This place came recommended to me from two people and it was good but not amazing. I enjoyed the amuse buche pate and the tomato salad but the duck didn't have a lot of flavor, was very rare, and was almost impossible to cut with the knife they provided. The service was fine. We had a very young man server who may have even been a teen. The atmosphere was very nice including a man playing guitar. The small plates were the more impressive dishes of the evening. Consequently, the crusty bread goes nicely with everything so try not to devour it right away. The sweet tomato salad (13.50€) was simple but deliciously good - ripe sliced tomatoes topped with a fragrant olive oil and flakes of salt. It complements the burrata (17€), which has an amazing spicy green mole giving the cheese a burst of flavour. In fact, the whole dish was different: the burrata accompanied with roasted broccolini, an unusual green that works. I could have easily had an order to myself. When our server suggested the chicken wings (18.50€) I had my doubts, but the nuggets of fried deboned chicken tossed in a creamy truffle sauce were addictive. The sauce, of course, became an excuse to have even more bread. Of the small plates, only the fresh calamari (20.50€) was a bust. The seafood was over cooked, way over salted, and hidden amongst so much unnecessary foam. Give me more of the chicken wings any day. Still, the calamari was better than the egregiously overdone and tough duck (25.50€), one of the worst renditions of the dish I've ever had. Perhaps, it could have been salvaged if the duck was cut thinner... even then, I feel they would still be chewy. The side dishes weren't any better: the charred corn turned out to be the canned variety and the spring onions left whole and unseasoned. The best part of the dish was the puréed sweet potatoes. I wish I had heeded the server's recommendation to order the Viennese schnitzel (29€). Pounded to a cardboard thinness and the size of a pizza, the schnitzel gets a thin coating of raw egg yolk tableside before being jazzed up with shaved truffles and chives. It was perhaps a touch salty, but at least it was crispy and not overdone. read more

Best Cheesecake in Barcelona We originally stumbled upon Fismuler as they were touted to have the best cheesecake in Barcelona. However, when we stopped by, we realized this was definitely not the kind of place where you just stop and have a cheesecake, even less without a reservation. So we quickly made a reservation for the next day, and we anxiously waited. The next day we were pumped! After a full day of walking around Montserrat, our body was ready for the must needed carbs. The staff quickly began their service by bringing over their bread and butter service. Wow. This was no ordinary butter, it was served with an airy elevated pate that complimented the crispy bread. Of course, we couldn't just have desert and bread so we did order the Mellow Rice with Clams and a couple of drinks But here came the star of the show! The cheesecake. This was the main act. As it arrived at the table it was perfectly cold but at the same time melty. As we dug in our spoon, the beautiful buttery crust cracked away. The bite was phenomenal. The buttery flaky crust was indicative of a seasoned baker, the cake portion was incredibly creamy and not overwhelmingly sweet, instead it playfully danced with some blue cheese that just dignified the taste even more. We were looking forward to Fismuler given the universal support it harbors from so many online sources. We showed up in excitement and left in disappointment. Walking in on time, We appreciated the modern, elevated, but casual atmosphere. Definitely a great first impression and a feeling that we picked right. After being seated and being provided a menu, a complimentary set of bread and pate comes to the table to whet the appetite. The restaurant was fully occupied fifteen minutes within open. Our request to switch out seat to out doors was kindly obliged given the crowded and loud atmosphere. It was with being seated outside that our experience changed dramatically to nearly the worse dining experience in Barcelona. Our drinks were thrown out, and we were not served new drinks for 40 minutes, we had a server who was clueless with regards to the menu, and our food orders were incorrect on several accounts. Literally, a dish was forgotten, then incorrectly placed into the computer, then took another 30 minutes to correct after the second error. Terrible timing, accuracy, and little to no apology for the unforgivable mistakes. No more than a one star experience here. read more

