and came out in a timely manner. We'd compare it to one of our favorite burger joints. Our service however was lacking and because of it we were here longer than expected. This was our first time here. We came after a long day at the zoo. We were all tired. There were 7 adults and 3 kids (two of which were asleep.) I understand we came at a busy time with a larger group, but after 10 minutes of waiting for a server to even come to our table we were starting to get a little irritated. It took way too long to get our drinks. I felt our server was too busy for our table, and as a server myself I could see where improvements could have been made in her skill set. She set out one bowl of popcorn for the table, explained more was being made and would be out shortly, and then completely forgot about it. She walked by our table multiple times empty handed after we had asked for napkins to the point we needed to get up and find them ourselves. We also noticed the table beside us did the same. It wouldn't have been hard to grab a few for one of those empty handed passes. After the initial asking after our food which is when we asked for the napkins, we didn't see her again at our table until we were all bone dry on drinks and had been for about 7 minutes as well as being practically finished eating. read more

Fries were pretty good. Service? The people that were there during the "off time" (around 4) were pretty impressed with themselves and not the customers. I have heard a lot of positive things about Newt's Burgers in Rochester, I thought I would give it a try in Apple Valley. My wife and I came on a Saturday night around 630. It wasn't super busy and we got a table quick. The server was polite and took out drink order and asked if we wanted any appetizers. We declined and she said she would be back in a few to take our food order. My wife ordered the fish and chips and I ordered the Southwest Burger cooked medium with onion rings. Food came out in a pretty quick manner. My wife's fish and chip looked a little t overdone. My burger was cooked more to the well done and the onion rings while some what crispy they were slightly soggy. My guess is the drier was quite hot enough. I think this place being newer is still trying to find it's stride. Good place for a quick burger, but keep the expectations to minimum. read more

I've been here 3 times now, it is definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Apple Valley. 3/3 times the food has been fantastic! Appetizers I highly recommend the zippy poppers, the tots and Gouda are also great! My favorite burger is the okie onion, and I add sautéed mushrooms. When service is good it's amazing, servers friendly and quick, food super fast and fresh. One of my three visits the service was pretty bad but the food was still amazing. I recommend sitting at a booth or table on the right side rather than the bar. One thing we thought was awesome was the ambiance. It's not too loud but not too quiet. Awesome burger joint with great daily drink specials. It's a brand new restaurant but the way this place is decorated is honestly kind of a throw back old school bar. Free popcorn the moment you sit down and awesome quick servers, amazing how great they are for just opening. Burgers are cooked the way you want them and they're quite large! We got there a little after 11 on a Saturday and we're easily seated but it was packed on our way out. Our server was very friendly and sweet. Maybe we ordered wrong but the food was not impressive - ordered fried pickle app and it was soggy and salty. We were intrigued by the slider sampler (6 for $19. No side) so we could try a few types of burgers. The buns were dense and a poor choice and some of the sliders were so well done they were inedible. No pulltabs. We stopped by for lunch on Monday. There was a decent crowd there but the noise level was fine. They bring a basket of popcorn to your table which we didn't eat but it was appreciated. They have a nice selection of burgers to choose from and we decided on the Rojo Burger with fries. One bite and we realized we were served the wrong order. The waiter apologized and immediately brought us our correct order. Things happen, no biggie. The burger was really good and we would order it again. The fries were sort of meh, nothing special.