Arguably the best restaurant we went to in Barcelona. Made reservations for weekday lunch, but it definitely still had a lot of seats available, especially for small parties. If you have more than 2, better to make the reservation. They have an English menu available, which made things easier and some staff speak English so they will come serve you. Even though my Spanish is enough to get around, having the English menu on hand as a foodie allowed me to better understand what I was to be eating. To start, the appetizer they give you is not free, though we decided to eat it anyway and accept the charge. The bread was decent and the duck liver mousse came with a nice glazed sauce and their delicious house pickles that you see along the entrance. I ordered a sparkling lemonade and it was so refreshing - freshly squeezed lemon juice with soda water in a big glass makes for one happy diner. We ordered a must order - slices of semi-cured sea bream with olive oil, thinly sliced grapes, and almonds. The fish was fresh and the grape and almonds were a genius flavor combination. Probably my favorite dish of the meal. The oysters were a bit disappointing because they didn't taste the freshest and the butter/beet juice combination did nothing to help that. Would recommend skipping these. The razor clams come served on a bed of polished rocks and are delightfully chewy with a tangy sauce resembling a chipotle mayo. The charred pieces of kale and green onion provided a lovely crunch and fresh flavor to the dish. I don't see razor clams usually in the US so definitely order these. The chicken wings were impressive as they came deboned with such expertise that the chicken was left undamaged as the bone was extracted out. This was a truffle heavy dish so it was nice and earthy. The yolk was cool, but overall this wasn't as exciting as the seafood dishes we ordered. Finally, the amazing cheesecake is to die for. This one is strong and just as it oozes like Camembert cheese, it also has notes of Camembert in the aftertaste. My dining companion proclaimed it the best cheesecake in the world and I'd have to say it's definitely one of a kind. Overall, this will be my first stop if I ever make it back to Barcelona again. It was easy to make dinner reservations online on the day of on a Wednesday. I did have to give my credit card information in case I was a no show then I would be charged. Inside is dim lighted, modern casual atmosphere. Menus were available by QR code only. Free WiFi, Just ask the staff what the username and password is. My partner was thinking about the barber duck versus the beef short rib for an entree. Our waiter recommended the beef short ribs since it is more flavorful from being slow cooked for 10 hours. The beef was indeed flavorful, very tender as well as a bit fatty. It was served with spicy pearl onions. I ordered the sea bass, which came with white beech mushrooms and trumpets of death mushrooms in a light broth sauce. It was very good, I devoured it in minutes. The fish was so tender. It came with skin on, but it easily comes off if you don't like fish skin. A side salad with vinaigrette was provided, but I'm not sure which entree that came with. They automatically brought pate and 2 pieces of bread as an appetizer, but this is not complimentary. So if you do eat it, it is 2.75 euros each person. We actually didn't eat it, but we got charged anyway. We let our waiter know and he took it off the bill. I would come back to eat here, but make sure to pay attention to your bill! read more

Love the open kitchen atmosphere! This place attracted a nice, eclectic crowd of locals and tourists. For appetizers we ordered the tomato salad, razor clams, and the chicken/egg dish- all amazing. I could not get those tomatoes out of my head for days. Sounds absurd, but they were freaking delicious!!! The mains were a bit disappointing (Nobu-ish miso cod, the duck, & shortrib) The cod was so overly salted and was nothing like the Nobu version. The short rib was underseasoned and quite dry, and the duck was just ok. By dessert, they had redeemed themselves. We got the chocolate cake and their famed cheesecake. And the cheesecake is NOT what you'd expect. The best way I can describe it is....it's like.....a very rich tasting Ritz Bits cheese sandwich. Does that sound awful?? It really wasn't awful. Amazing food, but with horrible horrible service. It took us well over 20 minutes waiting to put down the order, during the time not a single server came to check on us. We had to finally wave one of the further end staff who did not look like a server to help us put down the order. And during the meal we felt like all the servers around us were avoiding us intentionally somehow; especially one of the asian looking (i guessed Vietnamese) waiter who should've been responsible for our table. The whole time he just pretend that he didn't see us even when we try to make eye contact multiple times. We were served mostly by either the cook looking person or servers who were obviously not responsible for our table. The food were amazing, we almost wanted to order more because they were so creative and so tasty. However, the intentional ignorance made us feel like we were not welcomed and we just wanted to leave. We did talked to the manager and he apologized by saying maybe the servers were too busy; so busy that he showed up at our table less times than some cook looking guy. The manager did too off the 3 glasses of wine for a nice gesture, but we were very pissed already so that didn't make us feel any better. We almost felt like we experienced racism until i saw some other reviews who are non asian had similar experience. Be award if you decided to try your luck at this place, you either get proper service like some other good reviews or you get the silent treatment out of nowhere. The food was excellent, well seasoned and well presented. Choices are a little short but enough to please almost everyone. The wine list is affordable and nice variety. Restaurant was child free for mid evening seating. They are opened late. Service was well paced and the server was knowledgeable about the menu. Very pleasant. Fismuler made our memory of Barcelona complete. We were in the city for two days and we ate here twice- afternoon quick lunch, and dinner. Is that enough proof of excellence? The onion soup was seriously the best and beyond expectation. It's the most unorthodox, eclectic, yet scrumptiously delicious onion soup we've had in all of our European trips (sorry Paris, you didn't live up to your own signature soup). The crispy cheese bread topping this bowl was the most pleasant treat I've had in a long while. Just wow. By the evening the place was filled with local elites and global trotters. Live music, glistening candies, bustling wine bar, swift waiters zig-zagging between tables...the place was packed and we were lucky enough to squeeze into two seats by the window. The truffle burrata cheese salad was out-of-this-world soft, melting, and irresistible. My dinner course cod was drizzled in cream sauce and topped with enoki mushroom. An elegant dish with just the right portion. My partner-in-crime had the epic veal schnitzel. It was the side of a thin mini pizza, crispy and topped with cheese and herb, good to every bite. Last but not the least, the cheesecake was the perfect completion. The treat came semi-melted, shows you how fresh and soft the cheese is. We finished it in two minutes. Seriously the best ever. It was one of those magical nights - that the stars were aligned and we cannot rave more about Fismuler. We were in Barcelona for a week to eat and drink. Had all our meals lined up referring the eaters 38 essential restaurant. Went from the Disfrutar (Top 20 best restaurant, first year debut, 195 EUR, top notch Michelin experience to some casual tapa spots. But at the end of the day, I love food that speaks to me with highlight on the fresh I gridding s and a fun night out. Fismuler did not disappoint! Food wise, the highlight for me was the razor clams with a bit of fried kale and other yummy sauces on top. The razor clams were just amazing. The star of the dinner was the shrimp tartar appetizer topped with caviar. I can easily consume a dozen of those heavenly goodness. You can really taste the sweetness from the raw shrimp. Sooo good. The cockles Risotto was another highlight. Rich think rice in that seafood broth, can't really go wrong. The perfectly cooked pork dish was also as good as I can expect, if not better. Decor is contemporary, the vibe is lively people pouring in for their 10pm and 11pm reservations. Most of them stayed for the live music afterwards. We set in a communal table with all the locals, date night couples that dress to impress, friends night out having a great time. Service was very attentive, considering how busy they were! We ordered 4 glasses of white and 4 glasses of reds to pair with the various dishes that worked really well. There is a pastry chef in house in charge of the various desserts. She came over to each table to chat about her favorite desserts. We had the chocolate dessert which was to die for. Worth every calories! To finish the night off was the house infused whiskey. The only dish I wasn't a fan of is the chicken wings and it's only because I don't like egg yolks that are runny/raw. Wow. Just... wow. As a group of nine, it was difficult to decide what to eat, so we asked the waiter to decide for us. He did not disappoint! From start to finish, every bite was as good, or better than the last. The cured sea bream & prawn toast arrived first, and were amazing starts to the meal. The prawn toast reminded me of creamy ebi topped with caviar, some at the table commented that they had never tried anything like it. Next was the sticky rice with clams and Chinese chard (bok choy), the razor clams (believe all the reviews - this one is worth the entire meal!) and the cod omelette (surprisingly delicious). Lastly came the chicken wings (with egg yolk & truffle) and the short rib. Both items delicious and I would readily order again. Then the pastry chef arrived at our table to describe that evening's choices. We got one of each. All were amazing, but the cheesecake and the tiramisu were heavy favourites. This was great. It's more expensive than a typical tapas bar, but also more modern and a nice change of pace for us during a week of more typical Barcelona restaurants. We got calamari fritters (essentially croquettes in squid ink), sea bream, burrata salad, chicken wings, and steak tartar. The last two were popular on here and Foursquare, and while they were good, they were actually our least favorite of the night. The sea bream was our favorite -- not as thin as a carpaccio, but something along those lines with some outstanding seasoning. The fritters and burrata were also outstanding. read more

Our first entree arrived and we still hadn't gotten our wine. It was to a point where we felt uncomfortable being there and this affected our order. Fismuler is situated in the neighborhood of El Born, which is part of the gothic district in Barcelona. We ordered the gazpacho, and it was super delicious. I had the cod but omelette, and it was delectable with a consistency that was surprising: runny, airy, and crispy on the outside. The winner was a giant s snitzel that is finished table side, with generous grated truffles. The cheese pie for dessert is also a must. We forgot to order the black squid croquettes, which looked very interesting when we saw other people ordered it. Definitely a good stop. read more

Holy @&$# !?€¥ +*%^ this restaurant is amazing. First off, the space was absolutely beautiful. Spacious and modern right next to the Parc de la Ciutadella. And everything we ordered was outrageously delicious. As with most places in Barcelona, Fismuler offers seafood dishes prepared inventively in a manner I just haven't encountered elsewhere. We started with the shrimp tartare canapés. They were so good I had to do a second round of them. Next we had fresh calamari with thistle mushrooms. This dish was a standout and probably one of the best dishes I've ever tasted. The concept was simple ... calamari rings with mushroom cooked with a light sauce. The result was unreal. The semi-cured sea bream with grapes and almonds was also other-worldly. I have never had fish prepared this way before. It was more or less a carpaccio, but very smoky and though it appear to only have a few ingredients in the dish, together they achieved a flavor apotheosis. I've never used that word in any review, so you know I am not kidding. read more

A standout meal, and surprisingly affordable to a tourist from the USA. I found this via the eater 38. The restaurant had a laidback feel at lunch time, with neither the bustle or crowds of other tapas restaurants (I did make a reservation, but not required) nor the lively service. But the food stole the show. The best dishes, ranked: -chicken wings - don't be fooled by the suggestion of greasy bar food - this was served in a vegetable-like paste with sweet perfectly ripe medallions of pumpkins. It's difficult to describe how the flavors melded well together -Viennese escalope - prepared tableside, this is perfectly crisped schnitzel with a soft boiled egg spread over it and generous shavings of Black truffle. It came with a potato cream that tasted more of cream than potato, but all's good. Pizza-sized, this was an unexpectedly large portion and we were so stuffed! Almost every table around us ordered this. -lobster croquettes - I consumed many, many jamon and seafood croquettes on my journey - this was one of the top 2 -cod omelette - impossibly soft and wet omelette, spooned directly into your plate. Some of us found it a little salty. I found it good but not great The mellow rice with cockles and chard were a fine dish and comforting but not necessary. I had a huge bone while eating seabass and other debris while eating oysters. Some of the steak lacked flavor while seabass sauce was salty. Construction of the dish is good while lacking consistency with ingredient handling and the level of flavor. I thought the chickpeas and chicken "wings" were the best. The razor clams were a bit salty. Salmon salad didn't seem anything special. The chickpeas were well balanced, flavorful. The chicken was spot on! Rich and delicious. For dessert, had the "melting" cheesecake which was very good (as a New Yorker, I've had my fair share of cheesecake). Spent 2 weeks in Barcelona. This was our favorite dinner. It was amazing overall from service to food and food quality. We had a variety of dishes. The chicken wing dish is better than you can imagine. Doesn't look like "wings" at all yet the crispiness on the skin is there and amazing but even better is the sauce that it sits in - I could literally have licked that clean. The ribs were very good as well and a nice portion. There was also a pan fried fish dish that was truly delish. It doesn't end there. The pasty/dessert chef came to the table to tell us the offerings and even custom adjusted a dessert for me since I must eat GF, I was not disappointed It was a truly amazing meal from start to finish. read more

Outstanding! We have been in Spain over a week and I've been struggling with the differences between classic and modern Spanish society and cuisine. Fismuler is entirely modern in the absolute best way. The large open space, comfortable furnishings , perfect noise level, excellent lighting which seems to dim at the right moment, all set the stage on which you will enjoy flavors and textures put together in ways you never imagined, and needn't be afraid of. You will never taste a chicken wing like this in the States. The modern a la carte menu is available in half sizes on most dishes because in the Spanish tradition,they want you to enjoy as many tastes as possible. In the end we only had 4 half appetizers between my husband and me, then straight to dessert, cheesecake in the style of the great San Sebastián restaurant La Vina, please save room. Razor clams, lentils prepared like risotto, green shoots (in a country where it's hard to find prepared vegetables these were a standout) and the above mentioned wings made for a gastronomic treat. Inexpensive wines by the glass allowed us to try several, likely one too many, but we walked back to our hotel happy to have enjoyed a perfect evening. By all accounts this was complementary. When we sat down, it was given immediately without a question as to if we wanted it. This would be great, until we found out it was €2.75 each....what? One of the waitresses kept knocking a tray holder into my chair. Not a big deal, but then maybe move it after the 3rd time? The food overall was quite good. Don't get the white asparagus.
